(Healthy Eating and Exercise)
Weight: 155.6

Saturday and Sunday were OK. I ate some pizza (two pieces each day) but really didn't over do it otherwise. Was so busy I lost track of writing things down, but I know I was OK - even on Sunday when I dipped pretzels in chocolate.....I only ate a few. They were tasty, too, but I didn't enjoy them like I used to. I know they are not the best things for me and I don't like the feelings I have AFTER I overdo it - unless I plan it ahead of time on special occasions, etc.

I did exercise Saturday and Sunday - that's good. It had been TOO long. I did ET for 22 minutes on Saturday and walked a little bit on campus - like 15 minutes while Rachel was with Tutor. Then I walked an hour and a half on Sunday with my friend in the neighborhood.

I am facing a very challenging week with food. I have three events that will be loaded with food - our company Christmas party tonight at an Italian Restaurant. A dinner at one of husbands business associates-the business associate will cook and he is a gourmet cook - renown for his skill in the kitchen. And then we are having an Open House party Saturday night at our house. The one at our house will probably be the least challenging.

I plan to not eat much, other than at these events - although not starve myself so that I overeat in a major way. Then just have a little bit of whatever is being served. Then exercise, exercise, exercise all I can.

I like to weight only when I know think there will be a loss showing. The last time I weighed was November 10 - so it has been about a month since I last weighed. I'd kind of like to know what I weight right now, but don't want to weight if I am going to be discouraged. In the past that has sent me on the "give up" path and I have come too far. I will think about it for awhile and decide what to do. I have to go to my friends house to weigh because I don't own a scale and don't want to. Weighing every day does not work for me at all. Keep up the good work everyone the holidays won't last forever! Enjoy them while they are here - just don't over do it!

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

Moody on 12/11/2006:
Yeh it does sound like you have alot of challenges this week, but I am sure you will face them and get thru them just fine. Like you said, just don't let yourself go into any situation too hungry!

I don't like to weigh myself either if I am not feeling lighter because I have the same mentality you do and end up getting very discouraged. Good luck when you DO decide tho!

tourguidebarbie on 12/11/2006:
I HATE weighing myself when i feel lighter because those are usually the days when the scale wants to be mean and it goes up! haha. Weight yourself when you feel comfortable and just remember that it's just a number. Feeling better about yourself is the real goal! Good luck!

borntocry on 12/11/2006:
Same here; I also have not been weighing myself lately because I fear I have not lost anything. What I do is I weigh myself with my clothes on. That gives me a rough idea of whether I've lost, gained, or stayed the same. That way if my weight is higher than I expected, I can tell myself it's just that my clothes are a little heavier, and I don't get discouraged.

Good luck at all those parties! Hopefully the gourmet chef will concentrate more on quality and presentation than on quantity, as gourmet chefs generally do.

WorkingIt on 12/11/2006:
Lots of holiday celebrations! Good job on the exercise and controlling the eating this weekend! YAY!

tourguidebarbie on 12/11/2006:
Hey!... again.. haha. Just wanted to say, "Don't worry!" I am not telling the internet people personal information about myself... I'm being very safe! Just so you know! :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 12/11/2006:
good for you on NOT overdoing it!

borntocry on 12/12/2006:
Hey, thanks for the Key Lime Pie recipe! It is my husband's favourite dessert, so even though I like the meringue on top too, I want to make it the way he remembers it, and hopefully your recipe will come close (he is from the same part of the country as you, after all!). We don't get Key Limes here so it will have to be the other kind (I only just found out they are called Persian limes!).

Will let you know how it turns out!

Weight: 155.6

Yesterday was OK food wise. I can't believe that when I have emotional days lately (and there have been SO many of them) that I don't go to food. I'm not sure what I AM doing to cope nothing that is working very well - that's for sure - but food didn't work for me EITHER!

Anyway - menus for yesterday were:

B: Coffee, Special K Bar

L: Lima Beans, Cornbread

S: Chex Mix

D: Pancakes, syrup and Milk

Total was around 1350.

I didn't exerise but I did this morning! YEA! Got back on the ET for 22 minutes. I want to do another 20 minutes tonight. It felt really good. I will probably have to build up a little bit again, but it will be OK.

Have a great weekend, everyone. I will try to catch up on your diaries this morning.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

WorkingIt on 12/09/2006:
I know what you mean about the emotional roller coaster!!! I guess we just wake up every day and fight harder on those days. Or throw the body a curve and do nothing hehehe. Great job on exercise!

I WISH I knew how to make FGT's that actually tasted good LOL They never, ever work out for me!

Despite the emotional collercoaster with child yesterday was OK on food, I think. It was kind of low actually so balanced out some of earlier days slight overages.

Menus were:

B: Coffee PBJ Sandwich

L: Fried Green Tomatoes (4) with catsup, Creamed corn (homemade from fresh corn - delicious) Lima Beans, Kale

D: Kudos Bar

Well, it was certainly a vegetable day! Vegetables are my FAVORITES) I had lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time and we went out to a restaurant that serves all this great home-cooking food. It really exceptional. I had all my favorites. The Fried Green Tomatoes were really good yesterday.

Total was around 940-1000, I'd say. I coun't find the count for the FGTs.

Got some exercise but it wasn't exactly on purpose. I wound up haveing to track daughter down at school and it's a long walk from parking and up and down steps multiple times at school and library. I must do better this weekend. It is really cold today - 10 degrees. Going up to 32 and then some warmer over the next couple of days. Wierd for this time of year.

Subjective observation - I don't feel I am continuing to lose - think it because no exercise. I know it will be slow coming off from here on because I am probably down to the last 12-15 lbs. I must exercise and NOT get impatient. I am still SO much better off than 3 months ago!!

Thanks for all your jokes and comments, everyone. Your Diary Pal - Holly

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 12/08/2006:
Regular exercise each day will definitely help shed the last few pounds that you have left to lose. Do a combo of cardio and toning throughout the week and you should see some movement on the scale.

By the way, I left you a joke on your Dec 6th entry. I like the idea of doing a joke off each month. Im looking forward to the next one! :o)

Moody on 12/08/2006:
I wish I loved veggies as much as you! I tend to get in a rut with them, eating the same ones over and over til I burn out on them!

You are very close to goal so yeh, you may need to kick up the exercise..those last pounds are the hardest (or so I have heard). But YOU can do this!! Look how far you have come!

maria777 on 12/08/2006:
I like veggies, too! Looks like you're doing real well! Big Smile!

THANKS - everyone who wrote a joke on my diary! They were wonderful! Those of you who didn't send a joke - go to yesterday's entry and write me your favorite and read all the others! Thanks for being "clean" jokers! Laugh therapy is the best. We should have joke day once a month or something! I will write more later tonight.....

OK it's later tonight and Rachel is with tutor. Will post yesterday's menu. I "kind of" blew it. My intention was to have a big (and I mean big!) chocolate chip cookie from the good foods cooperative grocery that Rachel likes to stop at on way to dance and not eat any dinner, but I munched out on junk food since Mark was not home didn't have to cook. Oh, well, today was another day.

Menus:

B: Coffee and Granola Bar

S: Pretzels

L: Applebee's Asian Chicken Salad with RF Dressing 1/2 Order

S: None

D: Chocolate Chip Cookie Chex Mix

S: Kudos Bar (can you believe it!) and 4 oz 1% milk

I belive that makes it about 1425 calories for the day. I aim for 1200-1400 so not "too" bad.

I am SO pre-occupied with stuff that I can't think straight. I backed into a light pole this evening on Campus and tore up my bumper on my truck! It will have to be replaced - $500 deductible! I couldn't see it (obviously).

Due to the fact that everyone seemed to like the once a month laugh therapy joke idea - I think we will do it. I chose the 15th of the month as joke day. So everyone be thinking of the next best joke and I'll remind us all to post them. Right now I don't have a sense of humor. Mama said there'd be days like this. And I must remember there is such a thing as MUCH worse ones, too! Count my blessings? YUP, I do. It's just a hard patch right now regarding parenting and know right thing to do. 'Heavy Sigh'

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

Yesterday was OK. Stayed right around 1300 calories. Menus were:

B: Coffee and Rice Chex

L: Chicken Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll w butter cake

D: Chicken and Dumplings, Kudos Bar

This look like it should be about 3500 calories! I had my monthly professional association meeting - that is a fixed menu for everyone BUT I only ate about 1/3 or less of everything.

The Chicken and Dumplings were one of those Crockpot meals and was really good. I had made it the night before for Mark and just ate some leftover. Really could have done without anything but knew I "should" eat. 1300 is not bad. I STILL need to exercise. I will, I will, I will get back on the exercise track soon. Maybe can walk at lunch. Maybe can do 30 minutes on ET tonight. I am fighting feelings right now. I'll get it figured out. It will be OK. Riding out the storm right now. It could be worse! I think I need "laugh" therapy. Someone tell me a JOKE!

And here is a joke for you *My Favorite one actually* Two guys walked into a bar

The Third one ducked... HAHAHAHA... get it, a bar? Ok so if you still don't get it do this. stick out both of your pointer fingers. Now touch the tips of each together with your tumbs pointing up... now raise your fingers to your forehead, now push your forehead through your fingers... get it a BAR??? haha. Ok i'm done... haha Barbie

1300 calories is great! Thanks for the tip on the fitness centers, that will help an awful lot!

A guy walks into a restaurant with an ostrich trailing behind him. He says "I'll take the ham and eggs please" the ostrich says "I'll have the same." When the bill comes it is $15.42. The man reaches into his pocket and brings out the exact change including the tip.

Two weeks later, he returns with the ostrich still following behind him. "I'll have steak and fries and a glass of your richest wine." the ostrich says "I'll have the same" Again, he reaches his hand into his pocket and pulls out the exact change, including the tip.

Over the next few months, the man keeps going to the restaurant and the ostrich orders everything he orders. And everytime the bill comes, the man has exact change, including the tip.

On day the owner asked him, "Sir, you come in here and that ostrich is always with you, orders exactly what you order, and you always have exact change! How do you know how much the meal will cost, you order a different thing each time!"

The man says "Well sir, one day I was walking down the beach and found a bottle. I rubbed it and a genie granted me two wishes. My first wish was to always have enough money to buy everything I wanted whenever I decided to make a purchase."

The owner said "Where does the ostrich come in?"

The guy says "I also wished for a chick with long legs who would agree with everything I say."

Even though Im a blonde, I LOVE blond jokes. I hope you like this one:

A blonde is overweight, so her doctor puts her on a diet.

"I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat the procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least five pounds."

When the blonde returns, she's lost nearly 20 pounds.

"Why, that's amazing!" the doctor says. "Did you follow my instructions?"

The blonde nods. "I'll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead that third day." "From hunger, you mean?" said the doctor.

"No, from skipping," replied the blonde.

Wasn't able to post on Monday so will just post total calories and go from there.

Been doing OK, but so busy not much exercise lately - would be frustrating, but I have too much else on my mind and I'm doing OK on calories-at least mostly.

Sunday we had company - wanted to have special holiday dinner with friends and made a lot of Rachel's favorites. I ate some of everything and claories were higher than usual - 1600-1700 (some things hard to track) but that shouldn't be too bad as rest of week was pretty low. I really don't want to do more math than I'm doing right now. Unless I stop losing or (heaven forbid) start gaining, I'm not going to calculate anything more than each day's total.

Monday I had a birthday lunch from back in October that we had posphoned with a co-worker. I had really been wanting a good cheeseburger so we went to this "roadhouse" type resturant and I had one. They grind their own meat and it was pretty lean. I ate pepperjack cheese on it-YUM - no mayo. For some reason this restaurant serves yeast rolls with EVERYTHING and I had one of those, too. Menus for Monday were:

B; Coffee, grapefruit

S: None

L: Cheeseburger, roll, about 5 homemade potato chips Couldn't finish burger - ate about 2/3

S: 100 calorie pack

D: Bagel, RF cream cheese (met friend at Panera Bread Co!) Sample of Chicken and Dumplings

S: Kudos Bar

Total for the day 1705

Kind of a lot both days, but only two days and still not up to 2000 calories a day either day. I will go lower tomorrow and it will eventually balance - especially if I EXERCISE-huh! Smiles.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

I walked yesterday - at the Arboretum on campus with my friend while Rachel was with tutor. - about one hour. I also went up and down stair at the library two times - four long flights. I went up them two at a time. Kind of like a sprint. That felt good.

We went to a play on campus last night - A Raisin in the Sun - was done by the University Drama Club. They did a real good job. I cried at the end-that is my barometer.

I am in a hurry today - want to catch up with everyone's diary and shop for some things online - so I won't post whole menus - just calories for Friday and yesterday. I did fine Friday - but went a little over on Saturday due to late night "snack" at resturant with tutor and his wife. They are very nice people. We went to the play with them and they wanted to go out afterwards because they hadn't eaten. But I still didn't over do it and those lower days this week helped balance it all. I think my body must always be guessing what I am up to beause some days are lower, some are higher. I don't know if that is good, but it what I am aable to do right now.

Friday - 1120

Saturday - 1510

Drank more water yesterday. Am gearing up for the holidays goodies. It has already started at work. We received a HUGH tin of flavored popcorn Friday. I tasted it but that's all. It was better than average, too. There will be cookies and candies and pies and cakes.....but those things are not good for my body. I must remember how bad I felt when I was consuming so much of them - compared to how good I feel now. I will pick and chose small indulgences and leave it at that. Sounds like a plan! Have a Blessed day - everyone.

Weather is getting more "seasonable" here in KY - temp will drop almost 40 degrees in the next 24 hours. Oh, boy! I know a lot of people have already seen the brunt of the storm cross the US - Mother Nature is amazing isn't she?

Anyway - yesterday was OK. I just couldn't make myself exercise. Too tired too late. I had a date with a friend to walk tomorrow - so I'll get back on it. I have been doing my crunches every morning and I have squeezed some walking in this week. Maybe this weekend will work out better for workouts!

Menus for yesterday were:

B: Coffee, Oatmeal, Ham

S: Pretzels

L: 1/2 Ham sandwich, 1/2 apple, Ice Cream Sandwich

S: None

D: Mac and Cheese

S: Kudos Bar

Total of 1110 calories. I am not keeping cals this low on purpose. I just am not that hungry. I think I will make up for it during the holidays. I know that the body shuts down metabolism if cals are too low and I don't want that to happen. It will all even out next time I have a "hungry" day...

Will check back in on the weekend. Have a Blessed Day in the meantime!

Yesterday was OK day. Ate breakfast again. YEA! I don't know why I was forgetting to do that for a few days....I think maybe subconsciencely I was thinking I would "save" up in case I was offered something during the day that I really wanted but it was high in calories. Although I didn't get hungry on those days, I "should" have. It is never good to skip a meal - too much flux in blood sugar and makes headache and other negative stuff.

Menus yesterday were:

B: Banana, Coffee, small piece of ham

S: None

L: Chicken, Salad, Bread

S: Pineapple Upsie-down Cake (I made this for my co-worker's birthday and had one small piece) I don't get as nervous over food around the office as I used to. I think since I am seeing results and realize why I am seeing results is because I don't eat everything I see anymore.

D: 1/5 of Stouffer's Skillet Dinner - Grilled Chicken and vegetables-If you haven't tried this - get it- I'ts good, filling and not bad on the nutrition and calorie count and it is QUICK! Dinner in 20 minutes.

S: Kudos Bar

Total Calories for the day - 985

Walked for an hour with friend. Started to weigh at her house, but didn't. Was afraid I would be disappointed and I don't feel like I want to deal with that right now. Was so tired by 8:00 I was asleep on couch. Haven't been sleeping well lately - child issues, I guess. I am going to make myself stay up until 10:30 at least tonight and hope that helps. I hate to take drugs to sleep.

Thanks for the encouraging words left on my diary from yesterday. No one is always carefree and I am no exception. But for the most part, I do know what's important and I hold the right things dear so....this too shall pass.

Ended the day yesterday with about 1000 calories for the day. One kind of "funny" thing - My co-worker and I walked 30 minutes at lunch - the only exercise I got in yesterday (I will do better!!) and then we decided to split a Origianl Submarino from Fazoli's. After I ate it (that's all I had for lunch) I went back to my desk and got my notebook out to log the calories - looked it up on Calorie King (I like that one best for Fast Food)- WOW I was in for a surprise!!! Those things have 1390 calories in them!!! OMGoodness! I told them to hold mayo and I took the sausage off my half, and I didn't eat quite all of mine but - still - a whole one of those is more than a whole day's calorie allowance!! Well, I was so busy yesterday morning I hadn't eaten breakfast and I wasn't hungry 'til lunch so at least I had the rest of the day to balance it all out. So I did OK for the day, but gee what an eye opener. I "guessed" 1100 for the whole sandwich before I ordered it so I was budgeting 550 for my calories total through lunch. It goes to show if we don't count and look up some of the things we eat our "guesses" could be very wrong. I sure did enjoy that sandwich, though, by the way! Tee-Hee

Menus were:

B: Coffee L: 1/2 Submarino Sandwich

D: 1 Fish stick, 4 potato cakes, pineapple juice

Not a lot of food, but I really didn't get hungry yesterday.

I started out today better - I DID eat breakfast today. I have noticed I am tending to skip it. Used to be that if I skipped breakfast I was hungry in the afternoon, but not the case lately.......I will watch that I am not skipping much of anything - meals or snacks - if I don't it will mess me up in the long run!

Still stressed on some levels. Need to exercise more, too. Today I have another chance to make another success....or not - I will chose success.

Blessings to us all.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

borntocry on 11/29/2006:
That is so true. I am horrified sometimes at the calories in food - especially restaurant food. I remember once my parents-in-law took us out to eat at this place they love - I think it's Don Pablo's - and I thought I would be healthy and get the veggie fajitas instead of something cheesy. Only when I got home and checked on calorieking.com did I realise that those fajitas had something like 1400 calories! I felt sick to my stomach! And totally cheated because I hadn't even really wanted that and only got it because I thought it would be healthy!
