Having a good week. Continuing to eat healthy for most part and within good calorie goals. We splurged tonight with Smashburgers - no fries - just the burgers.  I had vegetables and fruit for lunch so probably not enought protein today - but will make up for it tomorrow.  We "had" to eat out - wink-wink...having the downstairs - including the kitchen - painted  at long last.  I was concerned since I am changing the color due to new countertops and the old color didn't "go".   Turns out I love it!

My back is better - no OTC pain meds for 3 days!  I still am not walking or exercise of any kind.  But I think tomorrow I will go ahead and take the OTC med and walk some.  Gotta do it.  Still not sure about getting on the bike - don't want a set back - but maybe I could ride 5 miles?????  Not sure!

You know what - I was thinking about being back on the site, etc.  I know I was gone a long time - but it's so funny - the folks who are still on here haven't been far from my mind the whole time.  It's so much like "coming home"!  Thank you Webmaster for maintaining the community and being here for us!

It's good to hear from you're KentuckyGirl. I've too have thought about the people on this site when i was back sliding. Hope your health continues to improve. Keep posting !

Umpqua on 06/19/2015:
I'm glad to hear your back is feeling better, that stinks about the fall but it's one of those freak accidents. I totally agree with you about this site, I feel like I can always come back here to get on track and I'll be welcomed!

That's awesome about your kitchen and thanks for the compliments on mine. It took a LONG time DIY but it was so worth the wait. We kept the old backsplash and countertops since my husband said we would need to demo walls down to studs if we tried to remove them. Eventually we will, but we're hoping to get a good few years out of our little remodel. We put a concrete overlay product over the existing laminate countertops after much research. It's called Ardex and it's held up great so far.

We painted the cabinets ourselves and that was a tedious project since I did most of it myself. LOTS of sanding and we also used wood filler since they're knotty pine and we wanted to disguise that. It worked, but we ended up having to use a sanding tool to really get them smooth, which took a lot of elbow grease and time. We removed the doors and drawers and worked on them out on our enclosed porch. After everything was cleaned, patched and sanded we primed with a color blocking oil-based primer. The paint was Benjamin Moore Aura which is supposed to be one of the best for cabinets - 2 coats of that on both sides of the doors and bases. Doesn't sound like a lot but it took forever! The paint is also BM Swept Away and I just love the color.

If you are interested in doing your cabinets check out: http://www.younghouselove.com

They have tons of tutorials and have tackled just about every project DIY. Sorry for the book, I love talking about house projects as you know, haha. Let me know if you have any questions in the future!

hollybelle on 06/20/2015:
Thanks for the info! I have thought about painting our cabinets know it is a long process cause I looked at some how to's on line. Now I just can't decide what color to do them in. Our woodwork is cream, not white and I don't think I'd like that. I tend to like the darker colors, but our new countertop is very dark. The countertop is a whole other story. We went with Granite Transformations because they can do in ONE day and don't have to demo your old one - it's a granite product overlay. My boss had hers done the same way and liked it. I would say it's OK. Would like to demo the whole thing and redo, but like you - I think if we paint cabinets with the new countertops we will get all the time we need out of them. Really want to downsize to ranch - one story w basement in the next 3 years. I LOVE DIY and house projects. I am a bit stymied in that husband is NOT a DIY'er. He is barely a DI'er. He is a great man, but handy - he's not! So I have to do most myself. I have a new reasonably priced handy man now - also reference from my boss and he can do anything. So life is better in this way! Your project is GREAT looking. I'm very proud of you. Also - dont every worry about talking too much about this stuff to me - I LOVE it!!! I am a video and HGTV addict!

Hi guys-it's been a long, long time! Haven't posted since beginning of March 2014!  It is so good to see some familar names in the recent diary entries.  I am doing OK.  Had gained quite a bit of weight back for awhile but lost it again and am doing OK on the health front right now....So well that most of my clothes are very loose - need new pants!  Those of you who know me know I don't really weigh except when forced to - at the dr. office - LOL!  I have been having a hard time walking or cycling because of a back injury (I fell) in Spring this year - but am on the mend thanks to my wonderful chiropractor!  So planning to get some exercise in beginning this week.  It is unbearably hot and humid here in KY - not usually this humid in June.

I am going to try and post at least once a week.  There is so much going on in life right now - busy at "new" job - I changed jobs a year and a half ago and I am still not sure how I feel about that!  I became a Grandmother a year and a half ago, too and I babysit quite a bit.  I have an "older" mother I like to keep in contact with and help (when she will LET me) and then there is all the stuff we all deal with - housework, husband, friends , church and keepng up with what needs to be done and things I want to do.......can you say pedicure - I need one ASAP-Ha!

grannyannie on 06/16/2015:
Welcome back Holly and well done on your loss! I remember when you entered the wonderful world of granny-hood! Mine are growing up so fast!

hollybelle on 06/19/2015:
Yes, can't believe how fast it's been -Rosalie is 19 months old!!

ohioraven on 06/16/2015:
Yeah, I remember you. Kentucky Girl. Welcome back.

hollybelle on 06/19/2015:
Thanks!

Umpqua on 06/16/2015:
Nice work Holly and welcome back! Your life is so busy and I can understand since we have 3 "older" parents that are increasingly needing our helps with stuff. I think staying busy keeps me active and not eating too much haha. Yep, my hubby and I saw P-Funk several years ago in New Haven and they have inhuman levels of energy. Glad you enjoyed the show!

hollybelle on 06/19/2015:
Yes, P funk was great. I love George Clinton. Great show - small venue and so much fun-very diverse crowd - all ages, colors and lifestyles. That is where I fell. I swear no alcohol - you know I don't drink! Well, hardly don't drink - have a cocktail 3-4 times a year - maybe! My girlfriend that went with me doesn't drink, either. I had forgotten to take off my prescrip sunglasses and we parked so far away - the sunglasses were fine during the concert-So many lights on stage etc. But walking back to the car after dark - there was a ledge on the sidewalk and down I went. But energy is right! They played for two and a half hours straight. No breaks.

Did OK on food yesterday - ate bread at dinner, but didn't have any during the day - so OK where normally wouldn't have bread at night.  Went to bed early.........-2 degree with wind chill here.  10 degrees regular.  Going to  warm up by end of the week!  Oatmeal and coffee for breakfast.....more later today!

You're doing really well! Good luck with the dog-proof landscaping haha. I can't wait to get back to gardening, we'll have a few weeks after I get home before I can get out there. Here in OR the daffodils and forsythia are blooming along with some of the flowering trees!

Did the Elliptical and some weights and some dancing.  Babysat with babygirl and cooked a couple of different things - great healthy soup recipe and made some chicken for tacos and other things this week. In a nutshell I ate too much this weekend.  Not awful - but not well.  Trying to get back on track and I am def not giving up.  One day at a time.

On the home front - had the outside of the house, the driveway and the sidewalk pressure washed and it looks great.  Now if the SNOW would go away so we can begin cleaning up the yard - lots to do this year.  Want to do some landscaping in the back that will be dog- resistant, LOL!

More later this week.

grannyannie on 03/03/2014:
Good job on the workout. I'm also having a horrible time getting on track and staying there for more than a couple of days.

Good food day so far today and not planning anything to wreck it!  Have dinner planned out - so success is on the horizon. Will be at my cal goal today!!!  Going to spend some time on the elliptical trainer, too!

We got about 5 inches of snow last night and the roads were a mess this morning.  Many people didn't come in to work.  I did, though.  Only about 20 minutes later than usual.  Woo-Hoo.  New car goes in the snow very well thanks to all-wheel drive!

Hope everyone has had a good one.  Later......

13lb lost 14 to go, you've pretty much lost half of what you want to loose, that's fantastic! Well do you! I hope I can carry on and so as well as you have.

hollybelle on 03/04/2014:
Thanks for the comment - unfortunately my weight is not what is posted. I need to update it, but hate to - so will probably just take the weight number off for now. I am about 6 lbs above the posted weight now. :-(

I haven't jumped ship.  I haven't had time to post everyday this week.  It's a busy week for me - my professional association event is tomorrow and I'm involved in that - takes extra time away from my job and playing catch up....but am doing pretty well.  No exercise since Sunday, but eating is good.  I ate dessert with tonight, but it was a mini brownie thing and won't wreck the week.  There will be health choices at the event tomorrow, so I'll choose well and go from there.  It will be a long day-leave the house at 7:00 and get back home around 6:00.  So should burn a few extra calories tomorrow!  .

Crazy times at work.  But hanging in there.

Going to get to have an early dinner with my friend and her husband on Friday.  They will be in town for her chemotherapy and she will feel ok until a couple of days after :so they wanted to catch an early Valentine's dinner with us before heading back to Louisville.  Still can't believe she is so sick.  Don't take any of your friends for granted.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 02/13/2014:
How nice that you'll get to spend a little time with your friend while she's feeling OK. Good plan for your event today too, I'm sure you'll burn some calories with all the running around!

Starting the week out with a post on DDs to keep myself gong!  Finished the weekend with a pretty good day.  I'd say calories were in fairly good shape and I had a 1.5 mile walk in deep snow with minimal damage to my foot - just a little pain.  Went to the grocery and have healthy choices for lunches and dinners, etc.  Plan another walk or Elliptical trainer session tonight - give me energy at the end of the day, please, Lord!

More later.....

Welcome back, Holly! I'm glad you were able to walk without too much foot pain. My MIL has the same foot problem as you and the shoe inserts have really helped her. I hope you have an excellent day!

They do seem to help! Thanks for the comments!

grannyannie on 02/10/2014:
I've had plantar fasciitis and solved it with good arch supports. Have a great week, Holly.

hollybelle on 02/10/2014:
Good to know I'm on the right track. I have some really good ones and they have helped lately so I am going to get more!! It is so painful! I get spasms in my feet sometimes and shooting pain!

Recap of yesterday - Foods - not so good because I went to a concert with girlfriends and ate out - limited choices and all bad!  I had shrimp and grits and a cocktail.  Oh well.  I am not worried about it because one day does not make or break you and its OK.  I did only 15 minutes on Elliptical trainer yesterday - it's a start and am going on a snowy walk with the dogs and husband in a few minutes. Got new arch supports for shoes/boots so hoping no foot pain later.....

Ate two small ww pancakes w pecans and maple syrup for breakfast along with coffee.  Lunch??  Who knows - maybe grilled chicken salad and not sure what for dinner. I may make some vegetable soup for this week.  More later.......

Enough is enough.  I have to make some changes to this downhill slide I'm on.  Working too much, eating wrong stuff, not exercising, not having much fun, feeling slug-like!  I kind of like my job so I'm probably not going to be able to change that, but I can do a little something about the rest and I need this site and my DD pals to do it. I haven't gained a lot of weight back - prob about 8 lbs - but I gotta get it off.  Since I regularly posted here I've weighed in all the way from my best low to almost my highest weight.  Right now I'm in between closer to the top!  The majority is that I am not doing any exercise.  Mostly used to walk and ride bike do some Zumba or other classes - but thanks to plantar fascitis (strain of muscle on bottom of foot) I can't walk too much or pain is awful.  Bike rides have been non-existent since cold weather.  Today I am going to try the elliptical trainer that is in my BASEMENT!  We'll see how that is on the foot.  Food plan is cut out the sugar!  Not entirely, but way way back on that stuff.

I have a "milestone" birthday coming up in October this year and a hiking vacation planned in June (Santa Fe) and I want to get in better shape to walk some canyons and look & feel good at "this age"!!   Deep breath......here I go.....AGAIN!
