Bonfire today.  We will leave around 2:00 for the slightly more than one hour drive.  That's too early in my opinion, but husband wants to get there a little after 3:00 and it's his family.  Weather is great.  High predicted today is 67F and sunny.  The setting is a small farm in N KY.  Burlington, KY, actually.  There is a big pond and they bring out picnic tables and lots of great benches from the barn.  The woodpile for he bonfire is huge. It is all the wood cousin Ron has cut off his property all year.  He pours gasoline all over it and tosses a torch on it  -  as you can imagine, there is a big BOOM when it lights.  I always hope we get there after it is lit!   It usually rains on the bonfire day - last year it misted all day long - but we didn't get wet because we stood next to the fire and the rain evaporated!  It' that hot and big.  There are usually around 100-150 people there - depending on the weather.  .

I am not that concerned about overeating.  I have eaten more calories (although not that much more) the last few days and I don't feel deprived 

It is very windy today and I have the windows opened in the front and back of the house so we can air it out.  I love to do that. 

I am up early this morning as I hit the hay early last night to rest up from Baby Girl being here.  I will also keep her Monday and Tuesday because her school is still out for Fall Break.  I slept well.  Husband and I will go for a walk early this morning as soon as he gets up and is ready to go.  It's actually still dark outside!  I have been up since 5:30.

Love bonfires . Looks like life is good with you except for your sciatica pain which must be frustrating and very painful. Enjoy your descriptions of your adventures with "baby girl" . All of my grandchildren are pre teen and above so no more babies in the family.

Whew - what a day!  Went to the Orchard with baby girl.  Husband took the day off work and went with  us -fun!  Baby girl was so brave - she fed the goats by hand!  We took a couple of pictures which is a challenge for me with the moving target that she is!  I can't hardly see with my sunglasses, the sun still in my eyes and the camera screen/  It was comical.  She decided she didn't want to go on the train ride - which is just as well because it was extra. We'll go next year.  She also didn't want to go into the bouncy house - there was a big line and there were some rowdy kids in front of us and behind us - adults can't go through.  She looked and looked at pumpkins but wouldn't choose one.  She already has some at her house and here at our house, too.  Last night we took her to see a neighborhood yard display that is quite an elaborate version of "The Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin" patch - complete with snoopy on the doghouse with Woodstock at the bottom, Charlie and Lucy and a whole bunch of trick or treaters.  It is very well done.  She was speechless - which is unusual for our girl! 

Food today has not been the best - but not really high calorie.  I'll be OK. I am going to go for a walk later and tomorrow before we go to the bonfire.  My sciatica is better, but I won't push it hard for now.  

Didn't sleep really well last night as baby girl was restless.  She slept in a bit this morning, though.  I will hit the hay early tonight.  Bonfire tomorrow night will be a late night.

Took another day off walking, but food was good.  I will heal.  I just increased too much all at once.  So prayers for me today:  "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness....."  2 Corinthians 12:9

I will clean a couple of bathrooms and do the wood floor and carpet.  Exciting, I know - try to hold back your envy!  I am able to do that stuff.  Baby girl is coming tonight to spend the night and will be with me all day tomorrow.  Weather is predicted good - around 75F so I think I will try to take her to pumpkin patch.  Good place for pictures if she will let me take them!  Fingers crossed.  

Good food planned today. Time to start thinking about what to take to the next potential diet wrecker - the bonfire on the farm Saturday-a kind of family reunion for husband's family.  It is a fun time and I believe I can control the food for most of the day!

Yes take your rest. I am also feeling some kinda pain the past half week...thigh and glute pain only in one leg. Thinking it's probably due to sitting too long...i think. no worries though.

I do pray for you - but i also KNOW you are going to be ok. your body needs it's rest.

pumpkin patch sounds so fun! I'm going apple picking on this coming Monday - Columbus Day holiday.

yes...you can always bring loads of veggies / even ray veggies / to these types of parties to help keep cals down!

Thanks, HOP. I know I will be OK, too. I am a little dramatic, sometimes. I pray about things in my life, though-it helps me a lot. :-)

Btw, i was looking at your photos on fb last night...your daughter is BEAUTIFUL! loved her ballroom dance photos WOW!

Thank you. She was pretty good and travelled around the country from the time she was 16. She taught ballroom dance to adults from that age, too. She gave up dance for many reasons and now works in the fitness industry. She taught classes and was a trainer for awhile, now she is the personal training director for a big independent gym here in town. She loves it, but she works too much. She is body building and want to compete. She tried the bikini division competitions but she didn't like that at all. She said they were to "prissy". Go figure.

OK it sucks I had to take a day off walking altogether because of sciatica.  Feels some better, but I think it will just come back again if I walk more than 2 miles.  I think I increased too much too fast.  I have had sciatica off and on for a long long time.  So......I will walk 2 miles and see how that does.  I have to have my car washed today - 1/2 price "Senior" Day on Wed and Sun ($9!!!) and I've missed the last 3 weeks.  I usually take it every other week.  Later today if the shorter walk goes OK I'll do something else.  I have lots of house work to do, too - going out of town this weekend - again - and going to have baby girl Thursday night through Friday night.   

Yesterday was OK on food - not wonderful - but hung in there with lighter dinner after big lunch.  Not bad at all.

You know what to do then - lessen up your walking. You were really delving into it a ton now that you are off work. Yes, I def agree that you increased too fast. Really, i do think you should take a couple days completely off & then do it less.

$9 is def a good price for a car wash...man are car washes expensive. They never do a great job vacuuming inside though....ugh. I always do a better job myself on the inside.

try to do the walking less than you want to. Your body needs rest and time to heal. Walking every other day may be a good solution.

Yesterday was OK on food - not great - but OK.  I walked 3 miles.  Sciatica is hurting very badly today despite lots of stretching.  Not going to walk this morning.  Will see how pain is tonight.  

I have professional association meeting at lunch time.  Hopefully will have dessert I don't care for and entrée that is half way healthy.  

I have gotten the house in decent order over all  -  hope to get to some deeper cleaning in the next two weeks.  The heat is back - but it is supposed to drop down again later this week. I may try alternate exercise. Bike or elliptical????  Walking is getting very boring-not to mention the pain.

Ouch. Hope your sciatica improves very soon. Bike would be better than walking pain-wise wouldn't it?

It's pretty bad. Like a toothache in my hip and down leg to heel. I have had it intermittently for a long long time.

Chiropractor maybe, but not doc. I have been using yoga stretching exercises but need to do them more often. That helps and no overdoing the exercising - walking, etc. But I am trying to excelerate my walking, etc.

Well, yesterday was challenging.  I really did OK considering all factors.  I ate very light up to dinner.  We went to the Italian place for my MIL's birthday.  She was so happy.  I didn't even try to order something healthy - I ordered my favorite - lasagna.  I mean this place, which has been operating since 1933, has KILLER lasagna.  It is absolutely fabulous.  Their sauce is wonderful.  My only critique of them has always been the bread - they serve traditional plain Italian bread - sliced thin in a basket and it's not warm-it's meant to mop up the wonderful sauce, I guess.  I like warm crusty bread.  Oh well, the rest of the food makes up for it.  All the salad dressings are homemade and so are their desserts. The lasagna serving is MASSIVE so I ate half of it - of course that means I still have half in the refrigerator.   I also had a side salad with oil and vinegar and one piece of bread and a few bites of calamari.  Other choices at the table were, spaghetti and meatballs, muscles in garlic sauce, eggplant parmesan and meat ravioli.  No exercise yesterday except a little mall walking with MIL. 

We have a big bonfire (again in Northern KY) event with Lots of food (think family reunion) next Saturday so I better do lots of exercise and eat right this week.  I will work the left over lasagna in gradually- probably two servings at lunch this week and walk A LOT!

Busy week with professional association meeting on Tuesday - still have stuff to prepare and the November meeting to work on.

Sounds really good. I tend to stay away from the pasta high carbs but I remember very well how wonderful they taste. Just not willing to have the after effects on the scale. Looks like you have a busy week take care.

Yesterday was a nice day - went to the forest and walked 4 miles, as predicted.  I swear half of it was steep uphill.  This was very different than my usual 3-5 miles of walking on nice rolling paved blacktop, etc.  It was a good reminder what real hiking is like.  I enjoyed it.  We got "misted" on a lot of the time, but no real rain until we got in the car and came home. 

Food was so-so yesterday.  I think this is OK because I have had some very low cal days thi week and it was not a totally overboard day at all - just more than I have been doing.  I also had some junk food - like breakfast was at a fast food restaurant - biscuit with bacon and egg - no cheese at least -but lunch was healthy and then for dinner  left overs and another apple with caramel dip and peanut butter.  

Later today we are doing more travel - going to see mother and father in law.  It's mother in law's birthday this week - Tuesday and we will go out to eat.  I will be careful eating out.  I intend to make her a german chocolate cake for her birthday  her favorite.  Unfortunately it's also one of my favorites.  I plan to have one piece and leave it at that.  This will be a REAL temptation.  I hope to get some walking in, too, but not sure I will be able to with all that is going on tomorrow.  We'll see.  It's only one day and I will get beyond it if I do have a high cal/low activity day!.  


Just a bit of an update - german chocolate cake made and husband announced that first cousin and her spouse will be joining us for dinner tonight AND we are going to good Italian restaurant - so I am sunk on calories today - I love the lasagna at this place (BTW this restaurant was in the movie Rain Man) and we haven't been there in so long - so will try to go easy on cals the rest of the day and have what I want tonight - including a small piece of the cake and tomorrow is another day with a 5 mile walk in store!

We are going to Bernheim Forest in Clermont KY today - to hike and have lunch with our friend, Joe.  Probably a 4 mile uphill climb.  The weather is not going to be very good, but we have had this planned for a long time.  Like we were having unseasonably hot weather up to this point - in true KY form we are now having unseasonably cool weather.  It will be in the mid 50s and cloudy with chance of sprinkles.  Will wear my new hiking boots and dress appropriately.  I have worn my hiking boots a few times.  They should be OK for a 4 miler.  

Food was good yesterday.  I walked 3 miles yesterday.

Took a day off morning walking yesterday due to sciatica (spelling????) and I did yoga and push ups and abs.  I did wind up walking 1 mile and going to the playground with babygirl and pushing her in the swing for a LONG time.  Back walking today but only 3 miles. Sciatica still there and is a problem.  It's an old problem and usually I can treat it with yoga position stretches and Tylenol.  

Food was great yesterday.  Today has been excellent, too until this afternoon I broke down and had an apple with some caramel dip and peanut butter.  But......if that's as bad as it gets - that's OK because I haven't had many sweets at all.  I try to have sweets 2-3 times a week - BUT try to make them healthier sweet choices - like the apple and caramel or peanut butter or both or a granola bar with nuts and fruit, etc.  Nothing too heavy duty on sweets. But if I don't have some sweets I will feel deprived and go overboard!

Lots to do this afternoon. Everyone have a good one!!

The only thing that helps me with sciatica is chocolate mint anything. This week my back has been twinging - as if the disc is at the brink of herniating again. So I feel your pain. I had not considered yoga stretches!

I walked 5 miles again yesterday. Calories were good.  Did the small weight workout.  I need to add pushups and ab work, but don't feel I can add both right now, so I will add the ab work first since I'm doing weights for upper already.  Then later on I'll add the push ups.

I wasn't getting sore anymore from my 2-3 mile walks, but I can tell a difference since I've been walking 5 miles.  Sciatica a bit and more tired around 8:30 p..m.  LOL! 

I have 23 days 'til vacation.  I can do this.  I won't go overboard on vacation, either.  I need to keep it gong to a big degree on vacation, too.  Exercise won't be an issue on vacation - food, we'll see!

yes...pushups. you are going to do them on your knees?

Let me tell you...pushups will redefine your shape like no other! I am so grateful for working up my ability on push-ups because it has really built my shoulders up.

I have tried for years to do push ups on my toes and I just can't. I do them from the knees. I also do plank for abs. But most abs must be done standing. Much better.
