Well, yesterday was OK - not as exciting as I hoped.  I had a lot of pain from not sure what - my face was hurting and my teeth - I have a tooth that I think broke off a little on the back since and I think I was having bad sinus pressure.  Meeting lasted FOREVER and the room was so COLD I had a sore throat by the time it was over.  I did ride my bike 10 miles but wasn't that fun because - our state capitol town is just that - a town.  It is a little farming community about half way between the two biggest towns - Lexington and Louisville and while parts of it are kind of pretty it's not all that good for biking where I was.  The streets are short with lots of stop signs and lights, but I managed to ride around and I did find one long stretch but the wind was so strong that I had to pedal very heard going down a steep incline!  So it was kind of a bust.  I won't bike tonight as I have church and I need to let muscles rest a little.  Hope the pain doesn't return.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 05/29/2013:
Is it your tooth that hurts, or sinus? When I get sinus headaches it can feel like a toothache. Hate those! Hope you feel better soon.

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
Ah, that's the issue - not sure. I think sinus, but....Thanks for the well wishes!

skinnygrlwithin on 05/29/2013:
I hate long uncomfortable meetings!! They're the worst!! I hope you're feeling better!

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
Yes, on and on and on....

OhioRaven on 05/29/2013:
Probably wisdom teeth :v)

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
Oddly enough, I still have my wisdom teeth - had 6 year molars pulled and wisdom teeth came in and I'm using them. I think it is one of them, that may have cracked a little and is causing part of the problem, but may be sinus pressure for the other part.....

legcramps on 05/29/2013:
It's too bad yesterday was such a bust; I hope this doesn't deter you from trying to ride in other towns/cities in the future!

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
Thanks, for your comment. It won't. If I find myself in these places I'll explore. I STILL want to go to The Little Miami Trail in Ohio - but everytime I plan a trip it rains and I never have anyone to go with!

thenewMLE on 05/29/2013:
Sorry about the tooth and face pain. That's something that just can't be ignored and makes you feel terrible. Do you think they make the room uncomfortably cold on purpose? My office has been extremely cold for the past 3 months and my feet were painfully cold. I found out my Reynard's switched from my hands to my feet. Right now I am in fuzzy socks and they feel much better, but still cold, just not painful. I wish your ride had been more exciting. Enjoy church tonight and rest up for a good ride this weekend!! Hope you have a better day!

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
I keep a small space heater under my desk. I think the meeting room I was in was too cold on purpose. It was awful. Reynard's is painful. Darn, in the feet! My feet hurt all the time and I don't have it so I can't imagine Reynard's in the feet! Keep em warm and toasty anyway you can!

V on 05/29/2013:
ONG sorry about your tooth :( Hoping that you feel better today Holly <3

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
Thanks,V! I am starting to feel better. Hope you are having a good evening and having some fun this summer!!

Back to work today.  Today's plan is to catch up on emails at the office, head to the state capitol and the dept of insurance for training - should be interesting - I'll report back.  Food wise I will take my lunch and heat it and eat it on the way to Frankfort - health stuff.  I will take a protein bar for a snack - 240 calories.  They actually don't taste too bad - the peanut butter ones, at least.   I found them at Sams club.  They are called  Think Thin and they have seemed to stop me from snacking over the long weekend.  20 grams of protein.

More later.....

UPDATE:  Packed my cycling apparel and my bike.  If rain holds off I am going to ride around downtown Frankfort this afternoon after 5:00.  A change of scenery is just what I need.  I plan to ride around 10-15 miles but since I'm not COUNTING the numbers so much (wink) I'll play it by ear!

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 05/28/2013:
I hope you have an excellent and productive day!

grannyannie on 05/28/2013:

selina on 05/28/2013:
Sounds like a good/yummy protein bar...

OhioRaven on 05/28/2013:
Have a good trip.

thenewMLE on 05/28/2013:
Fantastic opportunity! I bet you ride further than expected just because of enjoying the different scenery! Enjoy your day and your ride!

hollybelle on 05/28/2013:
Very well could be. I am meeting with the Dept of Ins and Just Hope I am not too depressed to ride - LOL - just kidding!

skinnygrlwithin on 05/28/2013:
Which state do you live in? Not NY by any chance??? I work in the state capital. Those sound like very yummy bars! I need something that'll stop me from snacking.

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
I love in KY - State Capitol - Frankfort, KY - weird, because it is a little farming community for the most part - not even a big town much less city!

Mskitty on 05/28/2013:
More training is always good and so is a change of pace- I wish you well and hope the day is a beauty wherever you are, thanks for all the support lately.

hollybelle on 05/29/2013:
You are welcome. Just hope you are doing OK.

legcramps on 05/28/2013:
awesome plan; have a great day!

V on 05/28/2013:

Another Memorial Day Weekend picnic is history. We had a ton of people and a pretty good time was had by all.  The only damper to the day was the dogs!  Daughter brought hers and the neighbors new (3rd) dog isn't comfortable in her new surroundings yet and they barked a bit too much, but other than that it went OK.

I managed to eat a reasonable amount of food - nothing too crazy.  We had all kind of appetizers, BBQ pork sandwiches - small buns, corn on the cob, baked beans, slaw, mac & cheese,  deviled eggs, fresh fruit, choc chip cookies, banana pudding, banana split pie, and Elvis cake.

Today at 10 a.m. I am going to ride at least 18 miles on the Legacy Trail.  No hurry!  I am going to just ride for fun - no performance goals!

Rode 22 miles today - it felt so so good.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

V on 05/27/2013:
So happy to hear that the picnic went well! Have fun today on the trail! Riding solo today or do you have a buddy coming along?

hollybelle on 05/27/2013:
My friend, Kim, came with me. She rode 20 miles today - that is farther than she rode at the end of the season last year. She quit smoking this winter and I am so proud of her! I kept my word and rode nice and easy mostly and enjoyed it much more.

grannyannie on 05/27/2013:
Glad you had a nice picnic, even with the yapping dogs. Food sounds yummy. Have a nice bike ride.

hollybelle on 05/27/2013:
Thank you - I rode 22 mi today - we had beautiful weather.

OhioRaven on 05/27/2013:

Up and at 'em early today.  Took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill this morning - stopped to purchase corn on the cob for tomorrow and bought two beautiful Foxglove plants for $7.99 each!  I am going to put them on the side of the house that doesn't get much sun and has a sad look to it due to an aging old fashion lilac tree that is pretty only when in bloom in EARLY spring.  I will cut that lilac tree back severely and hope that it's looks improve next year.  Husband has been working in the backyard to cover up some of the beds that have been basically laying to ruin the last 5 years or so.  Surprisingly the back of the house doesn't look bad - mostly due to a Miss Kim Lilac (Ilike these MUCH better) that has actually grown up and looks good.  We need one more shrub back there and some monkey grasses and it will almost look like we care again!   Of course there is the small ilssue with the area where the dog houses are - the ones that the dogs don't actually use - LOL!  If we could get some plants and stuff growing there the yard would be almost done again with stuff that is basically dog-proof - almost!

Yesterday was a good day.  Worked in the yard and refurbished the grill - it needed new heat plates and a good cleaning - so I did that.    Ate OK - not great.

B:  Iced vanilla coffee and protein bar.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Love Foxgloves. Hope you can get your garden the way you like. Have a good weekend.

hollybelle on 05/25/2013:
Yes, I have wanted some for years, but was't sure I had the right spot for them. I hope they do well on the side of house where I am going to put them!

Supercheese on 05/25/2013:
aww id love to see your garden. Have a good one holly!

hollybelle on 05/25/2013:
I'll try to take some pics and post on FB. I don't really have a garden so much as I have planted blooming things around my house and yard in beds along the front, sides and back.

Umpqua on 05/25/2013:
Excited to hear about your work in the garden. I have an old fashioned lilac that I cut back severely a few years ago and it is finally blooming well this year. Took a few years to come back but it was worth it. Have a good one!

hollybelle on 05/25/2013:
The Old Fashion lilacs don't usually bloom at all for about 7 years and then it's slow - just a few blooms for a few years. I think this one is about 11 years old and it blooms big time. It has gotten too big and rangey. I am gonna cut it back to about 3 X 5 feet this year. The Miss Kim lilac is great. They have a wonderful habit but also much be cut back after blooms fade each year or they will get out of hand. The Miss Kim is about 5 years old. They bloom right away once they are big enough. The smell of both is heavenly, as you know.....I love that smell. You can see why the victorian ladies loved them in their gardens and all the first perfumes tried to mimic the smell!

OhioRaven on 05/25/2013:
Lots of distraction, no relaxin' for this kid :v)

V on 05/25/2013:
Happy Memorial weekend to you as well Holly <3 Sorry I can't comment on flowers, I am a tad bit clueless to say the least, Hahahaha ;)

hollybelle on 05/27/2013:
Well, that's OK anyway - as you are in an entirely different ZONE in FL and we couldn't grow the same things, anyway! I don't know that much about them - trial and error and what other people do. I don't have much in the backyard anymore since the tree fell on the house 4 years ago and I lost a shade garden around it and the dogs destroyed the rest of the stuff. But I finally have some ideas on what to put in that would not be hard to maintain and dog-resistant!

biscottibody59 on 05/25/2013:
Enjoy your weekend--have a safe one!

OK - eating healthier and exercise a bit more this week - got rained out last night on the bike, but had my back tube replaced and got about 7 mile in (better than nothing) before the downpour!  Can you say Cats  & Dogs - it was coming down like buckets!

Todays menus - trying to post food more!!  Somedays just can't

B:  Apple

L:  1/2 Grilled chicken breast, 1/2 C cooked beets, red grapes

D:  Having a church dinner tonight - that usually isn't all that healthy - so we'll see what it winds up being and I'll do best I can - may have time to get a 30 minute ride in afterwards

Heel has been painful last 2 days - still nursing it and doing exercises.

Oh, yeah - had my hair cut yesterday - told her I wanted a shorter version of same for the summer - Oh BOY!  I hardly have any hair left - It's especially too short in the back and I look like rather mannish!  It will grow, but good grief!  Doesn't make me feel good for the family get together - just my vanity, I know.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 05/23/2013:
It's pouring here today - glad you were able to get a ride in yesterday! I hate when they cut my hair too short, I hope yours grows quickly.

hollybelle on 05/25/2013:
Thanks! On the haircut - I can't tell you how stupid it makes me feel like I look ! Oh, well, it will grow - they say the difference in a bad haircut and a good haircut is - two weeks! I think probably more like 4 in this case - seriously!

grannyannie on 05/23/2013:
Glad you got in 7 miles anyway. Yea, raining while biking sucks!

I'm about to get a hair cut as well. Still deciding what I want. Don't want to regret it afterward as I have so many times.

hollybelle on 05/25/2013:
My hair dresser has some issues and I noticed she was a little "manic" that day - I have to remember to tone things down when I describe things - LOL! She really is a good hair cutter - it's just SO SO SO short!

V on 05/23/2013:
If i am not mistaken the same thing happened last summer when you had it cut..I totally think you rock out the short hair like Jamie Curtis!!! Have a good evening Holly <3

hollybelle on 05/23/2013:
Good memory! I think you are right. I meant shorter, but seriously this is radically short! It will grow, I know. Thank you, V - it's not a tragedy, and it does make sweating and washing hair easier. Hope your day was good!

I am sorry, again, to be missing from here.  Just so much going on.  I have done fairly well on food and exercise the last week.  I overate (ginger cookies) on the weekend but worked hard in the yard on Sat & Sun and walked 3 miles on Sunday.   Not enough to lose or gain....so holding my own.  Clothes still fitting a little better than at the end of winter!  Just on the edge of my max comfort range.....   :-(   That elusive 10 lbs feel so out of reach, although I know it really isn't!

I am making beets and corn for dinner tonight with some kind of meat - left over 90/10% burger or grilled chicken.

Having our family picnic on Sunday - Will's parents are coming this year.  So surprised because it is such a long drive for them.  But they are visiting their daughter and SIL in Louisville, too so that will cut down on the drive a little.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

it's good when it's not enough to lose or gain...maintenance is a good thing...i miss it...as i was maintaining really well until 2 months ago when i lessened my cardio.

Umpqua on 05/21/2013:
I'm happy to hear you've been putting so much time into your yard and gardens - I'm sure they look amazing! We have lots of work here to do at this house and will hopefully get going on it this weekend. And I definitely hear you on that last 10 pounds - that's what I'm looking at and I've been struggling with it. We will get there!

hollybelle on 05/23/2013:
They actually only look kept up a bit. I still can't have anything in the back yard due to big dog habitat! Those silly dogs lie in my hostas and mash them all to pieces, even! They love the cool ground in there - even though there is cool ground in other places without hostas! But that's for thinking it might look amazing! If I had about few thousand dollars to invest in building raised beds so dogs couldn't mess them up - I'd do it!

OhioRaven on 05/21/2013:
Hey, Holly. I'm in a show band. We do different themes.

hollybelle on 05/23/2013:
Oh, I remember that NOW! Fun, fun!

Hey there Holly! I missed ya! How exciting that you will have your first family gathering with R and her new Inlaws :) lots of love to you my friend <3

hollybelle on 05/23/2013:
Thanks V - I am happy that they are trying to be part of the family, too - especially since they live so far away! I love Memorial Day weekend. Love to you, too V!

Lots of yard work - AGAIN!  We were really behind on pruning the two big-ish maple street trees in front of our house.  The sidewalk was certainly passable but they really needed to be taken up to the next notch.  I took them as far as I could and then I had to call in the big gun = Mark.  He can get the sawing up high done. I love using the pole cutter.  It is so cool!   We should have taken before and after pictures!  We got so much done before it rained us out!

After those trees I pulled all the fruit off the patio peach before they got too big - hate that job.  I also noticed that I think the peach tree and the elm tree have a disease called "scale".  The magnolia had it a few years ago and I had to treat it twice so I guess I'll check into that and treat them, too.  It's expensive, but not as expensive as replacing them - especially the 40 ft elm!

Food - Not so good today.  I made ginger cookies with crystalized ginger and have eaten about 6 of them.  Had one egg one bisicuit and 2 pieces of bacon for breakfast, an egg and bacon sandwich on low cal double fiber wheat for lunch and don't know what will be for dinner.

Must do better on food.  and exercise.  My heel is killing me.  I talked with a lady who had the same heel pain and she told me some exercises that cured hers so I am doing them every night.  Hopefully the exercises will cure mine, too.  She said she went to two drs and had PT and NOTHING helped except these exercises.  Sure puts a damper on my exercise.  The pain is really awful.

Tomorrowif weather permits will do the back yard - got started on it last week, but needs a lot of work.  At least I am getting exercise working in the yard.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

selina on 05/18/2013:
Sorry to hear about the sore heel. Get well soon! Would it help if you used shoe inserts? My daughter uses Dr. Scholls inserts all the time due to painful feet. It helps her plenty....

hollybelle on 05/23/2013:
Yes, Use those, too - will try most anything at this point!

Finally posting again.  It has been a really really busy week.  Worked til 8:00 Wednesday night.  Thursday night was going to grill out with daughter and SIL but it rained so we went out to eat and then to Old Navy as daughter wanted to look around.  SIL wound up buying a pair of pants.  It was 10:00 by the time they left our house.  Days have been crazy.

We have to prune our street trees tonight and tomorrow - about 1/2 finished.  They had gotten a little out of hand.

I need to study for my exam I want to take soon.  There is no deadline, per se, but I want to take it soon so it is behind me and I can work on another certification plan that I would like to have for professional reasons.  Also - I am supposed to go to training at the Dept of Insurance the Tuesday after Memorial Day and be certified to give public addresses as assigned on Healthcare Reform.  I am hoping it will give me networking opportunities to transition into some kind of public education position with the state or other public entity.  Who knows....long shot because there is basically no funding and they are expecting us to do this on a volunteer basis, but it's an idea.

I have been exercising some and eating better than last week!   Just seem to be extra hungry.  I have a big week again next week and then we are having Mark's family over for the annual Memorial Day picnic at our house!  More later.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Got my ride in last night but didn't get to walk the dogs.  I rode 11.5 miles and was headed to ride the last 4 miles, but I hit a pothole and popped my rear tire.  Fortunately as I was walking home a friend picked me up and I chained my bike while she took me home and loaded my rack on the car and went to pick it up.  Will have to take to the bike shop to replace it.  Can ride my other bike meanwhile.

This makes about the 3rd tube I have had to replace in about 2 years for the same reason.  I am glad I wasn't out somewhere remote - oh, say 20 miles from home!  Would have just had to call someone to rescue me!

More later.

That was God's way of making sure you didn't go too far last night! Last week, I stopped in the street (yes, in the middle!)to pick up a book that had been dropped or left. I was excited because it was an I SPY book and love those! I have about 15 of them and I didn't have this one! So I put it on the grass so it would stop getting rolled over and I figured when I got back in an hour if it was still there, I would take it. Well, it was! On that same ride, we came back down through the abandoned country club to help my SIL and BIL put their bikes back on their rack and BIL found a glasses case with Oakley sunglasses on the ground in the parking lot. 2 miles later we get home and I have my book and BIL has his glasses and hubby has a FLAT! So the joke is I picked up a book, BIL picked up Oakleys and hubby picked up a nail!! He fixed his tire, but while he is out of town next week, he is putting he bike in for service. It sounds like something from a flea market! It squeaks and cracks something terrible. His chain looks rusted too. We keep the bikes in the house, so I would not think it would look so weathered. Anyway, take it easy and I'm glad you are back on the road!!! Oh, and stay out of those potholes!!

hollybelle on 05/17/2013:
How funny! It is odd that husband's bike squeaks after service. I can't imagine. Are you sure the rust on the chain is not just the color of grease? Probably it is not - but just asking. You guys have Treks, right? If you find out where the squeaks are coming from let me know! That is intriguing.

skinnygrlwithin on 05/15/2013:
Well I'm glad you made it home safe last night and weren't out somewhere remote! Great job on the bike ride though, even if you didn't get to go as far as you wanted!

Thanks. At least I got as far as I did.
