Good Morning, DD friends.  Last week is behind and MIL did pretty well with the intense radiation treatment.  She has begun having some side effects, but not too, too bad so far.  This week I have my professional association big annual event - Symposium on Tuesday.  Today I have three appointments and some last minute tasks for the Symposium, pick up a speaker at the airport and a kick off dinner tonight.  I am always relieved when this event is behind us.  

I am eating OK - not much exercise.  I must do better.  I am not giving up, though.   More later.  Have a good Monday, all!

Hang in there girl! I'm glad it hasn't been too too bad with MIL. That is such a harsh treatment but if it can knock out the cancer without knocking out her quality of life it can really be worth the temporary "bump in the road". Good luck with the Symposium and I'm sure it will all go well!

On my way to Cincinnati to visit with MIL and check on FIL.  Taking a day off work - husband must go in and needs a break.  Ate terrible yesterday = gave in to too many Dove Choc hearts!  I will do better today - no sweets!  I hope I can find some healthy food in or around the hospital.  I may spend the night.  Hope to post more later. 

If I don't get to post tomorrow - Happy Valentines Day to all my sweethearts on DDs!

Those Dove hearts are hard to resist - I had a bag of the dark chocolate ones for a contractor job fair that I put out on the table and I brought the left overs back to the office and have had one a day. Fortunately they are all gone now because I gave up chocolate again. Be careful in your travels!

Did OK over the weekend on food, not so much on exercise.  Only did housework and shopping - big mega trip to the grocery and parked far away so better than nothing.....but still lacking.

Had to skip breakfast this morning - accidentally and I def don't like that!  Had a nice lunch of salmon, rice (tiny bit), slaw and green beans - no bread.  One small caramel chocolate heart.

snack:  4cups of skinny pop popcorn, 4 large strawberris

Yesterday was spent cleaning house.  Whew!  I think my house was the dirtest house outside a hoarder's episode!  I made lots of headway.  Husband helped out by vaccuming which I really didn't expect due to the stressful week he has had.  I got everything else done, laundry caught up, too except steaming the polishing the wood floors.  I need to run to Sam's club today and will leave in just a little while.  Then come back and get that done.  My laundry load has been reduced dramatically since daughter moved out last month.  I probably don't have but about 3-4 loads a week instead of 7-8.  Yes, she generated that much laundry!  Unblieveable. 

I didn't do too badly on food yesterday, mostly I didn't have some of the healthy things I needed due to needing to go to grocery - but made do with what we had.  I ate a little frozen yogurt last night with some friends we met up with to say hello.....The only exercise yesterday was house work - but was on my feet all day and I climbed on ladder to do the dusting up high on blinds, ceiling fans and  cobwebs, etc.  Being on my feet so much aggravated the plantar fascitits so that's not a good thing.  It is supposed to be 55 degrees out today, but RAIN, so I doubt I'lll get a ride in - ET and weights, I guess.  Plus the floor cleaning, etc.  I have to count that as exercise.

Agree, housework can be a serious workout! I used to have plantar fasciitis. I stopped wearing shoes w/o arch support, and stopped going barefoot around the house for a long time, and it got better. No problem now.

Parallel Girl! I cleaned so I wouldn't look like a hoarder!!! hahaha! I know what you mean about the laundry too. When the oldest left to go to college it was a decrease, but when the youngest left (the oldest was still gone) it was DRAMATIC!! Now that oldest is home, she does her own laundry so I only have about 3 loads too. Take care of your foot and take time to soak it. With the rain, I only rode Friday night even though it LOOKED like rain Saturday and Sunday so I got a lot done. You will have plenty time to ride when the Spring gets here and by then we will have clean houses!!! have a great week!

Check out my post from last night.  Rode 12.5 miles.  Felt SO GOOD.  Hard to believe it was 60+ yesterday and today 35 and cloudy and windy!  Burrrr.

Did ok on food yesterday.  Not too much sugar.  Today so far ok - probably  a little higher calories that I'd like, but no junk.

yes, i think you had asked if i was moving out! it happened unexpectedly. i was waiting for an apt to become available, and it opened up earlier than i had thought it would. i am moving in March to a one-bedroom in queens. (40 minutes or so away). and closer to work, maybe instead of 40 minutes to work, 25-30. every bit counts. also, i think there will be less traffic going home since i will NOT have to take any parkways/highways

Just back from a 12.5 mi ride.  YAY!  it was fantastic.  First 6 miles were pretty fast and furious.  I stopped to see if my friend was home, but, alas, no.  And then headed out.  I rode behind a real exert cyclist for a little while and then caught up to him again.  I wish I could ride like that, except I probably had 15 years on him and he probably rides non-stop.  Not too bad for the second ride of the season.  The tune up on the bike was fantastic.  I could tell a diff. Tights and Jacket and gloves were just fine.  I need new padded gloves because the ones I TORE UP during the wreck fiasco last Aug are now totally unusable.  I rode the 12.5 in about an hour and I stopped for about 8 minutes total - one at friends house and once at a grocery store where it took 5 minutes to figure out that there was NO WHERE to chain my bike while I went in for an energy drink-LOL!  And there  were SO MANY LONG hills, so I think that's OK.  I love cycling!   Food was good all day - now if I can just do well the rest of the night.




Well, I'm finally back after losing my last entry.  I have had a much better week on food this week. Partly because husband has not been home the last two nights.  He has been in Cincinnati with his Mom and Dad.  MIL is hanging in there on the intense radiation treatments and we so hope that all this effort on her part will result in a good outlook for her future.

I haven't been able to ride bike since it has been either rainy or too cold, or I have had other obligations.  But I will get some exercise in for the rest of the week.  

Daughter and grand-dog stopped by or a few minutes last night after her class.  She seems to be doing OK in her new space and her students seem to have followed her over there.  She also has a few new students from the new neighborhood. If I can't ride tonight I will either do ET and weights or Zumba and weights.  I have been start stretching and abs in the morning - like I use to do so regularly!  It feels good.  

Today at lunch I want to get my car washed at lunch bc it has so much salt and stuff on the outside and that will let me get the inside cleaned this weekend.  My car gets so grimy in the winter.  Yuck!  Thre is a gas station car wash down the street from my office.  I still am looking for a new (use) car.  My car is almost 12 years old and I am emotionally attached to it.  Nissan Pathfinder so it's not really a car - an SUV.  I hate to have a car payment and have been saving diligently in order to have as low and short term a payment as possible. Sorry - not really DD relatd.I got off-topic. 

On another health issue, some of you may remember that I had been doing natural hormone replacement - well, it was going so well and then - the clinic closed for two months - not because of any medical malpractice, but apparently they had some financial misappropriations and they had to sort it all out.  They reopened and I had my blood work - which was overdue and I will have more hormone pellets installed (this is how they deliver some of the hormones) in two weeks.  Hoping  I will get more energy back like I had before they closed.....Yay!

Onward and upward for today!  Gonna drink lots of water and eat well.

My car is really old too and yep I am attached to it :) I too want to find a new used car without payments..One of my friend's brother goes to auctions and get really good cars so I am hoping that he can find a dependable cheap one for me, that's when I am ready for it..I am just not ready to give up my good ole Toyota..LOL Hope you get your pellets soon.. Did R move into her house yet? Anyhoo hope you have a great day :)

I hope your MIL gets some positive results from all the radiation to give her a longer quality life. Good thing you have your Zumba and your stretching to supplement the riding. I haven't developed any type of routine to replace the riding - it's like OK, it's raining, guess I can't ride!!! I have a ZUmba xbox thingy that I bought still in the plastic - maybe I need to break that thing out! I also should at least do my floor exercises like I did when I was walking. Maybe I need to put that on the schedule!!! I hope your hormone therapy will ramp up the energy for you. That must have been a concern to just stop it for 2 months. RYC, the oyster salad was wonderful! We bought fresh oysters in a quart already shucked but in their liquid and we use Zatarain's "Wonderful Fish Fry" as the dredge. It is a corn meal based seasoned box mix. THey were fried to crispy perfection, lightly salted and then topped the mixed greens salad with small pieces of brie cheese, glazed pecans, and a balsamic reduction. It's definitely one of my favs! GREAT RIDE!! Doesn't it feel wonderful to get out there again?? I love when I can try to keep up with some of these young guys too. I've never used gloves, but the girls bought me a jacket that has slits in the bottom of the sleeves to stick your thumbs in and it acts like a partial glove covering my palms and I liked that feeling. It's a shame your riding buddy wasn't home, but at least you could go at your own pace and not feel like you had to stay back. Have a great weekend and I hope you get a few more rides in and that the snow doesn't get to you!!!

I'm still here.  Been reading some diaries but haven't had much to say, myself.   Wedding plans marching along.  Had shower in groom hometown last weekend.  I went down and stayed the night - it was a 4+ hour drive.  Rode with daughter and fiance.  It was a nice enough time.  

Food has been better, STILL not where I need to be.  Exercise has been a little bit better.  I have not only excuses, but now down right obstacles - plantar fascitis of right foot and a pretty severely pulled neck mucle on the left side into the left shoulder due to a fall I took on ice (picture whiplash) while walking in the park with husband, daughter and dogs yesterday!  On top of that I lost my magnatized sunglasses.  Had just replaced them for $40 as I lost them before.  I think I better go with RX sunglasses or get those darn clip on's!  LOL!  But I will walk again today and I got lots of exercise yesterday due to shovelig the entire driveway and walks by myself.  Husband and daughter were off doing his father-daughter dance lesson for the wedding.  They are going to dance to Natalie Cole's "Unforgetable".  How sweet will that be?

MIL just completed 5 more regular radiation treatments and this week and next will have two days Inpatient for brachytherapy radiation which I previous described on one of my last posts - it will be rough, but has a fairly good change of getting her to a better place for a longer life, frankly.  Big obstacle is eating - she has lost so much weight.  She has no appetite.  They gave her some meds for appetite a couple of weeks ago and it helped for about 5 days, but she has lost more, again.  Bless her heart.  She is so depressed, as I think most of would be.  So hard to go through all this.  We just pray it will be worth it, but the alternative is unimaginable.

Daughter re-starts her fitness business full-force in new space Monday.  She has been continuing her personal training, but, no group classes.  I hope it works out well for her.  Fingers crossed!

Almost forgot to mention - I got a 8 miles bike ride in Monday this week -on the old bike.  It rained and was getting dark so I had to come in.  I had on SHORT sleeves and was just as comfortable as can be - then we got 7 degree weather 3 day later after a monsoon and then we got about 4-5 inches of snow!  Gotta love KY!  I took my "new" bike in to the LBS (Local Bike Shop) for a tune up and new tube.  I will be ready for Spring!

We use zennioptical.com to buy all of our daughters glasses, including tinted rx sunglasses. Her prescription changes every 6 months and we usually order her 7 or 8 new pairs each time. You can get glasses for as cheap as $6 or $7 each and shipping is only like $5 for your whole order. Adding the sunglass tinting is a few dollars more and you can choose tint colors and amount of tinting. She's 9 years old and hard on the glasses. It seems like she's down to only 2 or 3 pair by the end of each 6 months. (not from them being bad quality, but from her losing them or having some mishap in gym class) We've been ordering them for the past 3 or so years and haven't had any issue with them yet, except for my own fault in ordering the wrong prescription once (forgot the negative sign in front of the prescription numbers). If you're not too picky on the frame style, you could probably get 3 pairs of rx sunglasses for around $40 shipped.

You have been super busy, I think you are doing great considering all your challenges! I hope that your MIL's treatments improve her quality of life, I can't imagine how difficult that is.

I had to LOL at your suggestion of getting the clip-on sunglasses. My Dad is a huge fan of those giant visorlike sunglasses that you put on OVER your regular prescription eyeglasses. They make him look like a complete dork (which we tell him) and he just doesn't care ;)

I've been to Disney several times, we took the boys 2.5 years ago. Because John works for ESPN (a Disney company) we get into all the parks free and get discounts on everything. So there's a huge incentive to go! The boys are super excited this time around and they'll be able to go on so many more rides than last time - plus no diapers this time haha. The Cold Stop Tea was V's suggestion - I was able to get it at my local health food store. I will definitely be keeping it in the house, it's very nice and tasty too. Bija is the company that makes it.

Great job getting that riding in!

I know a little about watching someone go through treatments and the depression that sets in because of it. It's very difficult, and most times there's not a thing you can do to make it easier for that person. You just have to let them fight their own demons, and hope they come out on the other side without too much bruising, knowing that you'll be there for support the whole way through.

Good luck to MIL; I hope that soon she will get that appetite back and stop losing weight.

Girl, you are really going through it. I hope you recover from the fall quickly. Ice and dogs are a bad combination!! I'm glad you got a little taste of a good ride in before the weather turned. I have been riding sleeveless for the last three weeks and only pulled out the jacket twice. Does the plantar facsiatis flare up when you ride? I'm glad you are enjoying some of the wedding festivities. It must be fun to be the mother of the bride and instead of entertaining, be entertained! Do you know his family well? I have done - not terrible this week.  Better, but still not where I need to be.  Exercise - well, nothing since last Saturday.  Will do some ET this weekend.  So tired after  I come home from work.  Too many excuses! 

I am having a really hard time getting serious about my health - very emotional due to mother in law's recent MRi results - chemo and radiation last 5.5 weeks has not done it's job.  Cannot have the "seed" radiation treatment due to this outcome.  It's not the end of treatment, however, they will try to do a more aggresive treatment using radiation delivered thru hollow needles inserted directly into the tumor.   This is done while the patient is under ontinued prayer appreciated - for mother in law and father in law and husband. 

I plan to have lunch with daughter and her future mother and sister in law on Saturday.  We are going to visit the chapel where the wedding will be held and do a little last minute planning.  I am looking forward to it.  We have started to receive "early bird" RSVPs already - that's a good thing.  First ones came yesterday - 3 - so far.

Planning a health lunch of bean soup and vegetables today - more later......

Prayers coming your way Holly! Illness is not only physically draining because of all the care required, but it is VERY emotionally draining. I hope the other treatment works for your MIL quickly. Such an emotional dilemma with the excitement of the wedding. I hope y'all have a nice time checking out the chapel and please enjoy the moment! You can and will return to your health too, it's just that you are in that wonderful role of double care - those older and those younger than yourself! Keep a positive attitude and try to focus on the fun and special times for your daughter!

You have to make yourself and your health a priority--I've been where you are and it's certainly a challenge! When all is said and done, if you don't make yourself number one above all else, you'll break down and will be confronted with having to do it eventually.

Did OK on food last night.  I fixed liver and onions - as I said, it's a favorite of ours.  I ate one whole piece and I was stuffed - had some mashed potatoes - no butter, skim milk a 1/4 C mayo and they were delicious.  Husband ate 3 pieces of liver, I'd say he has a very high iron level in his blood this morning LOL.  He lost 20 pounds last year.  

I am experimenting with hash browns - or really - "fried" potatoes in the oven.  I pressure cooked his first and then seasoned then and I am trying to brown them in the oven - I'll let you know how they turn out.  Lots to do today and it's supposed to rain everyday between now and Wed!  It is supposed to be 67 degrees though!  I don't know if I will be able to get a ride in, but will do the ET,I think!  Need to get on the inversion table, too,  Planning to double check and mail the wedding invitations today - woo-hoo!

Thanks for commenting on my post! I'm glad you're back, as well. You've lost almost 14 lbs, you're nearly half-way to your goal (what an achievement!) I'm experimenting with various foods and preparation methods as well. It was warm and sunny here yesterday, I took my dogs for a LONG walk! I'm trying so hard to keep moving and commit to exercising (so far, so good)! Keep up the good work!

I haven't fixed hashbrowns in a long time. I've never tried making them in the oven before...Love to have your receipe! :O)

Oh, wow, it's invitation time already? The time is just flying!, if it doesn't rain you should try to squeeze in a ride. I got a ride in this morning with 75 degrees but it has been threatening to rain and I think we are under a flash flood warning. Have a happy Sunday!

I'm excited for you with the wedding!! It sounds like a beautiful intimate occasion. New Orleans' style weddings are a little different. We do not have sit down dinners (some of the Jewish families do, but we are Catholic). It is a 3 hour reception with a live band and plenty of dancing. Fancy foods are served by waiter on trays such as artichoke balls, mini muffalattas, crab or shrimp canapes and then there are tables of elaborate fruit and cheese displays, a meat carving station, jambalaya and gumbo station and sometimes even a sushi chef on call. It is open bar with frozen drink options too. We are at about 350 guests right now. One of the problems is when I was young, my parents had a group of 10 families that were their best friends. We called the parents aunts and uncles and all the kids were considered cousins. Well, most of them had 5 or 6 children except for my family it was just me and my brother. We camped together and had several parties every year. As the group got older (the parents are now in their 80's and we are in our 50's and 60's) the group expanded from 60 to an extra 40 for spouses to 100 and now we all have children so on the average of 3 children we have added another 120 bringing the "group" to 220! And yes, some of our children are now having children! My daughter was president of her sorority so she has a lot of friends there (I told her not to send out save the dates yet because by next year she won't feel obligated to invite all that she has listed. He is in law school and has had life long friends that have gone from grammar school all the way to law school with him. She had a circle of 10 friends that have been through ALL school since they were 2 and that doesn't count their dates. The engagement party was 85 people!! I wish we could pare it down, but I don't think that can happen! I'm excited and nervous all the same time. The engagement party was beautiful and I feel like a major responsibility is over, but those 4 hours did fly by and the wedding is only 3 hours with many more people to see and she wants to dance - a lot!! We don't have colors or dresses yet. If you have any advice, I would be open to anything as she is the first of my friends to have a child getting married. I was a professional photographer pre-Katrina and I have shot weddings most of my life, but customs are changing. Keep in touch and yes, her wedding is in March also - the 29th of next year!
