UPDATE: Bike Ride this morning. Rode 38.5 miles! Yay! Rested for 20 minutes twice in order to conserve energy since I haven't eaten for performance this week. I ould really tell it. I was sluggish at times and energy came in spurts. I did pretty well on speed and even with the sluggishness I can tell that I am riding better as far as gearing effeciently and cornering and confidence. It is a beautiful day with blue skies, puffy clouds and 88 degrees with a nice breeze - low-ish humidity. I took a picture of some of the scenery with a barn - it wasn't even the prettiest spot - I'll try to post it later to show you what KY looks like in Summertime!

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 07/29/2012:
Well done on the bike ride! It does get easier to stand for longer as you build up your legs, especially your quads. The spin bikes here have the foot holders. Don't know if you can do the clip in shoes. My SIL in Michigan has those. She spins 4 or 5 times a week. I should look into getting foot holders for my bike.

V on 07/29/2012:
Way to go Holly!! I am so proud of you!

AC is all installed and the problem with the first floor being too cold is solved - it was a problem with a wire.....Ah, comfort!

Ride last night got cut short due to storm - 10 miles.  I ran out of time this morning talking with daughter about wedding stuff and didn't ride to my friend's house. I was glad because she wanted to go to the Farmer's Market downtown and I wouldn't have liked to be sweaty for the visit to the market.  We went and I bought squash and corn.  My friend bough a bunch of stuff and then we went to the food coop - my friend's first visit there.  She liked it.

Came home and I've been making gr turkey vegetable soup and shucking corn and cleaning out the refrigerator.

I watched the neighbors dog and cat all last week free and that gave me an idea - I advertised on the neighborhood FB page as willing to pet sit....got my first customer today - it's just for two days next week Fri & Sat but I'm looking forward to it.  It's with a Goldendoodle that weighs about 120!  I think I priced my service too cheap because the lady said "oh, really wow, that's cheap" when I told her.  I asked for $12 a day.  It's not much, but it's going out to eat money kind of....we'll see how it goes - I'll have to check out the pricing on other pet sitters in this area......

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

V on 07/28/2012:
Good luck on your latest venture with dog sitting :) You should talk to Loveray as far as fees for your services. Although she actually "sits" at the home of the pets, I am sure she can give you a ballpark on what to charge.. Hope the rest of your day went well :)

The HVAC didn't get completed yesterday, but they will for sure finish up today.  We had to sleep downstairs again on the couches.  It was actually TOO cool down there. Mark spoke with the guys this morning about that and hopefully it will all get tweaked to be accurate and completed tonight.

I worked past 5:00 yesterday and all my good intentions to ride the bike last night fell to the wayside!  I didn't do the ET, lift weights or anything.  I haven't done the weights as often this week and I can really tell a difference.  Things will be back to normal at our house soon.  I have a bike ride planned tonight with friend and I have a ride to friends house for breakfast tomorrow, and a walk and ride after that.  So exercise is on the up swing for me.  I am thinking of breaking out that second pair of bibs I bought and wearing them.  I have been wearing and washing the one pair "saving" the new ones for a really long ride, but I probably need to use them.  It's time to start thinking about purchasing winter cycling apparel.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

AH air conditioning problems. Been there, done that. Happy to say that my future home will always have central air because after living in a house without it for 15 years, i can't do it no more. Have a great weekend!

grannyannie on 07/27/2012:
I can feel a difference when I go for a while w/o using weights. Doesn't seem to take long before it feels like I'm starting from scratch again. Good job on the all the rides. You're getting quite serious about this with getting winter riding gear! I still haven't bought any biking shorts and really need to, although I've toughened up with all the spinning.

grannyannie on 07/27/2012:
Thanks! I've got a lot of practice standing in two different positions on the spin bike - running stance, and hill climbing. I also stand up on my regular bike to give my bum a rest! Just hope it doesn't rain - I'd never take my bike on that hill when it's wet.

thenewMLE on 07/27/2012:
I'm glad you are close to having AC back!! Too cold is better than too hot any day!! You rides sound fun for after work and breakfast. I like a purposeful ride, especially when their is food at the end of it! I don't think I will need winter riding gear since I started in February and didn't have a problem. I was just wearing T-shirts then, and I went to dry fit stuff when it got hot. I guess if it really gets cold I could wear a wind breaker. Have a great weekend!!

V on 07/27/2012:
I am sure that cycling in the winter would be super fun and a little more comfy temp wise :) Have a wonderful weekend <3

Well, Day 2 of HVAC install.  They did a really good job on neatness and and it is COOL in my house - set the thermostat on 72 and it got down to 70 on the first floor - even with the upstairs being 96 degrees!  Can't wait to see what it gets to tonight and tomorrow with the upstairs AC working!

Went to friend's B day dinner last night in a little town about 40 minutes away.  I didn't care for the food selection eand wound up having pizza - ate 3 slices - thin crust.  It was good, but not what I wanted.

Tonight I will ride bike and see what else I can get into.

More later....

I bought mine at safeway but now that I was looking up the info for you, I found that amazon.com sells it MUCH CHEAPER. At safeway, I paid more than $7 per kit.

AC installers coming at 8:30 this morning - Yay!  It's not been too bad in the house, really, but I'll be happy to have AC back.

I went with friend to look at road bikes to purchase.  She is very nervous about buying one.  I was too - afraid of making a mistake.   Even wondered about my decision for about the first 75 miles I put on the new bike, but eventually I began t feel like it was wonderful!

When I got home from bike shopping I helped husband dig up a big bush (about 12 years old) from the side of the house where they will install the new AC units - it was quite a job to say the least!

grannyannie on 07/25/2012:
Yes, for AC! Hope you find the bike best suited for you. Mine is a hybrid.

Umpqua on 07/25/2012:
Great news on getting your AC installed! And bush digging is a major job, sounds like you got some great exercise in.

Kati on 07/25/2012:
Ahh! I wanted to write to you and I accidentally wrote on Umpqua's blog this: Tell your daughter to have honeymoon here in Portugal ;-) I had this soooo in mind that I missed the target :)

Buying sport equipment is tricky! I feel the same about a wrist watch, I wanted to buy one that measures cardio work and kcals burnt but.. I'm sooo unable to find the one I'd LOVE. I haven't met my passion piece yet. And then buying a pair of workout shoes, that's also a very complicated and needs long-term dedication, meditation... etc.! :D

V on 07/25/2012:
Good Morning! I am sure you are looking forward to a cooler house :)

thenewMLE on 07/25/2012:
I hope you have been able to stay comfortable without the AC. That's one of those luxuries you don't really appreciate until it goes out! I hate digging up bushes - they always seem to mock me and win! I hope you had fun at the bike shop - did it make you want to buy anything? Have a great day!!!

grannyannie on 07/25/2012:
Oh, right. Half reading. I thought you had a new bike. Doh. As for indoor riding, spin biking is intense and would be impossible to replicate outdoors. Standing, sitting, running, jumps, hills, flat, high resistance, fast, etc. I enjoy doing it outdoors but the weather does not cooperate often enough.

sweetpea1977 on 07/25/2012:
Yay!!!

I wanna dig up some ugly old bushes in my yard, but have to get HOA approval first. Annoying, but I want them gone so I am willing to do it. Hubby, on the other hand, does not. Doesnt he know that happy wife = happy life? :-)

Enjoy the cool air!

Umpqua on 07/25/2012:
RE your plants, I love Crepe Myrtle, so pretty! We can't grow it where I live, although I think some people have minor success in the southern part of the state. I think it may need to be covered in winter, etc so you don't see a lot of it around here. I looked up the Chokeberry and it's really pretty - looks like it can be grown in my zone too!

Rode 12 miles with my friend last night - very late due to heat and humidity and the AC guy coming later than expected.  We made the arrangements for them to install tomorrow and Thursday so hopefully we will be cool again Thurs night.  Stayed here last night instead of going to Mom's house to sleep.  Didn't sleep well.  May go to Mom's tonight.  I could have ridden more - Friend wants to commute to work and back on Thurs - the only day she doesn't have to go somewhere after work.  She wanted to make sure she could do it.  So we rode the route to her office building and back.  It turned out to be 12 miles.  She is lucky she can clean up when she gets there and doesn't have to dress up for work, So it should work for her.  If she rides from her house it'll add about 2 more miles on to the ride one way so that would be about 16 miles total and that's about her max right now - but it would be broken up into two 8 mi rides so easy to do.

Lots to do at work today - going to try and stay cool while getting ready - cool shower, here I come.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Well done on the biking. That'll be a relief when your AC is working again. Still 100+ there? That's fantastic that your friend is going to ride to work. I used to do that in TN but I was less than 1 mile. I did it just to save time.

V on 07/24/2012:
I am so happy to hear that your AC is working again :) Have a good one Holly!

supercheese on 07/24/2012:
8 miles total sounds like a total goal for me! I used to think that biking was easier than running but now I think that biking is way more harder for me!

liza36 on 07/24/2012:
That's nice your friend can commute on bike. Hope by now you are staying cool.

moogy on 07/24/2012:
Sounds like your friend really has got into the riding. I bet you are wishing away the days until you can be cool again, I feel for you Holly:( It makes for miserable living when it is so hot! Roll on Thursday:) Yes, you get the 'sleeker' I was talking about, can't really explain it but it feels different! Clever woman:)

What a weekend - our AC went out Saturday afternoon - this time on both floors of the house.  I didn't get a work out or bike ride in because I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to cool down afterwards.  We are making arrangements today to replace the entire heating and cooling systems as soon as possible.

More later......

grannyannie on 07/23/2012:
OMG, Holly! That sounds seriously expensive. Sorry!

thenewMLE on 07/23/2012:
Oh, goodness. That's an expensive problem... But it's also a necessity. When we had to replace our whole house heating and cooling 4 years ago, it was expensive, but it has saved us so much money monthly because of all the energy efficient improvements. RYC, she didn't get her ring yet, but she has found another venue that she would like to visit. I haven't read diaries since Thursday, but was your daughter surprised? At lunch I will try and go back and read. This weekend was just a wash out with the weather and plans.

thenewMLE on 07/23/2012:
Congrats!! I read back through and found the post about your daughter's official engagement and I checked out the pictures!! She is beautiful! I wish them the best of luck and I am happy that you are getting a son!!

sweetpea1977 on 07/23/2012:
Oh no, that really sucks. :( I hope the AC is up and running ASAP!!

Umpqua on 07/23/2012:
Wow, sorry you have to replace your whole heating and cooling system - not fun. I don't blame you for not wanting to get overheated, ugh. Do you have a window unit for your bedroom at night at least? I hope you get it sorted out quickly!

45 minutes on the ET and 15 minutes of weights and 10 minutes of good stretches. Then Hanging on the inversion table for about 5 minutes. It rained again!

Today is starting out pretty cool high only 88 after rain the last three days in the afternoons. But it's going back up to 95 from tomorrow on for the rest of the week.

Supposed to have late breakfast with a friend.  I'll get exercise in sometime today - maybe bike ride, maybe ET again.  Depends.

What a HOT summer everyone is having (except us)! Good job on the workouts. What's an inversion table? I've used inversion boots before but hung upside down from a doorway.

V on 07/21/2012:
Great job with the workout Holly! It is pretty hot here already, but at least no rain today..It is expected to arrive for my days off, just my luck.LOL Have a good day :)

Just read some of your recent posts & I agree about the weight loss drugs. I haven't gone that route but whenever a new one comes out I must admit that I think about it but don't do anything. Your workouts sound good!

selina on 07/23/2012:
Hi Holly, I was thinking about what you commented in my entry about gun. I believe that definitely there are ways of preventing a tragedy like the one in aurora with more gun control laws. A sports hunting riffle or a hand gun would not kill so many in such a short time. The machine guns that the guy in Colorado used was not a sports riffle or a simple gun. What he used was a machine gun to kill as many people in as short time as possible and he used them in a very effective way. Anyone in the movie theater with a legal concealed weapon who tried to fight him back would simply make things worse - more people would be dead in the cross fire. Moreover, the guy had a full body armor, just like a swat team member: no easy target to take down. The only thing that stopped him from killing more people was that his machine gun jammed on him and he had to quit. The worst part of the whole story for me was to hear that he purchased those weapons legally. That kind of weapon should not have a place in a civil society - I can't imagine anyone using it for good, they are in high demand by drug dealers and gangs. I believe in ownership of sports riffles for the people who like to hunt dear or whatever wild live they want to kill but machine guns do not have a place in civil society. We as a society should have done more to protect ourselves from crazy people like this one but the gun industry in this country is too powerful for us to do move forward away from this pit. The whole thing just makes us Americans look so bad, crazy and stupid.

selina on 07/23/2012:
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so preachy... I just am fed up with this whole nonsense of second amendment crap!
