Another good food day yesterday and so far today!  I walked 2 miles yesterday and my planned 5 miles this morning with husband.  

Made reservations for Ft. Walton Beach condo 10/22-29 for my birthday.  Hope all goes as planned.  Anyone ever visited Ft. Walton?  It's a complex called Pelican Isle where we are staying.  Just a get away because we haven't gone anywhere in so long.  We'd like to go out West in the Spring.  Maybe before the bears come out of hibernation. 

Anyway - probably going to have a couple of pieces of pizza for dinner - pepperoni. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Had kind of an '"off" day yesterday.  Due to family member issues I was getting kind of "down".  But thanks to some contemplation and reading and remembering God's promises I am feeling better today.  Some days the enemy says:  "You aren't strong enough to stand this storm"!  I start to believe it....just gotta remember to tell him right back "What are you talking about?  I AM the storm, you better vacate the premises"! 

Didn't walk on Tuesday or Wednesday, but walked 1.5 mile yesterday and 2 miles this morning. Planning to walk 5 miles on Saturday and 5 miles on Sunday, again.  

Food was good - better this week than last week.

I agree but for the grace of God we weather the storms... Do not give your power away then you really loose. Congrats on the walks and have a great weekend.

Busy day yesterday so didn't post.  I didn't walk yesterday, but cleaned house and was active.  Went to church yesterday.  I did really well on food, but probably didn't eat enough, just wasn't hungry.  I will post more later, going to catch up on everyone's diaries.

Yesterday i actually lost my appetite too for a little while - due to aggrivation. hardly ever happens & proves i actually was bothered.

LOL...

Sometimes busy is good when it gets your mind off yourself.

Taking a break from walking in order to do some physical work outside.  Shaped up the flowers on deck that I woefully neglected in the last part of August - just cut most of it out - LOL.  Then took the blower and blew off deck and patio and siding - so many cobwebs and spiders!  I must get something to combat those darn bugs!  I will pull weeds and clean up out front this afternoon.

I have professional association meeting at 11:00-1:00 today and also meeting with attorney with husband (no, we are not getting a divorce - we are updating our wills and a couple of other legal documents-LOL) at 5:00.  I will attend the Bd Meetings of the Pro Assoc on Fridays monthly as well.  That may be my most promising source of future part time or temporary employment.  Although Ohio Raven suggested I look for jobs which are physical in nature so that I can get my exercise in and get paid - which I think is a great idea!

More later.......Thanks again for your comments - we still have a great group of members here and I can't tell you how much it means to be able to come back and see familiar members still here and going after their goals and supporting each other!  I miss former members, but know they are doing well and may be back to impart their wisdom again someday. 

UPDATE:  I did really well on food today.  I had 2 LF WW waffles with honey for breakfast.  A ceasar salad with a little dressing and grilled chicken breast for lunch and snow crab legs (Big splurge) for dinner, with a small salad with ranch dressing and roasted brussell sprouts for dinner.  I resisted Caramel Apple Pie at lunch and cookies at attorney's office and milkshake when I stopped to get a diet coke today!

I have tried golf and am really no good at it. It moves much too slow and takes much too long to play. 9 holes is not too bad, but don't like it well enough to be serious about it. :-)

Thanks everyone for the supportive comments on my posts from this weekend!  I am feeling more positive this week, but retirement still feels strange.  Not like I imaged, really.  But only the beginning of the second full week.  I d!o love walking in the mornings, now that it's not so miserably hot and my legs don't feel so much like LEAD!  My goal this week Mon-Fri is to walk 2 or more miles at least 4 days and go for another 5 on Sat & Sun.  I also hope to sneak in a couple of SHORT bike rides (short as in 5-8 miles).  Consistency is my real goal.  Not competitiveness or increase, etc. 

If I can keep eating "reasonable" (meaning no desserts) this week it will be a big improvement. Thinking about starting to do much better on food choices.  I have my professional association meeting tomorrow and they ALWAYS have dessert, but it's often something I don't have a hard time resisting.  I have lots of left overs in he frig and am going to make some ground beef vegetable soup this afternoon.  Good way to get vegetables and easy meal  -  Of course, I will have to make cornbread.  I have to use up some left-over buttermilk I used to make the Labor Day picnic dessert!

Good plan for your week. I have often gotten rid of things that I knew if I kept would force me to make something that could hurt me staying on track. I rather loose a few dollars then gain a few pounds. I have so many trigger foods that I have eliminated because the more I am on this journey the better I get to know myself. I might fool most of the people most of the time but no way can I fool myself in believing its ok I will just have it today.... lol That is the biggest lie I have tried to make myself believe. Wishing you a great day and a great week with your plan exercise. Enjoy your retirement wake up saying how wonderful it is.

My trigger foods are anything with sugar! I just can't keep them around. Right now there isn't much in the house to temp me, but I have played that "I'll only eat one a day" or "I'll just eat this today and give the rest away" game! No more! I do allow myself some desserts or else I will feel deprived and binge. Just have to be careful it's not something that stays around for days!

Hollybelle, I retired in March of this year, one month before my 72nd Birthday, and I have to say, I didn't plan well enough as far as keeping socially busy, and there are times I get so lonely. You're so wise to keep active in attending committee meetings etc. You seem to be able to plan well also on how to use leftovers. Living alone, I ALWAYS have leftovers. This weight loss business is a rough road to travel, isn't it? And you're doing so well on it. Have a great day!

Most of my friends still work, so, I need to reconnect with some who don't again. It's kind of weird. My husband is still working - he's 4 years younger. I am 62. I want to take time off and look for a part-time job eventually. Something only 2 days a week - maybe 3 days occasionally, etc. I have had the most success with an eating and exercise plan when I concentrate on what it gives me (health, energy, etc.) rather than on what it takes away (not eating everything and anything I like) I try to focus on what I gain by losing weight! Sometimes I'm better at that than others LOL! You sound very motivated, just concentrate on what you gain when you make better choices. I hope that helps!

I am in full agreement that soups can be so healthy and filling as well as nutritionally a good choice. My sister, really thin lady more than me!!! and without as much exercise but more in her daily commute for sure, eats a TON of soups with her hubby. I think he cooks them! VEGETABLE SOUPS. sometimes chicken too.

Delivering mail - walking - hmmmmm.......gives me ideas - part-time job with lots of walking. New outlook - why didn't I think of that. I was focusing on my experience - not my personal goals and a job that would fit into that! Good idea! Cornbread....giving up? Nah! Just want to not eat so much when I eat it. Yesterday successful - only one wedge from 8-10" skillet of cornbread and I put it in my soup - no butter or jam! Yep - I live sweets on my cornbread sometimes!

Ribs were Ok - cheesecake was OK.  The ribs were NOT baby back ones.  They were more like just regular back ribs - I was very disappointed because I bought TWO packages of them and froze one.  There are 3 racks in each package.  I may thaw out the others and take them back to Sam's Club.  Hardly worth the effort.  The cheese cake was good, but I could not find my regular recipe and made another and it was not sweet enough and slightly overdone.  So all in all not a very great dinner.  I am a good cook, so this is upsetting to me, though daughter and SIL didn't seem to notice - LOL!  Anyway sent leftovers home with them.  Was very tired today - walked 4 miles - not very fast - walked 4 in about the same time walked 5 yesterday!  But I walked.  That's the main thing.  I took an hour nap and am getting ready to keep granddaughter for the day in about half an hour.  Gonna jump in the shower and get cleaned up and think about what to do this week.  I have a professional association meeting on Tuesday.  I am going to stay on that board for one more year.  I have served 10 + years so that's enough. 

Update - walked another mile to the playground with baby girl - pulled her in the wagon.  So that makes 5 miles today, too!  Yay!

We are sometimes overcritical about our own cooking. Everything is better when somebody cooks for us and far greater appreciated. I am sure it was wonderful. Naps I have them every day I don't think they are a negative to the contrary they are positive. It has been proven that a nap is healthy. Have a great evening.

Great exercise! I had a HUGE walking day Saturday - still recovering from it! And actually, my legs are good - just a left ankle! Sorry to write about me - but i gotta say, I am so happy with my progress and ability to do more! Really looking forward to seeing what I can do by Summer!!

I am not yet up to 5mi per day - that's really amazing. Make sure you give your body rest / stretching if you are sore!

I am glad you still have things on the go - activities which will make you happy or feel like you are making a difference and a commitment for this year.

Yay!  I walked 5 miles this morning with husband!  New shoes aren't perfect, but they are better than the ones I had and I guess I am getting in better condition throughout this week!  Ribs tonight - so it's a good thing I walked extra.  Going to go for 5 miles again tomorrow, too.

Walked 2 miles today - this is the first day it has not been a real struggle.  I thought about walking one more mile.  I could have done it.  But it began raining AND I didn't want to push my luck anyway.  I think the stretching did me good!  I did stretching this morning and will do more tonight.

Went to Sam's Club to get ribs for son in laws birthday dinner.  His birthday isn't until later this month, but we're doing his dinner tomorrow night.  He loves ribs and I make pretty good ones.  I am also making cheese cake!  I will probably also make a salad and one other side. It won't be a healthy day tomorrow, but that's OK - I've got to live a little.  My little Boo (granddaughter) will be here, too.  She's the best!

More tomorrow - have a good one, all!

Thanks for your comments on yesterday's post.  I did OK on food yesterday - not really healthy stuff, but not too unhealthy either and calories were OK. I walked 3 miles. I know from past experience I will work my way into good habits - not cold turkey overnight.  I can do it!  Today I am going to skip walking - just for today - and do a weight workout and yoga.  I already did yoga.  My hip and shins need a small break and I expect to be walking again tomorrow.  I am cooking BBQ ribs for son in law's birthday on Saturday so I will do best I can on Saturday and enjoy the food, but not be crazy if it's not a great food day.    I will make sure exercise helps balance that day!  Got a lot of laundry caught up yesterday - not real exciting - but it's a start.  Going to continue cleaning upstairs today.  Husband requested Sloppy Joes for dinner - of all things - I made a homemade version with all natural or organic ingredients.  I will eat a very small portion and serve with big salad with homemade dressing.  Breakfast was a LF wheat waffle with blackberry spread & iced vanilla coffee.  Lunch will be beets and tuna salad and tomato.

I also do not go cold turkey. It can take a LONG time to regain all the habits required to lose weight and/or make healthier decisions. A three mile walk is excellent!

It's ok not to walk everyday, especially if you are sore. Ease into it.

Yes....laundry is quite the chore haha. I am so glad I did mine on Monday on my day off...i shouldn't have as much this weekend on Sunday lol. Maybe i'll do it Saturday night.

Yes, you can make healthy sloppy joes...even with ground turkey or something!

and you can serve veggies on the side.

Waffle...haven't had one in a LONG time!

Lunch sounds wonderful. I wish I liked beets. For some reason, I can't change my taste buds & get the acquired taste to like beets. They are one of the only veggies that I don't like. but so healthy i know!

Tuna salad...with tomato!? sounds good. you know, i would love to make a tuna salad with veggies on my own and eat it...no mayo. maybe tuna in oil with veggies. could be very tasty. actually you make me crave it! to eat that tuna salad with veggies....on tasty TOAST!

Changing our eating habit is exactly where to start in the beginning it seem to be a chore but after a while it becomes routine. You will win this battle just stick to your guns.

I am officially retired (for now  at least) as of last Thursday.  I am happy to report I am slowly - but SURELY- getting back into some better habits.  I have walked at least 2.5 miles the last 5 mornings and going again today in a few minutes.  It's miserable weather here and I am not going to try the bicycle until it cools down a little and I can enjoy it better.  Eating is better but not great - but I'm easing back into the better eating habits - going to eat at home for the most part. Trying to establish a good productive routine with housework (inside and outside) and stuff I have been putting off for so long!  Kind of excited.   I have been surprised how out of shape my muscles actually are!  I have sore calves - just from walking.  Today I am adding some light weights for my upper body when I get back and some push ups.  I am sure it won't be the 22 pushup challenge I see going around the internet....unless I do them in like 3 sets....hmmmmm, there's an idea!

Congrats Holly!! Sometimes retirement can be a shock I would guess? Especially if you do not have a set plan in place for it – but I am also quite POSITIVE you will be quite alright. Easier habits should be simpler with more time to schedule them – but also too much time on my hands has always posed a dilemma & more time for unhealthy snacking. But if I were retired & relaxed – I think it would be easier to make those better choices rather than not! While working, I don’t always have the energy to walk in the mornings but it seems perfect during retirement rather than what I do now which is be lazy all morning on weekends in general (besides laundry) when I am not working? Prob not the worst thing although I do know I’m quite the procrastinator.. Yes, I get sore from walking also actually. I’m also out of shape with it. Make sure to stretch after and to rest when you are sore the next day – and then go back to it when the soreness relieves itself so you don’t pose an injury. Lol you have heard of the 22 pushup challenge? I actually did 80 pushups with horrible form and done almost halfway the other day. When I do them right & drop all the way do – most I can do is around 22. My goal is to do really good pushups, the right way right now. It feels good to be able to drop down so deeply & know I’m actually doing them right.
