Updated yesterday's menus. The show was good.  The singer portraying Patsy Cline was fabulous - BUT - she didn't sound like Patsy all that much.  The costumes were great and the format the show was presented in was clever and entertaining.

Today so far:

B:  Oatmeal with 1/2 banana, a little br sugar and almonds, a dash of vanilla creamer - YUM 200

L:  corn, slaw, cheesy potatos, corn stick w butter  450

S:  2 small chocolates 150

I am still eating unhealthy foods, somewhat, but not as much as before - it's a process, people......:o)

D:  small serving of leftover spaghetti and a granola bar 350

S:  Orange 80

1180  not bad - exercise was vigorous housework and laundry. 2nd floor needed it.  Not my preference for exercise, but time limited and the upstairs was bugging me.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

V on 01/09/2012:
Happy to hear you enjoyed yourself yesterday :) Have a good one Holly <3

grannyannie on 01/09/2012:
Hmm...vanilla flavour in oatmeal sounds yum! Glad you enjoyed the show.

Yep, globetrotter! Wish I could travel about 6 months of the year. Going to Morocco for my 60th birthday.

Lost track of menu yesterday.  But think I ate around 2200 calories - pretty high.

Caught up on laundry (sort of) and took a nap.

Today Mark and I are going to Cincinnati to see a play at Playhouse in the Park - "Always Patsy Cline".  It actually began in our town and has migrated to a bigger market.  I missed all the showings here.  We will have lunch somewhere before the show and visit with in-laws.

B:  Roll w jam and whole grapefruit, tea

L:  Chicken Marsala (lunch portion) at Carlo's Italian....wonderful, calimari and ice cream cone from Graeter's - a Cincinnati Institution..wonderful'

D:  a few Cheetos and diet coke......wasn't hungry after that lunch.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

V on 01/08/2012:
I am sure the play will be great :) Have a good day Holly <3

Hi Holly, glad to see that you are looking after yourself. Some comfort food is absolutely understandable and I think calorie counting is a good plan, we will worry about healthy in a while. Hugs over the ocean holly, I would give you a long big one if I was there:)

Hi Holly, I am glad that your anxiety is now over. On to the next step, the greif. Both my parents are dead now and I still miss my mom who died when she was 59. It takes some time, contemplation and wisdom, but I am sure that you will slowly come to terms with his not being here anymore. You are of course right, he is in a better place now, no pain, no saddness. Love to you Holly:)

Hello everyone.  Just checking in to say I'm hanging in here.   Good News.....no nursing home for Dad!  I had prayed and talked to mom and prayed and talked some more over the last several days and this morning we went to the nursing home to visit and see the conditions and the actual room.  It is a VERY nice nursing home - the best there could be but when mom heard that the ratio of CNAs to patients was 9 to 1 and I asked the administrator who showed us around how care there compared to 24 hour in home hospice care she said - no comparison - period.  I was so relieved I almost fainted! and I did cry.  So Mom sems to be on board completely now in taking steps to get the 24 hour care here in their house.

I am still eating fine.  No time to overeat, I guess. Sticking to healthy choices with a piece of chocolate here and there.  I can tell my pant are a little loose.  I am interested to see how I will be able to go back to work on Tuesday next week.  Hopefully mom will be have the CNAs in a couple of times and they will be getting to know dad and know the routines etc.

Thanks for "listening" to me.  Love to you all!

Love you too Holly :) Thanks for the beautiful card!!

Maria7 on 12/30/2011:
At Mom's nursing home, I was told a CNA has 10 to take care of and when something is needed (bathroom, diaper change, etc.), they have to wait their turn (and I've had meetings with them about this problem over and over and over). Glad you all got everything resolved about his care and are happy and at peace about it. :-D

Hi everyone.  I'm still hanging in here.  At  mom and dad's tonight and cannot sleep.  Went to bed at 11:20 and Dad woke up at 12:45 - helped him go to bathroom and I just can't relax and get to sleep.  Mom did not go forward with the plan to get the rest of the times we have open scheduled for round-the-clock care and she is talking about putting him in a nursing home.  I do not want that, but I don't have the final say.  I am going to have to talk to her about it tomorrow.  The CNA coordinator said she can get people in fast.  I hope so.  I don't mind the daytimes, at all, but the nights are catching up with me.  I know it's not forever, and that gets me through.  I cannot work and do this so I am taking the rest of the week/year off and working from my laptop and phone only.  I wouldn't have to do that, but my partner is off for the next two weeks.  He takes about 10 weeks of vacation each year.  He is about 10 months away from retirement, though, he's 64.  I am not  :o)

Anyway - I ate too many sweets today - a heath bar was the main culprit.  I need to get a walk in tomorrow.  It has turned cold and rainy and windy here.  Much more like the seasonal weather you'd expect, but it's supposed to be back in the 50s by end of the week.

I guess it's good that you're able to stay home for the office during this time, although it's too bad you have to log in and work. I hope you'll be able to talk to your Mom about getting the in-home care, that sounds like an ideal situation for you all. Our weather here is still weird - waiting for the snow!

biscottibody59 on 12/28/2011:
I feel for you--hang in there!

Donkey on 12/28/2011:
Recently, my stepfather was hospitalized with liver cancer. He had complications from the surgery. It is very trying to be on the sidelines of these health decisions between husband and wife. So you have my sympathies for sure (((hugs)))

~WI~ on 12/28/2011:
Holly, you are a beautiful woman. I am so happy your parents have you. I sit at the hospital with hospice patients at the very end of their lives when family MUST take time to get rest, shower, eat, etc. This way, they don't have a moment without someone by their side. I can honestly say there have been people in their last moments of life who squeeze my hand, smile a little or even manage to say a few little whispered words. It is so very, very important for these precious loved ones to not be alone, it comforts them so very much to have people around who care. There was one man who loved the radio playing the CD of Frank Sinatra. He would tap his index finger very slightly and had a little grin.

Been thinking about you a lot lately, you and your folks. What you are facing. Praying for you, sending you my friendship and care. The Strength of God be with you and in you. ((((hug))))

grannyannie on 12/28/2011:
That's really tough to watch a parent go downhill but you're are a wonderful daughter for helping out.

I was eyeballing a Heath Bar on a trip to a store last week and I love those. Haven't had one in a very long time but resisted temptation. Not on my own though as my hubby and sister were there to tell me to put it down!! Ha!

Hi everyone.  Just stopping by for a  quick post.  So much has been going on - all havng to do with taking care of my dad and mom.  Let's just say this past week has been one of the most stressful ones ever for everyone.  We have some help lined up (home health aids) for the coming week and need to keep working on getting someone (mostly) around the clock to help mom take care of him at home while contemplating whether nursing home care would be better under the circumstances.  His decline came up so fast here in the last 2 weeks we just weren't prepared.  It has been hard to find any one to help through the holidays.  I spent most of Christmas eve and all day Christmas Day with Mom and Dad.  We know we don't have a lot of time left with him and I want to try to make it as comfortable for him as possible and as easy for Mom to keep him home as long as possible, if not until the end.  The biggest thing was getting Mom and Dad talked into moving him from upstairs bedroom into the living room into a hopsital bed.  He is more comfortable and even said he likes it better, which he didn't think he would!   Hospice as been helpful and I tell you I can't say enough about our Firefighters Lift Assist program here!  They sent three big strong guys to move my dad from upstairs down to the living room and his new bed.  On Christmas Eve - no less!

On the health front - except for a few cookies my eating has been good (definitely no over eating).  Never thought I'd say "unfortunately" about not having an appetite, but due to the circumstances I don't.  Usually I am a stress eater, as you all know, but I have been able to observe it's lower levels of stress that drive me to food.  Greater stress makes me lose my appetite, apparently.  It is not worth it, of course.  On the exercise front - I have gotten in a lot of exercise going up and down steps, lifting, cleaning and in general, but due to uncommonly warm weather (50 degrees on Christmas Day!!!) I have gotten in one hour walks with the dogs the last two days for my "breaks".   With all that is going on I am not sure when I'll post again, have tried to comment on everyone's diaries, but know I've missed a few.  Please don't be offended if I happened to miss yours - it just hit or miss with me right now.  God bless each of you going into the new year.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Kati on 12/26/2011:
sorry about the big stress you're experiencing, Holly :( I hope you get everything positively arranged soon! Faith! xoxo, Kat

Umpqua on 12/26/2011:
I'm glad you're getting to spend a lot of time with your Dad and that's awesome that the firefighters came in to help over the holidays! Thinking of you as always Holly xoxo

Maria7 on 12/26/2011:
Bless you, Holly. I understand some of what you are going through, having taken care of my Mom for many, many years and lost my Daddy when I was a child. That is really outstanding that those nice people came over to help with moving your Dad on Christmas Eve. Glad he is adjusting well to being in the living room versus his room. I know that helps. It is a very, very hard decision when a loved one is moved into a nursing home...both for the family member who moves and for the surrounding close family members to adjust to. It was hard for both my Mom and for me to adjust to at first and it took time for both of us to get used to Mom moving into a nursing home almost 4 years ago, but now I just simply feel...thankful. Thankful to the Lord for making a way for her to get the constant 24 hours a day/nite help she needed that I could not provide for her by myself although I tried and it was extremely difficult, the more help she required as time went on, including a lot of lifting her. I will continue to pray for you and your family, Holly. Hang in there. :-)
