Just stopping by to say -- MUTSU apple for breakfast  -  If you haven't tried one - get one before they are gone.  Best found at Orchards or Natural Food Markets - Farmers Markets, etc.  Make sure (if possible) they were grown locally.  One of the BEST things you will ever eat.  :o)

B:  Coffee,, Apple, banana  260

L:  Subway Tuna and light chips diet coke  400

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

moogy on 09/23/2011:
Hi holly, have a good weekend, I will check out the fb post as soon as I finish here. Thanks:)

thinkpositive on 09/23/2011:
Thanks for you comments! very helpful I think if it I didn't have DD & people like you, Moogy, V, & Umpqua- and others, I would be back to my harmful eating habits! I do miss the great apples that I got at home. Have to compensate by eating Mangos & pineapple!

V on 09/23/2011:
OOOh i will search for them on my shopping trip Sunday :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/24/2011:
I've never heard of a Mutsu apple! wow, i must look that one up!

greengirl on 09/25/2011:
Wow I've never heard of Mutsu either. I wonder if they've made their way to this side of the big pond?? They sound really tasty !!

Hope you are doing well Holly. Re:your comment - I find that being sly is an advantage as I get older!! LOL

I can't walk anymore, not much distance, anyway - like 2 miles most nights hurts my knees.  I was so down about this for so long.  I was full of plain old self-pity about what I couldn't do - I really had myself a good "pout" over a period of several months, because I couldn't do what I wanted to do - walk - wahhh, wahhh, wahhh!  I think that is why I was having such a hard time exercising at all because big baby me could n't do what she had always done.....then I got fed up with myself and finally got a new bike - which I had been talking about doing for about 5 years!  Now I am stepping up my exercise again.  For some reason riding the bike does not hurt my knees as much. Life is full of losses, small and large.  It is also full of gains -small ones and big ones.  Now - choose - losses or gains?  Which will it be for you?

B:  Toast and jam coffee 350

L:  Chips and salsa, chicken fajati - meat and vegetables only

Bike ride at 5:00 with friend and quick dinner afterwards.

16 mi bike ride planned tomorrow night at 6:00 with bike ckub

16 mi bike ride planned for saturday at 3:00

Weather is good today - hope it holds out for the bike rides this weekend.

D:  BBQ tofu, roasted carrots and onions, ginger cookie

Biked about 7-8 miles  Bigger ride (hopefully) tomorrow

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/22/2011:
Do you know the reason your knees hurt? Mine have started to bother me sometimes so I'm doing knee strengthening exercises - sit in chair and lift and hold leg. Builds front of thigh and the muscle around the knee. Good luck!

grannyannie on 09/22/2011:
Definitely you don't want to take too much ibuprofen. Bad news for your stomach.

greengirl on 09/22/2011:
Perhaps the bike exercise is less impact Holly. I had my right knee xrayed and it showed osteoarthritis (wear and tear damage) and the doc said I had to lose weight but keep up exercise to strengthen the muscle around my knee or risk a knee replacement in 5 years. That was 2 or 3 years ago and since I've lost weight this year I have had hardly a twinge or real pain. I hate getting older !!!

Umpqua on 09/22/2011:
Great attitude about switching up your exercise due to the knee pain. Since I've already had arthritis for several years, I foresee having to make adjustments like this in the future. Better to have a good attitude about it like you!

V on 09/22/2011:
I am so sorry about your knee issues.. It is very fortunate that riding does not cause you grief... I hope your day goes well Holls <3

Raining here - still.  Didn't get my ET workout in last night.  Took vegetable FOREVER to roast and I kept thinking they would be done any minute so I didn't go downstairs and get on the ET. The vegetables were very good except the rudabaga and parsnips didn't get completely done.  I think next time I'll stick with beets and sweet potatos and something else.  Also made some broccoli  slaw with golden raisins and almonds.  It was a very vegetable Monday.

B:  Coffee, 2 slices of toast and 2 eggs

trying to have more for breakfast.....V!

L:  Carrot Soup, 7 Wheat Thins and 2 T pimento cheese, Orange - very full now - 415

Dinner tonight will be with friend to a fancy-schmancy resturant she has been wanting to go to and we bought a voucher for on Pete's Deals.  We were supposed to go about 3 weeks ago and she got sick.....it expires soon so better go tonight.

I hope to get off work a bit early to ride my bike for at least 45 minutes - at least 10 miles or so.....

Yes surprise treats are definitely a challenge for me too. They have been alot less around here since my husband is 'dieting' as well. I hope it stays that way, and i tthink it will because he made a comment to me over the weekend about how hard he realizes rhis is for me now that he is doing it, and how willpower is a main aspect. Your menu looks great, have fun at your 'fancy schmancy' restaurant ;)!

OK, I'm putting carrots and tomatillos on my grocery list :-)

Nice to have a catch up with a good friend. Hope the rain holds off for you tomorrow. I can't remember when it last rained here but I know that it was just for a day and night and only enough to wet the lawns. I loved your comment about truth never fading, so true!! What is true lasts for an eternity:)

21 mile Bike Ride in the rain most of the time, but was still fun and good to be OUTSIDE!

Hooked up my bicycle computer (gift from husband). It helps me know how far I've ridden, etc., but it does not tell me average speed or my cadence, which I would really like to know.  It has a clock, so I guess I could divide athe mileage by the # of minutes I ride, but I sometimes stop a minute or two to hydrate or for traffic lights or to talk to someone.

UPDATE:  Made Laura's Carrot Soup with Tomatillo Relish soup recipe tonight - OHHHH - it's gooooood!

I LOVE your menu! Btw...WOW on the 21 miles bike ride...I'm gonna start calling you the Kentucky Bikeathon Woman! As in MARATHON but with a bike...:-D What a nice gift from your Hubby...your bicycle computer...sounds real nice.

panda22 on 09/18/2011:
Great food and exercise today :). I love groupons as well! I've gotten movie tickets for $2 apiece before...you just can't beat them! You got some awesome deals, those are hard to come by especially the coffee! Have a great evening :D

greengirl on 09/18/2011:
Holly I really admire your bike exercise, I would love to be able to do something similar but my balance is so bad that I dare not risk it on the open roads. Your comment about your husband snoring made me remember some years ago when I made hubby buy twin beds for us because his snoring and benign essential tremor were keeping me awake. Unfortunately poor hubby couldn't sleep in a single bed at all and in the end I relented and we went back to a double. I still have a problem with him snoring but while Sarah has been at Uni I have been able to retreat to her bedroom if the snoring gets too much :-) What we have to put up with sometimes !!!!

moogy on 09/18/2011:
Wonderful ride there holly, personally I hate to sweat, really really hate it!!!! That is why I only 'glisten', I tell you if I really was pouring with sweat I wouldn't exercise. Plus having been a readhead I my face turns bright red, no a good look, hence I exercise in private:) Have a good week, oh! and I told you that you would feel good if you got outside didn't I? LOL Sorry, couldn't resist!!:)

V on 09/18/2011:
Hey Hey Holly!! great job with the cycling :) I hope you have a nice relaxing evening!! Love you!!

Umpqua on 09/18/2011:
Yay on the cycling and the soup! I need to make it soon, the boys will finally enjoy it I think. Yes, there is always leftover relish. I've used it as a salsa, or just as a topping for other stuff like omelettes, on toast, on a sandwich or quesadilla...It works in so many ways. And since I don't roast tomatillos otherwise, it's a nice treat!

THANK YOU all for the supportive comments!  I really needed them today!  I have been glued to the couch - not like me- for the last 3 days.  Today I will exercise.  I need to take care of myself through exercise.  Gonna nip this trend in the bud today!  I plan to respond / comment on your diaries later today, too.  I miss checking in with everyone every day. Food has been weird, but not bad, really.  A few too many "treats" but calories have been in the 1500 range.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

liza36 on 09/14/2011:
At least your calories are in the range, but I hear ya on curtailing the treats. That's what I should do to! Have a great day. You'll feel great after getting off that couch!

Maybe a salad with leftover grilled chicken for dinner tonight???

I want to hear from Dad -his appt was at 1:30 this afternoon.

I want to ride my bike tonight - but can you believe it - after all the pressure washing I did for friends - I STILL need to do some on my deck and driveway and the patio needs it again!  I am going to opt for bike ride, though.  No procrastination.

When I went golfing on the weekend instead of doing some important chores at home, I complained a little bit about what still needed to be done. One of my friends looked at me and said "the housekeeping will always be there, this week, next week, and the week after that". She's right. So go for your bike ride and enjoy it!

greengirl on 09/13/2011:
Make the most of your lovely weather Holly :-)

~WI~ on 09/13/2011:
Keeping your dad in my prayers. I am so glad you have the time to exercise and take care of yourself. I think that is so important when everything is so stressful. Keep up the good work, you are doing well! I remember the weigh-in issues you spoke about, and I can understand how the weekly weigh in would be difficult. I know they let people take a pass on weighing in and even offer support if you've had a previous issue with anything. So that may have changed since the previous days. I don't remember them being so supportive the first time I joined either. Hope you are having a great day :)

Worked on the yard, the deck and patio instead of riding bike :o(  But everything looks a lot better now.

May get a ride in tonight...the weather is good cooler and sunny most of the day.  It's clouding up again, now, though.

Talked to Dad.  He's very short of breath.  He goes to doc on Monday to check the blood thinner level in his system.  He'll ask about whether or not he needs to see a cardiologist or not and whether he need oxygen or no and whether or not he can resume chemo or not..

Having a hard time updateing entries and keeping up.  I am doing OK, though.  I rode 45 min on bike tonight.  It def was on the cool side, but that is ok - computer not hooked up yet, but I probably rode about 10, not really sure.  LOTS of BIG HILLS!    So wasn't that fast.  There is a ride I'd like to do on Saturday that is 19 miles.  I'd have to drive about an hour to get to the beginning of the route, but it might work out.  The weather is supposed to be in low 70s by then.  I will ride somewhere, anyway.  Love to ride that bike!

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Hollybelle, I got some more of our beloved scupponongs today at the farmers market...hand picked them out, no less. (Only a fellow-scupponong-lover would understand.) Let me ask you...are you a fan of candied apples with nuts on them? They are second only to scupponongs for me and I bought three at the grocery store the other day and all are gone now...only 230 cals each...yum. Way to go on the bike...wow...19 miles? in one day? Big wow. your 70's weather sounds wonderful! :-)
