Still raining.  Gonna check on Dad this morning - see what the day holds for him.  Then check on Mom.  Maybe a ride tonight?  Played cards with husband, daughter and BF last night - I came in 2nd.  Nothing else to do since raining.  My flowers have perked back up.  Eating was OK despite daughter making one of her creations - a York Peppermint Patty Cake.  I had one thin piece - very rich-was all I wanted.  Other food OK.  Not tracking, but I know I'm within 1600-1700 maintenance mode for now.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/06/2011:
Well done on resisting a big slab of cake.

KayBee on 09/06/2011:
I'm a bit reluctant to go to the Dr's right now... not even going near the hospital - because of the debt. But I have to go back by the middle of September, 14th to be exact. I have Xrays scheduled for Friday. So don't worry, I'm going to clarify everything. Anyway, the pains are worse as the day progresses of course, I get more tired sitting, walking. But I noticed being a lot better. I still feel the "black hole" on my back though, it's a "dead" part - but the pain in my shoulders is diminishing which is a huge relief to me, as it's the worst of pains ever! Like if my body were on fire - not in a good way, LOL...

Umpqua on 09/06/2011:
Omigosh, that cake sounds wonderful, great job with that! I hope your Dad will be able to come home soon.

V on 09/06/2011:
I got my TURBO BLING today!!! Yayyyyy I love love love it!!!! Thank you and that beautiful daughter of yours...Hopefully i will be able to model it for Chalene in person soon!!!! You are such a wonderful friend :) Love YOU

~WI~ on 09/07/2011:
I am sorry to hear about your dad having the health troubles :( I too watch my dad struggle daily with his health. It is very hard for us, especially daughters, to see the men who once picked us up in their arms and seemed larger than life, turn frail and sick. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Mmmmm..cake...I've been craving it like crazy lately good for you on just having a thin slice!

I really wish we could have your rain holly. I rains to infrequently here and when it does it is usually for a few minutes and at most a few hours. Hope you get a ride in tomorrow:)

Thanks for the welcome, and I'm finding Eleanor R to be so amazing! I knew bits and pieces before but learning more about her personal life makes her my hero!

Thanks for all the encouragement DD friends!  Means a lot.  Dad is doing "ok".  He will be on the blood thinner for quite sometime.  Apparently as soon as they get the medication to a certain level in his blood they will let him go home and then he will have to go back and forth to the doctor to monitor the medication, etc.  It is unclear at this point if he will be able to continue his chemotherapy or not.  My mom is holding up "ok" for the time being.  I don't know how I will be able to help them once I have to go back to work - we will have to work it out.  Daughter may be able to help transport him some and my employer will probably let me be flexible with work hours, etc.

Good news I am eating OK - although some sweets - my stress food!  And I got a 15 mile bike ride in yesterday morning. Didn't get to ride my bike this morning and it's raining now - so will try to go tomorrow morning at least 12-15 miles again.  I do love my bike.

Later......

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

moogy on 09/04/2011:
I suspect that those bike rides will be your saving grace over the coming months holly. A chance to destrss and focus on what needs to be done, rather than all those thoughts running round in your head. My daughter has been on blood thinners for 18 years and they do work, thank goodness for modern medicine! Do they have a community transport scheme or a hospital bus that can help your dad, they do here, might be worth checking out holly. I can understand the sweet eating totally and absolutely understandable. Love and hugs lady:)

Hi guys - not much to say today - very stressful time right now.  Dad was admitted to hospital yesterday when he began having strange symptoms while getting chemotherapy.  It turned out to be caused by BIG blood clot in the port vein in his chest - very bad place - very dangerous.  He is getting massive doses of blood thnning medications which have dire consequences themselves - for example if he falls or has an injury that would normally cause a bruise he would hemmorage and bleed to death.  It's so sad to see my strong Daddy who could will himself to do most anything go though all this here at the end of his life.  So sad.  Sorry for a bummer of an entry, but this is what is going on.  More reason to do everything you can to stay healthy strong for as long as you can!  Get your colonoscopy people!!!

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

moogy on 09/02/2011:
I am glad you stopped by and shared your feeling of helplessness and fear. There is always someone here who knows how you feel. My daughter has had two blood clots in her lungs (she is only 37). It is hard to go through the illness and its consequences with our parents. Mine are both gone now. I can only offer love and understanding of the sick feeling you have in the pit of your stomach. Hugs holly:)

KayBee on 09/03/2011:
So sad about your daddy, I'm so sorry Holly. I send you love and strength from the deepest depths of my heart.

I'm very sorry to hear this news about your father Holly. You will all be in my thoughts.

I'm sorry to hear about your father's illness, you're right, we have to be the healthiest we can be. My father suffered from depression, and it was heartbreaking seeing him deteriorate, prayers for you and your family that the treatments work well.

About 1200 cals yesterday and a short and FAST bike ride over big rolling hills (around 6-7 miles).  I'll be glad to have my computer installed soon so that I can track miles better, although I am good a guessing.  I love my bike!

B:  Iced coffee and banana  200

lunch with girlfriend today.

Taking off work tomorrow and Tuesday for a LONG holiday weekend - I can't wait - considering going to OH to ride the Little Miami Trail - it's a rails to trails path that spans over 100 miles.  I will only be riding part of it.  I have always wanted to go - they say it is FLAT and there neat little places to have lunch, get a drink and got o restrooms, etc along the way.  I used to have a map - will have to dig that up.  It runs along the old railroad tracks. The southe rn entry point is at Mason OH and it goes all the way North to Springfield.  Might do this Saturday or Monday.

Progress as of today: 13.6 lbs lost so far, only 14.4 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 09/01/2011:

sweetpea1977 on 09/01/2011:
That trail sounds very similar to our Silver Comet Trail, which I love. I hope to do the whole thing eventually, even if it is in segments!

Enjoy your long holiday weekend!

OK did 1.5 hours on the new bike.  Don't know how far exactly, but I think about 12 miles.  As well as replacing the pedals - I must tilt the seat down and back a tad.  It is much less padded than last seat so it will take getting used to - I'm a tad saddle-sore.  I also must get a new helmet without a visor as it casues me to have to lift my head too much and put strain on my neck to see the road ahead.  I sat moe upright on old bike so it wasn't a problem.  I love the new bike all in all.  It's great.  I can highly recommend this bike.

Food today:

B:  coffee, smoothie

L:  1/2 ham sandwich

sex is a big part of life, huh!? :-) thanks for all your comments. that's really awesome, 1.5 hours is spectacular! i almost never bike that much. you definitely need endurance for it. have a good day, lady!

Got to get that seat in the right place Holly ouch!! Recipe for the pancakes. In a blender place 4 eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1/3 cup almond meal (ground almonds), pinch salt. Options 1T zylitol (or stevia), pinch nutmeg, pinch cinnamon. Let the mixure sit for half an hour. Spray pan and pour. Should make about six to eight.
