Posted Butternut Squash Recipe on the Forum in case anyone wants to check it out.

P.S.  This is also good as a curried soup and not bad served cold.

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 15.6 lbs to go!

getmebackto150 on 03/03/2011:
Mmmm... thanks for the recipe... It sounds delish! Think you could use veggie broth in place of the chicken broth? I don't eat meat and it SEEMS like it would be an easy swap...

Umpqua on 03/03/2011:
That soup looks yummy, thanks for posting! Oh and I was thinking I might sub out veggie broth too. I've done this in other recipes and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

sweetpea1977 on 03/03/2011:
yummy yum!! The roasted version sounds especially good!! thanks for posting!

Thank you for your kind and supportive words that you left on my diary. I should start with the tracking down of what is causing the seizures on Monday, of course, it will probably take weeks to schedule all the different tests. Whatever!!!! Have a good weekend!!

Good news - the knee has recovered from being a prop in the bathtub!  I am ready for Zumba or some other exercise.  The bad news - this hasn't been a good exercise week.  I had too much other stuff going on.  But I'm not going to worry about it.  I'm just going to pick up where I left off last week.

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 15.6 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 02/25/2011:
I'm glad your knee is feeling better! I've realized I was paying so much attention to my calorie count that I was letting too many carbs get by per day. So just by adjusting that you could see some scale movement.

moogy on 02/25/2011:
Good news!! Just take it easy this week and don't try and make up for a slow one otherwise you will find yourself on the sidelines again. Love the idea of just picking up where you left of though. Good for you!!

Checking in to say I'm doing OK.  My professional association meeting was yesterday and although it was a LONG day - it was good.  I am doing fine on eating.   Exercise will be tomorrow.  My knee is a little sore again (YIKES).  Last night I fell ASLEEP in the TUB and had my foot proped up on the drain thing and that is what made my knee sore-it was kind of slightly hyper-extended whle I was asleep.  I think if I rest it it will be OK tomorrow.  DARN but LOL!

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 15.6 lbs to go!

starfish on 02/23/2011:
Hope the knee feels better soon :-)

Umpqua on 02/23/2011:
Geez, be careful with falling asleep in the tub, that scares me! I'm sure you were exhausted, I hope today is better for you.

moogy on 02/23/2011:
I don't mind falling asleep in the bath, there is little chance of slipping under, there is just too much of me. Sorry about your knee though, that's not good. I think rest is a good idea even though it is a little frustrating.:)

V on 02/23/2011:
Oh Holly, I am sorry about your knee :( I hope it gets better! Take care, sending you some sunshine!

Did OK last two days.  Wed night was my rest from exercise night.  Also tonight.  I did Cario and Strength last night.  I love the work out, but I don't know if I can continue in that class bc the instructor is so "off".  Floor is not sprung and she does lots of impact stuff.  She is off the beat of music and works on the upbeat.....enough - you have heard it before.  Knowing the difference is a curse!  I can't enjoy classes unless the instructor is really good (not hard - good).  Seriously - as old as I am I think I could give this lady a run for her money!

Anyway - next week is my professional assoc big program - all day affair.  I have some errands to run for that this week end and then we'll have it overwith on Tuesday.  I won't get to exercise as much next week (Mon and Tue) because of that - but I'll make up for it.

I am feeling stronger every day and my knee is feeling more "trust-worthy", too.  Now if I can just not eat so many biscuits and goodies!  I've done better the last two days.

A sad note to add - my dad didn't get good news on Wednesday - the chemo is not working this time.  They are going to try another drug starting Monday.  It has more side-effects and more people have allergic reactions to it, though.  I am sad and at a loss about this.  I am not ready to let my daddy go.  Who would be?  I never will be.

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 15.6 lbs to go!

loveray on 02/18/2011:
you should totally get your group fitness re-certification!! you would be amazing and im sure you were in the past. have a great weekend!

moogy on 02/18/2011:
I don't think anyone is ready to let a parent go, my mom died when she was 59 only four years older than me. However, the only thing we can do is try to let them go with dignity and grace and cry a lot after. It has now been twenty years and I still occassionally find myself thinking ' I should tell mom about that' funny!! I think we always miss them but get used to them not being around. It is the way of the world and will happen to all of us. Is your dad starting the new treatment because he wants to or because he feels he should? That happens sometimes, there comes a time when they are ready to go but keep trying because they love us. Love to you today:)

V on 02/18/2011:
Sorry to hear about your dad :( I will include you all in my prayers...Love to you and your family

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/19/2011:
yes, i bought my Toshiba at Best Buy. If i didn't pay insurance and just paid the basic amount and put all the software on myself, it would have probably come out to something in the 400's probably around $450. but, i did get extra insurance and i bought it programmed and with antispyware...ended up costing $750...yes, a pretty penny for a regularly $400 computer. but you know, at least it's insured for three full years if ANYTHING happens. and, 700 is still less than many computers. i was upset at the time, but i'm happy with this Toshiba. it's been working out well.

I am sorry to hear about your dad's health. :-( I will keep him in my thoughts.

Did OK on food yesterday.  Husband and I ate out and I had salmon, rice and broccoli.  It was wonderful!  Ate normally the rest of the day.

Workout was cardio and strength.  It was good.  Although being the former instructor AKA exercise class SNOB that I am - I must say the instructor did not move weights in time to music and was often on the upbeat instead of the downbeat which all irritates the snot out of me!  REALLY!  I got a good workout and am just the right amount of sore today - will probably be really sore tomorrow.  Tonight I have church group and will rest for Zumba or some other class tomorrow.  I am going to make an appointment with nutritionist/dietitian.  One viist comes free with membership at the gym.  My 3 mo membership is up on the 18th but I'm going to join for one more month and see how it goes with the knee.  When warmer weather comes I'll be exercising outdoors more.  Then when it gets really hot I'll go back inside!

Dad should find out about future treatment today.  Feeling anxious about that - but not as much as I know he and mom must feel.

Oh yeah, it's almost warm here today - supposed to get up to 56!  WOW!

More later.

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 15.6 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 02/16/2011:
Haha at your critiques of your instructor. It must make the workout more interesting at least ;) That's exciting that you'll get to meet with a nutritionist. That's something I'd like to do one day, especially since I've made some big changes in our diet over the past 6 months. I hope you get some good news about your Dad's treatments, and have a good one.

Umpqua on 02/16/2011:
That makes a lot of sense, and for me that's going to be adjusting to work again and coping with deadlines and stress. And working from home with access to all my food makes it even more difficult, so I need to be careful. Our snow is melting - finally. Unfortunately our driveway is now an ice skating rink and we have a long way to go before the ground makes an appearance. We're getting there though!

getmebackto150 on 02/16/2011:
56...YAY!!! Even though the instructor was eh (my pet peeves too!) at least you got a good workout in!! Have a good one!

sweetpea1977 on 02/16/2011:
lol, as a former band geek, that instructor would have gotten on my nerves too!

Good luck with the nutritionist appt!

moogy on 02/16/2011:
I can just see you emphasising the correct movements trying to get the instructor in time!!! Funny! I hope you have a good day and that you hear encouraging news about your father.:)

Zumba went OK.  I wore new shoes and held back a little, there are still some moves I just don't get, but knee didn't swell.  I also did 15 minutes on recumbant bike before I left the gym to make sure I was working hard enough and to test my knee on the bike, etc.

Did OK on eating - just a little but of chocolate.  Didn't overeat yesterday.  Have a few pounds to go until I am back to the posted weight - about 4???  That's OK I'm going to leave it because I know it won't be long until I'm back there.

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

you gave me the same talk that my husband did today... He said about 4 times before I left the house this AM... LOW AND SLOW... If I'm sore I need to take it easy... I think my plan is 30 minutes on the bike and 20 minutes walking uphill on the treadmill... nothing too high impact... I guess now that I'm 30, my body doesn't take abuse like it did Waay back in my 20s LOL

moogy on 02/15/2011:
I am glad that the shoes helped you and also that you didn't over do it. Good for you, it is good to know how much to push and when to reat. I hope that you have a good day tomorrow.

Hello all.  Checking in for an update and to see how you chicks are fareing these days!

We had wonderful weather here yesterday - 50+ degrees.  Windy!  Went for a long walk with friend and dogs.  Good thing, too because I ate "everything in sight" all last week.  I am done with that nonesense now, though and am going to make this week a healthy eating week - like I usually do - whew, I must have gone off the deep end for a little while.  I don't feel good, either - sluggish.  I'll be better by Wednesday.

Going to Zumba tonight.  My knee seems to be doing better.  I went to ortho doc and he said just take it easy - probably some osteoarthritis setting in at "my age"!!!  I can deal with it, though.  Also I got new shoes for Zumba as I think the regular athletic shoes were having too much "drag" on the floor and contributing to the knee issue.  They are Nike "Musique"s.  Highly recommended by Zumba instructors on line.......we'll see.

Dad is supposed to find out if his chemo is working or not this week - on Wednesday.  I am anxious and I know he must be!

Daughter's last day of work is Friday.  She will be a full-time student only then.  I know it was hard for her to give up her ballroom dance instructor job, but  she appears to be dedicated to school now.

I wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day - Love, Holly

Happy V Day! And thanks for your comments on my last entry. I think you're right that it's all about finding the right balance to keep everyone happy. I have to remember that and also that the kids really do love preschool, so it's not like they are suffering while away from me!

loveray on 02/14/2011:
you should definitely go to mexico!! the secrets line of hotels is the ones i have always taught for and they are very refined, more classy and less typically "Resorty" - however, very americanized - they cater to the americans a lot. so, if you are looking for more of a traditional trip, i wouldnt go to the riviera maya area. this is the most safe spot, however - so make your choice wisely. your daughter could probably sign up for my program and teach some kind of classes for a discounted rate. let me know if you want the info and ill email you! this is the resort we stayed at this time: http://www.secretsresorts.com/silversands/

V on 02/14/2011:
Happy V day!!! Yes the dollar store has been a pleasant break on the wallet, for the items I get there :) Even the flimsy paper plates are useful..LOL Have a wonderful evening and don't overdo it at Zumba!!

moogy on 02/14/2011:
Lovely to see a post from you holly. I am not surprised you went of the deep end. Stress will do that to you unless you stay vigilant and when you are exhausted it is hard to be vigilant. I hope that this week is a better eating week for you. Hugs:)

(Healthy Eating and Exercise)
Weight: 165.6

Updated weight.  I've gainied a bit since I have been sick. I am feeling better lately - whew!  Thank goodness!  Did Zumba Monday and wore knee braces (yes on both knees) and knee didn't swell.  I'd say I did it 75% of all out.  Goiing again tomorrow night.  Bought new athletic shoes - Asics gels with the new-ish heel design that has like round things on it.  I like them and got a good sale price!  $120 shoes for around $72.  They should help make a difference, too!  Walked a couple of days when weather was better.  We aren't getting the brunt of the storm at all.  Sorry for those of you who are.  Stay warm and know I'm praying for an early thaw!!!

Dad and Mom have been ill - bad colds and very sick.  Dad couldn't get chemo as scheduled this week, but got it today.  Should know soon (2-3 weeks) if it's doing good.

Going to University production of Porgy and Bess - friend playing "Sportin' Life" character.  Two other vocalists I have been wanting to hear.

Went to Burn the Floor dance show in Cincinnati.  It was great.

Daughter seems very committed to school and has given her notice at work so she can concentrate on studies.  I know this decision didn't come all that easy for her and she has mixed emotions.  Proud of her.  She's growing up!

Food - being inconsistent, but over all OK.

Hurry Spring - Love to you all!!!!!

Progress as of today: 12.4 lbs lost so far, only 15.6 lbs to go!

moogy on 02/02/2011:
Sounds like you are getting serious with the Zumba and the walking. Lots going on with you, look after yourself and enjoy life when given the opportunity. Hurry Autumn!!

I loves ya Porgyyyyyyyyy(that was me singing,) Sound like Nina Simone, don't I LOL I wish ;) Hey thank you for your support, it's tough because just as i was getting a little more comfortable with adding slowly, this gain thing kinda slowed it(not stopping) It is really a bit of experimentation and it will eventually work its self out but it is a bit stressful...I am going to stay positive and as always thank you so much! I love asics and that is a really sweet deal :) Have a wonderful evening!!!

Sorry to hear you have been sick, but good work with the Zumba and walks!

I hope you have a wonderful time at the Porgy and Bess show.

As for couponing, I sent you an email. ;) Yes, I am the organized planner. One of my goals this year is to cut our grocery spending in half as I (being the primary grocery shopper) spent way too much last year!

so glad to see you check in - beeing thinking about you and missing you too! i know you have a lot going on these days and you are doing quite well considering...the sickness really got me down as well, but so glad you are doing better. porgy and bess should be a ton of fun - im a big musicals girl, myself. lots of love.

Maria7 on 02/02/2011:
Glad you are feeling better. Hope your Mom and Dad are soon better, too. :-)

Umpqua on 02/03/2011:
I'm glad you are feeling better and it sounds like you've been busy! The Kinect is awesome for all of us, it keeps us moving when we're trapped in the house. I know there is a Zumba add-on for my Fitness game but I'm too chicken to try it, being as uncoordinated as I am. Maybe I'll work up to it ;)

thanks for your words Holly, you're right - I'm not 100% OK! I haven't been participating in the Weekly Challenges for months either!!!! This is work stress, I'm getting less and less motivated at work and I had that wonderful opportunity to leave and I didn't grab it because of other reasons, too... but life's not getting back into normal for me, my sub-conscious keeps bugging me and sabotaging me all the time...

Hello everyone.  I haven't been on DD for so long and I come on today and see this new look.  I like it!  Miss you all.  I've been very SICK!!  Like for 3+ weeks - been to the doc twice - two rounds of antibiotics, steroids and expectorant!  Yikes I'll tell you I am ready to feel better.  Missed 3 days work last week and laid in bed all weekend.

I am not exercising at all since being ill, but intend to begin right up again as soon as I'm strong enough.  I haven't been eating too badly, but not too well, either.  Holding my own on weight.

Will post menus more as I get back in the swing of things.

B:  Tea

L:  Lunch at favorite home-cooking vegetable restaurant - sweet potato with butter, kale, 2 Fried Green Tomato slices, cole slaw  500

S:  Big Cookie - why did I do this?  350

D:  1/2 turkey sandwich on light bread - 150

Misc??  150

Total 1150 - YAY not bad!  Exercise - going to have my nails done - I was overdue!!  LOL!

Love, Holly

Maria7 on 01/17/2011:
You've been missed a lot, Holly! Glad you are back. Hope you are at least beginning to feel better. Hubby and I both got sick right before Christmas...we each had to take antibiotics and Mucinex DM and he had to take some cough syrup. That elimated a Christmas party we were wanting to have over here at the house. :-) Oh, well. Take good care of yourself. Love ya!
