Weight: 215.0

Today I feel much better, although I still have a cough. Im going to go on a little walk right now for 20 minutes, perhaps that will clear me up a bit more. Im trying to take it easy on the exercise over the next couple of days, I don't want to get sick again. I also feel like Im gaining a little bit of weight right now which is actually exactly what I want to do - ive dropped about 4 pounds the past couple of days, and thats probably not that great of stuff I lost - Im filling up with protein to help me get on my feet. Today:

Breakfast: oatmeal and water. Lunch: grapefruit, turkey, and some almonds. Dinner: tuna salad, more grapefruit, granola bar, and popcorn. Lots more water to follow. . .

I don't really have an appetite right now, and thats fine as well. . . just trying to take it easy.

OKay! 190 here I come!!!!! Cheers

Progress as of today: 90 lbs lost so far, only 25 lbs to go!

mmuraro on 02/04/2008:
Your progress is awersome! Congrats. And that's smart of you to have more protein to get back on your feet. Congrats!

thinnsidenotout on 02/04/2008:
Cheers to you as well.....those 190's are so close. You MUST be proud of yourself....Keep it up!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/05/2008:
you are right...the weight you lost is probably a lot of fluid...and it's just understood that after being sick your weight might go back up to where it was when you resume your regular eating pattern. I wouldn't be concerned out all, unless of course you want to be perpetually sick! LOL. anyways, Your meals sound healthy and tasty!

Well, my weight is still dropping - unfortunetly im almost certain that im losing muscle, since I've spent the past four days at home, recovering from this awful sickness. regardless, Im stoked to be my lightest ever along this journey - 215. Man, that means I've lost about 90 pounds since August 24, 2005.. .

Still waiting to feel better to excersize, today Im going to eat light again, I still don't have much of an appetite.

Progress as of today: 89.6 lbs lost so far, only 25.4 lbs to go!

mcwoo40 on 02/03/2008:
Well done on your weightloss what an achievement.Get well soon,Julie

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/03/2008:
my gosh that's amazing! I hope you feel better, it's good you can at least stay home and rest up!

mmuraro on 02/03/2008:
wow, congrats. that's huge! keep up, and these days that you're sick and not being able to exercise, try to eat more protein than carbs. Edamame, tofu... the 190 will come in no time!

CritterMom on 02/04/2008:
Hope you're feeling better soon! Hooray on the lightest weight so far!

Weight: 216.8

Still sick, I think I've got the flu - its moved from my throat to my chest . . . . I went and got some chloroseptic spray and tylenol, hopefully ill get better over the weekend. Fortunetly I don't have any gigs or teaching this weekend, so I can play it pretty low key, stay home, and just get better.

Anyway, I stepped on the scale and i was 216.8 This is the lowest I've seen over the three years.

I fixed oatmeal for breakfast and chicken noodle soup for lunch. I havent had a whole meal in 48 hours, I just ordered some pizza with the roomates, Im going to try and have a slice or two, maybe that will be help - getting some food in my stomach. The thought of eating salad makes me even sicker right now. . .

Okay, ill be back in the saddle next week when Im out of this. Im going to try and do strength tranining this month and really accellerate my weight loss through the next 25 pounds.

Progress as of today: 88.2 lbs lost so far, only 26.8 lbs to go!

mmuraro on 02/01/2008:
Hope you feel better, and lowest you've been in 3 years is pretty good! Enjoy!

Weight: 217.6

Yahoo!!! I exceeded my weigh-in goal, I was 217.6 this morning!!! Yaaaayyya! WhO's YoUr DaDdY!??!?!!?!

Unfortunetly though, Im very very sick right now, this throat thing has turned into a bad bad headache, chills, fever, and everything else. So today, Im going to eat some oatmeal and soup. and drink lots and lots of water. . .

Yesterday my diet was real slim, probably explains why my reading was so low. I might put on a pound or two once i get better, but thats alright. . . Hopefully this will pass by the weekend and Ill be back to normal next week with everything. Im so excited about seeing 217. Last may, I got down to 216 on the scale but then I put it all back on up through december and for some reason got to 230. Im confident now that I've broken the plateau, and that if I can get back into the groove next week, I might see 215- something I haven't yet on my 3-year long weight loss journey. . .

My goal in february, to get as close to 210 as possible at the end of the month.

Thanks for all the support, cheers, and 190 here I come!

Progress as of today: 87.4 lbs lost so far, only 27.6 lbs to go!

thinnsidenotout on 01/31/2008:
If the fever/chills keep up (more than 3 days), you might want to get a step-test (of which your symptoms are very common) at your Dr. office.. It is nothing to fool around with... I have had it more than once and it is no picnic! CONGRATULATIONS on your loss....Keep going this time!

Weight: 220.0

Today, i have fallen sick - my darn throat is killing me. . . so I took it easy on the excersize - 30 min around the park again

Diet was very consistant, besides one slip in the evening: Breakfast, oatmeal and water. Lunch: homemade chili w/garbanzo beans, black beans, red/yellow/green peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, ground pepper, and brown rice. A side of artichoke hearts (great for you, high in fiber) and water to drink. Snack: cashews and a granola bar. Later snack: diet pepsi and a hershey bar. Dinner: another bowl of the chili from lunch, a grapefruit and some almonds. More water to drink.

I haven't had soda in over two months, but I wanted to calm down my throat, and it did feel good. Man, it was weird having soda after not drinking it for so long! crazy. I also had some chocolate and that helped the throat as well, plus gave me a little buzz to get through lessons.

Weight in: 4 days

Im really wanting one of the homedics scales that gives you body composition, im very curious about my BF%, i can imagine its still over 20+.. .

Alright, while today was a little slow, im still on the track! 190 or bust.

Progress as of today: 85 lbs lost so far, only 30 lbs to go!

mmuraro on 01/29/2008:
Whoa, 85 lost! That's amazing. Congrats! As far as your throat, some hot herb tea with a spoon of honey can do wonders! Get better!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/30/2008:
the foods look wonderful, jazzie! Maybe the chocolate bar was the perfect medication for your throat! Sometimes you have to do what you have to do! :)

Feel better!

hollybelle on 01/30/2008:
Chocolate is great for sore throat. I thought I was only one who used that. Feel better soon. You are really chipping away at those pounds!

fritters on 01/30/2008:
Sorry you aren't feeling well. I just finished with the crud - not any fun!! Chocolate for a sore throat????? What a tasty cure. The down side - sugar knocks our your immune system. The Dr. has told me don't eat sugar when you are sick - it will take longer to get better. I personally think th is crazy!!!! You are doing such a good job with eating and exercise. Congratulations! Happy Wednesday

Alrighty, my apologies for not logging in the past couple of days - its been crazy, i've been very busy trying to find a new car and bandage together my current one, so i've literally spent hours and hours at my mechanic and at dealers and stuff, its not been that much fun.

I didn't get to work out last friday, sat, or sun, because i woke up at the crack of dawn to start working on this car problem i've been having. But I did manage to get a lot of walking done over the course of the weekend, so that counts. Plus, I stuck very well to my diet, no cheat meals - yay!

Today was great, I was definetly on the offense in terms of getting rid of my flabby belly. . .

Diet: Breakfast: Oatmeal, w/water. Snack: almonds and pineapple. Lunch: Tuna salad w/lettuce, light mayo, onions, and cashews, a side of baby broccoli, 1/2 cup of warmed lentil, and an apple plus more water. Dinner: slices of turkey breast, low fat trader j's yogurt, some more pineapple, and some broocoli and cauliflower - although, they didn't taste very good after being in my dinner pale after being heated up a couple hours before. More water of course, then after my run, I ate a nice 12oz cup of Chili w/ the usual peppers, red beans, and ground beef. Then yep, you guessed it, more water. aaahhh. . .

Excersize: 30 minutes walking in the morning around echo park lake. At night I ran in under an hour, 6.5 miles - so I was running a 9 1/2 minute mile most of the way - not bad for 49 degree weather and 6 mile/hr winds coming at you. . . it was freezing, but for some reason i was very energized. Perhaps it was the feeling of knowing Im winning in the game of weight loss, that kept me humming. . .

Weigh in- 5 days. . . goal is to be <220

Goals next few days - keep drinking more water, take Nalgene bottle with me filled in my car and drink it up between car trips. . . Continue to have vegetables be the center of ever meal besides breakfast. Avoid snacking on the granola bars, and go for the fruit, carrots, or almonds instead. Also, id like to include some sort of crunches and strength training back into my routine, i've noticed that I've seemed to get a little meager around my arms, compared to last spring when I was at the Y every day. Id also like to research where the affordable gyms are in my neighborhood, and also where I can find one with a pool. Id love to start swimming again, i miss the pool a bunch. . .

190 is only 30 good choices away!

Progress as of today: 85 lbs lost so far, only 30 lbs to go!

CritterMom on 01/29/2008:
I'm impressed with that run around the lake! Good for you! The food choices sound great, too.

Weight: 220.8

It rained harder today, and I decided it was a good idea to take a break from running just for the day. Diet wise, I've been running out of options here at the house so I had to eat out at breakfast while my car was getting fixed, and at dinner. Plus at lunch, I decided to have some white rice, which I guss I should be staying away from, but nonetheless it felt good to change it up a bit from the brown rice. So yes, I made the choice to have a couple cheat meals, but I figure I can have one or two of those a week. On a good note, when I arrived home, my roomates had ordered pizza, and it looked sooooo good. But I turned it resisted their offer to share, and now this morning im glad I did so!

Exercise: off day

Diet: breakfast: low fat blueberry muffin and small hot chocolate with water. Lunch: trader joe's spring onion soup and white rice w/water. snack: grapefruit. Dinner: @ wendy's: small chili w/no cheese or crackers, a spicy chicken sandwhich w/no may and one junior bacon cheese burger w/no mayo, and instead of having soda I Had water.

So In retrospect, even though yesterday wasn't perfect, and today wiill probably be similar because I can't get to the grocery store until tommorrow, I still made healthier choices. Instead of having 2 big bacon classic burgers at wendys, i had a chicken sand and small burger. Plus I ordered them without mayo, had water instead of soda, and opted for the high protein low fat option of chili over the waistline killer french fries that we all love so much. . . At starbucks, I opted for no coffee, just a sugary drink, but instead of getting 2 slices of coffee cake, as I would in my 300+ days, I had one of the low fat blueberry muffins (which I know aren't really that great for me, but still)

So im going to reflect on the positive choices I made today which are still contributing to my weight loss.

weigh in: not for 9 more days. . ..

Its sill raining here in LA, and this weekend, im going to the YMCA to see If I can join. I thiink the next step for me is starting a weights routine.

Progress as of today: 84.2 lbs lost so far, only 30.8 lbs to go!

Weight: 220.8

Today it poured here in LA.

And I ran anyways, a whole 10K again at the beach. And also, a small 2 miler this morning. Tonight, I was the only one out there, all the way from hermosa to el porto. It felt great to run with the strength of my goals behind me. . .

Diet: Breakfast: Oatmeal. Lunch: Brown rice, lentils, and baby broccoli. snack, tangerine. Evening meal: more lentils. Late evening meal after run: small (palm sized) portion of steak, sea bass, white rice, grilled peppers, and salad. I drank about 80 to 100 oz of water, a little under.

I decided to have a little white rice with my roomates tonight, man it sure tasted great. . . so did the meat, it was all good. Glad im living with friends who also like to cook relatively healthy.

I stepped on the scale today, a bit premature, but I needed some good news after a pretty rough day with a few other things. And the result? About 220.8, slightly over my goal of being <220 at the next read. But its all good, this week I lost 2 pounds and since Jan 4, I've lost over 10 pounds!!

190 Here i come

Progress as of today: 84.2 lbs lost so far, only 30.8 lbs to go!

jazzstorie - Tuesday Jan 22, 2008

Weight: 222.0

Well, today was average at best. I had the usual breakfast and a great lunch, but dinner left me with few options as Im starting to run out of food around here in the house. . . Im trying to wait until the weekend to go grocery shopping after I get some checks in the mail. . . you know, im a musician. . .haha. I was also pretty unproductive today in my practicing, but I had a good rehearsal this afternoon. Im going to try and muster up the energy and inspiration to compose tonight. I also had a great talk today with the man who was a record executive at Warner Bros. Records for 25 years, and he showed my group's new album this week to Randy Newman, who loved it! Things are looking good there and Im excited to see what doors are going to open in the coming months with this contact. . .

But anyways, I was a bit sluggish on my run this morning, it was pretty cold here in LA, and a bit wet outside. Im sure the energy lapse had a lot to do with my long run last night, and I felt stiff as a board. ugh.

Breakfast: Oatmeal and water. Lunch (my best meal of the day) Tuna w/low fat mayo, almonds, walnuts, cranberries, a little bleu cheese, lettuce and spinach. A side of baby broccoli and water to finish. Snack: 2 low fat granola bars and some dark chocolate. Dinner: Vegetable Lasagna and 2 chicken tamales with salsa. water of course.

The veggie lasagna had a whopping 10g of sat fat and the tamales had 500 cals and 5g of sat fat. That combined with the sat fat in the dark chocolate and, well, you get the point. Plus, i should not be eating pasta right now. Also, I should have only had one granola bar, but I was still hungry after the first and Im out of popcorn, fruit, and other snack items. And to make matters worse, after eating the lasagna, i had planned on stopping there, but I was still hungry. So I went for the last frozen food items in the fridge, the tamales.

After eating the dinner tonight, I realize that the cleaner foods, beans, brown rice, lentils, and other items really help me actually feel full longer. The frozen foods that are easy to prepare and high in fat and cals, like the lasagna, are simply not enough to keep me full. This dish had been in my fridge for a while, not sure why I bought it in the first place, but i guess the fact that its "veggie" and from trader joe's made me think it was okay. . .

Alright tommorrow is a new day, I have enough good stuff to get through the week, and Im going to run tommorrow another 10K at the beach. I was very tempted to step on the scale today, but I decided to wait until friday. My hope is that ill be <220.

I hope its not raining tomorrow for my run, its supposed to start sometime in the evening. . . . oh well, rain or not, ill still run.

Thanks for all the help and comments! See you guys at the finish line!

Progress as of today: 83 lbs lost so far, only 32 lbs to go!

workingit2 on 01/23/2008:
Have a nice day!

hollybelle on 01/23/2008:
My day yesterday was not that good, either for some of the same reasons you said yours wasn't. But it looks like you stayed in the game by recapping what you could have, should have done and that will pay off in the future. Exciting professional news you received, too. I sometimes overeat when I am excited about good news, but I must say - it's just unfair they make a healthy sounding dish like vegetable lasagne with so much saturated fat! What a rip off. Many wishes for continued success on all fronts.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/23/2008:
i agree! I find cleaner foods keeping me more satisfied too. or, foods that are not very processed, seasoned, salted always make me crave more foods later in the day!

Today has been great. I have discovered that its better for me to have something to eat before my morning excersize. Today, I had my oatmeal and two glasses of water, then waited 30 minutes, and then I had the energy to run for 25 minutes in the rain, up and down the hills in my neighborhood. So Im going to do that from now on, and i think Ill be happier. While I may not directly be burning as much fat during the excersize, Ill have a better workout to set me up to burn throughout the day!

Also, had a funny cooking disaster today. I fixed a lunch and dinner portion of my beans and rice dish I've been eating. When I got to my teaching studio I put the dinner into the toster oven, I guess those little plastic dishes don't fare well in there - mine melted all over, pretty cool! My meal was still salvagable thank goodness :-)

Today:

Breakfast: Oatmeal w/ 2 glasses water. Snack : sorta cheated, I nibbled on 3 small molasses crackers w/chocolate on them . . .. omg, so good. Lunch: Black Beans, Brown Rice, green/red/yellow peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, and turkey breast - all put into a chili - really tasty. A side of corn and a tangerine topped of lunch with more water. Dinner: The rest of the chili from lunch, 2 tangerines, and I have yet to eat the almonds and low fat yogurt I packed. Ill munch on that between my lessons tonight.

Excersize: 25 minutes running this morning, and the plan is to run tonight here at the beach - it looks like it might rain out, but Im going for it anyway because ------

190 or BUST! hahah

congrats on the date =) I know I can't workout without eating a little something about half an hour before. Keep up the great work!

want2be_happy on 01/22/2008:
I support the eat-before-you-exercise routine! I used to go without, but I find I can work out for longer if I have breakfast beforehand. I usually eat an hour before getting to the gym, which means I have to get up ridiculously early but it gets me started on my day, so it's all good.
