legcramps - Friday May 02, 2014

Went to physiotherapy yesterday; we both feel it's a good time to attempt an outside jog, so i've picked a spot where there is a soft trail and I will try walking/jogging on it sometime in the next week before my next physio appointment. I can't wait!!!

After physio it looked like it was going to rain, so I changed quickly and headed out on the bike for a ride. I made it 9.5 kilometers (a little less than 6 miles) in half an hour and was knackered so I called it a day. Went home and stretched out, and did some yoga. I also tried some Ease of Movement stretching that my physiotherapist showed me.

I have so many more things to focus on after that last physio appointment, I had to get her to write it all down for me. There's lots of new stretching, moving, kneeling exercises to do, along with attempting a slow jog. It will be a busy week in terms of my physiotherapy needs!

I am looking forward to spending the evening at home tonight; the weekend should be fairly busy with yoga, a birthday party out of town, and some bike riding. I'm sure Monday will come faster than we'd all like it to ;)

I've been a little stiff after my 'marathon' 1 hour walk the other day. Yesterday all I could manage was a 45 minute bike ride, some stretching, and a few downward dogs for good measure. I guess that's actually pretty good for 'all I could manage'.

Last night I weighed myself and was not happy with the number, but I am trying to see it from other points of view. Man, my calves are TONED. I really like that! And my waist is so defined! True, I have some belly that still needs to be sweated off, but my waist line is definitely getting smaller. Also, my upper back and shoulder muscles are out of this world, just from a month of yoga classes and the bike riding. So there are lots of things to celebrate aside from weight loss :) and I am going to focus on them instead.

I have physiotherapy today after work; I hope she does some more myo-fascial stuff because I can tell my shins need it.

So after work yesterday, a friend messaged to see if I wanted to go for a walk outside. This would be my second attempt at outside walking. I was going to say street walking, but that would be bad.

I wore the runners that I use when i'm on the treadmill, and gave it an honest effort. It went well! We took it slow and made our way back to the start after about 20 minutes. Success :)

When I got home I was starving, so I hoovered down my supper (which has been soooo boring because i've been eating the same thing for at least a month now, but delicious - chicken, rice, carrots and broccoli) and sat on the couch for a bit.

Then I got restless. I've been wanting to know how long I could walk on the treadmill without having any issues arise. I was going to try and be patient until the weekend, when i'd have lots of time to give it a try, but I just couldn't wait anymore. So I cleaned up my runners as best I could, and got on the treadmill to see how far I could go.

My treadmill automatically stopped after 60 minutes, so then I decided to do an endurance challenge for another 15 minutes. It was tough, but once I completed it I felt pretty good and only had to ice my achilles - that means NO SHIN PAIN! 1 hour and 35 minutes of walking, and NO SHIN PAIN!

I think the contemplation of jogging might come sooner than I think :)

This is a taste of what happened after I got home from work yesterday. It started snowing and just. wouldn't. stop.

It's 3 degrees celsius this morning, so the snow won't last long, but I know my sump pumps are working hard because they kept me awake for part of the night. Which means there's lotsa water 'round here.

Stretched, kneeled for a minute, and walked for 35 minutes yesterday. I really want to try jogging, but am forcing myself to calm down and be smart about my next steps. My stomach muscles have been hurting in a strange, not good way lately too, so i'm trying to monitor that to find out what's going on. Note to self: NEVER google stomach problems. I now believe I have a hernia and am picturing my intestines pushing their way into the lining of my stomach. O.M.F.G.

Happy Monday!

Friday - stretch, kneel, heel raises, walk 35 minutes

Saturday - stretch, heel raises, walk 35 minutes; massage, housework, and dinner out with friends

Sunday - stretch, heel raises, walk 35 minutes; groceries, prep food for workweek, watch movies ;)

I tried hard to watch what I ate over the weekend, and I think I did well. After my massage on Saturday morning, I made it my mission to drink ALL THE WATER. My muscles thanked me, but I was in and out of the bathroom all weekend.

I was too scared to try walking outside; it's been raining anyways and guess what? this morning I woke up to SNOW. There is so much that I want to say that I can't.

SNOW??? What!! Where are you that it's snowing!!!

legcramps on 04/28/2014:
lol Canadian prairies. it's awesome.

Aaahh ok a bit north of me! I was going to say it's a bit chilly here but not that cold!

Did my walking, stretching, and downward dogging yesterday ;)

I can't stop sneezing this morning at work. Ok, now that i've said that out loud, i've stopped sneezing. Wish All The Things worked that way.

I don't have much planned for the weekend; after my massage on Saturday, i'm hoping i'll feel a lot better. I want to visit my godson, go biking, and maybe try another outside walk (this time on gravel roads). It should be a quiet weekend!

I gave myself a rest day yesterday, so I don't have much to tell. I worked, I ate less than usual because I knew I wasn't working out, I slept a lot, and I finished a book I was reading.

It was awesome.

But back to the grind today! Walking, stretching, and downward dogs are gonna be happening in my near future. Plus some more errands because I was obvs tired yesterday and forgot to do many things like go to the bank and also get a bit more groceries.

I can't wait until my massage appointment on Saturday; there must be a pinched nerve somewhere and it's causing my whole left shoulder to hurt like the dickens. I've been using a tennis ball on it like mad for the last week, but i'm pretty sure only experienced hands can fix this one.

Holy my body hurts.

There are some neck and shoulders muscles that are sore to the touch.

Tried to bike yesterday; made it half an hour in and then called it a day - wow, even my "sit" bones are killing me!

So... i've got some major DOMS happening in my neck and shoulder, and pain in my bum. Awesome. I drank almost four litres of water yesterday cause I thought that might help. It didn't. Just saying.

However, I noticed this morning in the mirror that my upper body is starting to become defined once again! I think it's from all the downward dogs that i'm doing. AND my calves are really toned; even my physiotherapist has noticed and commented on it.

I am feeling sore today, which I kind of like (is that wierd?), but more so than that I am feeling incredibly GRATEFUL that I am where I am and that I didn't give up on myself. Life would be pretty awful right now if I had continued to feel sorry for myself and parked my butt on the couch for all of eternity.

Horn_of_plenty on 04/24/2014:
Yeah it's true - never, ever give up :) happy for you!

Hope everyone's weekend was fabulous :)

Wednesday - physiotherapy, supper out for Grandma's b-day, hockey game; exercise was recumbant bike and physio

Thursday - late nights make for early mornings! got through work, did my stretching and walking, and practised yoga.

Friday - stretching, walking, and more yoga; went to Grandma's for Good Friday; dessert was pumpkin pie :)

Saturday - yoga class in the afternoon, got groceries, had company, went to an Easter dance. lots of dancing! lots of it!

Sunday - ouch! everything hurts! too much dancing! still managed to stretch and walk for my standard 35 minutes - stepped up another 5 minute interval so now i'm doing 10 minutes at a faster pace; went to Grandma's for supper. This time it was apple slices for dessert.

Monday - watched the Boston Marathon and became increasingly restless (really I just wanted to push out a 26.2 mile marathon too), so I called up a friend and went biking for an hour; stretches, kneeling and back arches (yoga). Did my cooking for the week.

It was lovely to have so much time off work. I am going to be extra tired this week because i've had so much time off!

sounds like a great week!
