legcramps - Wednesday Apr 23, 2014

Holy my body hurts.

There are some neck and shoulders muscles that are sore to the touch.

Tried to bike yesterday; made it half an hour in and then called it a day - wow, even my "sit" bones are killing me!

So... i've got some major DOMS happening in my neck and shoulder, and pain in my bum. Awesome. I drank almost four litres of water yesterday cause I thought that might help. It didn't. Just saying.

However, I noticed this morning in the mirror that my upper body is starting to become defined once again! I think it's from all the downward dogs that i'm doing. AND my calves are really toned; even my physiotherapist has noticed and commented on it.

I am feeling sore today, which I kind of like (is that wierd?), but more so than that I am feeling incredibly GRATEFUL that I am where I am and that I didn't give up on myself. Life would be pretty awful right now if I had continued to feel sorry for myself and parked my butt on the couch for all of eternity.

Horn_of_plenty on 04/24/2014:
Yeah it's true - never, ever give up :) happy for you!

Hope everyone's weekend was fabulous :)

Wednesday - physiotherapy, supper out for Grandma's b-day, hockey game; exercise was recumbant bike and physio

Thursday - late nights make for early mornings! got through work, did my stretching and walking, and practised yoga.

Friday - stretching, walking, and more yoga; went to Grandma's for Good Friday; dessert was pumpkin pie :)

Saturday - yoga class in the afternoon, got groceries, had company, went to an Easter dance. lots of dancing! lots of it!

Sunday - ouch! everything hurts! too much dancing! still managed to stretch and walk for my standard 35 minutes - stepped up another 5 minute interval so now i'm doing 10 minutes at a faster pace; went to Grandma's for supper. This time it was apple slices for dessert.

Monday - watched the Boston Marathon and became increasingly restless (really I just wanted to push out a 26.2 mile marathon too), so I called up a friend and went biking for an hour; stretches, kneeling and back arches (yoga). Did my cooking for the week.

It was lovely to have so much time off work. I am going to be extra tired this week because i've had so much time off!

sounds like a great week!

Tuesday:

Physio - heel lifts, kneeling, stretching

Yoga - back arches

Workout - treadmill 35 minutes

Also went to Grandma's for a visit, and took the afternoon off work - it seemed like I needed some time off, so I took advantage of the slower work day.

Wednesday Plan:

Physio appointment after work, do heel lifts during the day

Grandma's b-day dinner after physio; I think I will get chicken fingers and a stuffed potato

Hockey game after dinner, so probably no other workout today aside from physio.

Monday - Heel lifts, stretching, treadmill 35 minutes and practiced my downward dog x 10. If I keep doing downward dogs every night, my shoulders should be ripped in mere weeks   Downward dogs are like the superman of pushups or something.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of candy and chocolate at work right now, I think because we're leading up to Easter. I must also admit that I myself have brought a good amount of it. Yesterday I had way too many pieces of candy and chocolate. If I don't watch myself, I will have to suffer through a chocolate withdrawal in the near future!

I thought the weekend would help me to rest and rejuvenate, but after work yesterday, I went home feeling completely spent. Maybe i've been spoiling myself lately with all the time off work. Or maybe I just need a weekend to myself, a getaway or something. Too bad I live in a place where you can't just pick up and go off for a couple days. In fact, it would take a couple of days just to get to where I was going.

Alright, enough feeling mopey! Let's get on with this week. The faster it moves, the closer we get to summer

Good Morning!

Friday - Went out for supper; treadmill 35 minutes, heel lifts, kneeling and stretching. Went a little faster on the treadmill - knees seemed to handle it fine.

Saturday - Hockey game; yoga, heel lifts. Yoga was intense and wonderful. Lost the hockey game :( but I got even more exercise pacing back and forth while watching ;)

Sunday - Ran errands and did my cooking for the week; treadmill 35 minutes, heel lifts and stretching. Even faster on the treadmill, felt good but achilles was acting up toward the end. Wrapped my left foot and right achilles tendon. Don't know if I wrapped it correctly, so will have to ask my therapist when I see her on Wednesday.

Noticed my left toes go numb when I walk. I looked it up, and I don't think it's my shoes so I might be curling my toes down when I walk. I'll have to be conscious of this next time.

Monday Plan - Evening meeting (what a way to start the week!); heel lifts, either treadmill or bike if the weather's nice, stretching, kneeling and gotta get back to foam rolling. I also want to practice my downward dog :)

Grrr. I got myself into a bad mood yesterday, and I can't seem to get rid of it!

It started at work in the morning with an event that just exhausted me for whatever reason. Then I went home after work and did my half hour on the treadmill and some stretching. Then I went back to work for an evening meeting, but not before taking a phone call from Mom with regards to some family conflict, which made me late for the meeting.

The meeting was quick, but I walked out of there even more frustrated than i'd been before.

After the meeting, I rushed over to the rink to get tickets for a hockey game on Saturday; was unimpressed with the way they organized everything and with the long line ups; and got out of there after about 45 minutes of waiting for tickets I didn't even end up getting :(

When I got home again, I called certain family members and hashed things out. Why I am ALWAYS the freakin' middleman, I don't know. Then I went to Mom's to talk to her and pick up a package that came from my brother for Easter, which was incredibly thoughtful and sort of made my day although it didn't make me less upset about everything else!

So my disappointment rolled over into today, and when I had been at work for about an hour, I realized I missed a phone call from a friend early this morning. When I called her back, they told me that their dog had passed away last night from a heart attack. I dog-sat a few times and knew this dog wasn't doing so well, but I didn't realize she was so close to a heart attack. So that was shocking.

I am really just ready for this week to be over. I am going to sit with my friend for a bit after work today, then try to de-stress with another friend over dinner. After that, if I still have energy to do a workout, I will, but it is not the priority today. And I am just not in the mood to argue with myself.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/13/2014:
awwww feel better legcramps!!! sorry to hear of the loss of your friend's dog and all the conflicts & not getting the tickets you wanted!! :(

I hope this weekend makes up for some of the craziness of the week!...gonna catch up on some of your past entries now, but it seems that your legs are doing a lil better which is great!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/13/2014:
I love your new boots, too! and congrats on the 4 lb loss since February that is great! I would love an even 2 lb loss these days. like you, with decreased cardio, it is not so easy anymore to lose weight quickly. the weight just seems to stick with me...

I went for a walk outside on Monday after work, feeling like it would be a really good thing to try, since I haven't really "gone for a walk" outside aside from quick ten minute walks here and there.

It didn't go well. In just ten minutes, my shin pain flared up in my right leg, and then because I was ten minutes from home, by the time I managed to hobble home, shin pain flared up in my left leg as well. I sat for half an hour on the couch afterwards, alternating ice from shin to shin.

Yesterday I went for a 30 minute bike ride, which was fine except that my knees had been acting up all day at work, so I was really trying to not push and yet - I really wanted to push it, to feel like I was working out and actually doing something. It was a good ride, and when I got home I made sure to stretch out right away, and foam roll. My foam rolling technique might be getting slightly better.

Today's plan is the treadmill, and i'm sticking to this - no more outside walks again for awhile.

NEW SHOES! I am a shoe fanatic, and I found these Brekelle's online a few weeks ago. They came yesterday and i'm wearing them to work today - love 'em!

liza36 on 04/10/2014:
I remember when I was in physical therapy for my back, they recommended only walking on the treadmill, not outside, because if I had to stop, I could just hop off the treadmill versus having to turn around outside and having another distance to walk. So...good idea to stick to the treadmill for now. But I understand wanting to be outside. Warmer weather is so intoxicating after a long, cold winter. Love the shoes, by the way!

Great weekend

1. Yoga - Third attempt; kept it simple and this time no bruising or knee pain.

2. Foam rolling, heel lifts, stretching, more foam rolling, more heel lifts, etc. Feels like this is all i'm doing these days. Right now I suck at foam rolling, but i'm stubborn so I keep doing it.

3. Fundraiser BBQ!

4. Supper out with my bestie and my godson!

5. Cycling - Ahhhh! This was AWESOME! Extra exclamation point! 15 minutes and about 5k (or 3 miles). I was huffing and puffing and it felt SO GREAT.

6. Shopping! I bought some socks and an allan wrench for my bike

Today I think will be a treadmill day. I may try to increase my pace. Or, if my achilles is bothering me, I may just hold back and take it easy. And do more foam rolling.

I am back from my week of holidays from work, and I had such a relaxing and good time away! I was sad to come back to work, but i'm making it through ;)

Quick summary of how i've been doing:

1. I am up to walking for 35 minutes on the treadmill, which is an AWESOME accomplishment so far. This is a good length of time walking, so after a week or so of this i'll try increasing my pace instead of increasing length of time.

2. Shin pain only once in the last two weeks. Another AWESOME accomplishment. I am thinking about making extra massage appointments outside of therapy for myofascial release.

3. I started yoga classes; i've gone to two so far and am debating backing out of this class. The last time I went, I came home with bruises all over my knee (??), my INJURED knee, which the physiotherapist did not think was cool. Not awesome. I guess you shouldn't be twisting and pulling on a torn MCL, huh? I also managed to strain the achilles tendon on my right leg. Gawd, I am SO AMAZING.

4. I bought myself a bike last week and will hopefully begin cycling as soon as the weather warms up a bit more. Starting with maybe 15 minutes. We'll see how that goes and hopefully work up from there. I would really like to bike back and forth to work in the summer.

5. I've lost pounds since mid-February. AWESOME. My eating is finally curbed, and i'm keeping a journal of foods eaten each day, which helps me tremendously to figure out if i'm really hungry or if i'm just bored / emotional / thirsty etc. I don't gauge progress by the scale, but I know i'm doing well because my pants are fitting better and I just have a general feeling of wellbeing.

What a fun positive entry!!! I'm so glad you are doing well! Just stopped by to say Hey! I hope you enjoy your bike riding. I still do. The wedding is over and we are still riding!
