We are almost at the "kick me while I'm down" phase of the rollercoaster of life.

Don't get me wrong, still in a good mood. However, I wasn't yesterday evening. Nope.

I got on the treadmill to get my 30 minute walk in, and after 5 minutes the damn thing just. stopped. moving.

How frustrating! I was so disappointed and worked up about it, I tried for almost half an hour to get it going again. It didn't. And then that sort of ruined the rest of my night, in that I didn't want to workout At All. Forgetaboutit.

In the interest of full disclosure, I don't even remember what I did last night. I think I saw red for a good part of whatever it was, though.

Plan for today:

Food - mocha, oatmeal, rice, peas, beef& onion dish, hummus & crackers, soup & toast.

Exercise - I brought a change of clothes and my runners (the old ones), and I'll be stopping in at the walking track after work to get the 30 minutes in that I didn't yesterday.

Other - due to some over-lapped irritability, I foresee an early bedtime in my future.

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 11.5 lbs to go!

Wonder if the treadmill is repairable? I remember WorkingIt/WII on here got parts for hers once upon a time and it was in fine shape after that.

Yep I did get the parts from Treadmilldoctor.com and fixed my belt and cap issue. It cost me under $150 and was well worth it! I had to ask for a couple guys to help me install it because I am not mechanically inclined, but they were able to fix it and it is still in use today! Thoughts are with you!

I am so the same way. One time I went to do a pilates class and when I got there it was canceled. I was FUMING! I think I got on the bike for five minutes and went to Wendy's and bought a frosty. I am better about those things now but it is difficult when you don't get what you want.

Well, there had to be a crack in the armour at some point...

I had some shin pain yesterday while I was doing my treadmill walk. I managed to get to 28 minutes, but I'd had to stop many times to rest my shins, so it wasn't a great workout. Because I felt like I hadn't done enough, I did some core exercises about an hour later.

I think part of the reason might be my runners. They felt tight with my compression socks on. For the last few minutes of the walk, I switched my runners to an old pair (that is the correct size), and it felt much better - though the damage had already been done. So from now on, I'll be using the old pair to walk in, and looking for a proper sized pair for running. Too bad it only took me a year to figure that out, although it probably isn't the entire reason for my shin pain.

Well, even though I did nothing yesterday to upset me on the scale, there was a slight gain so no new low for me today! I am ok with that; the scale is not my biggest motivator. It is certainly not the most compassionate.

Plan for today:

Mocha, oatmeal for breakfast

Macaroni, feta, spinach for lunch

Hummus and crackers for snack

Open-faced beef burger, feta, spinach, and brussel sprouts (maybe rice) for dinner

Ice cream and strawberries for snack

Exercise is walking on treadmill and core work.

I may have another mocha, and some tea throughout the day. Gotta get that water in!

Progress as of today: 8.5 lbs lost so far, only 11.5 lbs to go!

Dang I hate shin splints! Hope that gets better. Good suggestions about making sure you have the right shoes and they are in good shape to absorb shock. Also wall heel stretches will help. The toe pressing up toward the shin releives the pull. I had them years ago when I ran, lots of ibuprohen helped, too. Good luck. I have noticed you have had that kind of pain quite awhile .

Yesterday I did a pilates workout. Well, the fact of the matter is that I did only part of a pilates workout. Holy abdominal pain, Batman. I spent the rest of the workout eyeing the tv set with what I'd hoped were shooting daggers.

Another challenge I am ready to take on.

I got pretty lazy afterwards and watched movies all night. One was based on the true story of a woman who moved from Columbia to New York with her husband and two children. Weeks later, the husband left the family and she had to do various things to provide for her children. Don't judge but I can't remember the title of the movie; however, it was pretty heartbreaking.

My eating has been spot on for a good two weeks now; journalling everything I eat and counting calories each day is working well for me right now. I know this isn't something that I would want to do all the time, but I think for now I have to.

Plan for today:

Mocha, oatmeal (with pb, strawberries and chocolate) for breakfast

Macaroni with feta cheese and spinach for lunch

Homemade hummus with wheat crackers for snack

Leftover turkey patty on whole wheat, side of vegetables for dinner

Exercise is walking for 30 minutes

I don't have anything else I absolutely need to do, so my plan is to clean up the kitchen and wash the floor in there. I have a bad habit of cleaning the countertop by pushing all the crumbs over the edge, to the floor. It used to benefit my dog greatly, but unfortunately she is no longer there to keep things spotless for me ;) so I have to clean it up myself.

I also think a second workout may be in order, as it is the end of the month and I'd like to weigh in tomorrow at a new low for the year. We'll see how I'm feeling after the walk!

legcramps - Monday Jan 30, 2012

A chest cold snuck up on me this weekend, so I've been trying to fight that off with orange juice and throat lozenges. So far, it isn't really working very well. But really, two colds in one month? Really?

I still did my walking session on Saturday though. And... drum roll please... I ran for the last three minutes of the session. It felt great after suffering for so long! I could have gone a lot longer too, but I didn't want to push it.

We went to the hockey game on Saturday, but afterwards no one wanted to go out so we went to my place for a bit instead. I woke up late on Sunday and yet this day still has the highest calories of the week. Wierd.

I signed up yesterday for a one-month free trial of Netflix. I can't believe how little amount of tv shows they have to offer. Lots of movies, but hardly any tv shows - or ones that I would watch, anyways. Anyone else have this service? Do you like it?

Wallyball was good yesterday; I finally wasn't tomato red in the face at the end of it. Of course, I didn't jump around like a fool or anything either. Sometimes it's best just to hit the ball when it's hit to you. It was still a great workout, though I tweaked my left knee once again and I had to ice it last night.

Today's plan:

Food - mocha, cafeteria item for breakfast, cafeteria sandwich, hummus and crackers, dinner tbd. Possibly macaroni and feta cheese. Maybe I should pick up a few groceries. Milk, spinach, more brussel sprouts.

Exercise - today is for cross training.

Other - groceries.

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

legcramps - Saturday Jan 28, 2012

Finally back to losing again! Wow, that took a long enough time ;)

Sushi was wonderful yesterday, but I must've eaten something that didn't agree with me as I was fighting nausea most of the night. Or maybe I had too many different things and should have taken it slower seeing as I hadn't been for sushi in so long. I opted out of the deep fried ice cream as I was too full by the end of the meal - wow, never thought i'd refuse deep fried ice cream.

I did my Dance It Off DVD yesterday before dinner. This time I made it to 28 minutes before my shins told me it was time to stop. Good - 6 or 7 mins longer than the first time! Next dance steps to learn is Jazz. That should be interesting. I was in jazz dance classes a long time ago, but I doubt they will be similar, too bad.

This morning - I mean, for lunch - I am having toast with eggs and feta cheese, and a warm mocha. I think I will lay back for a bit and then get on the treadmill for my walking routine.

Tonight was asked to go to a hockey game, and then out to a new night club. My social skills have dwindled to nothing, but I guess now is as good a time as any to start working on that again.

legcramps - Friday Jan 27, 2012

It was really hard to take a rest day yesterday. I didn't want to lose my motivation, but I also didn't want to risk the opportunity for injury by working out at such extremes after not doing anything for so long. I was so restless! Every so often, I'd jump up from the living room and go do something. I cleaned some dusty surfaces, washed dishes twice, went through paperwork, got my food ready for today. I eventually wound up going to bed early so that I wouldn't raid the fridge. I did have some ice cream with strawberries though before I could stop myself. My calories for the day were around 1,800. A bit high, especially without any exercise. There will be days like this. Good thing I went to bed when I did ;)

I'm going for sushi today. Sushi today. Sushi today!! I'm excited.

Plan for today:

Food - mocha, oatmeal, pb & honey sandwich, sushi. And by sushi I also mean a deep fried ice cream ball. Just one, okay?

Exercise - walking on treadmill 30 minutes.

Other - good times with friends. I need me some friend time.

 My oatmeal. Yum.

This Happiness Wagon just keeps rolling along... I really can't believe it, but I'm so glad I'm back in that place again. You know, the place where you realize you have everything you need to lead a healthy life... motivation, determination, consistency, and will. I love it when life comes together like this.

I tried making pull apart bbq chicken in my slow cooker yesterday, but looks like I can't do that unless I have a lot more chicken to cook. By the time I got home from work, I was going to have to look forward to blackened chicken, and not the good kind. But I sucked it up, because I can't waste food. There's no part of my budget that says "Money Lost on Wasted Food". So I ate it. It actually didn't taste as bad as it looked ;)

And then, after cleaning up the kitchen, I got on the treadmill for 20 minutes of walking. It felt good, I wasn't in any major pain... success!

Then I decided I wanted to try a core fitness session taking place at our multi-center. The first class was free, so a co-worker and I decided to try it out. It was sort of like bootcamp. Yeah. Remember when I said never again to bootcamp? So I figure, since core work is so important, I would try to do some of the moves at home instead, or with my co-worker, using DVDs or just the moves we learned last night. Nice and free. I like that. And not 45 minutes long. Because that's just crazy.

I'm feeling some eye strain this morning, may not have gotten enough sleep last night as I remember tossing and turning quite a bit. But still! Happy! Can't beat that.

Plan for today:

Food - mocha, oatmeal, pb sandwich, tea, chicken with rice and brussel sprouts, snack? maybe cereal.

Exercise - it's a Rest Day today. I need to rest, but I don't feel like it. Must follow the rules though.

Other - I have some paperwork I should get at.

Yay for the happiness wagon! Glad your chicken was salvagable! I once put something in the crockpot & came home to find a big old, dried up, burnt to a crisp mess.... took DAYS of soaking to get the thing clean again!

I did quite a bit of tossing and turning last night, too. I think it has to do with lower calories during the day. When a eat a lot, I also sleep well. One can never win! I'm so glad that you are in the groove again. I feel I'm getting there, too. HAPPY to read your entry!

My entire day yesterday was really pretty awesome, knock on wood.

I had a slow but good day at work, I went home and got my walking in on the treadmill (the treadmill did not die, just FYI), I made a healthy dinner (cod and brown rice with cooked vegetables), and I had lots of time left over to do with what I pleased, even after cleaning up the kitchen and the living room. Crazy wonderful day! My calories for the day are the lowest they've been since I was sick on January 5th!

I used my spare time to watch the first two episodes of Season Two Being Human, and catch up on Once Upon A Time. And then I went to bed. At 8:30pm. With compression socks on.

I also got an update from Dad. Remember when I said gosh I'm happy yesterday? So was he. He said it felt like he was given a new lease on life yesterday. I wonder if we feed off each other's emotions, even though we're so far apart? At any rate, I sure am happy again today. Just saying.

This morning I woke up at my regular time, 6:30am, and noticed that my socks were on the floor. How I managed to take off compression socks without waking up, I'll never know! So I got a whopping ten hours of sleep (or thereabouts).

Plan for today:

Food - mocha, oatmeal, pb & jam sandwich, pulled bbq chicken open faced sandwiches with brussel sprouts, one last apple croissant, some ice cream.

Exercise - walk on treadmill, 30 minutes. Wear compression socks. Ice afterwards. Might as well get into the habit of doing this now.

Other - I was feeling like I had tons of energy last night. If tonight's the same, I'd like to do a core training session. No cardio other than walking, I don't need to push my luck, but maybe pushups or an ab routine, or even a yoga DVD.

Damn, I rock at cooking. Rachel Ray, sign me up for your show. Serious.

Well, maybe not entirely serious. My first-time dumpling making skills could use some perfecting.

I had more calories than I wanted to yesterday, but the dinner I made was worth every single one of 'em. Soft dumplings, mushroom gravy, caramelized onions... I can't go on for fear of drooling all over my keyboard and eating the leftovers for breakfast!

However, I didn't realize how much work goes into big meals like this. There wasn't even a sliver of a chance to get a workout in. Slaving over the stove, cleaning all the pots and pans I used, setting the table and getting dessert ready (apple croissants with lite vanilla ice cream). I don't have any desire to do that again for at least a month or more.

Gosh, I'm happy today. I guess I need to eat dumplings on a regular daily basis ;) Kidding!

I finally got groceries yesterday, and I was probably the most cheerful person in there because I was so excited to have some variation in the house again!

And, even more importantly, I have a dinner date with friends on Friday night for SUSHI! I look forward to sushi almost as much as I would a first date ;)

So tonight the plan is to make up for not working out yesterday by doing my walking today after work. And then I might have a Being Human tv show marathon.

You are especially happy and I am happy for you! I love cooking for company when I'm in the mood - which is almost all the time. Sounds like last night was a success! I am going to try to squeeze in a walk at lunch. I used to do this regularly and I think I can do it again since we are having such mild weather this winter!

legcramps - Monday Jan 23, 2012

I completed my Operation $5 Budget successfully, but really a lot of that had to do with the fact that Grandma fed me.

I managed to walk to Grandma's which was actually only a 12 minute walk, so in total I walked for 24 minutes on Saturday. Considering the time, my shins were acting up a bit so I'm glad I didn't push that just to reach a magic half hour mark. 

Breakfast at Grandma's was rye toast with peanut butter, so nothing fancy. She made pancakes, but my belly just wasn't into it. Lunch was good; ribs, potatos and a cabbage roll. Since my cousin's son's (got that?) birthday is coming up, we bought him a cake and had that as an afternoon snack. But I only had ice cream - no cake for me! I can't believe I managed to refrain, but I did. I simply left the table so that I wouldn't have to stare at the cake and try to make conversation with my family at the same time ;)

Dinner was snack foods, which I thought was interesting. Grandma wouldn't normally put out snack foods for a meal, but I didn't question it. I had an apple, celery, mushrooms, and some other snack foods that are just too numerous to mention - but very good with the portions and walked away from the chips.

Sunday was spent doing laundry and housework. I did not get a bagel for breakfast; instead, I fried some of the rice I cooked, added soy sauce and fried an egg into it. Later on I had some cod, and then splurged with my $5 budget and bought some plain tortillas and a diet soda (just under $3 total) for the afternoon while catching up on tv.

I went to wallyball again last night, and once again I was red as a tomato within minutes of playing! And once again, I am pretty sore today. In fact, I think I may have tweaked my left knee slightly. It has been difficult to weight-bear on it. The planned x-rays in February may kill two birds with one stone...

Long entry! but I'm almost done.

Today I'm having friends over for dinner; I'm making chicken and dumplings, with carrots and roasted brussel sprouts. I plan on getting my walking done on the treadmill while waiting for dinner to cook.

P.S. - I still didn't get over the whole "Bagel" mania. Since I have no breakfast groceries, I stopped on my way to work and got myself a multigrain bagel for breakfast ;)

I am "behind" - how long is the $5 supposed to last? I saw your roasted brussel sprouts and immediately thought - YUM! I gotta make some of those things! That and beets and sweet potatoes are about my favorite vegetables. But I like them all.
