Get ready for a long one...

Last night I gorged on sushi and went to an evening meeting. I went to sleep fairly early so that I would be ready to go in the morning for the trip to the city. I was all packed and out the door by 7:30am, but not without taking the following pics:

GOOD MORNING! Jazz Hands!

Run a 5k? what? ME????

I'LL KILL IT!!!!!!!

My breakfast was two slices of rye toast with almond butter and raspberry jam. Breakfast Of Champions.

It was dreary out when we left town, and it only got worse. It took the three of us a few misguided attempts to find the starting location of the run, but soon we figured our little selves out and were on our way:

In front of the Legislature where the race begins. Well, and ends.

At the starting line, fighting for space in the middle of the pack.

I had a strong beginning to the run, and the first mile went swimmingly well (pun intended). During this time, we were hit with a strong falling of rain, and were soon soaked through, but we finished the first mile in 12:02 which was awesome. Then... disaster. I decided I needed a walk break. As soon as I stopped running and began to walk, my calves tightened right up and my left shin started to huuurrrrrt real bad. So much so, that I told Running Buddy there was no way I was going to be able to walk a good pace. It really screwed up my time, and left me looking a little haggard:

At the halfway point. Decidedly wet and hurting real bad.

We reached the second mile marker at a 13:39. At this point I told RB that if I didn't jog for the rest of the run, i'd be a goner. We parted ways so that I could continue running while RB took her second walk break. Then I had to stop and try fixing my stop watch because the rain made it go PSYCHO. I didn't manage to fix it until after the run, and had to rely on my phenomenal (not) math skills to help me figure out how I was doing. RB caught up to me when we saw the 4k marker and we burnt rubber (not really) in the last kilometre of the run.

And then, sweet goodness thank-you-ever-so-much, we saw the finish line:

It was cloudy, rainy and dreary, but the big red balloon signalled the end of the run and I was so so incredibly happy to see it.

After clocking a 12:33 for the third and final mile, we ran across the line finishing in 38:15.

The swag I got from my kit and from winning a door prize! Can you say "WINNER"!!! Among the swag were Yop drinks, an egg baker, flaxseed, a running shirt, and golfing stuff. Woot!

We also munched on stunning fruit platters and I grabbed a muffin and an apple for the road home. And then we went for lunch, LOL, with another friend and my parents where I had an enormous cheeseburger with fries and three pints of ice water.

Then we went shopping. Can you imagine how tired I am right now? But I am going to get my butt moving again and walk over to grandma's for... take a guess... DINNER! Yes! I get to eat yet again today!

My goodness, i'm so tired I could vomit.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

My friends, this is what happens when a princess suddenly finds herself responsible for all the yardwork...

Blister From Hell.

I also have one on my thumb, but it's not as terrible-looking. I will be showing it off as a war wound and enticing people to feel sorry for me as long as possible. There is an upside to everything ;)

So obviously I did some yardwork yesterday. I pulled numerous weeds and then cut the grass. I broke a sweat within ten minutes! It was great! And thank goodness I got 'er done, because it's raining cats and dogs out there today. I have a feeling i'll be running in the rain tomorrow - you have no idea how exciting the prospect is to me (no lie); I love playing in the rain! But I will be sure to dress appropriately so that I don't come home with a nasty cold. Downside - my legs hurt and I feel callouses on my left heel. Must stop striking with heel and start running properly. I am wearing my compression socks today and will wear them to bed as well; hopefully this will help in my run tomorrow morning.

For dinner yesterday I had leftover sole with rice and red pepper. I am pleased to report that there was no late night snacking from this girl! Score One against the Snacking Monster! However, I woke up starving this morning and unable to do anything about it as I was running late for work. Also, for some reason I thought today was Thursday and felt deep regret when I walked into work this morning and realized it was Friday and I could've worn jeans and sneakers...

Guess I ought to get to work; have a great day everyone! I will try to report my race results sometime tomorrow!

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

loveray on 05/27/2011:
yikes, looks like you overdid it, but good for you for trying some yard work!! hope you have a great memorial day weekend. xo

moogy on 05/27/2011:
OK, here it comes!! Oh legcramps, are you alright? That looks really nasty. What on earth have you been doing do yourself? You poor girl, is there anything I can do for you. You better put something on that straight away before it gets infected!!!! Right, that was the best I could do from half way round the world. Good job girlie and a blister to prove you worked hard. Now you can work the blister!!!! Have a great weekend and enjoy your running in the rain.:)

hollybelle on 05/27/2011:
OUCH! I always got them on my thumbs, until I learned to put bandaids on my thumbs before I started. One way or the other it's gonna require a bandaid - it's better before! P.S. Gloves help, too! Have a great weekend.

thinkpositive on 05/27/2011:
Yes, ouch- looks painful. That's the problem with yardwork- it all needs to be done at once. Not like housework that can wait.Enjoy your weekend.

Finally! A moment to breathe! Love it!

I had to stay late at work yesterday to attend a meeting and I missed my weekly ballgame (which they won woot woot!). Instead of playing ball, I suffered through a quiet two hour meeting and ate turkey/cranberry wraps for dinner. Yuck. Not a fan of cranberries, but guess what? I ate it. Just give it to me, i'll eat it ;) Dessert made up for the yucky dinner - a brownie with glorious chocolate mousse for the icing! WOW! I also had a few crackers once I got home.

Dog and I went for another walk last night; this time it was already dark so we didn't stray too far from the streetlights. I've decided I don't like walking that late at night; I held onto Dog's leash like it was one of those ninja assassin weapons of war and was tempted to start swinging the end around and screaming "hi-ya" at the top of my lungs. That would teach any losers to try attacking me. Anyways. I digress.

I stopped in to the ball team's after-party and high-fived everyone and let everyone pet Dog for a few minutes, then we proceeded to jump and bounce our way back home. I went to bed slightly later than usual.

I had squared it with my boss that I would come in to work around 10 this morning, due to the hours worked at the meeting last night, so I was able to sleep in a bit. Still, I didn't wake up until 7:30 and even then I didn't want to get out of bed. What the heck is wrong with me? Finally I forced myself out of bed and stumbled downstairs to get changed for a run. Dog wanted to come with me, but I was grumpy and didn't let her. I did my ab routine and some basic stretches before I started running. The whole run (2.8 miles) was slow; even though I started to enjoy myself after about a mile or so, I just couldn't manage to move any faster. I hope my run on Saturday goes better than this.

Back at home I quickly got ready for work and stopped for a coffee and a yogurt crumble on my way to the office. A couple hours later and I was due in the conference room for yet another meeting. The meeting went through lunch so they provided us with ham and cheese sandwiches and soup. I had one sandwich and another brownie (SCORE!). I brought salad for an afternoon snack, but right now all I want to do is take a nap ;) meetings are so mentally draining! And the whole sandwich, from the bread to the cheese, goes against my Type O diet! Frustrating!

Two more hours of fun at work and then I need to cut the grass and call the Yard Guy to see if he can cultivate my garden for next to nothing because i'm a broke single person with a giant ass mortgage.

Yawn. I need to foam roll today.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 05/26/2011:
I'm not a huge fan of cranberries and I probably would have eaten the wrap too. I have trouble saying no to free food. The brownie sounds awesome....great job on the run and walking!

thinkpositive on 05/26/2011:
You sound busy & great that you can fit in your exercise. I can relate to your tired feeling. Hoping mine goes away & same for you. Maybe your office could offer an alternate selection when providing sandwiches- just a thought.

I am a tired bunny today and i'm not really sure why...

I made myself a dinner of sole, asparagus and potatoes, with a smattering of red pepper, onion and salsa. Oh my goodness deliciousness. I think I may have over-steamed the asparagus though; I find it very difficult to time asparagus. Still, I ate it all so it must have been good ;) I managed to find a chicken salad for lunch but I think the honey mustard dressing gave me heartburn. The rest of the afternoon was comprised of me trying my hardest not to burp out loud.

I was feeling antsy last night, so I decided to burn some energy and took Dog for a walk around town. It was so nice out, hardly any wind and I just needed a comfy sweater; only at the very end of the walk was I starting to feel a bit chilled. I was asleep fairly quickly but this morning I was not getting up for no one or nothing. So my 5:30am alarm kept going off every ten minutes until I finally rolled out of bed around 7am. And I am dragging today. I wonder if I would have forced myself out of bed if i'd be feeling better right now. Probably.

I am heading home for lunch today because I have an evening meeting and I need to let Dog out for a bathroom break. I stole some chilli from my Mom yesterday when I picked up the asparagus, so I think i'll have that and a couple slices of rye bread for lunch. Dinner will be whatever is at the meeting, which I imagine will be soup and sandwiches and hopefully fruit.

I am bummed that I will miss our second ballgame of the season tonight because of the meeting; I always look forward to heading out to the diamonds and getting dirty running around in the dirt ;) Maybe I will have another surge of energy tonight and take Dog for another walk - maybe we'll even run... we'll see!

Have a super fun day today!

A tired bunny :)., that's a funny expression. My friend's daughter (almost 3 yrs old) calls herself a kitten. I accidentaly called her "bunny" and she corrected me: "I'm NOT a bunny, I'm a kitten!" :-D That must have been fun with the dog walking. I like chilly weather, they key is to dress up properly. A comfy sweater sounds perfect. You wake up when I wake up (5h30). I know it's hard. :-o

legcramps - Tuesday May 24, 2011

Weight: 164.0

This weekend I took my Mom and Grandma on a road trip to visit family. It was a long weekend, driving 4+ hours each way, but well worth it. The time in between driving was mostly spent laughing, relaxing and enjoying some down-time. I took Thursday and Friday off and spent those days cleaning and doing yardwork so that I wouldn't have a mess of things to do when I got back from the trip. Last night when I got home I fed Dog and passed out on the couch ;)

Wednesday's ball game went fairly well, although we lost the game it was a lot of fun and it felt good to be back out there enjoying the warm weather jello shots. I drank plenty of water and woke up feeling pretty good on Thursday morning!

I went for a run this weekend at my cousin's farm. Enter pain. Their farm land is really hilly, some of it is quite steep so I really got my hill training in this weekend. But even more painful was the fact that their land is very sandy. The roads are part gravel, part sand. It was incredibly difficult to run on sand. I enjoyed the 2.5 mile run while I was running it, but afterwards my legs tightened right up and my thighs were really feeling it, so I asked my cousin to take me on a walking tour of the farm. That walk turned into almost 3 miles because we were trying to avoid running into the gang of dogs at her in-laws (I had Dog with me and I didn't want her to get eaten). My legs felt better after the walk, but my cousin was nauseus and worn out for the rest of the day. In total, on Sunday I took four walks to try and keep my legs loose!!!

Since my legs are still feeling tight, I think I will wait another day or two to run again. Plus, I have the 5k run coming up on Saturday, so i'll need the extra rest to get my body ready for it. The great thing is that I don't have the shin pain that I usually do after a run. Or maybe I just can't feel the shin pain over the thigh pain ;)

Tonight I think I will cook up fish and use up some veggies that have been in the fridge for too long. Mom also picked some of her asparagus so i'll steam that and eat it up tonight. Yum! I didn't bring any lunch to work with me, so i'll have to pick something from the cafeteria; hopefully they have something other than sandwiches. And I need to drink lots of water today and for the rest of the week. Better get started on that right now!

Have an awesome day today!

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 05/24/2011:
Wow that's a lot of running and walking. Your shins maybe don't hurt because of running on a softer pavement?? If you usually run on pavement the ground/sand, etc is softer and it's usually the impact that hurt the shins. Just a guess from my running days (which are far behind me).You fish and asparagus sound great. Youre smart to rest up before the race Saturday - go, girl!!

Em17 on 05/24/2011:

Sounds like a great time! Running on sand is incredibly hard~add hills to it and yeh, your poor thighs!! Good for you tho, for pushing thru it..and taking so many walks after..Glad the shins aren't giving you any problems.

Dinner sounds yummy!! Hope you have a great night!

I literally just got back from a run this morning, and I took some pictures along the way so I thought i'd share. I'm not usually a picture-taker jogger but I got bored ;)

A little foggy in the bathroom...

See my sunburn?

The Trains!!! I used to live far too close to this area... the trains would keep me up at night. Oh, look, there's my shadow!

More trains, a bridge, and a lotta water. My phone doesn't take very good pictures.

I snapped a quick pic of my pretty flowers before I came inside. Aren't they pretty? So pretty!

Okay, i'm off to shower and get ready for work. First ballgame of the season is tonight! (that's what the jello shooters are for, LOL). And no, surprisingly I don't have a headache this morning.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

You'd be surprised at what I can accomplish in one day... pulled muscles, sunburn, burn myself on a bbq...

Yesterday I noticed a spider in the house. It had crawled into my basket of clean, folded clothes. That basket still sits in the same spot. I'll bet you $20 it'll stay there for at least another week before I come up with the courage to even touch it. That really sucks because I had a pair of sweats in there that I wanted to wear for our first ballgame tomorrow.

Also - I slept on the couch last night because I found a woodtick on the wall near my bed. I wasn't taking the chance that the little bugger didn't jump into the covers as soon as I wasn't looking so I slept slightly crooked on the far side of the couch. (no, I did not try to kill it. i just stared at it for a few minutes, willing it to disappear.). D'ya think I have a phobia?

I drove to work this morning because I was angry with the weather. It's so friggin' windy here it took me over half an hour to walk home yesterday, and it's still windy today. Seriously, the wind literally moved me from one side of the sidewalk to the other side. Ridiculous. I must've looked like a drunken idiot. If only I had been, then it might not be so embarrassing.

Well, now that you're caught up with the Life of Legcramps, let me share my eats and move on with my day:

Cereal with 1% skim milk; Chicken Bacon Wrap on white; 1 slice coffee cake; 1 granola bar; beef burger with potato fries and salad (iceberg lettuce, spinach, broccoli, red pepper and onion).

Today i'm having coffee for breakfast and I brought toast with egg whites and the salad from above for lunch. The chicken bacon wrap was good, but totally not something I should be eating.

I saw pictures of cupcakes on some website somewhere and now I am craving them big time. I've even come close to deciding to start my own cupcake business, just so that I can eat them. It's a sick, sick disease.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 05/17/2011:
The chicken bacon wrap sounds yummy. I prefer to avoid bugs too, but luckily my cats take care of most of them. I hope you are pest-free soon, have a good one!

hollybelle on 05/17/2011:
So are you getting a cat to take care of the bugs? Good idea from Umpqua there.

sweetpea1977 on 05/17/2011:
Cats are good at catching and destroying bugs. I witness their skills all the time. They arent afraid of anything!!

Can I work at your cupcake bakery? I can work in quality control and dispose of the cupcake rejects. ;-)

Em17 on 05/17/2011:
Wind wind go away =)

Hope you have a great day!!!

legcramps - Monday May 16, 2011

Weight: 164.0

Saturday:

Yardwork ruled the day. I was going to run but I slept in instead. For breakfast I had a bagel with plain cream cheese and coffee. Yardwork consisted of raking, cleaning out the flower beds, and cutting grass. I snacked on a granola bar at lunch and some snack mix stuff. Then I set up my outdoor patio set. Then I got groceries. For dinner I had leftover cod with brown rice and a PILE of salad - iceberg lettuce, spinach, broccoli, feta cheese and an oil based feta cheese salad dressing. I was knackered and hit the sack early - and then was mad as heck in the morning when I realized that I missed a message from 'A' seeing if I was up and wanted to do something. Damn it.

Sunday:

Laundry, dishes, vacuuming and watching episodes of Cougar Town. Again I did not run, but this time it was because... you're not going to believe this... I pulled a muscle in my collarbone while I was sleeping. Serious. I was up and moving around by 8am, but I took a muscle relaxant and then passed out on the couch for the rest of the morning. I don't take medications very often, so it knocked me right out. For lunch I had toast with jam, an egg white and some brown rice. It was still hurting in the afternoon, so I took another pill and went to ball practice. How stupid is that? After ball practice I sat outside on my deck reading The Dirt and burned because I put sunscreen on too late. Then I decided I wanted burgers on the bbq. Once they were cooked, I reached down to turn off the propane and accidentally touched my arm to the bottom of the bbq. Yowch. I burned my arm pretty badly, but thankfully I can't yet feel any pain. Honestly, I don't think I should do anything on my own anymore. Dinner was bbq'd burgers and another PILE of salad.

Monday:

I walked to work this morning. I have the 5k in two more weeks and I don't know how i'm going to run it. On blind faith, I guess. It will be fun no matter whether I can run it or not. Today I need to pick up and send some mail, and finalize the details of a gift for my sister in law. That is all. I hope.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

legcramps - Friday May 13, 2011

Busy busy day yesterday at work, and then a jewellery party last night. Whew, i'm ready for the weekend!

I don't know what the deal is, but I can't seem to get enough sleep lately. It's a huge struggle to get up in the morning, even when i've had over 9 hours of sleep. I'd better do something about this - it seems like the more sleep I get, the more sleep I feel like I need. Maybe i'm coming down with a cold because normally i've been waking up at the crack of dawn and am at least able to pull myself out of bed to walk to work - I can't even seem to do that anymore.

I have some good news. I received my first set of books and materials for the homestudy fitness course i'm taking. So between planting the garden, figuring out a new diet plan for myself, and playing ball and enjoying summer - I will be moving along in the course. I hope! Now if only the warm weather would join in the fun!

Come on, SUN!

My projects for the weekend include: raking the yard (boo), cleaning out the flower beds, mowing the lawn, cleaning the basement, laundry, vacuuming, groceries, ball practice.... ladidadida. Sounds like I might be exhausted by Monday morning ;)

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

Like the sun! Maybe more time in the sun & you'll be less sleepy? The homestudy fitness course sounds like fun. Nice weekend planned- but you're right, does sound exhausting.

What's the fitness course you are taking? I must have missed info on that. Sounds exciting.

Your plan for the summer sounds good! I could ship my kids off to you if you need extra help getting up in the morning. They won't let you stay in bed ;) Have a great weekend!

Yes, come on sun, play fair. You will absolutely be getting lots of movement in over the weekend if the sun co-operates. Hope you have a good weekend legcramps:)
