legcramps - Wednesday Sep 22, 2010

Weight: 163.5

So I spent most of Monday feeling good about myself and my accomplishment.  I took the day off from running... geez, I don't think I did anything at all that evening.  I felt utterly exhausted, but figured it was just from over-exerting myself on Sunday.  Tuesday morning I woke up with a sore throat and a whole lotta muscle aches.  Caught myself a cold.

I slept hard Monday night, probably got 10 hours of sleep.  I barely got through the morning on Tuesday - I had to orientate a new employee and I just bumbled my way through as best I could.  I decided to take the afternoon off so that I could catch up on some things I haven't been doing at home, but as soon as my butt hit the couch I was asleep.  I slept from 1pm until 5pm; went to a friend's for supper and to watch some tv; then was back in bed by 11pm and woke up at 7am this morning, still exhausted and hurting!

So you can imagine what my day's been like.  I had to sit through a morning meeting, then come back to my desk where hell awaited.  My entire desk was covered with work - I am so exhausted and overwhelmed by it all I want to scream and cry and throw a hissy fit.

Apparently all it takes to throw me off course is a fever, congestion, and overall acheyness.

Progress as of today: 11.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 09/22/2010:
I hope you feel better soon and give yourself some downtime, you deserve it!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/22/2010:
believe me, we ALL feel like this when we are sick!!!!

you are still on a winning streak, according to me, so even though you aren't feeling well, i don't want sickness to depress you! keep a positive outlook, rest a lot and drink fluids, and you'll feel better soon!

V on 09/22/2010:
Still worn out from your 5k??? well now that you are home make sure you have time to decompress :) Have a good evening Legcramps!

moogy on 09/22/2010:
Hey, don't be hard on yourself, you are sick. Having a cold isn't some nuisance, it can be quite debilitating. I am not suprised that you are sleeping so much, you must be exhausted. Do you not have sickleave so you can take days of to get better. I wish I could come and look after you.

Weight: 163.5

I can't believe I finished a whole 5k run yesterday, given i'm not in the best of shape.  Wow!  I'm feeling pretty good about that.

So my legs are feeling pretty sore today.  I took a warm bath yesterday after the run - I think it helped a bit, but it might be awhile before I try to run that far again.  Next scheduled run day is tomorrow.  My running partner finished the 5k in just over 36 minutes - she rocks!!!  I told her we should train hard for next year so that she could maybe finish in 30 minutes.  Maybe by then so could I!  It's something to be motivated about, for sure.

We all went for a congratulatory supper last night and I went all out.  I ordered chicken with baked potato and loads of veggies, along with a ceasar salad AND garlic bread!  I managed to eat the salad, bread and veggies, and took the rest home for today.  I really wanted to eat it all, but all the exercise seemed to nix my hunger level.  I'm okay with that!!!

Tonight i've tentatively booked for sushi making with a friend.  Tomorrow run, Wednesday Survivor!  It's looking like a good week so far!

coffee, banana muffin, iced tea

leftovers

Have a great start to the week everyone!

Progress as of today: 11.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

Good running legcramps. Well done. I think your tummy may have shrunk, I know mine has. At least you have a nice lunch for today.

legcramps - Sunday Sep 19, 2010

Weight: 163.5

A Very Quick Entry:  (sort of)

Ran on Saturday morning, used a different energy gel:

Dex4 Glucose - fast acting carb

26 minutes total, 8 running.

1) Taste - bleh.  It tastes like cough syrup.  I hated having to take cough syrup when I was a kid.  Perhaps it is impossible to please me...

2) Effect - n.o.n.e.  Ok, to be fair, I had eaten a very large bagel smothered in cream cheese for breakfast, and did not drink any water.  I didn't even give this stuff a fighting chance, really.  We each popped about 15mg of it before starting the workout.  Seriously, I don't have much else to say.  It really did nothing for me.  My running partner enjoyed it though, and would probably recommend it.

Run Sunday afternoon, used Weider Extreme Energy Jel (reviewed on Friday).

Ate big breakfast of pasta and meat sauce with grated cheese, then an energy bar, along with about 1.5 litres of iced tea.  Had to pee a lot.  Really a lot.

39:27 minutes total, about half of it running (but you probably could have walked faster than I was running, lol) - 5 kilometres, or 3.1 miles.

I finished the 5k, after almost nixing the whole thing because I was doubting myself so much.  Wanted to stop many, many times.  Reached 3k and my left leg started giving me trouble.  No problems with cardio (besides my own laziness of not wanting to run), just knee and shin issues.  Oh well, it's done!  And the important thing is that I finished in under 40 minutes!

Progress as of today: 11.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

V on 09/19/2010:
Congrats for sticking to your run!!!! Yay!!!! :)

Maria7 on 09/19/2010:
Wow, you are a FAST runner!!! And congrats on completing your run! :-)

moogy on 09/19/2010:
Well done, that was a great time. You have come such a long way in your running (no pun intended). Maybe you could try that cough syrupy thing without a full tummy next time!! Have a wonderful day.

Umpqua on 09/19/2010:
Bravo! I'm so impressed with any amount of running, and you finished a 5K. Woot!

legcramps - Friday Sep 17, 2010

Weight: 163.5

Well, someone else in my neighborhood has called the police because of having seen this guy in their backyard.  I am hearing that it is most definitely a teenager living in the neighborhood (like, three houses down from me).  Since his home life is not at all good for a 14 year old boy, if we continue calling the police when we see him where he shouldn't be he will likely be taken out of the home by Social Services.

Went running yesterday, 11 minutes with walking inbetween.

I had thrown a couple of gel packs in the freezer so I grabbed two before heading to the park.  I gave one to my jogging partner, and took a gel pack myself before starting to run.  I can't remember the brand, but i'll get that info and update it here later.  UPDATE:  Weider Good2Go Extreme Energy Jel - Cola flavor

1) Taste:  Ugh, it was disgusting!  I had picked "Cola" flavor.  It says "Amazing flavor" right on the package.  So gross!  The texture was bad enough to begin with, because it was a gel and I HATE things like jello, cottage cheese, etc.  It was very difficult to swallow down.  But the taste!  Oh my God!  I will never pick "Cola" flavor again.

2) Energy:  I do believe the gel pack helped boost my energy levels.  The problem was that I was barely putting one foot in front of the other because my muscles were so darn sore from running so long the day before.  HOWEVER, not once throughout the entire session did I have to walk any extra amount of time, and I was left with a little extra energy at the end of the run - that NEVER happens!

3) Rating:  I'd give it Three Stars out of Five.  There's just gotta be better gel packs out there.  I have two left, so i'll struggle with them until they're gone, then find a different kind to try.

coffee, oatmeal bar, iced tea

baked potato, macaroni salad

ribs, ONE perogy, salad salad salad!!!

No running today, i'm forcing myself to take a day off.  Back at it tomorrow morning.

Progress as of today: 11.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

sweetpea1977 on 09/17/2010:
A teenager? Wow. I hope his homelife situation improves!

Thanks for the gel review. You didnt like the taste and texture, but it did seem to do its job. I guess thats good news. Hope you'll find some better ones soon!

KathyBlue on 09/17/2010:
ahhh poor kid, he must be desperate. That's dangerous, though... :( It's better to have an idea about who can he be!

nita51 on 09/17/2010:
Thanks for the head's up on the gel packs. Hope that kid gets some help. Have yourself a great weekend :)

moogy on 09/17/2010:
OK, so the gel packs work but taste yuccky, some experimentation needed I think. It is really good that you were able to exercise as you wanted with energy left over, that's encouraging. Have a wonderful day off running. The recipes for Lemon Cheesecake and Buttermilk Chocolate Cake are in the forum, enjoy!! Thanks for your comments, I appreciate them.

breakaway on 09/17/2010:
Hope your able to find some better flavors :) Have a great day!

You are doing great on your running :) Have a good one girly!

legcramps - Thursday Sep 16, 2010

Weight: 163.5

All this running is really starting to pay off... and it's also leaving me with some very tired muscles.  I've put in a request for a rest day today, so we'll see if I get it!  My neck and shoulder muscles are pretty sore so far this morning.

Well, our calculations (ok, MY calculations) were way off base and we realized we'd have to run a lot farther in order to reach 5 kilometers.  So last night, we decided to go the full 5k and see how long it took.  Man, it was rough!  43 minutes was our final time - yikes.  I'm glad we were able to finish, but we're really pushing ourselves hard right now and i'm pretty sure we'll collapse under the pressure pretty soon.  Hopefully we can at least hang on until the run on Sunday.  Somehow i've just talked myself into wanting to run today...

I have energy gels I want to try out before Sunday as well.  I'm curious to know how they'll have an effect.  If we run tonight, i'll try one out.

After running, I got cleaned up then went to a friend's place to watch the first episode of Survivor.  It was a good one, although I am peeved that they separated the tribes based on individual age.  I got home later than I wanted, but managed to fall asleep quickly and am only a little bit tired today.  No unwanted intruders came into my yard while I was home, so i'm hoping that A-it was someone who came into the yard by mistake, or B-they got scared away by the cops and won't be returning for a while.  Either way works for me!  I am just trying my best to continue life as usual.

coffee, oatmeal bar, iced tea (those oatmeal bars are saving me from starving every morning. i'm totally wasting my money, but whatever.)

chicken ceasar salad (sans cheese. boo.)

Woohoo!  Tomorrow is my Mom's office party for her retirement.  I'm slow-cooking ribs and there'll be perogies and meatballs and... OMG!  How will I be able to resist all the food????

Progress as of today: 11.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

getmebackto150 on 09/16/2010:
good job on completing the full 5k!!! If you are anything like me, you will have lots of adrenalin pumping the day of the race... My first race, I finished 2 minutes faster than my best training time and I felt like I had run crappy... My race is on Saturday... we will have to trade battle stories:)

hollybelle on 09/16/2010:
WOW 5 k in 43 mins - That's fantastic! Good job! Let me know about that energy gel stuff - what is it and I'm curious if you think it works....I need HELP with energy level!

sweetpea1977 on 09/16/2010:
I am very curious about how the energy gels work for you. Let us know what brands you try and which ones work/taste the best. I will be training for 10ks and half marathons after I have this baby so I will need all the energy I get. :)

Anyway good work on the 5k. The important thing is that you finished it!! Plus, once you're at the race site, your adrenaline will be flowing high and you'll probably run quicker. Then once you get that race time, you'll be encouraged to continue training and will improve. So keep up the great work!

V on 09/16/2010:
i think you can make a teeny plate without ruining your diet, just don't go back for seconds! LOL glad you posted today i was a little worried after yesterday's post

moogy on 09/16/2010:
OK, first of all, I am so proud of you and your determination with your running. So impressive. You go girl. Second, we are going to be two weeks behind with Survivor, so please warn me if you are going to comment so I can look away, thank you, although I could make bets with my daughter with the advanced information - no, that would be wrong wouldn't it?????? :) Slow cooked ribs, dribble dribble, you are killing meeeeee....................!!!!drool

hopingforhealth on 09/16/2010:
Way to go with the 5K! Finishing it is something to be proud of. Good luck with the resistance tomorrow (I bet your ribs will be delicious!) and have a nice evening!

Maria7 on 09/16/2010:
Wow...5k in 43 mins...you were MOVING ON!!!

Maria7 on 09/16/2010:
Was that a FIRST episode of a NEW SURVIVOR I missed last nite?????

I noticed Hubby surfing the channels with the remote control and I thought (since I was on the computer) it was old episodes or either in the middle of a new Survivor...didn't realize it was FIRST episode of a NEW one! :-(

Umpqua on 09/17/2010:
I hadn't seen this update from you yesterday. I'm glad you were able to sleep well and have had no more unwanted intruders!

Ribs... wow.. good luck resisting too much temptation : ) I am sure you will be fine : )

legcramps - Wednesday Sep 15, 2010

Weight: 164.0

Went running yesterday 10 minutes with some hill intervals added in.  It was rough; those hills beat the crap out of us for sure.

Then I got tired after that and layed on the couch.  Around 9pm I remembered that Mom said it might freeze overnight and I should cover my garden.  I decided I was too lazy to do that, so I didn't.  Around 9:04pm I was walking into the kitchen when I saw the garage light go on.  So.  Light went on.  Tall dark figure stood in front of my garage door.  Tall dark figure looked up at the garage light.  Tall dark figure started moving down the path towards my house.  I, of course, freaked out.  I ducked down to the floor of the kitchen, made a half-hearted attempt to unlock the back door and yell at him - decided against this, ran into the living room and cowered in the corner, waited for tall dark figure to knock on the back door, waited some more, waited maybe 3 minutes in total with no knock on the door, called the cops.  Cops came, looked around and saw no one, said they hoped they scared him away, left.  A friend came to attempt to calm me down.  I attempted sleep around midnight, woke up after a bit to the sound of tree branches scraping across the roof.  Freaky.  Couldn't sleep after that.  Fell asleep finally around 4:30am.  Was up by 7am to get ready for work.

I'm really scared.  But i'm not going to let it ruin my plans.  He won't get the best of me.  I'm going to buy some wasp spray after work today, I think.

coffee, oatmeal bar, iced tea

chicken ceasar salad X 2

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

getmebackto150 on 09/15/2010:
Yikes that is really scary!!!! I'm thinking of you!

liza36 on 09/15/2010:
Oh my gosh, do you think it was the same person who set the motion light off yesterday after you mowed the lawn? That's freaky! I'm so sorry! I live alone, and try not to think of things happening like that. Be careful!!

sweetpea1977 on 09/15/2010:
Oh my gosh, how scary!! Buy a beebee gun (or two) and a baseball bat (or two) and keep them near the door and/or your bed!!

Umpqua on 09/15/2010:
Geez, you and Sweetpea are having some serious neighbor issues! Although hopefully this guy isn't actually one of your neighbors. When I was in college I had a panic alarm I used to carry in my purse. It was tiny, but you pulled the plug on it and it made a deafening, high pitched noise. I wonder if you could get something like that and blast it out the window if he tries coming around again? Sorry you're having to deal with this!

moogy on 09/15/2010:
Wow, that is scary. I am not suprised that you hardly slept. Yes, don't let someone else with bad intentions ruin your plans, that would be a shame and give that person your power - you hold on tight to your sensible self and stay focused. I am sending you love, peace and a big scary dog!!!:)

V on 09/15/2010:
Tall Dark figure gets 2 slugs in the head, the end! I live alone as well and I pray that no one EVER tries to break in, i am a shoot first ask questions later type....I am hoping this person meant you no harm and perhaps was at the wrong house.

breakaway on 09/15/2010:
I agree with V totally! If someone messes with you don't be afraid to hurt them, and hurt them bad. Now I'm worried for you! I hope things are ok. Maybe have someone stay at your house for a few days?

just42day on 09/16/2010:
Don't blame you for being scared w/that situation. I suspect it was isolated incident and person probably was just confused. You did the right thing by calling the police. Take care of yourself! :)

legcramps - Tuesday Sep 14, 2010

Weight: 164.0

I finally got the lawn cut yesterday.  Took me about an hour.  My goodness, the grass was so high I had crop circles in the backyard due to the wind.

Ran 12 minutes with walking inbetween.  We are going to try to add consecutive running minutes today, if the weather cooperates and my friend is not feeling too badly to run.  I feel okay so far, but who knows how i'll be feeling by the end of the day!

5k run Sept 19/10 Goal:  36 minutes

(that's just a reminder)

So I cut the lawn, went running, fed and watered the dog, then had coffee with a friend.  It was a busy evening.  Just before I decided to head upstairs to bed, I noticed the garage light was on.  It is a motion light, and only goes on if there is something/one in the backyard.  I've been hearing things about a peeping tom in the neighborhood, so I shut off all the lights and stood by the window, peering into the yard with my heart hammering in my chest.  Eventually I decided it was only an animal, and was actually able to sleep through the night and into this morning.

coffee and iced tea, oatmeal bar

chicken ceasar salad

i have some spaghetti squash i really need to eat as well

I'm going to throw the rest of the jambalaya away.  I tried to eat the leftovers yesterday, but it's just not going down very well.  Way too spicy for me.  Too bad - because of the spiciness of the food, I only ate a cereal bar and the jambalaya with macaroni salad.  It was probably a 1200 calorie day, one of the best i've had in a while.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 09/14/2010:
I laughed about your mowing the lawn comment at the beginning of your entry. Sounds like you sure got your exercise in yesterday! Coffee with a friend sounded wonderful, too! Good on the calories yesterday, too! Hope you have another nice day today! :-)

KathyBlue on 09/14/2010:
so you have Hungarian ancestors? :)

skinnygrlwithin on 09/14/2010:
haha mine really isn't a race either... I am sssoo slow!! It's the point of doing it!! Not how fast we get it done right!! I think it's a hue accomplishment in and of itself

Umpqua on 09/14/2010:
You are so funny talking about crop circles in your yard. Maybe your motion light went on because you had "vistors" out there ;) I guess that would be better than a peeping Tom!

loveray on 09/14/2010:
cutting the lawn is kind of fun, in my book! i used to kind of zen-out to it with all of the patterns and the repetitive motion when i had a yard:) hope you have a wonderful day!

The lawn cutting sounded like a bit of an adventure. I am glad you got a good night's sleep in after your little scare. Have a great day.

Thanks for the welcome last night! It's true, those old building stairs with force you to exercise on the stairs! My building has an elevator, but it's pretty unreliable. That peeping Tom thing would've freaked me out too! Yikes!

Hope you had a great day today. My day went was one of the best, in a long while. I really appreciated your uplifting words. Crop circles? they've always been a mystery to me. congrats on getting the yard done. that is the one job I seem to leave for the hubby...lol

legcramps - Monday Sep 13, 2010

Weight: 164.0

I went running on Saturday morning, managed 8 minutes of running with walking in between.  My recovery time sucks; need to work on this.  Only 6 more days until the 5k run, so my goal is to complete it within 36 minutes.  I think we are going to try running today.  I need to mow the lawn right after work today, so it may be interesting to try running after that.

The weekend was quiet.  I managed to get into the city yesterday to find an outfit to wear to a friend's wedding next month.  It's very nice, a grey striped pencil skirt, and a fitted top with a long cardigan.  Then I found a plaid skirt that I liked, so now I will have to make a choice as to which one I want to wear.  They're size 11, which is great because last time I tried clothes on, I was a size 13.  The top I have is a medium, but is a bit big so i'm probably between a medium and small.  Sweet!  I was wearing size large shirts not too long ago!  Of course, every store sizes their clothes differently so I can't take much stock in that :-)

I ate jambalaya for supper out yesterday with friends.  It was wicked spicy and probably extremely high in calories.  The good thing is I could only eat half the dish.  I took the rest home for today, but I didn't enjoy it very much - except for the spice it was quite flavorless.  Maybe my tongue was numb though.  I swear, even water burned going down my throat.  That's some spicy tomatoes!

coffee

leftovers

i'm drinking iced tea because water didn't sound appetizing today. i'm almost done 1 litre already!

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

just42day on 09/13/2010:
That's great that you're finding not only cute clothes but in a smaller size! :)

KathyBlue on 09/13/2010:
Try to learn more about breathing, it's a key to running and all aerobic activities. :) Ahh, you have to post a photo of you at the wedding! I'm so curious :) Congrats on the size, it's such a superb feeling to reduce it. :)

sweetpea1977 on 09/13/2010:
Be careful with doing lawn work and running today. I hope you are able to get some rest in between those two activities. You're doing a great job at hydrating yourself though, so you'll probably be fine. :)

tangalyn on 09/13/2010:
ur doing far better than i could with ur walking/running time, so i dont think its that bad, try to stay positive :) hope u have a great day!!!

Umpqua on 09/13/2010:
That's awesome that you're finding nice clothes in smaller sizes. I love it when that happens!

moogy on 09/13/2010:
How wonderful to be fitting into smaller sized clothes, I am sure that you will look great in whichever outfit you settle on. I hope you look after yourself with your exercise today. Have a good one.

Yay for smaller clothes! I know you have to be proud!!!!! Awesome job!!! Only 9 more to go :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/14/2010:
so you really are doing AWESOME legcramps! how wonderful! you are exercising, relaxing, shopping, buying smaller clothes! all great things! sounds like you are nice and petite on top, too! i long for those days of size small shirts! i am definitely no small right now, a medium. i remember i was a small 3 to 3.5 years ago :-) soon enough!

legcramps - Friday Sep 10, 2010

Weight: 164.0

As I write, I am eating the most delicious cinammin bun EVER. Heck, i'm glorying in it. Like a really bad musical. "Tommy" would come close. Anyone ever see that? Crazy movie.

It rained like a son-of-a-gun yesterday so we didn't get to run. I'm tempted to get a gym membership so we can at least run on the treadmill, but they don't go on sale until October and... i'm cheap. Anyways, the rain woke me up twice during my sleeping time, so i'm in a bit of a funk this morning. I slept in as late as I possibly could, I haven't washed my hair - I barely even brushed it, and I probably look stoned because my eyes are so swollen from lack of sleep. But i'm not complaining.

I thought i'd give an update on the continuing dating saga of my dating life. There isn't much of an update, and it's not much of a saga, but whatever.

1) The guy (S) whose wife left him for my X is now after me. I assume he is playing some sort of tragic game where he tries to piss off his X so that she begs him to take her back. Child.

2) S scared away a guy (A) who I was genuinely interested in. Scared him away. We (a couple friends and myself) are trying to reel A back in, but it'll take some time. That blows.

3) The guy that messaged me through facebook (F) finally got back to me more than a week after I told him i'd go for coffee with him. He's taking off to Greece for a week and wants to go for coffee after he gets back. Or, you know, because he has two kids he says they take up a lot of his time and, you know, maybe there will never be coffee. But hey, how u doin?

4) I found out F cheated on his X and that's why they split - the split was fairly recent. I'm not fond of cheaters. I give people too many chances as it is.

5) Ball Team Stalker. I will attempt to avoid this at all costs.

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

RE: club memberships: lots of places give free 1-2 wk trials. You might try a few a those. That will allow you to use the treadmill PLUS check out a few gyms before the real memberships go on sale. October's less than a month away! Yipes!

Hey, at least your dating prospects are interesting at the moment! I'm envious of your rain. August was so dry here that a bunch of my herbs and annuals just died. Tommy was way over the top, to the point of being kind of funny! Roger Daltrey really does love himself, huh? I'm not a big fan of musicals, but if you're ever looking for something funny I suggest Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Hope you have a nice weekend!

I am sooo glad I am not out there dating. I may be separated from my husband (nine years now) but still married and definitely off the market, men!! one wonders if they are really worth the effort. Then you see one that makes your knees go weak and realise they have a special power over us. We must stay strong girls!!!! Surely there must be unattached uncomplicated men out there who have a brain, common sense, jobs and are not bad to look at. There are heaps of us women like that!!!

Get rid of all except A and start rounding up some new more available guys! :)

Weight: 164.0

The chicken ceasar salad I had yesterday was so yummy, i'm contemplating getting another one today for dinner.  I probably shouldn't waste my money like that, but I just love the stuff!

I don't have much to say today.  Dinner last night was very nice, then I went home and watched another episode of Being Human.  By 9:30, I was sleeping, and slept right through to this morning.  Today I need to drink lots of water so that hopefully running will go well tonight.  I also need to figure out what our running goal should be - last time, my friend ran 10 minutes and I ran 9.  Maybe it will be 12 minutes running tonight.  That sounds ok.

coffee

peanut butter and ww bun X 2

chicken ceasar salad??!

Progress as of today: 11 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

Caesar salad is my hubby's favorite salad! I love it too, especially from Bahama Breeze. So addicting! :)

Good luck with your run tonight!

I'm glad you're getting some good sleep. Have a nice run tonight!

I am glad you got a good nights sleep. I was remembering that a recent magazine was comparing Ceasar salad and some were really high cal and other were OK. I hope your's it OK, wouldn't that be great, something you love that loves you back. Have a great day.

Ceasar salad doesn't have to be expensive! Lately romaine has been on the cheaper side and I don't know how you feel about the light dressings, to me they taste just the same, grill up some chicken, and I love the dressing to be thoroughly mixed so i put the lettuce in a ziploc with the dressing and shake shake shake :)

I had a delicious ceasar salad this week, too. Have a good run!
