CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

In the private sanctuary of one's own conscience lies that spirit, that determination to cast off the old person and to measure up to                                                                           the stature of true potential......................................Thomas S. Monson

Today I am grateful for forgivness, weekends, a co-operative scale

Hello Gorgeous Girls, It is a cold Saturday morning in Sydney but it is going to be lovely and warm later, a little touch of spring. Yay!! I don't have anything planned for the day, I am not booked for any babysitting (now that is a rare thing), so I thought I would have an experiment with a lemon cheesecake I spotted on a recipe site the other day, fingers crossed this one doesn't end up in the bin!! The only problem with the season changing in that it is getting lighter in the morning earlier, so I wake up at 6 o'clock now, daylight saving will start in November - I think, and it stays dark a little later but not for long, as summer rolls in it will be light by 5 a.m. and I will be awake. It makes for a long day - I may even start walking again. I am not promising anything. I was walking four or five times a week this time last year, but I was also about 20lbs lighter. It is vaiinity, I don't want my wobbly tummy turning corners before the rest of me, well that's not exactly true, my breasts always get places nanoseconds before me!!!!!

Anyway, on the weight front - things are still looking pretty good, I can't resist hopping on each morning now that the scale is in a good mood, I speak nicely to it, hold onto the towel rail and lower myself down gently (so as not to shock it) and, bingo, it is acting nice in return. I do realise that I shouldn't be weighing myself everyday but I just can't resist this week, it is so rare for the machine to be co-operative.

I hope you have a good Friday evening and a wonderful weekend lovely women.

porridge, almonds

cruskits, vegimite, cream cheese,

chicken, snow pea, broccolini, noodle stir fry

lemon cheesecake, strawberries (the cheesecake was delicious, the rest of it is in the freezer out of harm's way)

veal T bone, cauliflower, green beans, peas, gravy, hot english mustard

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

KathyBlue on 08/27/2010:
I'm crazy about the scale as well... my friends were here, I couldn't get onto the scale for two weeks as it's upstairs and they were there all the time... :D

getmebackto150 on 08/27/2010:
Luckily I only have one brother and one brother in law... Both my husband and I have 1 sibling each... Hopefully it should be a while before any more brother occasions!!!

sweetpea1977 on 08/27/2010:
We dont know the gender of the baby yet, according to this doc newborn boys weigh more than newborn girls. We have to wait until the 20th week of pregnancy to find out (October). I was so hoping that we would find out next month at 16 weeks like we did with Ethan.

Anyway, yay for no babysitting. Even grandmas need breaks!! :) I hope the cheesecake turns out well!

sweetpea1977 on 08/27/2010:
Aunts and greataunts are great! I love how excited y'all are getting about this baby. I posted a lot during Ethan's pregnancy and had the same reaction. It brings a huge smile to my face! After he was born, I posted a lot of pictures of him and everyone drooled over how cute he was. I need to get back into the habit of posting photos again!

breakaway on 08/27/2010:
Moogy, NO, no offense taken at all. Don't worry about that :) You said nothing wrong at all. I appreciate the comment and I am one who loves any type of help at all. AND, I am also one who needs those "HEY WOMEN! what's going on! GET GOING!" type of comments LOL. I'm excited to get going and get started again. I look forward to getting to know you and many others here who are new to me :D Thanks again! Great menu btw :D Keep up the good work!

nita51 on 08/27/2010:
Thanks for understanding, Being a grand parent is awesome, until you have to do it full time. My hats off to the grand mothers & fathers who take on raising, their grand kids. Your today's menu looked yummmmmy. Have a great week end, and thanks for chatting with me.

Maria7 on 08/27/2010:
Glad to hear your scale is co-operating! :-D

That is wonderful that you were walking that much last year and are thinking about resuming it again. :-D

Hope you have a lovely Saturday afternoon!

geevee on 08/28/2010:
"In the freezer out of harm's way". So true. FUNNY entry about the scale.

cleaneating on 08/28/2010:
Thank you for your lovely comment, but really everyone here is such an inspriation. Good luck on the cheesecake front :) Maybe now that spring is arriving in your part of the world,a walk may seem so much nicer now,and all your little walks will add up.

Moody3 on 08/28/2010:
I hope you take this babysitting break and do something nice for yourself~let us know how the cheesecake turns out!!

Had to smile at your description of stepping on the scale~I am all too familiar with that process!!

It's just the opposite here..staying darker later in the mornings!! Fall is on its way and I am so ready!!

Wishing you a wonderful day!

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for: good food, new ideas, supportive people

Hello Lovely Ladies,  I feel so bad, yesterday I put up a web address for my daughter's new site and Umpqua found a fault, which was wonderful because it meant we could fix it. However, in all the messing around I lost some of your comments, for which I am now apologising. Your comments to me mean a lot and help me with the strength I need to keep going, your encouragement and support over these last few weeks have been a surprising and joyful thing to me. I am so glad that I found you. If anyone would still like to look at my daughter's site and become a subscriber (it's free) that would be wonderful the address is in yesterday's post, if  you look in the about me section you will see a picture of her and like I said yesterday I look like her only with auburn hair green eyes and nineteen years older.

Well, I had a good day food wise yesterday, I seem to be on a roll. I just got back from doing the shopping, a bit of weightlifting up the stairs with my booty (the food not my behind!!!!). I haven't got any goodies at all only food. Depressing in one way, not tweats today, I only have food in the house. Thanks to 2luvself I have an array of interesting wraps planned for the coming week, starting today, I am looking forward to my lunch. I hopped on the scale this morning to see if there was movement, and there was and it was in a downward way, I am not getting excited yet, I am just going to keep plodding along and hope it keeps going down for a big weigh in day on Tuesday - I am hoping to be able to give a big VOILA!!

I keep the above quote in the front of my food diary and it gives me strength and peace and helps me realise I have a higher potential.

I am wishing you girls a wonderful day.

porridge, almonds

toasted turkey, bacon, spinach, cranberry wrap (this lunch was absolutely delicious thanks for the inspiration 2luvself)

apple, pecans

seasoned chicken thigh, cauliflower, carrot, peas, gravy

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 08/26/2010:
Happy Friday to you!

meshmallow on 08/26/2010:
I love the quote! I may just end up stealing it and carry it around with me.

Maria7 on 08/26/2010:
If you scroll down a few entries, I think you may find the missing comments. As for the popcorn, I gave in yesterday and went to the grocery store and bought some. :-) Today I bought even more! Guess I don't want to crave it cause it's not here, hehehe! Tonite, I'm not craving it at all. I know what you mean about going to the store and buying groceries but not buying goodies. You bring it home and you think...what goodies did I buy??? And you realize the answer is NONE. That's what I did today. Hope you have a nice Friday. As for Hubby and me, it is beddy-bye for us over here on Thursday nite.

Breakaway on 08/26/2010:
Sounds like you are doing a wonderful job on the food. I will be starting that avenue on Aug 30th so I hope that it's easier then I think it will be. It's been years since I have tried dieting and to tell you the truth, I'm scared that I won't make it through Aug 30th! I wish you the best on your new journey and I pray you make it to your goals :D

Maria7 on 08/26/2010:
Moogy, Breakaway is a long-timer here, like me. (I read your comment to her and thought you might think she is new.) Just thought I'd tell you, cause you are getting to know some of us 'oldie-goldies' here. :-D (And are becoming one, yourself! :-D)

thinnside40 on 08/26/2010:
Mmmmmmmm...cranberries.... I buy mine from nutsonline... They are huge, plump and not sapped in as much sugar as the national brands.... But they are also easy to just grab a handful hear/there/everywhere and lose the benefit of their healthier side.... I have to discipline with EVERYTHING...munch munch and munch is my problem, even if it is healthy.....Too much of a good thing isn't a good thing....

Congrats on the predicted lower number...positive thinking!!!!!!!!!!

V on 08/26/2010:
Hi Moogy! I miss you too :( I have 3 full days left here and it is back to normal. I can't wait to catch up with you :)

KathyBlue on 08/27/2010:
I'm crazy about supermarkets. I understood this, came as a shock, when I went to the camping last week. There weren't any supermarkets around and I got crazy. Then I went to the convenient store inside the camping three times(!!!), didn't buy anything, and I felt great. This is bad. I know why it happens - because I have this huge supermarket next to this (workplace) building and we always go there to buy stuff. On a daily basis - and it rewires the brain, too... At least, I don't buy unhealthy/unnecessary stuff anymore - as you say, we can resist now. That's what I call progress! :)

sweetpea1977 on 08/27/2010:
lol, weightlifting with your booty. That made me laugh! Of course, your clarification made me laugh even harder. Thank you for your wonderful sense of humor! :)

Foods sound fantastic, especially that wrap. I have some leftover tortilla wraps, so I may try making a panini pressed wrap for lunch!

Umpqua on 08/27/2010:
I need to go grocery shopping this afternoon. You can be sure I won't be getting any treats!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/27/2010:
you left a comment saying you hope the new med are good for me? I don't take any meds....i tried once awhile back, but decided it was just a placebo effect. no meds for me.

biscottibody59 on 08/27/2010:
I'll get an entry in here soon--hope you have a great Saturday!

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful: that I live in a peaceful land, blessings, being healthy

Hello Gorgeous Girls, I had a good day yesterday and am planning on having another one today. I have my next few day of food already planned out working on the principle that planning prevents failure. I am enjoying my current program and am going to stick with it (hoping for a decent loss this week) until I get bored. There are always some things on one diet that you cant eat, on The Food Doctor program I don't get my Buttermilk Chocolate Cake but I can eat nuts. There never seems to be a diet where you get to eat just what you would like. Anyway, I am glad to have options, any diet works, it is just sticking with it that is the problem - but not today!!

My daughter came up while I was reading the diaries, very excited. She has recently started a review blog called Reviews for Aussie Moms and a publisher had read it and contacted her asking if she was a journalist or if she had written anything else. Well she has written lots of short stories which a publisher wanted to publish under contract for three books, so having four young children she just couldn't take the time needed to write more. But now with the princess going to school she can. The publisher has given her some publisher's name he wants her to send her work to - how exciting is that. I would love it if you would go to her site and register yourselves, it doesn't cost anything but would help her to get her subscriber numbers up so she can get more backing the address is,  www.reviewsforaussiemums.squarespace.com  thank you to those who help. I really appreciate it. Plus if you look in the about me section you will see a picture of her, I look like her only with auburn hair, green eyes and nineteen years older. LOL

Have a wonderful day ladies.

oat crisp cereal, skim milk, mixed seeds

raspberry smoothie

spaghetti bolognaise

prunes and pecans

honey sesame chicken, broccolini

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

Sorry girls, in all the messing around with the web site address I lost your comments.

Interesting I'll go check it out. Your turkey bacon wrap idea sounds tasty. Love your menu so far and hope that you have a great day.

Wow, thats exciting news about your daughter. I took a brief look at her website and your daughter is gorgeous!! And that makes you a stunningly beautiful lady too. :-)

Enjoy your foods! They sound wonderful, especially the spaghetti and chicken!

Umpqua on 08/25/2010:
Very nice site your daughter has, and I agree that she's so pretty! I would love to register but I can't figure out how to do it. I see a way to login for existing subscribers, but no way to register. I read the first book review and it's very well written!

Maria7 on 08/25/2010:
I took a brief look at her website as well (beddy-bye time over here) and y'all are beautiful people! :-)

As for eating nuts, I love them, but I try to not eat too much of them cause of their being high in calories. Hope you're having a nice Thursday! :-)

Sofia on 08/25/2010:
That's so exciting for your daughter! Congratulations to both of you :)

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for: a comfortable home, old photos, scented candles

Hello Wonderful Women, It's going to be a beautiful day here in Sydney. I was just typing in the date (I have to adjust it for my time) and was thinking how fast the years seems to be going now. I was wondering if it was because I was older or if younger people think time is passing quickly. I only seems about three months ago since it was new year's. I remember when I was a child time seemed to drag out forever, especially during the winter holidays when we were cooped up inside because of the snow (I was born in England).

I have been in a reflective mood over the past couple of days, this is what usually happens to me, and I was thinking of how hard we try to stick to our diets, admittedly we don't always succeed but the amount of thought, planning, soul searching and general effort we put in is huge. Anyway, I don't believe any of us are pigs who scarf down food in abandon, from what I can tell after being here for a while most of us are fighting against, bad genes (or good ones if we were in times of famine), medical problems, medication and we eat to make ourselves feel better for a whole pile of valid reasons. In my case a bad childhood and a couple of adult disaster's and I was thinking that if all I do is comfort eat after what I have been through I have actually done really well. Considering all the other options I could have chosen. I often tell other people to be gentle with themselves, meaning don't be to critical of yourself or judge yourself to harshly, I try to do that with myself. I am not sure If  I will ever be what I want to be but as long as I keep picking myself up when I stumble and keep moving forward, it counts, character is what you are when no one is looking. I know my Heavenly Father is looking and I need to strive to be the best me even if I fail - it's the striving that counts.

I told you I had been having a bit of a think. I still have a bit of cleaning to do, I was waylaid by the princess into doing some toilet paper roll craft with glue and fabric yesterday, hence the carpet now has extra adornments. Have a great day you lovely girls.

oat crisp cereal, skim milk, mixed seeds

cruskits, egg salad, alfalfa sprouts

roast lamb shank, roast pumpkin, cauliflower, green beans, peas, gravy, mint sauce

apple, almonds

fish fillet, corn on the cob (I was on vegie overload from lunch so I dropped the other vegies - sorry cleaneating - I just couldn't get anymore down today)

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/24/2010:
Moogy, you ROCK!!!! :-)

sweetpea1977 on 08/24/2010:
I love this entry. Thanks for posting it. I hope everyone reads it and remembers to be gentle with themselves when things don't go exactly as planned/hoped.

Thanks for the hug. Right back atcha moogy!

Sofia on 08/24/2010:
I totally agree with you. Thanks for posting such a sweet entry

Umpqua on 08/24/2010:
Yes Moogy, you do rock. And in the broader scheme of things, carpet adornments add interesting textures and colors to the environment. At least that's what I tell myself ;)

Umpqua on 08/24/2010:
Haha - fuzzy eyesight = artistic expression. I'm still very sleep deprived from last night ;) But still - with 2 toddlers I have had to relax my cleanliness standards a bit. So I know how that goes!

Maria7 on 08/24/2010:
What a WONDERFUL ENTRY!!!!! :-D Very uplifting!

Hope you are having a beautiful Wednesday and from the sound of how it looks in Sidney today, you are. Long time ago, there was a journal I used to like to keep up with of a woman in Sidney who called herself Grandma Jan...ever heard of her? Hers was a weightloss journal also. But she quit journaling years ago in her journal, which I think is still online public. If you're interested, I'll try to find the link to her journal. Maybe the 2 of you live close to each other. She was also a Christian.

Born in England? That's VERY interesting. Are you English or Australian? :-)

V on 08/24/2010:
Moogy you know I love you! I feel and hear everything you are saying! I am the first one to tell someone not to be so tough on themselves and on the other hand I get so upset when I am not losing weight quick enough. I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope you get your postcards soon :)

V on 08/24/2010:
Ps I am sure that you are still a looker ;)

healthygirl on 08/24/2010:
Moogy, I read your comments and questions. Thanks so much for taking the time. Yes, I agree, I am definitely triggered by sugar. I'm just really trying to learn to respect and heed what my body needs, so I bet as I get better at this my sugar intake decreases. . .we'll see :)

As for the coconut oil, you can definitely use it like olive oil. In fact, it is recommended as a substitute for butter in most baking recipes. My favorite way to eat it is to use it in the pan (as I would butter) when I prepare scrambled eggs. . . it makes the eggs taste delicious! But, like I said, I primarily drink it melted in hot tea. Because it is a healthy fat, it is not something I worry about in terms of low-cal diet. . . Most of the info I read says that it actually is burned long before it is stored as fat. I also think it demolishes sugar cravings, so I've actually lost weight when I eat it. . .And, yes, I usually try to eat it when I'm hungry as a snack, or at the end of a meal as "dessert" (tea with ccoil, sweetened with a bit of stevia). Hope that helps!!!!

thinnside40 on 08/25/2010:
I often think if I could/would rely upon the Heavenly Father as much to succeed, I would be much more successful.... Just hard to think that He would care so much about something like "downsizing", but the more we strive to be God-like, we should realize He created this ONE AND ONLY body for us to take care of the best we can... Food for thought for me at least....

KathyBlue on 08/25/2010:
I think most of us are not fighting against bad genes but habit. Habit is very inflexible and it's very difficult to overcome... A habit of eating ice-cream when arriving home, a habit of eating chocolate or popcorn while watching TV, a desire to get something we're emotionally connected to (having an ice-cream on the seashore where we always went when we were kids, having a nice coffee at the bar of the nearby commercial center where we used to meet friends, etc.) ... Good memories, connected with foods = emotional connection, desire, and the worse, HABIT.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/25/2010:
oh, you're from Sydney, Australia. that's cool - I have a friend living in Australia that I worked with one summer. She's one of the nicest people I know. Everyone is so nice in Australia - compared to New York, that is!

Yeah, we have a deal to get through this and make weightloss happen! I will continue to try, and try harder.

the chocolate in the oatmeal tastes good, and is a nice change of pace. I used to do it real often, and now i think i won't be able to do it so many days in a row, or it'll get old...

Maria7 on 08/25/2010:
Hope you're having a nice Wednesday evening. :-)

Maria7 on 08/25/2010:
Good Thursday morning to you, Moogy! Thanks for your comment to me...very encouraging! :-) Looking forward to reading your today's (26th)entry! :-D

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for: quietness, faith, people who love me

Hello Lovely Girls, It is 8.30 Tuesday morning, I am feeling low, but it is only hormones, it's a bit chilly but the sun in out. I have to visit a lady from church this morning, normally my daughter and I would go together, but she came up earlier and told me I would have to go by myself as she has "the mucus twins" downstairs - I mean, is that anyway to talk about the princess and the angel. They both have colds and apparently are a little "runny" - nice. I think I may stay away from them today - 'laughs to herself' - I have almost no chance of staying away from them or their mucus. Yuk!!

I must do some cleaning today, the princess mentioned yesterday that she thought I should pick the bits of the carpet (a mixture of tiny buttons, crackers, and debri - left by my grandchildren). Oh yes, it was weigh in day this morning, the reason I didn't mention it earler is that I have lost no weight, I lost that pound earlier in the week and I dare say I have lost another one but who knows, TOM has got in the way of an accurate reading, so I will await another mid week hop on the scales. Hormones, who needs them!!!!!

I hope you girls have a great day, those that had bad weekends, pick yourselves up and dust yourselves off, those that had good ones - keep up the good work.

oat crisp cereal, skim milk, mixed seeds

cruskits, egg salad, alfalfa sprouts

chicken, snow pea, broccolini, noodle stir fry

apple and almonds

prawns and hot chocolate

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

just42day on 08/23/2010:
Quite a few of us are forgetful @ meatless Monday. There's always next week!

sweetpea1977 on 08/23/2010:
hahaha, mucus twins. Thats cute! :)

TOM always screws up my weigh-in, so I normally just skip that week and make sure I get enough water to flush all the water retention away.

I hope you have a happy and healthy day!!

Maria7 on 08/23/2010:
Hope they feel better and hope you're having a nice Tuesday! :-)

getmebackto150 on 08/23/2010:
Hormones can really mess with you!!! I just noticed your comment about my drinking beers but it only being preseason... LOL.... Luckily, we really only follow one team closely... They only play once a week... And we have my stepdaughter every other sunday, so we go somewhere family friendly to watch the game and I usually don't even get a beer those days... So... I'm not in TOO much trouble... Its usually only 4-5 times a season that I really have a beer and football day! Thanks again for your comment on my run!!!!! I do like the mucus twins:) I can totally imagine... But I would have a hard time staying away as well!!!

thinnside40 on 08/23/2010:
Hope your day has been a good one....

Hormones ~ Blah!!!!!!!

healthygirl on 08/23/2010:
A few days ago, you asked me about coconut oil, so I wanted to share with you that oconut oil really helps me. . .I can tell that my body is healing itself when I increase my consumption of it. . . If you are interested, google "Coconut oil + Health" and "Coconut Oil + Candida". . . All I can say is that I really like it and can tell a difference in my skin (very clear), digestion (great), and energy level when I use coconut oil.

V on 08/23/2010:

Hi! It's a menu adapted from info I read on this book: "The Fat-Burning Bible: 28 Days of Foods, Supplements, and Workouts That Help You Lose Weight by Mackie Shilstone". As I am only on my second day, I can't say if it will be easy to follow or not...

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for: more rain, working technology, daisies

Hello Lovely Ladies, Well, all seems working on the technology front, this thing has held steady for about 18 hours now, so whatever was wrong seems to be fixed!!! Yay!! The day before weigh in today and of course as I predicted yesterday TOM has arrived, I would like to point out this is six days early - I am pretty sure I must be pre-menapausal, well I hope so anyway.!!

I am restocking the fridge today, I need more vegies  - then a bit of cleaning, I can't do any washing today becausing it's RAINING, whoo hooo,  today I have three bookings, the princess for her after nap visit, the big boys for their afternoon tea and my daughter - we are watching Masterchef UK together everynight. I expect the angel will bang on the door downstairs and shout for her nanna peas. So cute, she can't say please, so we always make her say peas for anything she wants.

Anyhow, I better make a start on your diaries, see what you did with your Sunday. Lots of love to you all girls.

porridge, mixed seeds

apple, peanut butter

BLT

bodywise bar. almonds

chicken casserole

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

There was a discussion in the forums section of the site about the DD Retreat. You can find it here: http://www.dietdiaries.com/forum-readmessage.cfm?messageID=4610&category=General%20Discussion&categoryID=2014. This year's retreat is in Georgia, but there's talk of planning one for next year as well so people have some advance notice. Hope you're having a great evening/morning there!

Thank you very much for your words of advice on saturday, I don't know how to win this battle... I can only sacrifice so much and I've reached my point... I now need him to sacrifice for this relationship, but I don't know if he will... At this point as of right now I think we are taking a break for a week and than reassessing our relationship after the week and seeing what we are willing to keep and give up for this relationship...we shall see how it goes...

biscottibody59 on 08/23/2010:
Thanks for your lovely and supportive comment--I'm working on it and I know I deserve to feel good!

Hope you have a good week and your cold weather is well behind you!

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for: the feedom to worship, blossom, the laugh of a kookaburra

Hello Girls, I am back, I was off line for about forty hours due to our server going down. I felt like I had had my right arm cut off. It is strange how used to having instant access to information and support we have become, how on earth did we manage without e-mail and google, let alone DD's. I have been plodding along staying more on track than less, yesterday was a bit rough, computer down and I was feeling a bit down myself. Went to church this morning and am feeling better now although I am really tired. A sure sign that I am cycling down in my depression routine, it usually happens when I am due for TOM and then I slowly cycle back up as the month continues. Anyhow, I am off to read all your diaries and catch up with what has been going on while I have been gone, feels like ages.

Food for today is a little unplanned: no breakfast, 1/2 bacon sandwich, almonds. Not sure what I will eat for the rest of the day, I am planning on having a big sleep this afternoon.

Oh Oh, I am dropping in and out, I am not sure how long this connection is going to last, we shall see!!!

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 08/21/2010:
Maybe you can drag out the buttons and play with them while the server is down:-)

Enjoy your sleep--and have a good evening then!

Thanks for the kind words. I hope your server is cooperative!

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for, seasons, good memories, bird song

Good Morning Girls, It is 7.20am in Sydney and it's going to be a lovely day. It was so warm yesterday afternoon I had to change out of winter clothes and wear a summer nightie!!!! I keep expecting winter to charge back for an encore but with only less than a week to go he had better get a wriggle on.

So, anyway, you girls would have been so proud of me, just before dinner time last night my daughter called up for an emergency dash to the hardware shop (needed hooks immediately apparently) and asked if I would go with her. OK not a problem, until after we have been to the shop she announces that she is picking up McDonald's for the children as a treat. So, I'm hungry, well starving really, you know how you get on a diet, she pulls up and goes in (they always get the order wrong - so she checks the bags now!) asks me if I want anything (they even have heaps of pretty healthy stuff now) and I say...............NO!!!!!! Not even a chocolate sundae!!!!! I am sure you understand how hard this was, but I asked myself how I would feel typing in that I had buckled when I have already had my treat for the week. I thought about how important it was that I keep going forward and not let food be in charge of me. I was really pleased.

I was lovely to read all the comments from yesterday and find that so many of us have lovely memories of special cakes being made, cake does seem to hold a special place in our cultures as a food of celebration and memory. I really enjoyed reading about your feelings around cakes.

Have a wonderful day girls, I hope it is cooling down a little if you are still suffering in the heat - I feel for you - I know that summer is lurking behind these deceptively lovely days.

oat crisp cereal, skim milk, mixed seeds

cruskits, egg salad, alfalfa sprouts

fish fillet, oven baked chips, peas, coleslaw

strawberry rosewater cheesecake (this was a new recipe, but it really didn't work without real cream and using artificial sweetener, I ate one individual serve and threw the rest out - I shall press forward with my experimenting!)

honey sesame chicken, broccolini

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 08/19/2010:
Yes, you are in winter, looking forward to spring and we are in summer, looking forward to fall. WOW. :-)

Umpqua on 08/19/2010:
Good on you for resisting McDonald's! My tempation is Burger King - same poison nonetheless. I know they have healthy choices now but it is all processed garbage in the end and it's better to avoid it. (Easier said than done, I know). Bravo!!

sweetpea1977 on 08/19/2010:
YAY! Good work on saying no to Mickey D's! My fast food temptations are Arby's (their roast beef sandwiches, curly fries, and jamocha shakes, oh my!), Chickfila (best fast food chicken sandwiches with waffle fries and thick creamy shakes), and Steak N' Shake (burgers made out of ground steak and the BEST fast food milkshakes EVER!!). I used to eat McD's and Burger King twice a day five times a week for about 5 years straight. I thought it was much more convenient to run out and buy my breakfast and lunch when I worked in downtown Atlanta. I ended up gaining about 40 lbs eating that way!! I rarely treat myself to fast food nowadays, unless we are traveling out of town and need something quick. Anyway, congrats on avoiding the fast food. Thats awesome!!

I am 10.5 weeks along now. Only a couple more weeks and I will be out of the first trimester! Its still pretty hot here, with temps reaching the low to mid 90's (F). Its the high humidity levels that make it feel even worse. Thankfully, fall will be here next month!!

skinnygrlwithin on 08/19/2010:
I did my best...now I need to figure out dinner... sushi maybe? lol

biscottibody59 on 08/19/2010:
Good for you sticking to your guns!

geevee on 08/20/2010:
You deserve a BIG gold star for your resistence yesterday! It's very hard to do

cleaneating on 08/20/2010:
You are were so good yesterday, thats real determination to have that food right there at your hand and you said no,thats gotta feel good :) Enjoy your day.

selina on 08/20/2010:
so proud of you! And, yes, we know how hard it is to say NO!

We've had very cool weather all over the summer, except for a couple of weeks of a heat wave... I guess that's why so many people (with money) decide to settle down in this neck-o-the-woods.

nita51 on 08/21/2010:
Hey there,,,,I am very proud of you. Keep up the great job. Take Care!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/21/2010:
yeah, sometimes those sugar free and low fat things need further experimentation! I've had failed attempts too, not at baking a cheesecake, but definitely with more simple things.

as for me, no chocolate oatmeal yet...but it will come!

i am doing good!

Maria7 on 08/21/2010:
Hope you're doing okay.

CHERISH LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Today I am grateful for: my comfortable bed, being pain free and rain

Good Morning Lovely Ladies, It is going to be a quiet day today, for which I am grateful, the past couple of days have been a little on the busy side. My daughter didn't organise herself very well - having two babies one day after each other!! I can just see myself in a couple of years being up to my neck in cake batter for 48 hours straight as the angel realizes she can choose anything she likes for her cake. I should point out that I have always made my children special birthday cakes (even for a 36 year old daughter - remember the paris brest) and now it has become a tradition that I make my grandchildren's cakes.  It could be a castle and a butterfly next year!!!

I have a little light cleaning and a little light cooking planned for today, and a little light nanna napping. Have a wonderful day girls.

porridge, yogurt, mixed seeds

cruskit, vegimite, cream cheese

prawns, coleslaw

bodywise bar, almonds

veal T bone, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, gravy, hot english mustard

Update: The eating day is nearly over and I have had a good day, there have been quite a few people around during my daytime which has been lovely. I hope you lot have a good day while I get a good night's sleep. Love you girls!

Progress as of today: 2.8 lbs lost so far, only 57.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 08/18/2010:
What a wonderful Grandma they have. To bake cakes for them! That is sooo sweet! I like what you wrote that you are thankful for. Some things that we take for granted are such big blessings from the Lord. We should thank Him every day. You must be a very good cake-baker indeed, knowing how to make cake castles and cake butterflies! How exciting! Enjoy your Thursday...we are soon to go beddy-bye this Wednesday nite. :-)

just42day on 08/18/2010:
You are a wonderful grandma and I'm sure your family appreciates everything you do. Hope you got your nanna nap in. :)

sweetpea1977 on 08/18/2010:
You are such a wonderful grandmother!! You remind me so much of my mom. When my mom and dad were dating, she would bake special birthday cakes for all my dad's siblings and his parents. I think thats how she won them all over. She didnt have much a family, so when she met my dads she connected with them and spoiled them like crazy! Anyway, she continued the tradition with me and my sister on our birthday. Those were the best cakes ever...made with so much love! :)

I've been to a few therapists to talk about my mom's death, but not recently. Not sure why I quit going other than life getting really busy. Anyway, thanks for the sweet comment. Ethan is always giving me hugs and kisses and tells me he loves me, which I think is his way of telling me Im a good mommy!

Umpqua on 08/18/2010:
That is great about the cakes! I've done all my boys cakes and the requests are getting more difficult. I'm excited about my oldest's 4th birthday coming up in December, can't wait to find out what he will want. I hope you have an excellent day.

biscottibody59 on 08/18/2010:
I'm smiling (those pesky professionals) and I'm going to keep the faith--until it seems futile. This after reading your comments to me.

So I thought you bought that cake and just explained how to make it--the one with almonds--Wow!

I have made apple strudel--from scratch--where you stretch the dough to nearly paper thin. I do enjoy baking a little more than cooking (mostly). Strudel's one of the most ambitious things I've made, though I haven't made one in years.

I do like a German Chocolate Cake--you may call it something else--it's a lighter colored chocolate cake with caramel/coconut/pecan frosting. (It's called "German" because of the brand of chocolate that originally came up with the recipe--technically I guess it should be "German's"--maybe it was.)

Have a good day/evening!

healthygirl on 08/18/2010:
Thanks so much for your comment, Moogy. I'm hoping this site can help hold me accountable as I regain my health :)

thinnside40 on 08/19/2010:
RE: Pumpkin n oatmeal~ About 1/2 cup of canned in the oats while they cook...Sometimes add honey or Splenda (to taste) with a spalsh of FF milk.... Also when I have some shelled out I put in a handful of walnuts.... Last year I froze some pumpkin from our garden and that was yummers!!!!!!!!!

Healthy&HappyMe on 08/19/2010:

geevee on 08/19/2010:
I can't wait to get out my crockpot and start the porridge at night so it'll be ready for son Billy at dawn. I will be thinking of you while wolfing it down!

cleaneating on 08/19/2010:
Homemade cakes are the best, well anything homemade is! My favourite cake is a cake my mum used to bake all the time,I now have her recipes and make the cake sometimes,it takes me right back to when I was a little girl :) I hope you got some good sleep.
