(anti-inflammatory, per Dr. Weil)
Weight: 174.6

I was worried about what my splurge would do yesterday, but the scale was exactly the same this morning. I really overdid on the salmon cakes, then followed up with some TJs dark chocolate. All foods I can have, but this wasn't moderation :) No damage done, but I can't do that again.

I have noticed several of us mentioning extra hunger/cravings/ravenousness. I wonder, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, if it could be seasonal? Are our bodies trying to say, "stock up for winter?" Are my few Native American genes expressing themselves in a fear of the starving times, which of course, never come these days? Am I getting ready to go into hibernation? Just wondering....

Anyway, back to basics today. No harm, no foul, so carry on from here. I am about 4.6 lbs from my first goal, and about 7-8 from the halfway mark. The evil meringues are gone and they will not cross the threshold of my house again. I have to keep my eye on the prize - health, fitness, and buying a really little dress on my 2nd honeymoon in Italy....if I ever make it to Italy lol.

Breakfast: oatmeal (150) strawberries (36) coffee w/cream (45) total: 231

lunch: veggie soup (I will add some garbanzo beans to it for protein) (190)

dinner: baked trout (225), baked apples (120), cabbage salad (75), brown rice (108) total:  528   Change of plans - we are going out to dinner tonight before our (local) symphony orchestra concert. (Royal Oak symphony orch - doing their "spooky" Halloween concert!

snack: tbd, prob an apple....110

tonight may be cocktail night, too - so that will add 151 calories.

daily total: (will revise with what I actually do eat) 1210

Off to the vet this am with Laney Louise. She is still peeing next to the litter box about 2x a week, and we've tried everything. Can't figure out what she is trying to tell us, so we're checking for a UTI. Don't want to get her adopted and then returned because she wont' use the box. So off we go to see the doctor....

Have a good Friday, everyone.

Progress as of today: 29.4 lbs lost so far, only 44.6 lbs to go!

The rainy cold dark weather always makes me want warm things... and probably to snack more too.

(anti-inflammatory, per Dr. Weil)
Weight: 174.6

I crushed a clove of garlic into my water/fiber/oj supplement drink this morning, and it was tolerable. I like garlic. this is per the suggestion from SkinnyGrl that it might help with my blood pressure. BP was ok last night, up this morning. When I say "Up" I don't mean dangerous, going to kill me immediately, just much higher than I want. Last night was 121/71. This morning was 134/93, which is way too high. :( We'll see if the garlic, along with continued weight loss, won't start to help. I'm still avoiding salt, and alcohol (with the 1 drink a week exception), and sticking to my anti-inflammatory diet, with the exception of the deceitful meringues which, fortunately, will be gone today!

I'll have leftovers for dinner tonight, since we're seeing our granddaughter this afternoon, and I am not very versed at cooking with a 1-year old. Plus, I'd rather play with her than cook, anyway. So husband is getting a sandwich from the pizza place to get his "junk-food" fix, and I will be eating last night's dinner again. Good thing I like my own cooking :)

breakfast:  oatmeal (150) strawberries(36) coffee w/cream (45) total: 231

lunch: black beans w/salsa (175), cabbage salad (65)  apple(80) total: 320

dinner: salmon cakes (296) remoulade (35) cabbage salad (100) total: 406

snack: remaining meringues with my tea: 90, baked apple (120) (had to adjust dinner, since I ate this baked apple, but it was sooo good :)

This plan went out the window in the early evening...I ate 2 bowls of veggie soup (very low cal, homemade) then I finished off the salmon cakes - I was so hungry!

total for the day: probably about 1700 - a LOT more than I am allowed. This is the first time I've gone "crazy" with the food since I started this....at least it was healthy food. Sigh. I'll get back to sanity tomorrow.

Nice to see new people on here, good luck to everyone!

Good luck with the garlic and have a great day.

skinnygrlwithin on 10/23/2014:
I hope the garlic works out for you! I know there are a couple other food items that are supposed to be good for lowering bp, I'll see if I can find them in one of my books... I can't remember of the top of my head.

museumgirl on 10/23/2014:
thanks. I know garlic is awesome for lots of things. My husband will eat tons of it when he's coming down with a cold and it works every time. He'll eat it until its basically coming out his pores!! I just hope I don't start to smell too bad!

You had vegetable soup when you were super hungry & not junk food. That's great.

To SGW's comment on garlic below, it's actually allicin in crushed garlic that affects blood pressure.

Weight: 175.0

I've been getting in a walk almost every evening, and have been keeping busier during the daylight hours, just to keep myself going and avoid any temptation to snack. Weight has been creeping down, but bp is not really moving and I don't know why. I was fine on this dose of meds for a while now suddenly it's ticked up. Perhaps it is the restaurant food (salt/sodium). Frustrating, since this is a lifestyle change for me and eating out once in a while has to figure in the plan. I try to chose things that are fresh and not processed, but even then, everything is always salted.

I increased my potassium supplements to try and help with it, but I guess it isn't enough. I use no salt at home. Ok, sometimes I put 1/4 tsp in a large recipe if it really, really needs it. I cook everything from scratch, so I don't really know what is going on with the bp. i really don't want to increase the dosage, but I may have to. I will give it one more week.....

I am concerned because high bp runs in my family, along with a genetic heart problem. My mother, her dad, and two brothers all had it. Two of them dropped dead from sudden heart attacks, one at age 53, and my mom had a stroked at 66. She was not overweight, walked 2 miles a day and ate a really, really healthy diet.  (sorry to unburden myself here, but you can see why I am concerned.) And then there is diabetes on the other side of the family. I kind of got the genetic perfect storm.....and being overweight will only kill me quicker.

Well enough whining.

Breakfast; oatmeal (150) 6 strawberries (35) coffee w/cream (45) total: 230

lunch: black beans w/tomatoes (275) apple (80)

dinner: zucchini/mushroom enchiladas on spelt tortillas. (new recipe, but it looks and smells pretty good!) 400; large honeycrisp apple (110) guacamole (50) total: 560

snack: meringues with my tea: 90

daily total: 1235

Have a great day everyone. :)

OhioRaven on 10/22/2014:
Sounds to me as if you are doing all you can. Nice open post today.

skinnygrlwithin on 10/22/2014:
Have you ever tried eating raw garlic? It's known to reduce blood pressure. You're supposed to slice it very thinly to release the...I think it's called lecithin...could be wrong about that. But anyway, check it out! My parents did it every morning for years!! They'd slice it up real thin and take it with oj to cut the taste. Another good side affect is they never had a cold either. It's worth looking into. And I say go real garlic, not the garlic pills. My best friend has high bp so I know how scary it can be.

museumgirl on 10/22/2014:
thanks! I have used garlic in the past for various things, but didn`t know it lowered bp. we cook with lots of garlic, but I will try the clove in the morning

Rainy Monday, but at least it isn't snowing (yet.)

Actually, I like snow, for about the first three months of it.....

Weighed the same this am as yesterday, despite eating Chinese food, which usually swells me beyond belief. So I take that as a good sign one way or the other. :)

Back to "normal" eating for me after a weekend of a few wonderful splurges. I think the splurges broke the little plateau, but that only works if I don't keep eating extra stuff on a regular basis.

Breakfast: back to the old oatmeal and plum and coffee/wcream ( 225)

lunch: chinese veggie soup we didn't east last night (100) apple (80)

snack: brussels sprouts, roasted in oven with olive oil (196)

dinner: salad (125) mushroom ravioli (250) with olive oil/zucchini/garlic sauce (me-made) (250?) total: 625

 Happy Sunday!!!

Taking my girls (kitties) to an adoption event today. Hopefully someone will see them and fall in love. They are the sweetest kitties, too bad they love everyone except each other!

Scale is finally moving again, yippee! I have to focus on the positive and not how far I still have to go. I am not very patient sometimes, and this is about where I usually give up and say, ah well, this is good enough. But I need to stay focused and lose to my goal, or at least close to it. Technically still overweight, so I do not want to stop here.

I'm 5 pounds from my first goal, which was going to be a new brassiere, but I actually needed new bras already, and bought some of the same size - the others were stretched out - and I think these will work for at least the next 10 pounds. Hopefully. Also ordered a new piece of shapewear (read girdle - elastic tubes do not work for me!) since I don't have anything that works anymore - either too large or way too small. Can't believe I'm sharing undergarments with the world here, but hey, we all wear something, don't we? And it gives me a mental lift to look better whatever my size. :)

brunch: 2/3 of a 3-egg vegetable omelet with feta, coffee w/cream total: ~550?

dinner: vegetable subgum, no noodles or rice ~450??? I couldn't really find too muh info on this. I ate a lot of the veggies! leftover piece of fish (120)

snack: 2 small plums (60) walnuts (85)

total (so far): 1265

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. It is sunny and cold here, great day for a hike. I'll be thinking of you while I'm at work :)

 Good morning everyone,

Had such a nice time last evening on our "date night." it was pretty low-key, but that's the way we are :) Made healthy choices for dinner, and enjoyed my one weekly cocktail thoroughly!

This morning, feeling decadent, mr husband brought me a croissant from the real French bakery by our house. What a treat. They actually use a real French steam oven and these things are a-may-zing! They are not the gigantic, head-sized croissants you usually see, either, they are about hand-sized, and totally wonderful. So yeah, I ate it. And I'm not sorry! :)

Breakfast: croissant (50g) (210) coffee w/cream (45) total: 255

lunch: leftovers-1 falafel (57), some garlic sauce (120) , burghul (120)  and a little of some lentil stuff (45) total: 342

dinner: pan fried cod (250) salad (125) endives (30) meringue (1, from the awesome French bakery! (30) green beans (30) total: 465

snack: 1/2 croissant (shared with the husband :) and a plum (30) total: 135

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Happy Friday everyone! This is my Saturday, since I work Sunday, so made a special breakfast, and the husband and I are going out to dinner tonight to a middle eastern place. (I got a great dress at the thrift, and need a place to show it off, lol)

Breakfast: 2 eggs (120) tsp olive oil (40) campari tomato (15) tbls feta cheese (25?) 1/2 avocado (175) coffee w/cream (60) total: 435

maybe I better skip lunch, or at least eat something really light!

lunch; 1/2 avocado, (175) cauliflower from last night (45)

dinner; out - I will chose before we go and stick to that. Probably a salad, but I will have to have some of that garlic/olive oil whipped sauce they make!

NOTE: I did eat a good bit of the garlic sauce - about  heaping tablespoon, a nice salad, 1 falafel, 1 grape leaf, a couple tablespoons each of hummus and babaganoush, and a little triangular spinach pie. Probably 500-600 calories? I didn't eat the warm bread (ah) or the rice.

Later we walked up to our favorite watering hole for our weekly cocktail - 151 calories

I am counting today as: 1400-1600

This is a lifestyle, so there will be days to just enjoy food and good company. This was our date night, and we had a good time. And even got in a walk. :)

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Progress as of today: 27 lbs lost so far, only 47 lbs to go!

 Good morning!

Took a nice walk last night - was so tired I didn't want to, but glad I went. Slept great and feel better this morning.

if my math is correct, every 1/10 pound on my scale is about 1.6 ounces. So a loss of .2 is about 3 oz, or 1.5 tablespoons of butter gone from the old frame. Most likely from my feet, haha. Every little bit counts, right?

Got my brows and lashes done this morning- I have the greys tinted and won't go near the eyebrows with tweezers myself, it would be a disaster!

Breakfast: oatmeal (150) plum (30) coffee w/cream (45) total: 225

lunch: leftover veggie lasagna (375) apple (80) total: 455

dinner: slice ezekial bread (80) 2 tbl peanut butter (210) cauliflower, roasted - and lots of it! 250 total: 540

total for the day 1220

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone. Have a great day.

Keeping with the plan, clothes are looking/fitting better. I'm sure scale will move again soon. This is the first "plateau" of sorts, so I guess I have been lucky.

Meeting went well last night. It was a bit long, but we got a lot of things accomplished. Didn't get a walk since all it did was pour rain all day and night. I will walk in light rain but not in a downpour!

Breakfast: oatmeal (150) plum (30) coffee with cream (45) total:  225

lunch: veggie stuffed pepper (250) apple (80) total: 330

dinner: spaghetti w/homemade marinara (sorta) (325) salad (120) total: 445

snack: olives (120) apple (80) total: chocolate (90)

Moving this post to here, since I put up two in one day, and didn't need to :)

Thanks everyone for the very nice comments you made on the other post.

These aren't for anyone to necessarily comment on, I just figured I'd keep a record here...me today and me a month ago. Same cardi, different skirt - one size smaller. Yes, my chest looks enormous in today's pic...just my particular choice of undergarment for the day! Probably my legs would look better if I wore sheer tights, but I didn't have any clean lol.

Just for the record. 8 pounds
