 So, I minor miracle today - I actually made my year end goal!!! I don't know how I did it, since I was up almost 3 pounds at Christmas last week, but other than extra cocktails (It IS the season...) i have been excellent in my food choices and amounts, so I thought I would come close. And then, I woke up this morning feeling....just puffy. hands, face, everything, felt like I am retaining a ton of fluid, so i figured, oh well, maybe next week, but I'll weigh like I said I would.....

159.8. I have not been under 164 since 1998, when I actually got down to 147 for about 10 minutes lol.

BMI is 26.6, down from a starting point of 33.9. I am now only 10 pounds overweight. I cannot describe that feeling. Twenty-nine + pounds from the goal, but only 10 pounds clinically overweight.....

When I met with my counselor last week, instead of doing resolutions, we talked about accomplishments of the past year. I realized then, that I have made so much progress toward getting my life back this year. I have worked on being true to myself, letting go of what other people expect of me, which has made me actually able to be more helpful and loving, not selfish. I think maybe being self conscious, and even letting other people control your life, is not really productive at all. But when you are confident in what you are doing, you can be more sensitive to other people, as well, and actually do what needs to be done. 

Does that make sense? Maybe it is too cryptic, but I am not trying to get philosophical. Just reflecting on the freedom of accepting myself for what I am, where I am now, and who I am, and understanding that I am a valuable person - we are all valuable, just the way we are. Not when we lose 10 more pounds, or finish college, or get a promotion, or make more money....now.

So enough of that deep stuff. It's NYE, and we are going to dinner with our friends Lynn and Brian, to the Ethopian restaurant - vegan, yaay!! (meat too, but not all mixed together lol.) Husband LOVES this place and so does my friend Lynn, so it should be a fun evening. then back to our house to play with the cats and see in the new year.

I wish everyone out there who is celebrating, or just reflecting tonight, a very happy day. And those who are bidding good riddance to the year, as well. See ya all next year!!

Congratulations you have certainly put in the work to attain this goal. You are right about taking care of yourself and being true to yourself brings out the best in us and create a positive outlook on life and the people around us. Good morning everyone! 2014 is finally winding down, and I must say it was a much better year than 2013, and especially 2012. What happened this year? I got my life back. :)

Breakfast: oatmeal, peaches, decaf coffee

lunch: vegetable soup

dinner: going out to Outback Steakhouse- we got a gift certificate. I will probably have the baked potato, provided I can get it plain and not "dressed" as they advertise on the menu, and the fresh veggies, provided they can steam them and not drown them in butter lol..

Some restaurants are easier than others. For the record, if you are trying to go oil-free vegan, do not go to Macaroni Grill - the only thing on their lunch menu that is vegetarian is a tomato soup, and it actually had oil floating on top! Everything there is drown in oil; the waiter actually poured a dish of the oil while he took our drink orders! Needless to say, I was happy I had eaten a very late breakfast!

Our other favorite place, which is not a chain, is Big Bear Lodge,and they obligingly offered a plain baked potato and steamed broccoli without anything added, and it was delicious. Cheap, too. My husband jokes that I am a cheap date now, since I will have the baked potato and a glass of water lol.

Anyway, before dinner,  we are going to see the Wild Lights display at the Detroit Zoo. I've never done it, shoud be fun :)

Very cold here today, but the sun is shining and it is beautiful. I hope everyone is enjoying a good day wherever you are, and getting the most out of the finaly days of this year :)

You have given a few new things to try out this Winter - I will start using less oil - broth instead of oil in pan for veg and other things you have mentioned. I will let you know how that works out. Yes I also will look back on 2014 as a years of great changes and new directions. Thank you again I really enjoy your posts.

thank you, that is nice of you to say. Yes, I actually like the broth - I can taste the veggies more, and some things, like mushrooms, actually cook better without just absorbing oil and burning :)

Scale said 160.7 this morning, so I am almost back down to my pre-binge weight :)

Enjoying my time off this week before jumping back into things in January.

Breakfast today was.....not oatmeal! I was just in the mood for vegetables, so I ate some of the soup I made a couple days ago. So good and fillng and hot. chased that with some decaf coffee, now I am ready for the day!

lunch will probably be more soup, and dinner, possibly some polenta with salsa and some fruit.

Haven't done much in the way of exercise this past week, but still feeling better and better and clothes are fitting better.

Not much to report today - food is really good, though. Weight is less than 2 pounds from my goal. I don't think I will make it by the end of the year, but it will be close. :)

We scored big on our scavenging today - on our way to the flea, we found 5 - count 'em 5! - antique fir doors in the trash!!!!! One will be our new table. I am hoping perhaps mr husband can scavange the others into paneling for our breakfast nook. Maybe not, but that is fantastic wood, that you can't find today, that was headed for a landfill......as a preservationist, this causes me physical pain!! They are safe for now. Phew!

So anywhoooo., my food was good today, oatmeal for breaky, and fruit, decaf coffee... lunch was some of my leftover veggies with brown rice pasta, and then hummus with ww pita, and dinner was polenta with vegetables. I did, however, have a couple of cocktails. This is vacation still, after all :) On the whole, good food. I am surprised at how absolutely satisfying this menu of veggie-based, oil free foods is....not sure if I will lose weight, but my bp is dropping, which is awesome!

I hope everyone is still enjoying the holidays. I am looking forward to NYE - dinner out with friends at an Ethiopian restauarant - vegan easy!!! And our friends love the place, too. then back to our house to see in the new year. This has been a year of wonderful blessings, and my new friends are definitely among them. And so are you people here on this blog. thank you for being part of this journey toward health. I feel like I have my life back. :)

Down a little over a pound from my post-holiday splurge, so while I may not make my goal exactly, I will be close enough for happiness. When I consider I set that goal over 20 pounds ago, and it was difficulty to know the rate of loss over such a long time, I think I figured pretty well on the whole.

Breakfast: oatmeal w/flax seed, 1/2 banana and decaf coffee

lunch: homemade vegetable soup

dinner: possibly something with my homemade black bean hummus....still to be planned :)

Off again to find the elusive kitchen table. We are having fun scavenging, at least. Replaced our bathroom light, too, with a really cool, art moderne style. It gives more light in that windowless space and its pretty cool :)

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. It is raining her again, today, seems it has rained for a week at least. Yesterday was sunny, but other than that.....Everyone is thankful it isn't snow, but I would rather look at snow. I am that oddball who likes winter....Good thing, considering where I live

 So I did overdo it for the last 2  days, but it was planned. Christmas comes but once a year, so they say, and I have been very, very good since the beginning of August, lost over 40 pounds, and this splurge will definitely be the last for a while!

I did well at dinner - ordered the vegetable subgum and no rice. But there was candy, and cocktails and dessert, all of which I decided before hand I would have, so it was not a break down of willpower or anything.

So today we are back to sensibility, as I promised yesterday. The extra calories equal about 2 pounds, I think, although the scale showed 3 this morning, which is probably retained water, etc. I expect 2 of those to be gone within the next 2 days, and I should still make my year-end goal. 

I found that feeling good in my clothes, and not wanting to hide from the camera, is much more satisfying than eating junk calories.

Even my daughter in law commented on how nice I looked, which was really a surprise. I think good health shows through :)

So today may be some shopping - we want a "new" antique kitchen table for the banquette area we are making, and we need to exchange some boots we bought for our son for a different size, so that is the plan for today.

Hope everyone who celebrated Christmas had a wonderful time, and those whose Chanukah just ended also. And those who don't celebrate, well, hope you had a plain old good day.

update: today's food:

 breakfast - ww pita with mushrooms and tomato cooked without oil

lunch: baked potato (plain) and steamed broccoli

dinner: homemade black bean hummus with ww pita

total calories: less than 1000, but that's ok, since I over-ate the last 3 days :)

also made a pot of vegetable soup to last me several meals - yum!

On toward the new year!

Happy Christmas to everyone! and if you don't celebrate, happy day at least.

Ate everything not tied down or made of plastic the last 2 days, so I probably gained a pound, but so what, it is the holidays and tomorrow is back to being sensible.

wore my new (vintage) christmas dress today and looked and felt amazing. had a wonderful time with family, especially the granddaughters, who are so wonderful and growing up so fast!

Santa brought me almost everything I wanted, so I must have been a good girl this year. :)

Tomorrow is back to sensibility and enjoying several more days off, which is such a treat!

Good morning all!!! I am getting excited for Christmas but very disappointed we will be getting rain instead of snow. Yuck. Sigh.

Scale did bounce up this morning, like I knew it would, to 160.9. I am not changing my stats because it will be down tomorrow, and besides, I could not hit that low weight if it wasn't true, right? :)

Breakfast is cantaloupe and some oatmeal and decaf coffee. I am getting used to drinking it black again, too.

lunch and dinner are undecided. I have a busy schedule today - letting the son use the car for a couple hours while i am at work. He is almost done repairing his. Becuase of this, I walked to work yesterday again. Much faster this time, and I felt it in my legs just a bit this morning.

Took measurements, and I have lost over 5 inches in my waist and almost 4 around my thighs, about about 5 in my hips since starting this. Sadly, my bust measurement hasn't changed more than 2 inches total, even with the obvious drop in bra size and loss of fat around my rib cage. What's up with that? I would seriously have these things reduced if I wasn't scared of surgery. Ridiculous. 

So I measure 42 - 31.5 - 41. I may topple over if I didn't have such big feet! . :(

Oh well.

Great measurements. I have not done that yet but I can put my pants on without unzipping but the are not falling down yet. lol lol We are also getting rain for xmas but I am not complaining it is better then a big snowstorm when my family has to drive to get to my place. Less worry this way. Yes down to the crunch for sure. Wishing you a great day and keep up the great work.

I am sooo close to my year-end goal!!!!

There was not much I could eat at the party, but I ate a lot of the raw veggies and had a couple of cocktails - it was so much fun to catch up with people I hadn't seen for a year or more. And they have a lot of musicians in the group, so we sang songs and then went carolling around the neighborhood. I haven't done that in years! It was crazy and fun.

So probably not eating much yesterday helped push me to the next level; at any rate, I can probably make my goal even if I bounce back up a bit tomorrow, which typically is how it works for me...hit a low, bounce up for 2-3 days, then drop some more.  So that should put me under 160 by year end. Yaay!

Breakfast: oatmeal, raspberries, decaf coffee 220

lunch: probably no lunch, since I slept in so late and didn't eat breakfast until 11:00

dinner: pizza! I'm making it with a polenta crust. Planned this days ago and it didn't happen,, so even husband is on board with trying it tonight, although his will have pepperoni and cheese in addition to the veggies. 425

snack: apple 120

yum! sounds like a great idea to use a polenta crust! never thought of it...and never really bought polenta in the store because I never really knew what to do with it...except to look at the wrapper and calories and say to myself "not too bad, but I have no idea how to use this!"

oatmeal and raspberries sounds yummy! just bought some blackberries, they were on sale! $5 for 3 containers :)

anyways M, have a great day!!! it's been a sorta relaxed holiday season.

 My year-end goal is within sight!

Yesterday was good but busy. took Violet cat to the vet, and she got meds, but that put dinner behind schedule, so we ended up with leftovers, and then drove around to see the beautiful Christmas lights at night. Also got to see my adorable granddaugther for a couple of minutes. She is getting so big!

Today we are taking Annie to her forever home, and then possibly heading to Canada to buy a bottle of my husband's favorite whiskey - no one imports it into the States, and it is the best. Other than Bourbon, Canadian whiskies are the best, since they are mostly rye, very smooth....I digress, sorry! Anyway, have not been to Canada for years, even though husband travels there for work several times a year.

Breakfast: oatmeal w/flaxseed meal, blackberries, decaf coffee

lunch: ???

dinner: at our friends house for a holiday party , so we will see how that goes.Wish me luck! I may end up with raw veggies and club soda lol!
