(Calorie Counting & Portion Control)
Weight: 162.4

It's been 3 months since my last entry.. I lost more weight than I intended because a series of very hurtful events unfolded in my life & I had difficulty coping.  My appetite disappeared for quite a while. Most days, I only ate once a day (just for nourishment).

But, all in all, I like the way I look and my appetite is (slowly) returning. I have no intention of gaining weight--simply to get up to my initial goal (170 lbs).

My NEW goal is to stay between 160-165 lbs. I think (or at least hope) that I can achieve this!

Some good things have happened, however.  For the first time in my life, I bought dresses & skirts that are above the knee (I've always worn full-length...all the way down to my feet).  And, for the first time in my adult life, I own a pair of shorts (I've always worn clam-diggers).  I was too self-conscious to wear these kinds of garments, before.

I only wear the shorts around my house or while doing yard work.  I am still self-conscious about my thighs.  I lost 178 lbs, years ago (via gastric bypass).  Losing that much weight resulted in extra skin sagging (around my thighs and waist).  I opted not to have skin-removal surgery and am at peace with that decision. But the (above-the-knee) skirts & dresses, I feel completely comfortable wearing in public. I do not feel comfortable wearing the shorts while I am out and about, however (and that is ok)!

I admit, it has been exciting to buy the skirts/dresses, put them on, and like what I see in the mirror; that has NEVER happened. So, I think I want to maintain this weight!

As for the emotional roller coaster I have been riding the past 3 months, things are gradually improving.  I am in counseling.  I intended to go to a psychiatrist and ask for anti-depressants & anxiety meds.  But, I abruptly lost my health insurance--which took this option away from me.

I have a plan for obtaining new  (and affordable) health insurance but, it will take a couple months to get all the necessary components in place.  Until then, I will do the best I can to keep my weight between 160-165 lbs.

It's good to be back on DD...

Take care everyone,

Lisa

Progress as of today: 37.7 lbs lost so far, only -7.6 lbs to go!

Hi lil’ sis!

I am sorry to hear that you were under stress and pressure for awhile. I hope that whatever unfolded has been resolved at least for the most part. I DO know the feeling of losing an appetite and although the ONLY good side effect is weightloss – I also know it’s better to be in a BETTER mental place when the appetite returns !

It’s GREAT to hear that your appetite is returning & that you are feeling better. I once got very sick (exhaustion that lead to a little breakdown where I took off a full month of work), and lost around 10lbs that month…maybe it was only 5. But after I got better, like you, I decided it was worthwhile to keep on with the weightloss . So I did. I never, EVER, regained the weight.

Even after my appetite came back – bc I LOVED how I looked at the lower weight, I made the decision to change my ways (diet) and keep the lower weight. So I can tell you from my own experience that it’s very possible to achieve weight loss even when an appetite comes back. I then went on to continue to lose 10 more pounds when I was fully well.

And I’ve kept the FULL WEIGHT OFF now, been maintaining, for approx. 1.5 years of full maintenance. It feels GREAT to wear the same clothes, size, always know I control my weight and not the other way around. I no longer look for weightloss as I’m very comfortable with where I am at now.

My concentration now is simply on becoming a better runner this summer….life is all about picking and choosing what we want to partake in and what is more important to concentrate on based on current goals and expectations…sorry so much writing on my part over here! Haha….

I’ve had the same experiences in you in regards to dresses. I never liked them before I got into running. Then , I had an injury and never really got to experience the wearing of dresses (like summer ones that people love to wear at work, above the knee) until last summer I started to wear a couple short ones, just two I bought….and this summer, with an increase in cardio and continued strengthening of my legs, I literally bought over 10 dresses. I probably have an assortment of around 15 total dresses in my closet now! And it’s so freeing and feels so good to be able to wear them and feel so free, young and spirited! So I can relate to your new choice to wear some above the knee fashions!

Do you think you will ever have the skin removal surgery? So you can be more comfortable and wear shorts in pubic? BTW, kudos and MAJOR CONGRATS to you on losing weight and making the personal choice of how you would go about to do it. What an inspiration you are to all of us here. Many gain it back even after Gastric Bypass Surgery, so I look at you as a person who is driven and has succeeded in changing your life for the better. changing your habits and choices. And becoming a new person both on the inside & out!

Please remember that you are fully in charge of you – with or without depression/anxiety meds. It is ALWAYS you who has the choices and abilities to do what is best for you. You have 100% of the power to change your thinking and goals in life. And YOU have the power to make your life the best you can within reason of course.

I also had a couple tough periods throughout my life. The worst was when I was emotional / mentally drained in early fall of 2015. I was out of work 1 month. I ended up also going on anti-anxiety meds. They helped me overcome…but it’s important to also note that I MYSELF worked to overcome the obstacles. And I fully did. I have faced other obstacles since that time…learned from them…and never intend to break down so much again…because I now know my limits better as well as know things I can do to prevent exhaustion before it starts.

I am sure you’ve learned a lot from your own life experiences, and usually what you learn can ONLY MAKE YOU STRONGER!

Thanks for your support! I am happy that you've kept the weight off and enjoy wearing shorter dresses, as well. You're right, it is very freeing! I definitely plan to stay at this weight (or slightly below). Nice to hear from you! Miss ya'll

Weight: 185.2

When I purchased my home in 2011, very large shrubs were situated all around the house. I wanted to plant flowers but couldn't because I simply didn't have the space to do so.  Last month BF and I bought a logging chain, hooked it up to his truck, and began removing the shrubs, one by one.  Half of them are gone and we've created flower beds in the areas where those unsightly shrubs previously were.

Yesterday, the weather was nice.  We purchased the flowers we wanted for another flower bed, as well as wooden planters, wind chimes, and hanging baskets for the porch.  We did quite a bit of planting. I'm so excited!  It looks very pretty!

Although we were busy throughout the weekend, we ate well and counted our calories.  I weighed in this morning and am down to 185.2 (lost almost 15 lbs since March 2nd).  I'm pleased with my progress. I'm in no hurry to shed the weight; as long as I am making progress toward my goal, I am satisfied.

Breakfast: Oatmeal & Fiber One bar

Lunch: Turkey sandwich & Chips

Dinner: Salmon, grilled vegetables, potatoes, & a dinner roll.

Snack: Fresh fruit/low-calorie whipped topping

Have a great day!

Really, really proud of you. I ate similar to what you had for dinner for lunch! It was a nice big meal for lunch with my folks. my mom had cooked it up so nicely for us. So a little high calories for me, as I ate all meals quite indulgently yesterday, but, it was all healthy. a good day's splurge to eat healthy i guess?

either way, you sound happy and healthy. I really enjoy hearing how you changed the landscaping around your house.

Your relationship with your bf sounds really, really wonderful.

Good morning Peeps & Happy weekend

I had a good food week, stayed busy, and ate well.  I am so glad the weekend is here!  The weather cooled down here in Ohio.  I was wanting to get outside and plant more flowers but am not sure if that will happen today.

BF and I must go out of town to tend to some business today.  We plan to grill out when we get home (steak, baked sweet potatoes, and grilled vegetable medley).

BF was a size 40 in pants, when he began losing weight.  He bought a pair of 36 jeans that he really liked and yesterday, he was able to fit into them!  He wore them to work!  I was so happy for him!

Progress...a wonderful thing to see!

Have a wonderful weekend!

My boyfriend and I had our first "free night" since we initiated our lifestyle change.

We picked a restaurant, ordered foods we enjoy, ate reasonable amounts, and had the server to remove the rest.  This was the first time we had ever left Olive Garden without to-go bags. We plan on having a free night once every 4 or 5 weeks.

I skipped my weigh in this week.  I will, instead, weigh next week.  If I didn't lose anything or if I gained a couple ounces, I do not want to see those numbers and become discouraged.

In the past, I have lost weight by eliminating all my favorite meals at restaurants.  I always ended up going on food binges and gained everything I had lost, back.  If I allow myself a free night once in a while, I will not feel deprived. It strengthens my chances of NOT going on binges.

Ok, I must go to work.  Have a wonderful day peeps!

Happy Thursday!

Lisa

I like your approach a lot, lil sista!

It's good to give your body what it desires.

It's NOT good to only hold back and deny yourself constantly.

I have learned, and will always learn, the best balance too.

<3 Take care lovely lil sista.

Your time with BF sounds good...and i love how you both are doing it together!

Wishing you an efficient and happy day. Even at work !

(Calorie Control & exercise)
Weight: 187.6

I increased my daily calorie limit to 1800-1900 calories since my last diary entry.  Some days I ate 1700-1800 calories;  other days I consumed 1400-1500 (depending on my level of hunger). Today was weigh in day and the scales showed a 2.2 lb loss.  I am really pleased because I was anxious that increasing my calories might result in no loss or perhaps, a weight gain.  But, it didn't!  Yay!

I have been busy at work this past week so it has been easy to achieve the number of steps taken, goal,  that my Garmin tracker sets for me each day.  On the weekends, I don't walk as much because I am home, relaxing.

The weather has been beautiful, lately.  I have been working in my yard (planting flower beds).  I'm enjoying this 70+ degree weather!

Have an awesome Tuesday folks :)

It's really good to juggle your calories and not have low cal every day. Best way to prevent plateaus.

Horn_of_plenty on 04/11/2017:
You know what!? lately, my calories have been increased for like a couple weeks but my weight is STILL staying down! :-) Maybe sometimes it helps to eat a lil more (i didn't say overeat though lol).

I am happy for you!

Donkey on 04/14/2017:
So glad to hear! Isn't it funny how eating more can actually cause you to lose weight? The irony is maddening, but it's nice to be able to eat a little more and still see favorable results. Keep up the good work!

mylilsista - Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
(Calorie Control & exercise)
Weight: 189.8

I weighed under 190 today (I am 189.8 lbs)!!  Another goal met! I am thrilled about this! Each pound down brings me another step closer to my target weight.

I replaced my (clip-on) Fitbit with a Garmin tracker on Sunday. Garmin trackers are waterproof.  My hands are often submerged in water, while working, so I am very happy with this change.

I am re-evaluating my food plan.  My intake has been between 1200-1400 calories per day (most days, I'm closer to 1200).  However, I find myself hungry, at times, shortly after breakfast or lunch. A small snack doesn't seem to satify my hunger on those days. My meals are well balanced therefore, I believe I am NOT getting enough calories.

My job requires me to do a considerable amount of walking. Therefore, according to my tracker, I burn approximately 1200-1300 calories each day, Monday through Friday.

Do you think I can raise my intake to 1800 or 1900 calories per day and continue to lose weight?

Thoughts?

Progress as of today: 10.3 lbs lost so far, only 19.8 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 04/04/2017:
Congrats!

Yes, if you raise cals you will still lose weight. It will be slightly slower loss. I am able to maintain my weight of 115lbs or so sometimes a hair higher, and i am eating in 1900s.

So for you to lose, I recommend days of 1800's. Add in a few 1500 days for easier loss.

If you want everyday to be same cal, around 1700-1800 is just fine. You'll lose.

At 1900, you will def not gain. It will prob be ok to have a couple 1900 days mixed in - as long as you are good with calorie counting.

1900 is not destructive to weight loss, it's good.

To feel the loss, have a few days low at 1500-1700 cal. ( you do not need to go lower than 1500 - i don't even do 1500 as it's too low for me on a continual basis).

Horn_of_plenty on 04/04/2017:
I agree that the 1200-1300 is too low for generally healthy women. That amount is seriously for weight loss for crazy extreme sedentary people.

Def up your cals a little bit so you feel better.

I would have an EXTREME hard time eating that low. I have tried it, various other points in my life, and it was not easy. Plus, your metabolism will slow a hair getting used to such little food.

But if you eat higher cal, your weightloss will be slower, not always a bad thing. The slower the loss, the more you get used to eating lighter, the easier to maintain a slower loss.

mylilsista on 04/04/2017:
I agree with all your statements. I am eating differently (healthier) and intend to eat that way continuously. I only wanted to lose 1 to 1.5 lbs a week. The low amount of calories I have been consuming, coupled with the calories I'm burning at work during the week, have resulted in my losing 2.5 lbs a week. That, to me, is too fast. No need to rush when my hope was simply to get to my goal weight (170) by August. That is achievable without setting my calorie count so low. Thanks for your input :)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/04/2017:
Also the new waterproof one is awesome because it's going to help you meet your goals and is better for keeping long term health and habits....good idea to buy the waterproof one!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/04/2017:
Glad i could constructively help you :-)

Donkey on 04/05/2017:
Just wanted to agree that you should increase your calorie intake. Try rotating your levels, so that you eventually have 3 high days (1800?), 3 medium days (1500-1600?), and 1 low cal day (1300-1400?). It will keep your metabolism guessing!

mylilsista on 04/07/2017:
Good idea!

It's been a busy week but it's Friday, so life is good. I've stuck to my food plan, again, this week. Taking food to work has been a blessing. No one here brings their food; they order out each day. It hasn't been hard to resist fast food at work. I always have healthy alternatives in my lunch bag. I'm looking forward to relaxing some, this weekend.

Happy Friday, Peeps!!

You are doing great. You are doing exactly what will get you results. Be proud of yourself. This is what i do also. I hardly order food. Once in awhile, yes, as a change of pace - but still I order healthier things.

But usually I bring my food, just like you do. So that i know what i'm eating ahead of time - i know that it's healthy and the calories i need to maintain my weight.

Be proud of yourself. Keep doing the good things for yourself.

It's been a long week here, too, and i'm so happy it's April in a day! Thank gosh Spring is basically here.

(Calorie Control & exercise)
Weight: 192.4

Good morning Peeps!

I had a decent weekend..My BF made some delicious low-calorie ground turkey & brown rice stuffed bell peppers last night. He found a web site called skinnytaste.com that has many delcious (low-cal) recipes. He has been trying some of them out (no complaint from me!!)

I bought  a pair of shoes yesterday and put new soles inside them that are suppose to provide good arch support.  I ordered another pair online from a company that specializes in othopedic footwear.  I hope they will provide relief from pain that developed in my right foot, last week.

We spent Saturday running from store to store, pricing and comparing refrigerators.  The temperature in ours isn't consistent (sometimes freezes our produce).  It is old and too small to meet our needs (not worth repairing).  So, we purchased another one.  It should arrive mid-April.  We can make do until then.

6" subway sandwich, baked chips, & diet soda for lunch yesterday (620 cals)

Stuff peppers & stir-fried green bean medley for dinner (311 cals)

Snacks (179)

Total calories yesterday = 1110

Wasn't trying to eat that few calories yesterday, just worked out that way.

Today:

Breakfast: Sliced strawberries w/sugar-free glaze & tangerine (180 cals)

lunch: leftover stuffed pepper & greenbeans (311 cals)

Dinner: Grilled glazed salmon, sliced/seasoned baked potatoes, stir-fried spinich w/tomatoes, onion, garlic (445)

Snacks: tangerine & protein bar (214 cals)

Total today =1096 calories (leaves room for snacks & smoothie)!

Progress as of today: 7.7 lbs lost so far, only 22.4 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/27/2017:
What's the orthopedic footwear company that you ordered from? I am interested and want to take a look for myself :)

The stuffed peppers sound delicious and healthy. Turkey has very low cal indeed and it's good to mix with some rice to add some bulk for digestion - i do not believe in super low carb diets anymore - i've tried in the past - these type of diets leave me with very low energy.

That meal of the peppers and a stir-fry green bean mix is def sounding super duper - that's my kinda meal - extra veggies = super tasty and filling - good job!.

GREAT cals both days...if you ever have any questions on cals or foods i eat, please feel free to ask! I have YEARS of experience, around 15 years now of personal self-experimentation.
