Spent most of the day watching TV. There was a movie on Netflix that caught my eye. I ended up watching both that and the TV mini-series remake. I definitely like the mini-series more. Around four, I got around to working on some stuff, cleaning, that sort of thing.

Breakfast Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom
instant coffee
Lunch 2 whole eggs with spinach/bacon/corn mix, ketchup
2 bread rolls
cottage cheese
Snack piece of chocolate
bread roll
instant coffee
small ice cream cone
Dinner piece of chocolate
chicken, avocado, mixed lettuce salad with mayo
bread roll

I bought the avocado almost a week ago. I never liked avocadoes as a kid. I might eat some from time to time, but I still don't see the appeal. I very nearly threw it out.

Tonight, going to bed early. I stayed up very late last night. Tomorrow, I will do some yardwork. I hate gardening. I hate weeding. I'm absolute garbage when it comes to plants, but this stuff has to get done. And, unfortunately, I'm the one that has to do it.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 97 lbs to go!

I get stuck doing all of the work around the house too -- unless my kids are around to help, which is becoming less and less frequent and soon will be gone.

pinklatte on 09/01/2018:
(sad emoji) I know that in my case, I was terrible at helping around the house. And now that I have my own place to maintain? Only the threat of visitors keeps this place clean.

BearCountryGG on 09/01/2018:
I hear you...I don't have a green thumb either.

pinklatte on 09/01/2018:
I tried raising a plant this summer. It's mostly due to the stubbornness of live itself that it's still alive.

Some time back, The Martian was on TV. Fine movie, pretty entertaining. I think the TV edit didn't include that one shot of Damon, physically messed up from his time alone, which was, like, a gut-punch when I first saw it.

Last night, my mind wandered not to that, but to the bit where Damon had to cut down his already tiny ration portions. Because I feel like I must start doing the same. I daydreamed of putting pieces of chocolates into individual ziplock baggies, ration out a box over two weeks. I have the small bags. This can be done.

Lunch 2 whole eggs with bell peppers
Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom
cottage cheese
bread roll
sweet tea
Snack bread roll, cottage cheese
instant coffee
Dinner ground beef, pineapples and stuff
mixed lettuce salad
bread roll

I was torn between one egg for breakfast, and another for lunch. I couldn't find it within myself to not use the egg yolk. Heck, I'm half-regretting using two eggs instead of one.

I didn't have work today, which may have been a blessing. Tonight, I will relax. And clean. Hopefully doing something will keep me from stressing too much. :)

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 97 lbs to go!

I got my paystub today, and if I end up losing a lot of weight next month, it's because I could only afford eggs and flour. Ha ha, I had to buy a fridge and couldn't control my spending habits. It'll be a party.

Breakfast 2 egg whites with bell peppers
Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom
cottage cheese
bread roll
flavored coffee
Lunch rice, hamburger steak, miso soup, potatoes
Snacks instant coffee (twice)
cafe latte
piece of chocolate
Dinner ground beef, pineapples, and stuff
mixed salad (bag)
bread roll

I'm still debating on whether or not I should write up what I have for lunch at work. It changes from day to day and I have no choice in what I'm served. I don't even have a say in how much food I'm given. But that's a problem for later; I have to work on the stuff I do have control over first.

Let's call dinner a "deconstructed destroyed pineapple burger". I was too tired and too hungry to make the patty, so I said screw it and threw everything into the frying pan. I wanted a pineapple burger for a couple of days now. I'll try to make a proper one some other time.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 98 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 08/30/2018:
Your fridge broke? that is def an unwelcome expense!

well, at work, you DO have a say in what you do/don't eat!!!! it's up to you whether to eat it all, etc...you can always bring a vegetable to eat with what they are providing, no?! and you have an option to drink water...

lunch looks good, just add a veggie and eat a little less rice/potato and you are good. or, choose 1 - either rice OR potato, but not both!

well, dinner was a cool idea!

pinklatte on 08/30/2018:
The old one died just as the summer started, the jerk.

Oh no! They're feeding children so they work hard to be balanced. Some meals are more veggie-heavy than others, it just so happens that today only had a lot of onion and seaweed in the soup and some string beans and corn with the potatoes.

Not that corn is any better...

And you're right. I can choose to opt out. People do, either because of allergies or dietary reasons. Here's why I haven't: I eat with the children, so I might as well eat the same thing. I'm not allergic to anything (as far as I know) and it's a lot less stressful for me to eat their food, especially because I don't have the time nor the inclination to make my own lunch every day. And they're definitely more varied than my own cooking.

I still have to work up the nerve to reduce some of the food, i.e. put some back into the lunch containers before eating--that's what I'm going to tackle later--because there is pressure to return those containers to the lunch center empty. Waste not, want not is drilled into everyone's heads, and no matter how many times I've done it, the kids still get annoyed with me when I don't drink the milk or eat the bread.

I buckle under social pressures.

Yeah, dinner was alright.

My period started today. You would think that, at this age, I would know what my period does to my body, but I only have guesses.

Today, I was quite hungry. Not just body hungry, but mouth hungry? No, I don't think that's it. My jaw started clenching after eating that sandwich yesterday, and kept clenching on and off today. I guess I wanted to chew on something? Maybe it's stress? Shame that I really don't like chewing gum.

Breakfast 2 egg whites, onions, bell peppers, olives
Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom
instant coffee
lemon soda
sweet tea
Lunch

pork with bell peppers and stuff
three bread rolls, one with butter

Dinner thin wheat noodles (somen) with sauce
pork with bell peppers and stuff, added spinach/bacon/corn mix
box of chocolate/cookie snacks
black coffee, two cups

Tomorrow is a full day and I don't think I have the best plan, but here it is: Breakfast before leaving house at 6:30, coffee at work, lunch, drive straight home for dinner. I will not stop at a convenience store unless I feel drowsy (which I will). I have a habit of stopping for a sandwich right after work, and my stomach knows this. I hope I can, in time, convince it to wait a couple of hours.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 97 lbs to go!

graindart on 08/29/2018:
When I'm in the car for extended periods of time, I'm also tempted to stop for a snack, mostly out of boredom. I've found that flavored sunflower seeds that are still in the shell work pretty good for me. There are many different flavors, it gives me something to do while driving, satisfies my desire to eat, and doesn't end up adding too many calories to my day.

pinklatte on 08/30/2018:
That's a good idea. :)

legcramps on 08/29/2018:
When my aunt has to drive anywhere and thinks she will be hungry, she always packs little baggies of raw veggies to munch on; that way, she isn't tempted to stop somewhere for something that may not be a very healthy choice. Just a suggestion! Have a great day today!

pinklatte on 08/30/2018:
I was thinking the same, but with grapes. :)

Horn_of_plenty on 08/29/2018:
if you are hungry after work, you can always pack a snack for the ride home! you can sip on water and have a fruit while you drive? i used to do this, when i was driving myself to and from work. now, i take public transport and it's not the popular thing to eat on the bus or train....so i read!

pinklatte on 08/30/2018:
I'm definitely going start doing that, because I was so hungry during my drive home.

I don't want to complain about work, but I will. I texted them yesterday morning about a job today. I had an inkling that it was cancelled, but I needed to check. Around 5, I get a response: Yeah, you don't have to do that, which was followed five minutes later with: Wait, no, we do want you to do that... followed by a text around 9 pm: Actually, we need you do to this other job instead. I really hope that my 'okay's and 'thank you's did not come off as frustrated as I felt.

Late last night, I had a mild panic. I'll need to pack a lunch for the other job, and in my flakiness, I didn't go grocery shopping and there's no food in the house. Which meant I would... need to buy food at the convenience store. (face screaming in fear emoji). I need to learn to plan ahead!

This morning, after buying food, getting lost, and reaching the place just in time, I noticed the text from work: Sorry, the job was cancelled by the client at the last minute. In frustration, I ate the baguette sandwich I just bought. It wasn't my best moment.

Breakfast 2 egg whites with onions, bell peppers, olives
cottage cheese
---
Red Bull
ham and camembert baguette sandwich (442 cal)
coffee
Lunch cranberry/cheese danish (230 cal)
Dinner Red Bull
sandwich (370)
bottled coffee
—-
pork cutlet rice ball (260)
bacon/cheese/mushroom bread (235)

I was hoping to start this week by cutting down on sugary drinks, starting with the Red Bulls. Yes, I like/need the caffeine, but RBs aren't worth the calories, especially since they keep me awake only half the time. More than once, I drank one and still ended up falling asleep.

Also, the sandwich was probably a mistake. After eating it, I actually felt hungrier. And I feel so queasy too. Is it the uptick in carbs? The guilt? Honestly, the whole day was a wash.

Tonight, I will buy groceries and then stay up all night working. I must do better tomorrow.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 97 lbs to go!

graindart on 08/27/2018:
The lack of solid communication concerning work sounds soooooo frustrating!

As for the Red bull, have you tried some of the other brands with sugar-free options? There are several sugar-free Monster & Rockstar flavors that I enjoy. I also really like the sugar-free Redbull Lime flavor. If you like regular Red bull, you probably wouldn't enjoy the RB sugar-free since you'd be comparing it to the original.

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:
I just needed to vent. :(

I've tried sugar-free Red Bull, and it is gross. I've never liked sugar-free sodas; artificial sweeteners never taste like the real thing. I'll think about trying a different brand, but I'm pretty okay with drinking a lot of black coffee.

Donkey on 08/28/2018:
Some days are better left behind us. I feel your frustration.

Donkey on 08/28/2018:
You still did well with calories!

pinklatte on 08/28/2018:
... you're right! I didn't eat nearly as much as I feared. A positive point!

horn_of_plenty on 08/28/2018:
COFFEE is also more natural than a red bull...i ALWAYS break out when i start up the energy drinks - because i get tempted but their really sweet taste around my workout time especially if i'm overtired i'll reach for one, but the after effects of breakouts (i do sugar free) are starting to drive me a little bit batty! haha

i also get hungry if i do a lot of carbs...like your sandwich...just gets me wanting more later.

i would also get frustrated because of the work situation. that's not great communication at all!

pinklatte on 08/28/2018:
I'm not sure what makes me break out, mostly because it doesn't happen often. All I know is that drinking one a day might be a bit too much.

It wasn't even later, but immediately after I finished it. Partly because it was a lot of carbs, partly because it really wasn't filling? It messed with my mind.

... Yeah.

BearCountryGG on 08/28/2018:
Boy.....someone isn't doing a very good job of running their business....I feel for you having to deal with that.

I didn't do much today, which means I have a lot to do tonight.

The lunch buffet was at a hotel not far from my home, so I had a minor plan of walking there. The heat, however, discouraged me, and I admire women who can walk in heels for more than 10 minutes, because I can't. The lunch itself went well, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and the food was 80% delicious. I didn't like the vinegared salmon, the ceviche was too sweet, and the potatoes were bleh.

I also didn't stick 100% to my plan. Yes, one large plate of greens and mixed vegetables, no bread at all, and only coffee. I didn't take anything fried, or creamy, like the gratin. But, I also had two small plates of various side dishes. Dessert was a bowl of fruit and yogurt, and a scoop of ice cream. Because I saw ice cream and wanted chocolate. So, I think I did an okay job?

Breakfast 2 egg whites with bell peppers, olives
bread roll
cottage cheese
instant coffee
Lunch

lettuce with italian dresssing, seaweed medley
cold fish and chicken with mixed vegetables
cappellini with cucumber sauce, quiche, pork with sprouts
dim sum dumpling (!!!), sausage and potatoes, ... i don't remember...
yogurt. fruit, granola, ice cream
three cups of coffee (black, mocha, cafe latte)

Dinner pork with bell peppers, garlic, and stuff
cabbage salad
instant coffee

The weather turned cool about an hour ago, so I thought about taking a walk after dinner. Instead, a very strong thunderstorm has rolled in. The electricity went out for a bit while writing this. The lightning isn't as close now, but when it felt right on top of me, I did freak out a bit, yes.

... Nevermind about it calming down. The lightning crashed very close again and the electricity went out a second time.

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:

graindart on 08/27/2018:
Today is supposed to be a cold miserable day here. Was 105 degrees 2 weeks ago, then dropped into the 70's for about a week. Today the high is supposed to be 52 degrees with a low of 39. Crazy how big of a swing we've had the past couple weeks here.

Good job on your self control at the buffet.

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:
This is some ridiculous weather!

I did my best. :)

horn_of_plenty on 08/27/2018:
yes, very healthy lunch choices, way to go...

nice to read your menu full of veggies!

i also do not eat the au gratin...such a waste of cheese and carbs potatoes...just not healthy. i knew a mother who'd cook it for her daughters all the time. she was such an unhealthy cook. she'd buy them mcdonalds all the time after their dance classes, creating such bad habits. one loves fries to this day...and she's very athletic...go her :) it's good when you can actually balance the intake of higher fat foods with exercise...me? not so much! i am not so fit/athletic or majorly active where i can eat whatever i want without a risk of weight gain! for me, i have to balance it all out!

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:
I tried my best. :)

I'm such a sucker for anything cheesy, but I think I would have felt incredibly guilty if I had some. I'm a bit glad it didn't look all that appealing at the time.

BearCountryGG on 08/27/2018:
I like seeing the cottage cheese in there...calcium for bones is a biggie.....that will pay off in later years.

After sleeping most of the morning away, I went to a local department store for their air conditioning. The heat this summer has been no joke, and I was kind of roasting.

Breakfast 2 egg whites with bell peppers, olives
cottage cheese
bread roll
Greek yogurt with fruit in the bottom
Lunch the last of the chicken in tomato sauce
cottage cheese
bread roll
more yogurt
Snacks, drinks flavored water
sweetened tea
box of chocolate/cookie snacks
Red Bull

I haven’t decided on what to have for dinner yet. I’m thinking pork, but that’s as far as I got.

Tomorrow, I’m going to a hotel buffet lunch with some older folks. We usually get together once a month for dinner and conversation, but because it’s summer, they wanted to go to a fancier place than usual. I have no clue what sort of food the buffet will have, and this will be the first time I will attempt to make good food choices while out with others. My current plan: more veg than protein, more protein than bread. One plate’s worth. Tea or coffee.

I can’t exactly tell them I’m on a diet. Rather, I don’t what to tell them. Last time I said this, they responded with, “Just eat and be happy,” which is nice, I guess.

Dinner pork with bell peppers, garlic and stuff
fried dumplings with meat filling
shredded cabbage salad
flavored coffee

I floundered over dinner. I didn't want to make rice, and I'm saving the last roll for breakfast. The dumplings were a thoughtless buy at the grocery store. It came with a little packet of soy sauce/chili sauce mix; I ate the dumplings while cooking the pork and dumped the remaining sauce, barely a teaspoon's worth, in with the pork. I don't know if it added anything, but the pork came out very flavorful.

Tonight, I will clean for a bit and do some yoga before bed.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 98 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 08/26/2018:

jasmine on 08/26/2018:
Looks like you are kind of new here too?

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:
As are you! (This is a restart for me, actually :)

Donkey on 08/26/2018:
Buffets can be tricky... or easy depending in what is offered. It's a convenient way to get a nice variety... avoiding the "all you can eat" mentality.

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:
It's not so much the "all you can eat" part that I have to work against, but the "let's try everything" one. There's 30, 40, 50+ stuff laid out, and I want a bite of everything. Especially from the dessert table.

graindart on 08/26/2018:
The problem with "just eat and be happy" for me is that in the long haul they just don't go together. In the immediate short term, eating whatever I want does make me feel good. But the long term effects just make me feel depressed for larger periods of time. So for me it's a question of whether I'd like to feel good most of the time or just during meals / snacks. Sometimes the pendulum swings toward instant gratification and sometimes the pendulum swings toward the more intelligent long term side.

pinklatte on 08/27/2018:
My problem with it was that, at the time, I didn't think it was very helpful. Like, "eat what you want and don't worry about it," when I was actively worrying about eating too much.

happy-1 on 08/26/2018:

It was much too hot today, I think. I did my best to stay cool, mostly by doing very little.

Breakfast 2 egg whites with bell peppers, olives
cottage cheese
bread roll
Lunch x 2

can of tuna with mayo, olives
cottage cheese (one time)
bread roll

Dinner flavored water
flavored coffee
chicken and stuff in tomato sauce
bread roll

I ended up eating lunch twice because I felt so hungry. It could be because I didn't add the bag of cabbage salad I have in the fridge like I planned, but it could also have been the dehydration. I haven't been drinking as much as I should, especially in this heat. It's probably too late to be drinking a couple quarts' worth of water, but now that I'm thinking about it, I just might do it. (I probably won't.)

Now that it's cooler, I will clean the house some before bed.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 98 lbs to go!

BearCountryGG on 08/25/2018:
I go ahead and drink water in the evening if I think I didn't drink enough during the day...for me getting dehydrated leads to water retention....

pinklatte on 08/26/2018:
That’s probably the best plan. :)

Donkey on 08/25/2018:
In the summer, I drink water all day long. I usually end my night with water... which so far hasn't resulted in any lost sleep overnight having to go to the bathroom, LOL. I do wake up having to go -- which I think is a bonus because it gets me out of bed.

pinklatte on 08/26/2018:
I usually do, but I felt so lethargic yesterday. I made up for it in the evening, in the end, but I don’t like having to wait up in the middle of the night because I drank too much too late. :P

Horn_of_plenty on 08/25/2018:
hey, even if you don't drink 2 whole quarts, you can drink some! probably leave you feeling better tomorrow!

pinklatte on 08/26/2018:
Don’t worry, I drank some before bed. I mentioned that amount because I have a two-liter bottle of water in the fridge, all cool and waiting to be drank. I had a couple of glasses’ worth instead.

jasmine on 08/25/2018:
Good proteins!

pinklatte on 08/26/2018:
Cheers!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/25/2018:
yes, your menu today has a lot better protein to fill you up than the other day, way to go! and Tuna is very healthy...even the one made with oil is good for you. I tend to not add any mayo to my tuna, i like it as is. I like to sometimes add veggies to it for more flavor.

pinklatte on 08/26/2018:
It wasn’t exactly planned out. The water-packed tuna was the only food in the house, apart from eggs and chicken. I haven’t developed the habit of adding veggies to everything I eat yet, but I’m working on that.

After a minor early-morning mishap (I drove for an hour before being told I didn't have to), I spend much of the morning asleep. I personally think that I sleep too much during my days off, but my fitness tracker says I don't sleep nearly enough.

In spite of myself, I got something done today. I bought some fabric, got groceries and made dinner. That includes baking bread.

I've finally settled on what I want to focus on for now, and that is making my own meals. For years, I would survive on convenience store sandwiches and would very rarely cook my own meals. I've managed to mostly eat my own food so far, but it's only been three days. The real test will come in September, when I start working full-time.

Breakfast

1 egg white with bell peppers
cottage cheese
Greek yogurt with fruit on the bottom
bread roll
Red Bull

Lunch fried chicken with mayo
olives
bread roll
more yogurt
Snacks cake
flavored coffee
chocolate almonds
Dinner chicken and stuff in tomato sauce
bread roll

I'm not the most creative cook, so I basically made the same thing I made Tuesday night. I think I just wanted more tomato. I don't even like tomato. And I made more bread because I don't want to give up carbs yet. Also, I still had some leftover flour.

Progress as of today: 1 lbs lost so far, only 99 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/24/2018:
I applaud your efforts to make more of your own meals. There's fighting cathartic about cooking and baking.

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
I'm trying to see it that way. I think cooking everyday takes too long and is too complicated and no fun. I'm trying not to think of it that way anymore.

graindart on 08/24/2018:
I do much better at controlling my food intake when I make things at home. When I go out to eat I tend to fall back into bad eating habits. The one exception is when we occasionally go to Applebee's. I've got 2 different options that fit easily into my daily plan and I like both of them. Since we only go out to eat about once per week now, it's much easier to control (used to go out to eat once or twice daily).

Good job so far and keep up the forward progress. I fell off the wagon over the summer, but am back on track now on day 4 in a row. The first week or two is always the most difficult for me. I have often derailed my eating plans in the first week. After a couple weeks it gets easier and starts becoming the new normal.

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
Thank you, and congrats on getting back on track. :)

I don't know how to make good choices at the convenience store, not yet at least, so until I figure that out, I think it's best to stay away as much as possible. I always end up buying more food than I need.

BearCountryGG on 08/24/2018:
You bought fabric? What will you make with that?

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
I'm hoping to make a satin pillowcase or bonnet or something for my hair. I started going natural a couple weeks ago and I keep reading that sleeping on satin is better for naturally curly hair.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/24/2018:
sometimes we personally know what we need more than the fitness tracker does :) if you like to sleep on your days off, enjoy it!

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
:( ... I don't really enjoy it. It always just ends up happening.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/24/2018:

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
I should have added an 'again'. I work as an assistant language teacher, so I've been on summer break the last couple of months.

Yesterday was easier. I ate better because I was expected to bring something delicious and balanced and home-cooked for lunch. Today, there’s no such expectation, so I had to made a good lunch choice. I don’t think my final choice was the best, but it could have been worse.

Last night’s dinner

chicken, zucchini, and stuff in tomato sauce
white rice

Breakfast

2 egg whites with leftover chicken, zucchini and stuff
cottage cheese
bread roll
cup of coffee
sugarfree Red Bull (that was too disgusting to finish)
flavored water

Lunch (at a Japanese
fast food restaurant)

beef bowl with kimchi
miso soup
salad with sesame dressing

Drinks, Dinner sweet tea
cup of espresso coffee
last of the chicken/zucchini as a sort of soup
2 bread rolls

I want to believe that going to the beef bowl place was a better decision than going to McDonald’s, because while I think the calories the same, soup and salad isn’t the same as nuggets and a soft drink.

I didn't buy groceries tonight, which means tomorrow's dinner will be a bit harder to put together.

I still haven't added exercise. Because I haven't felt like it, mostly. I did a bit of walking at lunch, but I didn't get 10k steps. I will follow along with a 20-minute yoga video before bed. My poor, too-stiff body needs it, and I'm very close to going with one labeled 'yoga for seniors'. ... I'm not even 40 yet...

Progress as of today: 1 lbs lost so far, only 99 lbs to go!

Last year I lost just over 100 lbs (75 off as of right now due to gaining some back). I did it with just regulating my food intake. I didn't add exercise in until I had lost most of that. For me, whenever I try to change everything at once (food, exercise, etc), I just get overwhelmed and usually give up within the first week or two. Everyone's different, so maybe you're the type that can do it all at once. If not, maybe just change one thing each month. Concentrate on food for 30 days. Then add in some very minimal exercise to the next 30 days. Then add in some other change for the subsequent 30 days.

Just a suggestion. Do whatever seems to work best for you and keeps you on the path towards accomplishing whatever goals you desire.

Thank you for the advice. I know that, among my many flaws, I am often impatient. I'm also nervous about admitting I haven't done exercising yet, because that's always touted as important.

I will focus on my food and not worry about everything else for now. :)

i tend to 100% agree with Gains, who commented above :))

Horn_of_plenty on 08/23/2018:
that's cool you have a yoga for seniors class by you! is it held in a public center like the Y or even the library? by me, the libraries actually hold fitness classes!

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
Oh no, I was talking about youtube! :) But that's a good idea. I know the local municipal centers hold all sorts of classes and they're usually very cheap. I should take a look into that.

Life in Japan must be very interesting....are you there for long...? Are you from the states originally?

pinklatte on 08/24/2018:
I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New Jersey. I've lived in Japan for 15 years. (It's really not that interesting :)
