Good morning!

Hubby told me in the morning that he didn't want to go out for b-day dinner, so I ordered out foods that he likes: a mixture of japanese (sushi,) and lebanese foods  (kibe, sambousek, falafel.)  I bought a huge happy birthday baloon in the shape of a cupcake, flowers, a chocolate cake and assorted cookies from wholefoods. I put everything on nice plates and platers from my china cabinet and made it look like it was all home made, haha.  The table looked very nice when he came home from work.  He didn't tell anyone at work that it was his birthday (his 60th nonetheless,) so I guess he appreciated that we (daughter and I) remembered :)  The chocolate cake from wholefoods is amazingly wonderful, so rich, so you should eat it in very small portions.    It's so wonderful it melts in one's mouth (think high end chocolates from a box.)  I'm having a small piece for breakfast ;) Enough said, this is a weight watching diary, for goodness' sake ;)

I did go to the gym for 1 hr and did the eliptical (30 min) and sit-ups and weight training.

Of course, I ate light all day and splurged with the chocolate cake after dinner.  That's ok - it was a special day! Cals were around 1900.

Exercise: 30 min eliptical, 15 min bike, 40 min weights, pushups etc yay!

I'm sure hubby appreciated your birthday spread - the cake sounds delicious and so do the foods! We don't have Lebanese (I don't think there's a single restaurant in my state) but there is an Afghan Kebob place I've been wanting to try. Have a good one!

Whole Foods does have very nice bakery items. Glad you enjoyed them and enjoyed hubby's birthday.

lol, I've done the whole "homemade" thing too. If you find freshly made high quality food, get rid of the evidence, and put it on nice serveware noone will ever know! ;)

Anyway, Im sure he enjoyed being spoiled like a king. What an awesome feast!

Happy birthday to my hubby who turns 60 years old, today!  He is a sweetheart and I'm so glad to be with him and for having known him for the past 26 years.  Must buy a cake today to celebrate!  

I'm up early today, which is very unusual.  The cats woke me up as they walked all over me this morning. Just sent daughter to school, I'm glad that we are getting early sunlight-I don't need to get dressed and walk with her all the way to the bus stop, I just watch her walking to the bus stop from my driveway, in my jammies. Cats are doing well, they are back to roughhousing which is nice because the house was so quiet when one of the cats was injured and wearing a protective cone around her neck.  Although the roughhousing can get a bit too much, it's better than the alternative. Painting class was great, yesterday!

Eating, yesterday, went very well.  Will try the same recipe today...

Today's plan:  Gym for 1 and 1/2 hr.

Foods so far: banana, crepe with jam, coffee, english muffin with jam, mix veggies (carrots, green beans, peeas, corn)with pork, baked beans, blueberries.  

Progress as of today: 3.1 lbs lost so far, only 43.9 lbs to go!

To your comment: Other than you and me (remind me if I've missed someone) there appears to be no one else around here suffering from menopause. GAnnie's been through it already and WII was forced into it prematurely after hysterectomy ovary removal. Currently I can't think of anyone else discussing it at least as it affects them negatively.

I've mentioned it in my diary because I simply never had any health issues EVER until peri- and now full menopause, and I don't think these things happened just randomly. Some things seem to have died down but my body fat is crazy high. I know things could be worse for me. I have trouble staying with any eating plan, though I'm going to give it the old college try yet again.

DDs and continuing to push myself (even if I fall short or even flat on my face) are the reasons I'm pretty sure I haven't gone back to the 180s. I'm not completely miserable, but I've got to get on track and in some groove with the weight.

We'll get through this--keep on keepin' on!

Hello all! I had a pretty busy day today and did not have computer access all day.  First day of winter oil painting classes.  Had a great time.


I even had some energy left in the evening and went to the gym for 1 hr: 15 min bike, 20 min eliptical, 25 min sit ups, weights, etc 


Today's food: english muffin with jam, coffee, english muffin and turkey sandwich, banana, blueberries,  veggies(carrots, peas, porb cooked in oyster sauce,) grilled pork (small amount), tilapia fish steamed (1/2 fish,)hot chocolate milk

Progress as of today: 3.1 lbs lost so far, only 43.9 lbs to go!

Hello all!

I hope you had a great, healthy weekend!  My weekend was full of activities, I had the whole family in the house but I worked in my studio, mostly.  On Sunday my daughter and I went to an art show opening where I was showing one of my paintings (my first oil painting that I ever exhibited in a show!)  I'm expanding, haha!  At the party, I had a glass of red wine and skipped all the savories and sweets.  My daughter enjoyed the yummy things, though.  Eating in general over the weekend, went reasonably well:  I did not write down my foods, but I think it was all around maintenance level, calories-wise. I'm still stuck at my weight, ugh.... 

I was thinking about the time I lost nearly 30 lbs here on DD several years ago, I remember that I walked and jogged every day for 1 and 1/2 hr.  I did no weight training, just power walking and some running.  Although  I don't have the beautiful country roads in Switzerland to walk on, any longer, I do have a very nice gym to work-out at.... Why can't I shed the pounds like I did before, I wonder... maybe because I was not menopausal, then?  Maybe, I was more strict about food intake...  Anyway, I'm still looking for the groove to return.  I'll keep searching...

Exercise over the weekend: Saturday -none.  Sunday: 1 and 1/2 hr at the gym.

Tomorrow, my winter session on oil painting will resume.  I'll spend the whole afternoon at school, so I probably will be too tired to go to the gym.  I therefore, must go to the gym tonigh....

Foods so far, today:  coffee, salmon grilled, paneer curry, seaweed/seafood clear soup (aka, leftovers in my fridge.)1 1/2 english muffin180 with grape jelly60, seaweed soup for dinner. Yum

I felt hungry at night in bed...

Congrats on your painting being on display :) You are so talented!! So to answer your question, although my workouts gives me loads of energy all day I get in 6-7 hours per night with the occasional power nap(especially on Sundays) Hope you had a good day :)

Wow, I must have slept about 15 hours in the last 24 hrs!  I feel the energy coming back, slowly but surely...  ok, plans for today are finishing up everything that I couldn't yesterday because of the extreme fatigue.  

I did manage to make a nice soup and grilled salmon for dinner last night, which my family loved to eat.  Eating was moderate and healthy, for me,  yesterday.  No exercise. Today is another day, I'll make myself some coffee to see if I perk up a bit more.  Have a good day, ladies!

today's food so far: 2 cups of coffee, 2 tuna fish sandwiches (canned tuna, pickles, mayo on whole wheat bread) 600chicken breast baked300, salmon grilled200, 2 slices  bread200, 2 chocolate chip cookies150, total: 1450 enough!

Thanks for the info on the vet! I hope Selina is continuing to improve.

BTW, none of my business, but you mentioned the new info on statins a couple days ago. If you or someone you know is on them, and if you haven't tried this, you might try supplementing with CoQ10 or Ubiquinone/Ubiquinol. The statins deplete the body of this faster as does aging apparently.

I did go to the gym last night: 50 min bike, 10 min eliptical, 30 min circuit training, 60 situps.  My frozen shoulder feels better but I still feel it.  I don't know if I overdid last night, but today I was so beat that had to go back to bed mid-morning for a 2 hr nap.  I feel so low in energy, it's ridiculous.  I want to paint but feel so tired that I don't get the inspiration....  I'll be doing some deep cleaning today, since artistic inspiration is absent.  Later...


foods today: hot chocolate150, mortadela sandwich (2 pieces of whole grain bread, three slices of mortadela)400,grilled salmon, vegie soup, apple, pineapple.

My mother had frozen shoulder for years. It seemed so painful. She said it was really common for people with diabetes. She tried the shots and went to a chiropractor for over year before finally going to see a massage therapist. And it went away in a couple of months! Hope yours goes way soon!

I have felt so tired lately, too. Don't feel like doing anything much at all. Frozen shoulder - Have your tried massagea or physical therapy? Could help? I had a bad problem with mine 2-3 years ago - no range of motion at all. Went to chiropractor and got a few massages and it got much better. I have 95% range of motion now. I just have to be careful walking my big dog as he pulls too hard sometimes and I can't raise my one arm over my head with weights - must do two handed lifts and not too many reps as that seems to aggrevate it again. Hope that helps you know what to do with yours???

Hello all!

My trip to the gym yesterday was really good, 50 min bike and 40 min circuit training plus 80 sit ups.  It was good going back after skipping the gym 2 days.   Although,  I did do yoga at home while watching the academy awards (yay Meryl) on Sunday evening.

I took Selina the cat to the vet yesterday as scheduled, but she needed extra care and further treatment, oh well.  Whatever.  At least, she is on the mend.

I'm counting calories, again, today.

Last night I heard that statins agravate diabetes and affects the brain by making people more forgetful.  Where did I hear that?  I forgot.

re:Ben ~ No, he isn't changing schools...Neither of the kids are... Hubby is taking them to school & I taking mom for a daily drive to get them.. It is a 68 mile total round trip each day, but worth it! Ben works for the school district & involved in activities & has a buddy who lives right by the school where he can go when/if need be... Meg doesn't mind transfering, just not til next fall.... Ben is working on getting his driver's license for after winter breaks & us in search of a reasonably priced reliable vehicle for him. Then maybe he can do the driving back/forth, as hubby came home to tell us last night that his working 6 days a week is here, as well as the super early a.m. and way late p.m. schedule.... Shall see how this all plays out.... :o)

Good morning!  Eating was ok, yesterday.  Today, I'm going to resume writing down everything that I eat, it's more controlable that way.  I've been in real pain in my shoulder and neck(they are both related to the frozen shouder syndrome) and I'm going to make an appointment with doctor to have another steroid shot to see if it helps.   Streches at the gym do no seem to be working as well, anylonger.  I noticed that I have been sleeping a lot more than I used to.  Things that menopause does to one's body...

Selina the cat is doing well, thank you - I'll take her back to the vet today, she'll either remove or change her bandages.  Can't wait since she is in so much discomfort due to itchiness!  She'll have to wear her lamp shade around the neck for at least another week, so she won't mess up with the healing wound.  She is known to obsess over things like that. 

Today's food: rice pudin, coffee, eggplant and chicken indian curry, water, eggplant/chicken curry with rice, 2 eggs, apple

Exercise: 50 min bike, 40 min weights

Are you still in Washington State? I had a steroid shot "ONCE" in the elbow..Now I am caring for mom moreso in lifing, hand-holding, leading, it sure is flaring up... I've began wearing an elbow and forearm brace to see if it helps and it does to a point... Hope you can get some relief!

Good morning!  

I had a very relaxed weekend concerning food intake, I was craving craving carbs and ate lots of it; must get back on track. The sooner, the better.  

Selina, the cat, is on the mend.  I wish I knew the owner of the neighborhood cat that harmed her right outside of our door, inside our fenced-in backyard, so I can send him/her the medical bills for the emergency room visit over the weekend... the grey cat ran away as soon as I opened the door, but if I see him again I'd recognize him.

I'm watching the news on the high school shooting in Ohio.  The lack of gun control in this country is just ridiculous, it makes me mad.

Saturday was an interesting day: 1/2 hr weights at the gym in the morning, hiking in the afternoon with daughter and emergency room for Selina the cat in the evening.  We decided to take her to the emergency room because her paw was getting so swollen , she was not putting any weight on it and looked miserable.  The doctor took care of the problem (I hope) and now I have to give her antibiotics for 5 days, pain killer until she needs it as she has her paw bandaged and wears a lamp shade about her neck.  Poor thing.  

Today I woke up with a stiff neck.  I wonder why....

I cooked indian food yesterday, ha!  First time ever!  I saw a store in town called indian spice market and I stopped by to see what it was like.  I chose to make a chicken curry dish and a paneer curry dish (indian cheese)  I bought all the ingredients and cooked following the directions on the packages.   Everything turned out GREAT, delicious and the whole house had the aroma of a fancy indian restaurant, haha!    Can't wait to invite friends over for an Indian dinner, now that I can make a couple of indian dishes....
