Hello all!
It's so nice to be able to sleep in on weekends - I hope you are all enjoying it! Yesterday was a fairly good day food-wise: choices of food were good, but portion sizes were not quite so good. I ate way too many blueberries and bananas. And I had too many samples of food when I went to the market with daughter. That's something I have to work on, today. One day at a time. Exercise was good: 1 and 1/2 hr at the gym.
Today's plan: work on some damage control on food and get my 1/2 hour at the gym in the morning. Later I'll do my n-track bike at home.
My frozen shoulder is getting so much better with my quasi-daily show at the gym and doing the stretches that the therapist recommended. Ho-ray for that!
Today's food so far: coffee (black), egg, split pea soup with ham, romaine salad, asian pear, blueberries, ramen noodles with shrimp dumplings, romaine salad, banana
I think I did well, except for the ramen noodles for dinner
Drama today at the gym parking lot when a woman stole my parking spot.
Progress as of today - 6 lbs lost so far, only 41 lbs to go!

Hello all!
I took a break from exercising, yesterday, because I needed it. Food consumption went well except for an extra banana or two -they were (are) ripening on the counter in front of my eyes. It could have been worse, so all is well!
I'm planning to go to the gym today - this is a big step for me, because I usually don't go to the gym when daughter does not have dance. This is going to be on MY time. I donated big to planned parenthood, yesterday. Hubby did, on my request. SOOOO excited to see hubby walking ALMOST normally again - just a hint of a limp. If you had seen him before the surgery, you wouldn't believe it, either!
Today's food: coffee (black), egg boiled80, v-8 juice,romaine salad100, seaweed soup 100 grilled pork120, banana100, peanuts150, blueberries, mochi, korean crackers, pumpkin, yogurt
Stay well everyone!

Enjoy your ME time at the gym!!
These are my Suisse farm cats. They are sisters, although the one in the left (selina) is 4 months older than the one on the right (Inky)

Hello all!
What a difference one day makes - today I feel very well rested at 7 am and ready to start the day!
Yesterday went well with eating consciously and moderately and gym work for 1 and 3/4 hour. All is good and I feel confident I can make it this time. It helps a lot to be home on my own most of the day and having time to do my own thing. Husband is back at work and doing well. I didn't quite realize how stressed out I was before, during and after husband's surgery. Now that it's all finished, I feel so relieved that all is well, again. He seems more relaxed, too!
Today's food: coffee(black), egg (no yolk), canadian bacon,v-8 juice, romaine salad, 1/2 grilled chicken breast, stewed veggie roots, banana, squirrel food, apple, porc grilled, steamed veggies, yogurt (activia)
Progress as of today - 6 lbs lost so far, only 41 lbs to go!
Yay for hubby going back to work. Im sure that must feel like a huge relief to you! :)
Been planning to go to a retreat at TNH's community, Plum Village in France, but have yet to book one.
Glad your husband's all mended and you get the place all to yourself again! For me I don't realize how stressed out I was until the source goes away or I shift things in my head to deal with it better.
Good job on all the gymwork! Have a great day!

Hello all!
I feel so tired this morning and I have a reason: yada yada yada ... I had to get up at 6am to take daughter to the bus stop, went back to bed at 7am because I was still sleepy. Couldn't go back to sleep because of noises and shouder pains, but when I finally fell asleep, had to get up again to drive husband to the subway station - it's a 5 minute drive, but still... I still feel tired but don't want to go back to bed because it's almost 9am. Whatever.
By the way, it seems like first day of husband back at the office was good. He looks good and seems to be in a good mood, too. High spirits! I feel so happy that he is recovering so well!
Food and exercise went very well, yesterday. Calories were kept under 1400 at the end of the day and I worked for 1 and 1/2 hr at gym.
Today's plan: doctor's visit, painting, laundry, 2 hour gym at night.
Today's foods so far: coffee, banana, banana, salad(romaine, spring mix), 1/4 chicken breast, steamed veggies, water
Stay well everyone!

Good morning!
Yesterday was all good, food was healthy and moderate and exercise was cardio for 1/2 hour and 45 minutes of weights and stretching. I was a bit grumpy for being so tired, but I took care of that with an afternoon nap. My cat Selina slept with me - heaven on earth!
I went to the store and bought a large bag of unsalted unshelled roasted peanuts for my own consumption (snacks). The lady at the check-out counter asked me if I was feeding the squirrels, haha. I told her that she had given me a great idea because the squirrels in the backyard looked so hungry and didn't like the oatmeal I gave them. So now, I'll be sharing my own snacks with the squirrels, if there is any left, of course, because I found out hubby and daughter also like squirrel food. ;)
Plans for today are: art class for 2 hours early afternoon and gym in the evening for 1 + 1/2 hours, light house cleaning and watercolor painting.
Foods today: coffee; one spoonful of tuna fish sandwich spread; romaine salad with raw carrots; seafood and tofu soup; lemon chicken; stir fried veggies; apple
PS. Husband went back to work today after 2 months, I just can't believe it!
Progress as of today - 3 lbs lost so far, only 44 lbs to go!

Caffeine for me isn't evil, but I'd just like to be able to be a "casual" consumer. Kind of how I am with chocolate. Old habits really seem to die hard--having coffee first thing in the morning.
ps I've always loved that w. allen quotation. I heard part of an interview with him on Terry Gross/FreshAir and have been meaning to listen to the rest of it. The bit I heard was all the different jobs his father had and, if you've seen it, was reminiscent of his movie "Radio Days." I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
Happy Monday to all!
I bought a lot of great foods over the weekend and plan to stay on track with my low carb, south beachy style diet that I like to plunge into when I feel ou-of-control. It helps to have company of my husband and daughter when eating healthily. Husband is going back to work soon and wants to lose some weight that he gained in the past months while recovering from surgey. Daughter says she wants to lose a few pounds, too. At 15 years old and always on the go, I don't like the idea of her "going on a diet". "Eating healthily" is a better term to describe it. She is skiing all day, today. I'll be painting all day today, but will take a brake for physiotheraphy - stretches and weight training.
Today's food: poached eggs on canadian bacon, v8 juice and coffee, green salad, grilled salmon, peanuts, banana, seaweed miso soup, veggies and pork stir-fried
Exercise: 1.5 hour at the gym - 1/2 hour bike, the rest was weight training and streches
My goal: lose 30 pounds in the next 6 months before I move this summer.
Progress as of today - 3 lbs lost so far, only 44 lbs to go!
Enjoy your day of painting, stretching, and weight training!
A day of painting sounds lovely. Have a good one.
Hello all!
Saturday went very fast with a trip to the gym (for only 1/2 hour, that's how long daughter's tap dancing lesson lasts) where I warmed up 5 min on the stationary bke to top off with weight training. Went to costco after lunch where I spent almost $400 for basic stuff like shampoo, laundry soap, healthy foods, meats, fish, etc, etc. I never understood how basic necessities can add up that high but they'll last me a loooooong time - it is just tremendous, those packages! I spent the rest of the day putting things away. Watched Billy Elliot, the movie, after dinner. Cool.
Foods yesterday: oatmeal, coffee, leftover soup, grilled salmon, sashimi, salad, scalloped potatoes, yogurt.
Have a great day!
I had the courage to step on the scale this morning: 180 lbs. I'm not happy to say the least- the good thing is that I'm back to healthy eating and exercise. Today's food so far: poached egg, coffee, scalloped potatoes (small portion), 4 olives, v-8 juice, apples, almond joy (small), stir-fry veggies and pork
exercise: 50 minutes on n-track bike - worked up a sweat while reading, hiking for 15 minutes along the c&o canal and Roosevelt island, scouting for painting locations.
Progress as of today - 2 lbs lost so far, only 45 lbs to go!
Good morning!
I was invited to go to a party at my daughter's school and ended up sampling many cakes and sweets that several moms and volunteers had concocted for the international day celebration. They were all delicious and I did not feel too bad eating them because they were really small portions of everything and I had been good all day. Also, at home, I've been eating out of very small bowls and small plates in order to control portions.
Yesterday's food: coffee with milk, oatmeal with raisins, 1/2 tuna fish sandwich, raw carrots, almonds, minestrone soup with added spinach, samplings of cakes, gacamole, tortilla chips, etc
No exercise yesterday, I needed a brake. Today, I'll go the gym during daughter's dance.
I hope everyone is having a great day! Happy weekend!

Good morning!
I just came back from delivering daughter to the bus stop and am so surprised at the odd high temperatures outdoors: 63 degrees at 6.30 am in January. I wore my usual heavy coat over my pajamas and started getting sweaty...Crazy weather!
I made chili with ground turkey, yesterday, but just could not eat it. I'll try it again today. Husband loved it, though. I ended up eating chicken noodle soup with added veggies (okra) which reminded me of childhood :) I found okra at the store and thought that it would taste good, and I was right. I think I like bland foods now, which is odd because I'd always liked spicy and hot before.
Exercise went well with one hour of nordic track bike at home (worked up a sweat,) while reading a book on Andrew Wyeth. Fascinating artist.
Overall, the day went very well with exercising and eating moderately.
Cheers to all!
Food yesterday: oatmeal with raisins, 2 coffees, 1/2 tuna fish sandwich, apple, almonds, chicken noodle soup with veggies. lots of water

Enjoy your weekend!
Good morning!
The oatmeal that I cooked yesterday turned out pretty good, although I changed the recipe a bit due to lack of cherries - I used raisins, instead. Also, I did not use the sweetener - I thought that the sweetness of the raisins was just enough for my palate. I'm glad I tried the steel cut oatmeal - I like the taste and the crunchy texture when compared with the flattened oatmeal.
For dinner, I cooked pork (pan fried with a few drops of olive oil, garlic), steamed green beans, cucumber salad and baked yams. The yams tasted divine, even without the added butter, and reminded me of my mother-in-law who baked yams for us around Christmas time when we came to visit... great memories! By the way, if you want to save energy when baking yams, microwave them until almost done (about 10 minutes for big yams) before putting them in the oven for 10 more minutes. It takes over one hour to cook if you don't microwave them first.
I cleaned the house, yesterday. Not fun, but it's nice to have the house nice and clean even though we are not expecting guests....
At the gym, I found the stretcher equipment (I saw someone using it and had an aha moment) and I find it really nice! I shall use it again next time after I'm finished with the weights and exercise. If I use it right, it's perfect for my frozen shoulder issues. I worked so hard, yesterday that I need to take aleve today.
So, yesterday was a very good day eating moderately and exercising - I feel I'm slowly coming back to life.
Thank you all for your support!

Hope your shoulder gets better soon! Yes, one day a time! Good job on workouts.
RYC thanks. I don't mind when muscles are sore, it usually means they are in the process of getting built up. :-) I do have to be more careful than when I was younger as I find it easier to hurt my knees, back or rotator cuff area.
