It  turns out that I didn't catch a cold: I was just tired and having allergies, so I took a zirtec and went down for a nap.  I was alright after that.  In the evening, I felt energized and went to the gym for 1 and 1/2 hr.  I also went to wholefoods because I was low on veggies, and I got a lot of good organic produce: blueberries, parsley,suiss chard, collard greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, large box of spring greens salad, lemons, apples, milk and sea salt.  I love it when I have lots of greens in the fridge...

Foods so far: 2 eggs, 1 banana, water, green salad, minestroni soup, chicken breast in lemon/garlic marinate, redbeans/turkey chili, celery/onion/tomato salad, pineapple, cheese, strawberry jam

I exercise at least 2 hours a day.. Since my goal is to teach classes, this is just a prep for me because i am sure eventually I plan to do this on a full time basis :)

I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day!  I sure did, although I could have done it better without the chocolate (from hubby) and the lips and heart shaped cookies that daughter and I bought (for hubby ) at wholefoods on the way back from gym (1 and 1/2 hr) and dance.  He seemed happy that we remembered him :) and ate his heart shaped cookie heartily.  They were delicious!

Daughter has been sick lately - coughing - and I probably am catching the bug from her.  I feel tired and sore.  Who knows  I might be feeling this way because of the strenuous workouts I had two days in a row. We'll see.

Happy Valentine's Day!  Happy 24th Wedding Anniversary for me and Hubby!

It was a good day, yesterday: I ate a variety of healthy foods and drank lots of water.  I did even go to the gym for 30min cardio and 40 min weight training machines.  I didn't even feel bad about eating a few lady fingers for dessert (I was planning to make tiramisu for company, but forgot all about it, never used the ingredient.) But I did feel a little dumb eating a reeses peanut butter cup - daughter was getting out candy out of the freezer to give her friends for v-day.  Leftovers from halloween, haha.  They've been in the freezer all this time, since halloween, so they're fresh.  

I'm expecting to have a good day today, as well.  I hope you have a good one, too!

Today's foods so far: coffee, poached egg80, canadian bacon handful blueberries, banana80, peanuts150, tabouleh salad250, grilled fish150, low fat cheese stick60, blueberries, yams baked, pork grilled on stove top, green salad steamed brocoli, one lips shaped cookie, one heart shaped cookie, one chocolate candy

Hubby just came back from morning physiotheraphy with flowers (tulips, my favorite!), baloon and chocolates .  Seems like he paid a visit to the flower shop :)

Congratualations on your Anniversary:) I am just noticing that in your Food's for Today, the lady fingers and the reese's peanut butter cup are not listed. It might help if you list everything you put into your mouth and their calories. It's those little things that might make a difference as to wether you maintain or lose. Hello all!  I hope you had a wonderfully healthy weekend and are ready to tackle the week with a positive attitude.  I sure feel I must try my best to keep up with my healthy eating and exercise routine if I want to see results.   The weekend came and went and I did not find my way to the gym and for that I'm a little disappointed.

Yesterday, Hubby, daughter and I went to look at some real estate  late morning, went shopping for stuff at michaels to help daughter with her photography project, helped her with the project,  and then went to dinner at friends' house.  Since my friend had a stroke several years ago she can't do much to help out around the house (she reminds me a lot of former congresswoman from arizona, gabriele giffords after she had her head injury,) so I was her husband's sous chef in the kitchen.  It was seafood dinner, fresh from the chesapeake bay.  We shucked oysters and had them on the half-shell, smoked salmon, thinly sliced shallot and capers on pumpernickel bread, shrimp with horseradish and seafood sauce, steamed oysters, grilled cod,  salad (romaine, spring greens, avocado, tomatoes, nuts, shallots,) two glasses of bordeau and finally boston cream pie and dark chocolate truffle for dessert.  I actually did not overeat - there was a lot of food, but everything was healthy, we streched out the food and wine for about five hours  and we mostly had a great time.  

Today, I'm going to drink lots of water because i want to detox myself from the wine which I had not had for about a month and the cake which I had not had in a looooong while.   Stay well everyone!

Foods so far: coffee black, turkey slices with mustard, tabouleh salad, steamed flounder, seaweed salad, peanuts , pineapple, mackerel(steamed) with salsa, lady fingers 100, peanutbutter cup.

Hello all!  It was so cold and windy yesterday, I just could not believe it - I guess it makes sense, it's February, after all!  It's again a very cold day today and, yes, we have a little dry snow on the ground, being blown around in the cold wind.    Good thing I have a nice and warm home!

I did not go to the gym, yesterday, but did many push ups and sit ups on the rec room floor while watching tv.  I had a pretty busy day with housework and cooking, no time to go to the gym.  Foods were good and portions were small - it was a fairly good day.

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

yesterday's food: lots of water, coffee black, egg80, canadian ham60, very large vegetable soup cooked in ramen soup- no noodles(400), turkey burger200, salsa40, green beans150, salad150 (tomato, parsely, scallions, lime juice, olive oil, salt, balsamic vinegar, pepper), yougurt100

Hello all!  I had not had my tabouleh salad (cucumber, tomato, italian parsley, scalions, lemon juice, salt, pepper and a hint of olive oil) in a looooong while and I love the taste of the lemon and the simple taste in it.  There is such a thing as overeating tabouleh salad, which I did.   I had added a small amount of cracked bulgur wheat in it, and I think I was craving for carbo... I have been avoiding carbo in a couple of weeks, now.  At least it was a healthy dish and low in cals.   I did everything I had planned to do yesterday, including going to the gym (1 and 1/2 hr.)  I'll try going again tonight. 

There is a dust of snow covering everything outside - I'm not sure if it's snow of frost.  Have to go check it out.  It sure looks nice.

Inky, my cat, is being nice to me, purring and all, which is a very rare thing.  I guess she is hungry and I better go feed her.

Those pets love to snuggle in cold weather,don't they? Or one dog was glued to my husband last night, It got down to 12 degrees here - we have had unusually mild winter to this point and now it is lower temps than average. Go figure! Great job on the gym!

Hello all!  I had a pretty good day, yesterday: calories were around 1350  but I took a rest from gym work.  Today, I'll be gone all day, helping out with hanging paintings at the gallery for the new show.  Lots of moving around, so if I'm not too tired, I'll hit the gym in the evening - if I miss the stretching session, I get in trouble again with the bad arm.   Will catch up with you later!

Today's food so far: poached egg, canadian bacon, coffee black, almonds, green salad, 3 slices turkey cold cuts, spinach miso soup, cc, starbucks coffee, tabouleh salad, porc grilled, green beans steamed.

Thanks! I smell bread often as I bake wholegrain seeded bread in my bread machine at least twice a week. Hubby eats it as toast and I occasionally get a big slice - too many calories for me. The smell drives me nuts!

I feel so must more rested this morning, what a difference it makes!  Exercise was good, yesterday, foods were not so.  Today is going to be better for I have plans to just say "it's not worth it" when presented with tempting situations.

Hey girl, I haven't been following your entries, but for me it's hard and overwhelming if i try to establish a good exercise routine and a good diet at the same time. That's why I started with the diet and then when I thought that was under control I started putting more effort on working out. It took me almost a month to really start working out. I always think baby steps is what works for me. As for temptations, sometimes it's worth it and sometimes it isn't. If you plan your menus you can make exceptions here and there and eat a muffin or something you want. :)

Hello all!

Had a good day yesterday, including the 1 and 1/2 hr at the gym and excluding having second helpings at dinner time.  I'll try harder to control portions, today.  I'll try to get in a little nap time in my schedule, as well.  I'm like a child:grumpy when I don't get enough sleep, 'nuf said.

Plans for today include healthy food and gym.  Stay well everyone!

Oh no! 5 days sick in London. How awful! Will you return? I'm very happy that I've got the NHS! We never have to spend a penny on healthcare. Great place to retire!

Ok to rant! I can go on and on about the healthcare in the US - the only developed country in the world not to have universal healthcare. I was lucky my kids or I never got really sick or hurt during all the years I had no insurance. I did have good insurance the last 10 years I lived there although lots of co-pays. It's a real crime that people who lose their jobs or get really sick can go bankrupt. I know of a woman whose preemie baby died after a long time in a neonatal unit but they now owe $1million+ for her care.

I have a friend here whose 8 year old daughter has leukemia. She gets great care in a children's cancer ward and it costs the family not a single penny. Healthcare isn't actually free though as it does come out of people's payroll taxes. But even people who don't or have never worked are still entitled. Everyone is. Retirees don't have to choose between buying food or getting prescriptions here. In Scotland they are free to everyone. The dentist is low cost if you can find an NHS one, which I have.

A homehealth nurse makes home visits to new mothers for several months after the birth. No charge.

Anyway, we're on the same wavelength here!

Hello all!  Went to doctor yesterday and it seems like my throat infection is all gone, after a 5 day treatment with antibiotics.  That's really good news and I feel very good about it!  In the evening, on the way back from the store,  I decided to stop at the gym to work my arm - it goes bad  if I miss a day without streching it.   Ended up staying for 1 hr, streching and doing the weights after doing 10 minutes of warm up cardio.  Foods were great, except for the ice cream at ben and jerry's in the afternoon.  One scoop only ;)  

Today is the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens's birthday  - I'm on my last CD of his Great Expectations audio book.  I love his work!

Today's food so far: cup of green tea,  egg poached, canadian bacon, spring greens salad, baked squash, scalloped potatoes, more green tea, 1/2 rice cake140,  baked squash, mung bean noodles with pork and cabbage, pear .

Glad your infection is cured. I've downloaded a lot of the free classics to my Kindle including a Charles Dickens collection. I've seen his grave at Westminster Abbey a few times and find poet's corner with so many great writers and poets my favourite area.
