Good morning!  I feel much better today, but still have a lingering headache that I take care with aleve.  I've been taking so many pills this past few days that it's not even funny.

My daughter and I went to macys, yesterday, to buy back-to-school clothes for my daughter and ended up falling into the trap of a lancome make up makeover session, ha!  We had a good time, the new make up looked great on me and my daughter but I ended up spending a small fortune with serums, creams, eye shadows, liners, etc.  I guess I'll have to blame all this spending to the pills I've been popping this past few days.  I'm considering taking a few items back....  We found at least a half dozen pieces of clothing for my daughter that look great!

Eating went fairly well, yesterday, since I've no appetite, anyway....

Have a good day!

Progress as of today - 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

I always get suckered in too, especially the MAC counter :( I walk out of there in financial RUIN!! hahaha, I am sure this doesn't occur often so enjoy!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!

I am saving for vacation so I am spitting on my mascara brush to get the most from it. LOL! Sounds like a GREAT day. I am jealous.

Maria7 on 09/02/2011:
That is so sweet that you and your Daughter had a nice time together. Enjoy while she is home...once they are grown and out on their own, they get caught up in their own world of different things and responsibilities and have much less time to spend with their parents. Take care and hope you feel better, too.

Good morning!

I can't believe it's already September!  I weighed myself this morning and looks like I've not done very well this summer:  173lbs is just not what I expected to see!  I guess I can always go back to my diet and start all over again....  I do need to get inspired but I'm having a hard time finding that inspiration, right now...

The truth is, I'm recuperating from a sunstroke that hit me hard last Tuesday evening, when I went to an event at my daughter's school.  I like to take my hat everywhere I go because I'm very sensitive to the sun, ever since I had sunstroke as a child.  But this event was in the evening 5pm - 8pm and I didn't think it would be SO SUNNY and hot. I felt very bad during the whole night and had to sleep most of the day yesterday.   Once i get over this, I'll feel more positive towrds life in general....

Have a good day, everyone!

I had the same problem. I gaine 14 pounds in 6 months without even realizing it. It was a wake-up call. It was a sign that I can't just ignore my weight and hope that it will go down on it's own. I have to make a conscious decisions everyday to be healthy. It is a lot of work but I remember how good I felt. Hope things get better and stay out of the sun. LOL.

biscottibody59 on 09/01/2011:
Take good care of yourself! Even when it's obviously hot the severity of what it's doing to you can creep up. Very dangerous!

Good for you facing the scale--you will do fine! I'm going to assume yoga will be in your future:-)

All I will say is that posting here keeps me on the (somewhat) straight and narrow. So I hope you'll keep posting no matter what.

I'm so sorry to hear about the sunstroke, please take it easy! I'm becoming more sun sensitive as I get older and finding I have to wear a hat if I'm out for long periods. Take care!

Im sensitive to the sun too. Summer has become less enjoyable because of this condition. :(

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi everyone!

We've survived an earthquake (5.9) and a hurricane (fringe of Irene) in one single week, and I'm happy to report that this DDer is safe and sound!   Hope is all well with you all!  Loves to all!

Ahh, I'm relieved. I've never experienced natural disasters (only ice storms and heavy rains), but I imagine how scary they are! :-(

Glad you are ok. It has been a crazy week around here!

V on 08/29/2011:
I am hoping that your area is done with the natural disaters, in less that a week apart no less so NO MORE!!! i am glad you guys fared well through both :)

liza36 on 08/29/2011:
I happened to be working from home the day of the earthquake. I too had things fall, but nothing broken like my parents. I've lived through California earthquakes, and did not like them at all! I couldn't believe it was happening in VA. And then the hurricane. It has been an interesting week, but I've fared pretty well compared to others I know. I'm glad you are safe and sound!

moogy on 08/29/2011:
It is a bit rude to throw two things at you in the same week in my opinion!!! I would complain!! I am glad you are all safe and was happy to see your name on the diary lists. Look after yourself:)

Maria7 on 08/29/2011:
Wow! That's a lot in one week. I thank the Lord for keeping us safe! :-)

Wasn't that earthquake crazy? You just don't think that would happen in VA or DC area. I hope you fared ok. My parents live in Vienna and they had some glass break. I had pictures fall, but nothing too terrible.

School is right around the corner. Enjoy the rest of summer, and we'll see you back here soon.

Good morning to all!

I'm still sick, I'm affraid.  :(  I still have sore throat and cold triggered asthma.  However, on saturday I got a very strong energy spurt and cleaned the whole house and did the whole laundry.  Because I was so full of energy, I couldn't sleep... so I was online until 5 am chatting with my friends.  I even caught KathyBlue just before she went out sightseeing, Saturday morning!  I also spoke with another friend who told me the awesome news that her daughter, who happens to be an amazing golf player, has been offered many golf scholarships.  She is a senior now and has to decide which school she wants to go to.  She is down to two choices: Georgetown U or Gonzaga U.  My personal preference is Georgetown (she would be right here, in town!)  I'm so excited for her!  How cool could that be?

Sunday, I took daughter shopping for clothes and ended up buying two pairs of casual shoes for myself.  I still feel unconfortable buying clothes - nothing looks good on me, yuck.  She came home with at least half dozen blouses and pretty underwear...  everything that she wears looks good :)  It's nice to be young and fit! I love shopping for her.

So, now I feel drained, sore and ! want to go back to sleep.... I have my asthma inhaler and pain killers, so, I'll be alright. Stay well, everyone!

Anyway, I hope you get to feeling better soon!

liza36 on 07/26/2011:

Hello everyone!

It turns out that the body aches, the low stamina, headache and the icky feeling I was having was more than heat exhaustion.  A couple of days ago, I started having a terrible sore throat, sinus pain and even worse headache.  It looks like  I came down with a terrible summer cold and have been in bed for days.  Today I feel a bit better, not well, but better.  Maybe 50%.  So, I'm feeling sorry for myself and just hanging in there...

I hope you are all having a better time than I am - That should not be too dificult, :)

Stay well everyone!

aww, sorry to hear that. I cant imagine how horrible it is to fight a cold during the middle of this hot summer! Gets lots of rest and water!

thinkpositive on 07/22/2011:
Sorry you're so sick. Maybe more like a flu? Or sinus infection?

Maria7 on 07/22/2011:
Hope you feel better. Take good care of yourself. :-)

biscottibody59 on 07/23/2011:
Summer colds are terrible, but with extreme heat--I can't imagine! Hope you're doing well and feeling better every day! And thinking about getting back to yoga perhaps?

We get a "dry" heat here for the most part. I heard the DC heat index was in the 120s*F the other day. Nothing to do but find a cool spot when it's like that. (Our heat index rarely is over 105-108. It gives one way or the other--the temp is lower generally when it's humid.)

biscottibody59 on 07/23/2011:
Oh you mentioned the shingles--my eye is essentially fine. I still have a followup with the ophthalmologist next week--I have to be sure and stay on top of that one. I have a little of the rash showing as well as itching--odd/weird itching--like there's really nothing there to itch, yet it itches occasionally. Luckily I don't have the pain everyone seems to report (that can linger long after most of the worst symptoms are gone).

I found that a baby aspirin or two at bedtime lessens the itching that was waking me up from time to time. (Probably a placebo effect--haha!)

Good morning!

My glasses became foggy this morning when I stepped outside - humidity is so high and the high temps are deadly.  A good day (and week) to stay indoors.

Yesterday I was so fatigued that I ended up staying in bed most of the day, reading, sleeping.  I ddin't realized how tired I was after a whole week travelling and on the go.  The only thing I did was going to the library to drop off books that I had borrowed.

My energy level is so low, I'm worried if it's the heat or if it's the age.....  or both :)

Hubby bought me a new blender/smoothie maker.   The other one was so old and falling apart that I needed an upgrade.  He bought me a really fancy one :) So, I'm having frozen bananas smoothies today.

Have a great day everyone!

oh yum! frozen banana smoothies sound perfect for a day like today... have a good one!

thinkpositive on 07/20/2011:
If your low energy/ fatigue continues you may want to see your Dr.Maybe it's just the extreme heat. It is must be so hot & humid if your glasses were fogged.Hope it cools off soon!

sweetpea1977 on 07/20/2011:
When its really hot outside, your body has to work even harder at maintaining its normal temperature (thermoregulation). This requires energy, so its possible that your body is getting worn out just by trying to stay cool. I have suffered heat exhaustion (a precursor to heat stroke) a few times in the last 10 years. NOT FUN! Be sure to wear loose, lightweight, and light colored clothing whenever you go outside. Make sure you only stay out for short periods of time. If you have to go on errands, bring ice water with you to make sure you stay hydrated.

Anyway, that banana smoothie sounds awesome!

V on 07/20/2011:
Of course it is the heat combined with the trip!! You are NOT old so that is not the reason...LOL When i come home from work,I am usually drained for at least an hour, that sun does not play, it can zap the life out of you....Stay hydrated ;)

Hello all!

I'm back from a series of trips to different locations as my daughter's friend came to visit from Switzerland.  NYC was the highlight of her vacation as I took the girls there for 3 days.  The highlight of my trip was watching "anything goes" on broadway. What an incredibly intense city NYC is!

So, I need a vacation myself, from all the tiring sightseeing trips in the hot summer weather.

Also, I am in need to go back to my regimen of eating healthy and moderately, although I think I did pretty well during the holidays.  For certain, I walked a lot and biked some.

I hope everyone is doing great, enjoying their summer!

B: banana shake

L: quesadilhas - low fat cheese, whole wheat tortilhas

s: watercmelon

d: chili beans and rice

Exercise:  Nordic track bike for 45 min

Good morning!

I hope everyone is doing well, enjoying the Summer months, keeping yourselves cool in this terrific hot weather.  All is well with me, just a bit too busy after my daughter came back home from the Summer Enrichment Camp - her friend from Switzerlnad is here to visit, so we have been out and doing stuff all day, every day.  Today is the first day that I decided to let them go on their own.  They took the subway to downtown Washington DC (I live only 5 min walk away from a subway station) and with the city tour tickets in hand, they will be busy and happy, as long as they are together.  Two 14-year-olds having fun in town, on their own.  Tomorrow, I'll take them to NYC and spend 3 days there.  We have tickets for broadway shows and have a list of things that they want to do.  Hubby is working, so it's going to be only the 3 of us: me, my daughter and her friend.  After that, we have more travelling plans... it's been a very busy Summer.  I hope you are all enjoying your summer, too.

Because it's been a hot Summer, my appetite has been down, so I probably have lost a couple of pounds.  But I wouldn't bet on it.  I'll just keep myself active, drink lots of water, eat healthy foods and will not worry about dieting until fall, I think...

Progress as of today - 14 lbs lost so far, only 33 lbs to go!

KathyBlue on 07/11/2011:

Good morning!

I've been on a high protein diet for several days now, and it seems like it's  a very good diet for gaining weight !  3 pounds in the past few days.  The biggest change in my diet is that I drink 2% milk with the shake, so maybe that's the main cause.... I never drank milk before since I don't like the taste of milk and I'm a little allergic to it.   Also, I fell out of control with my foods a couple of times this week, I must remember.  My arms feel and look slimmer and my tummy also feel a bit tighter, so I won't worry too much about it, I figure... Also, because the shake is easy on my stomach, my tummy aches have subdued.  However, reading the scale this morning was a real letdown.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Progress as of today - 14 lbs lost so far, only 33 lbs to go!

KathyBlue on 07/01/2011:
humm, there are other alternatives for milk

shaunnac on 07/01/2011:
if your a little allergic to milk maybe your getting bloated from it therefore that is where the weight comes in?

Umpqua on 07/01/2011:
You could try almond or hazelnut milk as an alternative if the dairy is bothering you. I LOVE the nut milks and the unsweetened ones are pretty low cal. Soy milk, not so much but it's fine when mixed with other stuff. Have a good one!

sweetpea1977 on 07/01/2011:
Are you following a specific high protein diet? Just curious. I've cut way back on carbs, but still get a good balance of lean proteins and veggies in and have been able to lose weight by following the ideas mentioned in the new Atkins book. This diet has been improved so that you can eat a much wider range of produce as well as advises you to eat lean proteins and limit processed foods. It even says you can reintroduce small quantities of bread and pasta once you're in pre-maintenance and maintenance modes. Anyway, thats all FYI, in case you were interested. :)

How is hubby's recovery doing? Is he back on his feet? I hope so!!

thinkpositive on 07/03/2011:
It sounds like you are looking at all of your foods & trying to readjust. I'm sure you will see the numbers go back down soon.

biscottibody59 on 07/04/2011:
Hope the high protein diet is working better by now!

I've never been a milk drinker either and the biggest thing I've noticed since I've really cut back--I don't buy it unless I need it for a recipe--is that my minor stuffy nose at night has completely cleared up. (I'm not an allergy sufferer.)

I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it's a nice change.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments--the shingles are improving, but it seems really slow. Oh and good for you switching to black coffee:-)
