I had a very long and busy day. The day finished with attending my friend's party hosted by an old friend of hers. It was nice meeting a lot of new people, mainly expats that have been living here for a long time. One British lady said she has lived here for over 20 years! Another lady from the US has been teaching English here for 7 years while others were Japanese ladies working as tour guide, architect etc. They were all very inteligent professional women who decided to make this place their home, for one reason or another. Very fun conversationalists.
My diet is not doing too well, too much wine and party food. Tomorrow I'll go to the gym, for sure!
Cheers to all!
Progress as of today - 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!
I went to Asakusa with my friend from Seattle and walked a lot while sightseeing. The main attraction in Asakusa is a Buddhist temple and the shopping district around the area. Three high school students stopped me to interview me. They were such cute boys trying to fulfill their homework assignment in their English class and I was happy to help. We also went to an area called kappabashi, where they sell all kinds of things that restauranteurs need for their businesses. Anything that one can think of that one would need if he owned a restaurant in Japan, he could find it in this district. The main attraction there for us was the plastic food that they make it to look so real! My friend bought some fake plastic sushi to take home. It looks so real you want to eat it! I took lots of photos but they can't be unloaded into my computer due to lack of cable which is still in the sea shipment. That's ok, later, I'll be able to download lots of photos for you, all at once. Here's a link to the area I visited:

(This is not one of my photos, I jus "borrowed" it from the world wide web.)
I also bought something called ningyoyaki - very yummy!
So, there was no gym today, but I did get a lot of walking exercise!

RYC: we get about 4 times as much rain as we need. I'd be happy to send you some! LOL.
RYC: Yeah, Japan is light years ahead of us in broadband and probably internet phone bandwidth (?) too. I'd like a phone with just what I need--no distractions. Then I think it'd be nice to have the latest and greatest. I'll get there:-)
I had a great weekend, I hope you did, too!
Went to the gym on Sunday and worked really hard! Went ahead and bought my new iphone. Just couldn't wait for the 5 series. It takes a little longer to get here, anyway.... We had guests for dinner on Saturday evening - I cooked Mexican Food - something that I never do! It turned out good, so all is well.
This morning I went to the gym as soon as daughter left for school, at 7am. I'm sweaty and must take a shower as soon as I'm done posting here.
I have my first house guest today: she is a friend from Seattle who is leaving her college age daughter at a boarding school here for the semester. I already made her bed and closed the door so that the cats won't sleep in her bed before she does, haha. I'm cooking tonight but I don't know what.
Exercise: done for today and it feels good!
Have a great day, you all!

RYC: the spaghetti was made with a meat substitute - very good but much less calories! Mmm.
Have fun with your guest! :)
Hope you have a good week!
ps whatever you cooked was tasty I'm sure:-)
I went to the gym in the evening because I was so busy, all day long. I weighed myself at the gym and I seem to have lost several pounds. I will not change the weight here because I want to use my scale that I'm used to using, which is coming in my sea shipment goodness knows when.
In the morning, I went online on khan academy to try to learn how to solve algebra word problems so that I can help my daughter who is struggling with it at school. It seems like she is in a class with kids that already had the basics and is doing more difficult stuff now. She needs to learn the basics on her own. I always hated algebra word problems when I was her age, but today I found out that I actually like it! I really recommend khan academy!
I joined a ladies club so that I can do cultural stuff with them (visit museums, day trips to the mountains, making jewery, etc) and met a lot of very nice ladies. They were all older than me (mostly), but they are all fun!
My daughter stayed at school for the first football game and will come back home by subway. A big adventure for her!
I hope everyone is doing well!

Have a good weekend--will catch up with you later:-)
I went to the gym in the morning 4 days in a roll this week. Yay! Food comsumption was not too good, just ok.... I'll get there sooner than later. I can go one hole further on my belt, yay!
I got more furniture in the house. The newly issued furniture is so elegant, I'm so happy with them! Hubby left on a business trip and will return tomorrow night. He'll be surprised to see the nice new furniture ;)
Stay well everyone!

RYC thanks, however, bum refers to the whole thing, unlike buns of steel. LOL! :)
Good morning!
Yesterday, I did well all day long with my food intake, but when I went down to put the food away in the fridge (it was too hot to put away, immediately after dinner) I ended up eating a whole bunch again, standing by the counter. It was like another dinner. How ridiculous is that!
This morning, I forced myself, again, to go to the gym after i sent daughter off to school. I spent 35 min on the eliptical and 30 min doing free weights. I feel energized and ready for the day. Today, I have a meeting at 9.30 at the local american club, so I've got to go. Another opportunity to make new friends. Have a good day, everyone!

I got my exercise in this morning when I hit the gym at 7am, just after sending daughter to school. I had an appointment at 9am, so working out early worked out perfectly! The "meet your child's counselor" gathering was really something: about 100 moms and dads of 9th and 10th grades of the school my daughter goes to, all packed together in this very posh comference room of a posh residential building (well, it's residential starting at the 16th floor.) It was so hot in there, I started sweating bullets, I thought I was going to melt! The counselors were stuck in traffic, so they were late for over one hour for the meeting. I made a really big effort to introduce myself and get to know as many people as I could. It's not easy being new and having to make new friends.... but that's the story of my life.
I hope you are all having a good day.

Good morning! September is my favorite month of the year!
I feel so tired this morning, oh man! I went to back to bed after sending daughter off to school (she doesn't have the holiday off) and I went right back to bed. And slept for another 2 hours, until 9am. I didn't realize how tired I was....
Dinner party went well last night, I made italian food with fresh tomato sauce and (red and green)peppers to pour over pasta. I also grilled albergine and zucchini with olive oil on the stovetop. I found hinoki and oyster mushrooms at the market and grilled those, too. For apetizer, I served lots of different kinds of cheese with crackers and nuts. Dessert was simple: hagen das ice cream (mango and vanilla)and fresh kyoho grapes. If you haven't tried kyoho grapes, you must. They are the tastiest grapes ever - it's like you died and went to heaven! Haha, it's that good!
I plan to go to the gym today and eat leftovers, consciously. Have a great day, everyone!

We have guests for dinner, tonight. I went to the store to buy wine, cheese, and several things that I still needed for the evening. Walked 15 min each way, so I guess that was the exercise for the day. It's not easy to entertain when I don't have my stuff. We are using the hospitality kit stuff (plates, cups, pots and pans, etc) Hopefully, those pots and pans will do their job. It's been raining quite a bit here in tokyo. We needed the rain, the grass was turning a little brown in the garden below....
I hope you are all doing great!

I can't believe it's already September!
Excellent day yesterday: gym and exercising portion control was accomplished. I even ate choux cream for dessert!
I met a couple of new people at the gym - very nice people. The gym here is different, people are more friendly because our spouses all work at the same place, we are like a huge family. Anyway, it's so much easier to make friends at the gym. Another incentive to keep going there.
I finally had some time to paint! My big brushes are in the sea shipment, so I had to use my newly purchased brushes (small), paint (not the quality I'm used to) and paper. It's not optimum but it's good practice...
At night daughter and I walked to our town - the lights, the crowds and the night atmosphere are so energizing! It's very safe to walk on the streets here, at all hours of day and night. I never fear being mugged or harrassed, even when I'm alone - it's the safest place I've ever lived.
Today is Saturday and I may not go to the gym, I need a break. I may go to the pool, instead.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Sounds like you're having a good time! Are you gonna settle in Japan (and eventually retire) or come back to the US maybe?

Glad you had a good time! Yes, lots of expats stay permanently in other countries if they are able to. You'll get back on track when not partying!

Sounds like a great party, it's always fun meeting new people. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your time there!

When we were a military family, I always sought out the foreign wives. I thought they had so much to offer as far as conversation and sharing differences. Even the ones that didn't speak the same language as I did were great to be around. Somehow, we always got along.
