Good morning! 

 

 

 

I hope everyone is doing well, enjoying the Summer months, keeping yourselves cool in this terrific hot weather.  All is well with me, just a bit too busy after my daughter came back home from the Summer Enrichment Camp - her friend from Switzerlnad is here to visit, so we have been out and doing stuff all day, every day.  Today is the first day that I decided to let them go on their own.  They took the subway to downtown Washington DC (I live only 5 min walk away from a subway station) and with the city tour tickets in hand, they will be busy and happy, as long as they are together.  Two 14-year-olds having fun in town, on their own.  Tomorrow, I'll take them to NYC and spend 3 days there.  We have tickets for broadway shows and have a list of things that they want to do.  Hubby is working, so it's going to be only the 3 of us: me, my daughter and her friend.  After that, we have more travelling plans... it's been a very busy Summer.  I hope you are all enjoying your summer, too.

 

Because it's been a hot Summer, my appetite has been down, so I probably have lost a couple of pounds.  But I wouldn't bet on it.  I'll just keep myself active, drink lots of water, eat healthy foods and will not worry about dieting until fall, I think...

ohh wow, that sounds fun fun fun and double fun! :) I can imagine how hillarious is a day out alone for two teenagers, I'd loved to do that, too! Just text your daughter from time to time :)

Good morning!

I've been on a high protein diet for several days now, and it seems like it's  a very good diet for gaining weight !  3 pounds in the past few days.  The biggest change in my diet is that I drink 2% milk with the shake, so maybe that's the main cause.... I never drank milk before since I don't like the taste of milk and I'm a little allergic to it.   Also, I fell out of control with my foods a couple of times this week, I must remember.  My arms feel and look slimmer and my tummy also feel a bit tighter, so I won't worry too much about it, I figure... Also, because the shake is easy on my stomach, my tummy aches have subdued.  However, reading the scale this morning was a real letdown.

if your a little allergic to milk maybe your getting bloated from it therefore that is where the weight comes in?

You could try almond or hazelnut milk as an alternative if the dairy is bothering you. I LOVE the nut milks and the unsweetened ones are pretty low cal. Soy milk, not so much but it's fine when mixed with other stuff. Have a good one!

Are you following a specific high protein diet? Just curious. I've cut way back on carbs, but still get a good balance of lean proteins and veggies in and have been able to lose weight by following the ideas mentioned in the new Atkins book. This diet has been improved so that you can eat a much wider range of produce as well as advises you to eat lean proteins and limit processed foods. It even says you can reintroduce small quantities of bread and pasta once you're in pre-maintenance and maintenance modes. Anyway, thats all FYI, in case you were interested. :)

How is hubby's recovery doing? Is he back on his feet? I hope so!!

It sounds like you are looking at all of your foods & trying to readjust. I'm sure you will see the numbers go back down soon.

Hope the high protein diet is working better by now!

I've never been a milk drinker either and the biggest thing I've noticed since I've really cut back--I don't buy it unless I need it for a recipe--is that my minor stuffy nose at night has completely cleared up. (I'm not an allergy sufferer.)

I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it's a nice change.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments--the shingles are improving, but it seems really slow. Oh and good for you switching to black coffee:-)

Good morning!  I hope eating will be better controled today.  Yesterday, my body was so tired that I felt I didn't have much control over my apetite.  Maybe 200 cals at the end of the day.  Today things will be better, I just know it!  Have a great day, everyone.

Yoga today was SO GOOD!  Very quiet and relaxing.  I love love love yoga!

I spent some time with my neighbor and her friends, yesterday evening.   She saw me outside, in my back yard and she called me to join them for a glass of wine.  It was so lovely to be able to get to know her better and meet her friends....

When I am tired I feel like food will make me have more energy, but that's not ture. It's much easier to overeat when we are tired! Rest up - feel good.

Yeah that is me on Sundays. I am usually so exhausted (mainly mentally) It is tough to stay awake long enough to get proper nourishment...It's okay we all have our days..I hope your evening with well my friend :)

Good morning!

Eating and exercising went very well, yesterday.  Yoga was FANTASTIC -  I still feel the energy!   Today I'm going to take it easy with exercises because yeasterday I did more than I ususally do and I'm tired.... 

Today is going to be a restfull day, mostly painting and watching for workers coming for power washing the deck and the out-side of the house.  The day is gorgeous and I feel good!

Good morning!

I did well, yesterday, with food and exercise - It's actually exciting!

Daughter called last night from camp (one of the 3 scheduled calls) and she is doing well, as expected.

I did gardening (re-potted some herbs and planted some perennials in the ground) and painted all day.  Very productive day, indeed!

My yoga teacher is back from her yoga conference in China, full of renewed inspiration!  I can feel the energy coming from her!

Breakfast: banana, protein drink250

snack: turkey rolls with dijon mustard 120 (370)

lunch: protein drink with banana 250 (620)

snack: cheese sticks, pistachios 120 (740)

dinner: salmon grilled, vegetables grilled 500 (1240)

exercise: yoga, n-track bike

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well!

I was traveling for a couple of days, but I'm back!  Dropping off daughter at the university camp wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be, actually it went very well, no dramatic scenes, haha.  Her roommate seems to be a lovely girl who shares many similar activities with my daughter, especially dance, and she happens to live a couple of miles away from us, although they go to different schools.  They will be able to forget all about dance during this camp :)  This is more like an intellectually challenging camp for really smart kids which will be good for them as they go into high school this coming fall.  I wish I'd had this opportunity when I was her age....

So, I finally have a ME TIME for the next 12 days, which I'll use entirely for my work/fun/passion thing, aka, painting.  BY the way, I'm very excited about new career opportunities that I have given at the art league I belong to:  I've been juried-in enough times, in exhibitions at the art league, that I shall be showing my work in a different section of the galery (Bin Gallery) on a regular basis, all year round.  Of course, I'll continue entering my work into the juried exhibitions, as well.  This is an exciting jump in my painting career!

Diet wise, it's been rough.  At this age (late 40's), it's really been difficult to get one's metabolism going, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up, LOL.  I'm on my way to the yoga studio as soon as I plug this in....

I know the feeling of dropping off daughters at various times of their lives. Glad it wasn't traumatic. Nice that you can concentrate on your art for a good length of time. Yes it is harder to get the metabolism going over 40 & I have discovered for myself that some vigorous exercise plus eating fewer calories does help the process. It may be slower but it can be done.

Good morning!

Yoga in the morning, yesterday - regular teacher is still on vacation.  Substitute teacher was kind and reassuring.  I can't wait for my regular teacher to come back, though....    No yoga today.  I'll go to the gym this afternoon after I drop off daughter at her field hockey camp.

My high protein drinks aka slim fast worked well, yesterday.  I put 1/2 banana in each shake, so it tasted even better.  Aside from that, I had a couple of healthy snacks and a tofu/chicken/veggies/cilantro dinner.   I don't feel any lighter, though.  At least I'm trying.... hard!

I'll be spending the day with my daughter: shopping for the last few items she needs for her summer enrichment camp program at Univ of Virgnia.  She  leaves this weekend...  I'll miss her....

Let me tell you, those enrichment classes comes in very handy and gives a leg up with HS courses :) I am sure you will miss her but you might enjoy a little "Selina Time" while she is gone...Well as far as my summer, I am doing my annual August Chicago trip and perhaps the DD retreat( I haven't heard from loveray yet) So if that falls through I am planning to visit Umpqua and Sweetpea :)...I would love to visit kat as well but realistically I shouldn't spend that type of cash if I am trying to save more :(

Good morning!

Eating went well yesterday, despite the rough start.  Knee was not 100% well after all, so I skipped the gym and did n-track bike at home. Plus some weight exercises. To restart my diet regimen today, I'll drink protein drinks during the day and eat a sensible dinner at night.

Today is my daughter's last day of school, yay!!!! I can't believe she is going on to high school next fall!

Good morning!

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend, I certainly did. 

This past week, things went really wrong with the knee injury right in the beginning of the week, so the whole week was thrown off.   To top it off, it ended with pizza, Sunday night. And some more leftover pizza this morning for breakfast.  I'm ready for a better day and a better week, though.  The worst part of the knee mishap was that I got so depressed not being able to do stuff and for being in pain.  Miserable times....  Knee is doing well (finally!) so today I can go back to the gym.

Good morning!

My knee is still not well, I could hardly walk yesterday, all day, so I did 30 stomach crunches, that's all.   But this morning I feel much better, maybe I'll be able to resume normal exercise in 2-3 days...  Symptoms of getting old, I guess...  Eating was good, probably about 1500cals. 

I have a friend coming over this weekend - can't wait to see her after 5 + years. She is a celebrity in her country, a famous singer - here, nobody recognizes her on the streets, though.  Which is nice, actually.

The weather is cloudy and cool today - it's a perfect day to sleep in and heal.  Have a good day, everyone!
