Assembling the Nordic Track Bike for hubby, installing shelves in the laundry room and assembling a large shelf for the garage were activities that kept me busy and my mind away from worrisome thoughts over the weekend.  I couldn't stay away too long from the streaming footage on TV of the terrifying earthquake/tsunami/nuclear threat in Japan, though.  What a terrible weekend for the poor Japanese people.

Aside from not going to the gym over the weekend, my daughter and I went out for dinner both evenings and had Japanese and Vietnamese foods.  Luckily, both choices were fairly light and healthy, if not a bit too much.  Either way, we enjoyed the mom & daughter dining out experience, plenty.  I did use the newly assembled bike for 10 min to try it out - it seems to be working fine.  I just hope hubby will actually start using it when he returns from Geneva....

For today, I have plans of going to yoga in the morning and gym in the evening.

Have a great day, ladies!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 33 lbs to go!

V on 03/14/2011:
I am super impressed you put the bike together yourself :) When I purchased mine, I paid the extra $50 for them to deliver and put it together, it would have been scary for me! LOL I hope you have a wonderful day :)

sweetpea1977 on 03/14/2011:
Wow, what a physically active weekend you had!!

Glad you enjoyed some mother-daughter time! Cherish those moments!! :)

Umpqua on 03/14/2011:
Japanese and Vietnamese sound wonderful, and great job on the bike! I do get seasonal allergies and I hadn't even made the connection since I'm not sneezing/stuffed up like usual. I just took a Claritin and I think it's working to help with the itching, thanks so much for the recommendation!

loveray on 03/14/2011:
yummy asian food!! hope you have a great day and enjoy yoga:)

liza36 on 03/14/2011:
I have a hard time wathcing the news when these type of catastrophies happen. It's so sad! I'm glad your family and friends are ok. I've emailed a friend of mine who is in Japan (although I'm not sure where she is in relation to the earthquake center), and I'm hopeing to hear from her soon.

Sounds like you were a real handy-woman this weekend. Have a great day!

lifestylechange on 03/14/2011:
way to go on all of that physical activity!! :) have a great day!

lolla on 03/14/2011:
Oi Selina, eu tambem fiquei bem deprimida com as imagens da TV, rezei para que os japoneses se recuperem deste terrivel desastre. Boa semana para voce!

Good job assembling the equipment Selina. Your daughter will remember these special occassions that you and she share - you are making memories that she will keep all her life.:)

It's wonderful to see the sun shining this Saturday morning!  I'm happy to see lots of plants coming out of the ground in my garden, sign of spring!  I'm so curious to see what the previous tenants have planted in the garden, exciting!

Watching the devastation in Japan has been tough for me, it's so sad.  Although my nephew  and my friends say they are OK in Tokyo,  I worry about them because they say there is nothing on the shelves at the supermarket, especially water.  Also, there is the worry of the nuclear plant explosion.  To say the least, things are not ok in Japan.  There is one amazing thing about the Japanese people, though: we never see  lootings or people losing their cool, they are a remarkably self controlled people even under such amazingly dire circumstances.

Yesterday, I had an awesome physical activity day: yoga in the morning and 1 and 1/2 hour of gym in the evening while daughter was in dance class.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 33 lbs to go!

tangalyn on 03/12/2011:
im glad ur nephew and friends r ok.. hopefully things will start looking up for japan very soon.. hope u can have a good day. xx

biscottibody59 on 03/12/2011:
As the news unfolds there, it's just heartbreaking to see. And Japan was supposed to be prepared for this (from everything we hear, though maybe it was all just a myth).

Your "surprise" crop of flowers sounds intriguing:-) Keep up the good work with the activity--you're doing great!

loveray on 03/12/2011:
yay for the sun and glad to hear your friends are ok. sending lots of love!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/12/2011:
i love reading about all the exercise you have been doing! very, very nice work.

as for spring, i'm also so very thankful :-)

biscottibody59 on 03/12/2011:
Forgive me if I sounded a little out of touch--the more I watch the TV coverage the more I see how far out of any imaginable proportions this is--and there's just so much more to find out as the days go by. Definitely not something any one nation could have planned for.

I just wanted you to know I appreciate your comments. You have a special perspective having lived there and I didn't mean to sound insensitive.

I hope your weather allows you to ride bikes soon. I don't do it nearly enough and yesterday's ride was such a shot in the arm for me.

moogy on 03/12/2011:
It will be delightful to see what is hidding under the soil. I suppose if you don't like them or the colours you can always yank them out and replace them, but it is a bit like Christmas isn't it? You are doing such a good job with your exercise, you must be feeling great!! Thank you for your kind comments and yes, my daughter and grandchildren are doing pretty good:)

panda22 on 03/12/2011:
Great job with exercise yesterday! Glad you are having nice weather, I can't wait for Spring to kick in for real....we got a taste of it last month but it was only a teaser. Yeah it's very sad what is happening in Japan, I'm glad your friends are alright, even if things aren't Ok over there yet. Hopefully the aide will get to them asap, and you're right they really are holding together despite the terrible circumstances of events....shows REAL strength!....... Anyway, thanks for the comment....yes the first haircut was a special occasion =) We got lots of pictures and kept his first curl for his baby book...too cute! Have a good rest of your weekend!

sweetpea1977 on 03/14/2011:

UPDATE:  Just got an email from nephew in Tokyo:  "Just wanted to let you know that we are OK. Y was at home getting ready to go visit her mom. I was in my office. She escaped outside, my staff and I evacuated our office just as cabinets were falling over and files flying off the shelves. All transportation stopped, I walked home 45 minutes. Y was in the meeting area of our building with about 50 other residents... she was the only one in her sweat pants (see PJ's), LOL.  After shocks continue and apt. is rocking as I write this. It's Japan's biggest earthquake ever. But don't worry. we are OK."  What a relief!  Tokyo is so far away from the epicenter, yet there is so much damage. So glad that my other friends are ok as well, the embassy got shaken badly but there were no casualties, from what I hear...

I went to yoga this morning and will do the cardio later when daughter goes to dance. Anything to take my mind away from this horrible event.

I'm rivetted to the TV news broadcast about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  I lived in Tokyo for many years (us embassy) and had my share of earthquakes while living there, but nothing of this magnitude.  The scope of this disaster is enormous: watching the waves covering up vast areas of farmland carrying cars and building along the way is just heartbreaking.    I feel so sorry for the poor people of Sendai, the epicenter of the quake and the people living along the coast hit by the tsunami waves.   I still have many friends living in Tokyo but haven't talked to them, yet. Hopefully, they are doing well.  I hear in the news that Tokyo has not been hit badly.

I went to yoga yesterday, it felt really good to be back in class, it was pretty intense, though and I feel sore, this morning.

I hope you are having a great morning.

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 33 lbs to go!

This story deserves an entry of it's own:  while waiting for the delivery of the stationary bike this morning, I decided to do some gardening (dividing the the plants that are crwding the front yard and moving the divided pieces to the back yard, etc, as I found lots of clumped irises there) and had the most amazing surprise: my friend just drove up the curb while I had my hands all muddy in the front yard!  We have been friends for the past 20 + years since our tour at the us embassy/tokyo.  We've been in touch ever since as I visited her in Rome, she visited me in Geneva, etc.  She was in Montevideo in the past 4 years and  I knew she was moving back to town around this time but wasn't sure exactly when.  Anyway, long story short, she just decided to surprise me, and what a wonderful surprise it was!  So, we had a wonderful morning and part of the afternon together, chatting away and getting all the news updated.  We drove to the local Tex-Mex restaurant and had a semi-healthy meal for lunch.   So, there, a big YAY for old friendships!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 33 lbs to go!

moogy on 03/09/2011:
I hope you washed your hands prior to the big hug I am sure you both must have enjoyed. Old friendships, rare things that need to be cherished, they have been through good and bad, ups and downs and both cried and laughed with us. Indeed YAY for old friendships!!

My sister (and her family) left and I already miss her.  It was wonderful to spend some time with her - so rare these days.... she is so busy!  Although they stayed at a hotel because our small townhome could not handle 5 extra people, we were able to spend a lot of time together cooking, shopping, touring the city.  BTW, my congressman couldn't get me tickets for the white house tour (must ask 6 months in advance, just to let you know), but we stayed busy anyway because there was a lot to do.

Hubby also left for Europe yesterday (another 2 week work trip) so things are suddenly quiet around here.

I want to go to yoga this morning but must stay home to wait for a delivery -  Hubby bought a stationary bicycle and they'll deliver today around the time I should be at yoga class.  Oh well.

Last night I went to the gym and did the eliptical for 30 min and 15 min weights.   I think I'm getting back into the swing of things, yay!

Thank you all for your warmest welcome back, I appreciate it!   After the flu, I'm slowly easing myself back to the exercise routine - I had my first cardio session (eliptical) yesterday evening for 20 minutes and broke out in a sweat.  I saw my yoga teacher at the mall on Sunday and she told me to take it easy... I plan to return to yoga, maybe tomorrow.  Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning!

My body is telling me something, I can't figure out.  Is it a cold I'm catching?  I missed going to the gym for cardio yesterday evening - just felt so blah and didn't care.  I hope today will be a better one.

I've been busy putting in a new bathroom in the house, I mean, the contractors will be doing that.  My part is shopping for everything that goes in there: tiles, bath tub, fixtures, everything.  Not too much fun...

Have a good day!
