(gym, low carb, gym, low sugar)
Weight: 168.5

I had a stomach ache last night I couldn't sleep very well.  I have no idea why...  Today, I took a zantac and hoped I felt better.  I didn't go to the gym but I got lots of walking done, sightseeing with my friend who is leaving tonight.  I visited a shrine in Tokyo, not too far from my house.  Here's the link to it if you are interested:  http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3002.htm

My stomach is still upset but I have to go to a dinner party this evening....

I hope everyone is doing well.

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 09/14/2012:
Your link to the shrine is missing an "l" at the end - FYI! Looks beautiful, I'm sure you had a nice time. I hope your tummy feels better!

V on 09/14/2012:
I hope your tummy feels better before your party <3

grannyannie on 09/14/2012:
Hope your tummy feels better soon! Hope you can enjoy the dinner party.

Maria7 on 09/14/2012:
I hope you feel better. :-)

It's Thursday morning and I'm done with my exercise routine: 40 min at the eliptical and 30 min weights.  Yay!  It feels soooo good!  The secret is going very early in the morning as soon as daughter leaves for school.

Cheers to all!

liza36 on 09/13/2012:
You're doing great by getting your exercise done in the morning (and out of the way!). Sounds like you are meeting lots of interesting people (yesterday's party), which is so nice. Enjoy your day.

Maria7 on 09/13/2012:
Good on the exercise...yayyyyy! :-D

inmorning on 09/13/2012:
I find getting my exercise in before I have a chance to talk myself out of it or even realize what a pain it is helps me too!

Nice workout today. Good luck on the weekend.

I had a very long and busy day.  The day finished with attending my friend's party hosted by an old friend of hers.  It was nice meeting a lot of new people, mainly expats that have been living here for a long time.  One British lady said she has lived here for over 20 years!  Another lady from the US has been teaching English here for 7 years while others were Japanese ladies working as tour guide, architect etc.  They were all very inteligent professional women who decided to make this place their home, for one reason or another.  Very fun conversationalists.

My diet is not doing too well, too much wine and party food.  Tomorrow I'll go to the gym, for sure!

Cheers to all!

supercheese on 09/12/2012:
Sounds like you're having a good time! Are you gonna settle in Japan (and eventually retire) or come back to the US maybe?

grannyannie on 09/12/2012:
Glad you had a good time! Yes, lots of expats stay permanently in other countries if they are able to. You'll get back on track when not partying!

Umpqua on 09/12/2012:
Sounds like a great party, it's always fun meeting new people. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your time there!

inmorning on 09/12/2012:
When we were a military family, I always sought out the foreign wives. I thought they had so much to offer as far as conversation and sharing differences. Even the ones that didn't speak the same language as I did were great to be around. Somehow, we always got along.

V on 09/12/2012:
Well at least you are making friends :) I wouldn't worry too much about a little indulging since you get your workouts in frequently..Have a good morning :)

I went to Asakusa with my friend from Seattle and walked a lot while sightseeing.  The main attraction in Asakusa is a Buddhist temple and the shopping district around the area.  Three high school students stopped me to interview me.  They were such cute boys trying to fulfill their homework assignment in their English class and I was happy to help.  We also went to an area called kappabashi, where they sell all kinds of things that restauranteurs need for their businesses.  Anything that one can think of that one would need if he owned a restaurant in Japan, he could find it in this district.  The main attraction there for us was the plastic food that they make it to look so real!  My friend bought some fake plastic sushi to take home.  It looks so real you want to eat it!  I took lots of photos but they can't be unloaded into my computer due to lack of cable which is still in the sea shipment.  That's ok, later, I'll be able to download lots of photos for you, all at once.  Here's a link to the area I visited:

(This is not one of my photos, I jus "borrowed" it from the world wide web.)

I also bought something called ningyoyaki - very yummy!

So, there was no gym today, but I did get a lot of walking exercise!

I love the story behind how the temple was started. Love the Kimonos, especially the blue one, I bet that would look awesome on you :) Have a good evening!

thenewMLE on 09/11/2012:
Sounds like a beautiful trip. Funny thing about plastic food - when my girls were smaller they had a "full" play kitchen and we collected fake food! It was amazing how real some of it looked. The last pieces we acquired were sushi!! That's when the girls had really developed a taste for it. They actually had to have an extra fridge and pantry because they wanted their food laid out and "displayed" not just thrown on top of each other. I think they wound up with over 500 pieces. My favorites were the ice cream scoops...We found their play menu just a few weeks ago. It was their artwork and hand written on the inside were their specialties. We had laminated it. I cried....Where does the time go???

legcramps on 09/11/2012:
Wow! All sounds so interesting! I hope you're having a fantastic time there so far :)

grannyannie on 09/11/2012:
Sounds so interesting! Glad you are enjoying yourself so much!

RYC: we get about 4 times as much rain as we need. I'd be happy to send you some! LOL.

grannyannie on 09/11/2012:
RYC rain boots.... I already live in my raincoat! :(

V on 09/11/2012:
LOL!! I would love to wear one too but I fear that I wouldn't be ladylike either, not too keen on crossing my legs! Hahahaha ;)

biscottibody59 on 09/11/2012:
I hope you keep enjoying your time with your friend--your hostessing skills are getting a workout for sure:-) You may need a vacation soon!

RYC: Yeah, Japan is light years ahead of us in broadband and probably internet phone bandwidth (?) too. I'd like a phone with just what I need--no distractions. Then I think it'd be nice to have the latest and greatest. I'll get there:-)

thinkpositive on 09/12/2012:
Love to hear about what you are seeing - I've heard of others talking about being interviewed in Japan- good practice.

I had a great weekend, I hope you did, too!

Went to the gym on Sunday and worked really hard!  Went ahead and bought my new iphone.  Just couldn't wait for the 5 series.  It takes a little longer to get here, anyway.... We had guests for dinner on Saturday evening - I cooked  Mexican Food - something that I never do!  It turned out good, so all is well.

This morning I went to the gym as soon as daughter left for school, at 7am.  I'm sweaty and must take a shower as soon as I'm done posting here.

I have my first house guest today: she is a friend from Seattle who is leaving her college age daughter at a boarding school here for the semester.  I already made her bed and closed the door so that the cats won't sleep in her bed before she does, haha.  I'm cooking tonight but I don't know what.

Exercise: done for today and it feels good!

Have a great day, you all!

Now that you mention it, I used to take zyrtek before and did pretty well with it. I just hate giving into taking something year round. I probably will have to though. :-P Have a great day.

grannyannie on 09/10/2012:
Well done!! Enjoy your guest!

RYC: the spaghetti was made with a meat substitute - very good but much less calories! Mmm.

thinkpositive on 09/10/2012:
You sound so settled- that's great. Thanks for the encouragement on my situation. I'm managing and in the end it will all be ok. And Mexican, guess you can buy anything you want where you are , as I can too.

great job this weekend!

Have fun with your guest! :)

I went to the gym in the evening because I was so busy, all day long.  I weighed myself at the gym and I seem to have lost several pounds.  I will not change the weight here because I want to use my scale that I'm used to using, which is coming in my sea shipment goodness knows when.

In the morning, I went online on khan academy to try to learn how to solve algebra word problems so that I can help my daughter who is struggling with it at school.  It seems like she is in a class with kids that already had the basics and is doing more difficult stuff now.  She needs to learn the basics on her own.  I always hated algebra word problems when I was her age, but today I found out that I actually like it!  I really recommend khan academy!

I joined a ladies club so that I can do cultural stuff with them (visit museums, day trips to the mountains, making jewery, etc) and met a lot of very nice ladies.  They were all older than me (mostly), but they are all fun!

My daughter stayed at school for the first football game and will come back home by subway.  A big adventure for her!

I hope everyone is doing well!

It's funny how some things that baffled us as kids are more fun when we are adults. I feel that way about math, too. I'll have to check out the khan academy....wtg on your loss!

Maria7 on 09/07/2012:
The ladies club sounds interesting! :-)

grannyannie on 09/07/2012:
Good luck with the math, never was my favourite subject! The ladies club sounds great! Have an amazing weekend!

biscottibody59 on 09/07/2012:
I've been meaning to check out "Khan." Math--not great at it, but it does give a sense of accomplishment.

Have a good weekend--will catch up with you later:-)

I went to the gym in the morning 4 days in a roll this week. Yay!  Food comsumption was not too good, just ok....  I'll get there sooner than later.  I can go one hole further on my belt, yay!

I got more furniture in the house.  The newly issued furniture is so elegant, I'm so happy with them!  Hubby left on a business trip and will return tomorrow night.  He'll be surprised to see the nice new furniture ;)

Stay well everyone!

Yahoo for a tighter belt! And good job going to the gym 4 days straight! Congrats on new furniture. :)

RYC thanks, however, bum refers to the whole thing, unlike buns of steel. LOL! :)

Maria7 on 09/06/2012:
Yes, def you are on a roll with the 4 days in a row to the gym. Keep up the good work! Happy for ya about your new furniture...sounds real nice. :-)

liza36 on 09/06/2012:
Sounds like a great day - new furniture and a smaller belt.

V on 09/06/2012:
Yayyy for new furniture and you are doing such a great job with the workouts :) Oh RYC I haven't heard any speakers yet since it is on a little late for me but I have access to view the convention/speakers via "on demand" which I plan on tuning into on one of my days off. I heard rave reviews on Michelle's and Clinton's speech, can't wait to hear them

Good morning!

Yesterday, I did well all day long with my food intake, but when I went down to put the food away in the fridge (it was too hot to put away, immediately after dinner)  I ended up eating a whole bunch again, standing by the counter.  It was like another dinner.  How ridiculous is that!

This morning, I forced myself, again, to go to the gym after i sent daughter off to school.  I spent 35 min on the eliptical and 30 min doing free weights.  I feel energized and ready for the day.  Today, I have a meeting at 9.30 at the local american club, so I've got to go.  Another opportunity to make new friends.  Have a good day, everyone!

Great job on your work out, 35 min on an eliptical is quite a work out and then you did free weights too. Very impressive, keep up the good work!

I got my exercise in this morning when I hit the gym at 7am, just after sending daughter to school.  I had an appointment at 9am, so working out early worked out perfectly!  The "meet your child's counselor" gathering was really something: about 100 moms and dads of 9th and 10th grades of the school my daughter goes to, all packed together in this very posh comference room of a posh residential building (well, it's residential starting at the 16th floor.)  It was so hot in there, I started sweating bullets, I thought I was going to melt!  The counselors were stuck in traffic, so they were late for over one hour for the meeting.   I made a really big effort to introduce myself and get to know as many people as I could.  It's not easy being new and having to make new friends.... but that's the story of my life.

I hope you are all having a good day.

I can relate to making new friends. We have to do it to survive but it's not always easy. Are there activities for you to join? Artists gatherings? Good for you for getting to the gym!

V on 09/04/2012:
Great job on getting your workout done early what an awesome feeling of accomplishment not to mention that the rest of the day is open! I hope you had a good day <3

Good morning!  September is my favorite month of the year!

I feel so tired this morning, oh man!  I went to back to bed after sending daughter off to school (she doesn't have the holiday off) and I went right back to bed.  And slept for another 2 hours, until 9am.   I didn't realize how tired I was....

Dinner party went well last night, I made italian food with fresh tomato sauce and (red and green)peppers to pour over pasta.  I also grilled albergine and zucchini with olive oil on the stovetop.  I found hinoki and oyster mushrooms at the market and grilled those, too.  For apetizer, I served lots of different kinds of cheese with crackers and nuts.  Dessert was simple: hagen das ice cream (mango and vanilla)and fresh kyoho grapes.   If you haven't tried kyoho grapes, you must.  They are the tastiest grapes ever - it's like you died and went to heaven! Haha, it's that good!

I plan to go to the gym today and eat leftovers, consciously.  Have a great day, everyone!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

The party sounds like it went really well. Congrats. Sometimes, those extra unplanned naps after sending the kids out are nice. :-)
