Well done on the weight loss Selina. Lovely view, I am sooo jealous of your coloured trees. It is mostly green all year round here, with the occassional exotic coloured tree thrown in just to tease me. Thank you so much for the comments you left on my diary, it was lovely of you to remember about my difficulties. You are a gem.

DAY 5 of Challenge

Good morning ladies!

I did well yesterday and did not eat any of the candy from the pile I ditributed and daughter collected.  The amount of candy that get shifted on Halloween is INSaNE!

Today is another day and it is proving to be a tough one.  It's 9:15 am and I already ate a 1/2 bar of butterfinger.  The day is long and I can recover as long as I keep the candy out of my sight!

Breakfast: 2 poached eggs 140. 1/2 butterfinger 135 lots of H2O (275)

snack: none

lunch: chili 300 (575)

snack: banana 100 (675)

LOL stay away from the candy Selina!!!! This shall indeed prove to be a challenge for you!!! A local dentist here has asked any an all with excessive amounts of candy to bring it in and he plans to ship it to troops overseas....

Maria7 on 11/01/2010:
Oh, I LOVE butterfingers! (And lots of other candies!). You did real well! Hope you have a nice day! :-D

chidogs on 11/01/2010:
Halloween candy is truly evil. Lock it away. :)

Umpqua on 11/01/2010:
We also have an insane amount of candy in the house. I had a few last night and now I'm telling myself the boys get the rest - not for me!!

sweetpea1977 on 11/01/2010:
We ran out of our candy, so I started recycling the candy that Ethan collected. He collected a full pumpkin's worth and there is no need for him to have all that candy! But, I ended up giving away all the candy I knew he wouldnt like. The funny part is that he recieved a 6 pack of oreos, an oatmeal cream pie, and 3 snack packs of pretzels. Bizzare.

Anyway, I have stayed away from the candy so far, but may treat myself to a piece every now and then as a dessert. :)

Have a healthy day!

I bought little bags of chips to hand out and I ended up going out for supper so I only got about 12 kids!!! That means I have more than 40 little bags of chips in my house 8-]

I hid some in the front porch ;-) because I hardly ever go there.

Day 4 of my challenge of staying under 1350 cals/day.

Good morning ladies!!!!  I'm so excited - after so many weeks, the scale is moving again downwards, yay!

I did get to go to the rally - which was awesome - AND I was able to stay under 1350.  I was hungry at the Mall I would probably have succumbed to the hot dogs and pretzels if the lines were not so long, ha! I didn't buy any snacks but am not too proud of myself.  I did have almonds in my bag, so that's what I and daughter ate (Hubby didn't want to come with us to the Rally but he did come to the Mall to pick us up when we called him saying the lines at the Metro were too long!  He's so sweet, our hero!)  While at the Mall, after the rally, daughter and I went to the National Galery to see 2 exhibits I was looking forward to seeing and looking for an opportunity to go: Arcimboldo and Munch. I loved the Arcimboldo exhibit and hated Munch!

I made V's collards green dish and chili for dinner, yum!  I hope you all had a great Saturday and is ready for a great Sunday!

Have a great day you all!

Breakfast: cinamon rolls 300 coffee 30 (330)

lunch: collard greens 100, chili100 (530)

snack: edamame 150 (680)

dinner: re wine 120, pasta with meat sauce500  (1300)

I hope I won't want to eat anything else.  Will drink some water to keep myself/my tummy amused....

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 33.5 lbs to go!

V on 10/31/2010:
Congrats on your loss and resisting temptation!!!i think now that you are settled in finally you will see the scale declining at a steady pace :) enjoy the collards and have a Happy Halloween!

Good morning, ladies!

DAY 3 of my staying under 1350 cals challenge!

I hope I can do it, today, for it's Saturday and it's harder on weekends when I have my family around asking for "something good to eat." It's going to be a challenge!

Yesterday was good, though.  I stayed under the cals, although I did change the menu in the end.

Today, I'm going to bundle up, wear my gloves, heavy coat and hat and drive downtown with Hubby and daughter in toll for the the Rally To Restore Sanity in Washingotn DC.  Look for me on TV. (Just kidding!)

Breakfast: cinamon roll (150), coffee(30) 180

Good morning ladies!

Today is DAY 2 of keeping cals under 1350.

Yesterday was a very successful day.  I kept cals low throughout the day and had a decent dinner and even had a 1/2 glass of red wine before dinner.  For dinner, I was planning to make the chicken enchilada dish that someone posted here but when I looked for the tortillas in the pantry, I couldn't find any.  Oh. well.  Hubby and daughter ate the chicken with english muffins, instead. Inpromptu dinners is the story of my life, ha!

Have a great day, everyone!

I tried to make changes to my bio page but I forgot how to do that... please help.   Is it me or is the website acting up?

yeah, the city is ... under rain now. Just take a look at the news: http://www.publico.pt/Local/chuva-intensa-inunda-zonas-ribeirinhas-e-baixa-de-lisboa_1463441

I like this challenge of keeping under 1350, that's a good initiative. I cannot keep it though, I need to have a good breakfast before the tennis trainings and then I tend to eat unnecessarily at night... Not bad, unhealthy stuff.. just something, a slice of pão integral, a yogurt...

sweetpea1977 on 10/29/2010:
Regarding our cats and dog situation: When we moved in together in my house, we kept the pets separated at first. The cats stayed in our finished basement with the door closed and my dog stayed upstairs. After a while, we bought a baby gate and put it in the doorway connecting the main part of the house to the basement so that the cats and dogs could see and smell each other, but be safe at the same time. The cats jumped over the fence and explored the main level of the house and the dog didnt care. In fact, she is scared of them and leaves them alone. The cats tolerate her, but will hiss and paw at her if she gets in their way. Anyway, once we saw their reactions to each other, we took down the gate and let them go whereever they wanted. In the future, I hope to adopt a female puppy and a female kitten together, so that they'll naturally get along. I alway sense tension whenever our current pets get too close to each other and I just dont think its fair to any of them to feel stressed out.

Those enchiladas sound amazing dont they? I think I'll try making them this weekend since Im craving Mexican and Southwestern foods. :)

Oh to change your bio go to "Account Maintenence" and there is a link on there somewhere to edit your bio.

I'm recycling this photo of Inky that I took last year in Switzerland.....  isn't she a cutie?

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday, the weather turned out to be pretty miserable after all.  The rain, the wind, the high temps, everything combined to become a muggy, yucky day.  And we are just around the corner from November -  I'm blaming it all to global warming.  Luckily, I see a tremendoulsy wonderful weekend weather - sunny and cool.  Perfect weather to go to the Jon Stewart rally at The Mall, ha!

Ok, I know I've been just coasting along with my weight loss thingy, blaming on the move and all.  However, now that things have settled down, I'm going to take this seriously.  Starting today, I'm going to (try) counting calories and keep it below 1350cals a day.  Let's see how it goes until Thanksgiving when I'm going to see many family members.  I don't want them to know I gained so much weight, and the last time they saw me was when I was 15 pounds lighter - so the challenge is on.

Please, let me know of a good calorie counter website if you have any favorites.  I used to use one a long time ago but I don't know where it went....

Have a good day, everyone!

Breakfast: tea with splash of L/F milk (30), oatmeal (75) with 1/2 banana (50)  155

snack: asparagus and cauliflower with light dressing (150) 205

lunch: bean soup (300) 505

snack: almonds (170) 675

no fat milk (90), 765

dinner: red wine (125), a small portion of chicken enchilada, no tortilla (?) small cup spinach/tofu miso soup (150), green salad (100) total: about 1300 cals

Progress as of today: 12.5 lbs lost so far, only 34.5 lbs to go!

KathyBlue on 10/28/2010:
ohhh, I left a comment today on your previous entry... Calorie counter website... I think, FitDay is cool...

V on 10/28/2010:
Selina you have lots of time to turn this around and I know you can do it...Have a great day :)

sweetpea1977 on 10/28/2010:
I remember these photos! Love them!!

We hade the same weather...YUCK! Forecast says we'll be seeing the sun peek out today. I still havent seen it. As long as the temps stays low, I guess I can deal with more dreariness. I dont want any more hot humid temps and monsoons for the rest of the year!

Are you going to the rally this weekend? I think getmebackto150 is! I want to go so bad. I love Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert!

Sounds like you got some motivation to get back on track. Best wishes to you selina!

KathyBlue on 10/28/2010:
wow, loooovely photos :) Inky is sooo pretty, looks just as fluffy as our Orion! :) But does she let you fondle him? Because Orion is a stuuuupid cat, always running away from us, then he comes once at night to ask for fondling ... :)

OK, Selina, so did your comment mean that you are going to join me in keeping your eating behaviour under control or under a certain number of calories? It would be lovely to have someone to count day the days with me, so please could you let me know. Yes, definietly you will have to get rid of some of those pounds before your Thanksgiving if relatives will be seeing you for the first time since your return. That's a good reason to buckle under and fly right (bit of a mixed metaphor, but you know what I mean).

Good morning ladies!

I am loving the fall weather and the beautiful color display in this area, unbelievably stunning!  Today is a rainy day, though, so I imagine by the time the rain is over the leaves will also be gone? The rain is also so wonderful and I love listening to it while in bed - and we really needed it! Anyway, enjoy the rain, the fall leaves, everything, while we can!

Yesterday I put up the curtains in my bedroom and family room.  I also went to the store to buy a Halloween costume for my daughter and, since I was at it, I bought the candy to distribute to the kids on Halloween.  I hear that we are going to have a lot of children coming by our neighborhood, so I bought 14 pounds (!!!!) of candy.

Today, I have to work on the curtains in my studio... I also need to buy another hammer because I can't find my old one in the mess of the sea shipment.  I did find the power drill, so that's good.

Have a good day, everyone!

Breakfast: 2 poached eggs

Wow, 14 lbs of candy!! We bought 4lbs and Im stressed about handling leftovers...Im hoping their isnt any. At least Im not tempted by the Blow Pops and Twizzlers. Its the PB cups and Hershey bars Im worried about. :)

Its raining pretty hard here and the wind is pretty crazy. Im sure all our beautiful fall folliage will be gone by the time this huge front finally passes. :(

BTW, I couldnt find my hammer once, so I used the heel of a dress shoe as a hammer. It worked great and the shoe didnt get damaged! :)

i also love hearing the rain, i love having my bed near a window so i can fall asleep listening to the rain hit the roof, it is a very relaxing sound.. i also have a ton of candy for the trick or treaters, amazingly it has remained in the closet where i put (hid) it the day i got it, i am worried about the day those bags get opened tho.. hopefully there will be alot of kids so there wont be any left over!! this is my first halloween in this area so i have no idea how many to expect.. anyways, hope u have a wonderful day :)

So nice to see your comment! Good to see you're getting settled after this move. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it, but pencils are a good alternative to candy. The little kids actually preferred them--as crazy as that sounds--I was always shocked at the reaction. And that I never had any left. Oh, and they can't have both--one or the other.

I heartily recommend the book--to anyone--for me it provided perspectives about food that I never would have thought of.

Enjoy your day and the rain!

Umpqua on 10/27/2010:
We are getting rain too, which makes it difficult to get out of bed! That's a LOT of candy. You're going to be working hard with all those trick or treaters. Hope you have a great day!

I love fall weather too, watching the trees turn color and feeling the crisp fresh air! It's great ;-) Have a wonderful day today!

What a lot of candy! (Send some over this way...I like chocolate and nuts kind!) :-D

Maria7 on 10/27/2010:
Hehehe! :-D

14 lbs of candy! I am so glad we don't do Trick or Treat at our house anymore. Our daughter is all grown up and we don't even know any of the ones that come and ring the bell anymore so we go out to dinner! Sounds like you are getting moved in and settled. That's good-even if not FUN! I had soup and salad for lunch today, too!

RYC: Oh, the pencil instead of candy idea came from a Dear Abby column years ago.

moogy on 10/27/2010:
Hey, a hammer is cheaper than a power drill, silver linings!! I hope LOTS of children stop by your house, you are going to be a favourite neighbour, maybe that is your sneaky plan. The nice lady who just moved in!!!!! LOL

loveray on 10/27/2010:
I LOVE fall and halloween - what are you going to dress as? i hope you post some pics!

V on 10/27/2010:
Sounds like you had a productive and very busy day! A woman's work is never done! LOl i hope you had a chance to get a little time in for yourself :)

I wonder what would happen if you'd distribute carrots and tomatoes instead of candies, as a Halloween mission on "healthy eating" :) Most probably you wouldn't have to worry about Halloween again, bc the kids wouldn't return in the next few years, LOL... :-P "See, there's that crazy woman who gave me a vegetable instead of a nice and cozy chocolate bar.." :))))))

There you can miss Swiss chocolates! :)

Check my entry again, I posted a black cats funny Halloween pic! :)

(calorie counting, walking, biking, chilling)
Weight: 169.5

Yay!  DD is back!   I hope everyone is doing well.

So, it's been fun, NOT, in the past week unpacking and putting stuff away for sea shipment arrived exactly a week ago.  Last week, the house looked like a messy curio shop, but it looks pretty decent right now, although I still have a lot to do: putting paintings, pictures up on the walls, putting things away, etc.  I have been carrying a lot of boxes and stuff up and down the stairs, so that counts as exercise. I haven't been paying attention to my food but haven't put on any extra weight, so that's good.

Today's menu:

B: Tea, 2 eggs poached

snack: almonds

Lunch: tabouleh salad, miso soup (with baby leaves spinach and tofu)

snack: celery, laughing cow cheese

dinner: beef, steamed veggies (cauliflower, brocoli, asparagus), couscous

Progress as of today: 12.5 lbs lost so far, only 34.5 lbs to go!

Wow, a whole week of getting unpacked and re-organized! FUN! :) At least you're burning lots of calories through all of it!

Menu looks great!

just42day on 10/26/2010:
Congrats on getting settled and burning lots of calories in the process. That's fabulous that you've maintained and not gained -- which can be challenging when under the stress of settling in. Good for you!

Umpqua on 10/26/2010:
Excellent job of maintaining. I hope you get everything organized soon, and good to see you back here!

V on 10/26/2010:
With all of the chaos I am happy to hear you are maintaining, but then again you always do well! Have a wonderful day :)

V on 10/26/2010:
Thank you Selina :)

moogy on 10/26/2010:
I feel as if I have missed all the yuccky unpacking and have arrived back in time to say "Well, this looks nice", well done Selina, I am sure all that lifting kept you from gaining any weight. At least you have everything now, you do don't you? Your menu looks very healthy. Have a good one. Love Moogy

Sounds like you've been getting in plenty of exercise with all that unpacking the sea shipments. Hope you and yours are having a nice day. :-D
