Good morning!
So yesterday I didn't get to go to Bed Bath and Beyond just because didn't enough time, which was good because I had forgotten that in the US we can use coupons! Thank you so much Lisa and everyone! Great tip! I did go online at the store's site and subscribed for coupons They sent me a printable coupon to my email address, I shall print it today (as soon as I get the printer out of the box and get it set withe the computer) and will use it at the store. Thanks again!
As for my sweet cat, he stopped coming to the house as soon as the new tenants got a dog. I don't blame the cat, imagine a huge dog guarding the house that once belonged to him! What a shock! I will try to convince my husband to bring him to the US with us. It's going to be a difficult task because he never liked the male cat so much, as he did the girl cats.... Anyway, I feel a little better to hear that he was spotted at my old neighbor's house, the lady who used to feed my cats when we went on holidays...
Eating yesterday went very well and included the following: cffee, veggie omelet, tuna n half bagel, corn on the cob, peanuts, rice and chili con carne. Will try to do even better today.
Progress as of today - 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!
Good morning ladies!
Yesterday I did fairly well since I was not hungry most of the day due to overeating pasta the night before. I was able to end the day a little over 1000 cals, which was great. These were my foods yesterday: coffee, a nectarine, edamame, a fogazza toast, and some pasta (small amount) for dinner.
The cats are doing great, excited about the new world out there, but I just learned that the cat I left in Switzerland with the new tenants in the house is MIA. I'm heartbroken.
Today, I'm going to the store to buy a bathroom scale... and a shower curtain, more trash cans, shower curtain for daughter (she has been using our shower) mattress covers, shower caddy for my shampoo stuff, etc, etc. the shopping list is long and it never seems to end! C'est la vie!
Have a good day ladies!
Breakfast: coffee, tea, veggie omelet
snack: pistachios

I was going to say the same thing as liza regarding BB&B coupons. If you dont receive the coupons, go to their website and sign up for them. They're great!!
BTW, I googled fogazza toast and now I want some! Did you follow a specific recipe? Just curious!
Good morning!
So I woke up this morning with a terrible sore throat that I decided to go back to sleep after daughter left for school. I was able to sleep for another 2 hours on the couch, next to the door where Inky will knock on when she returns. She came back home late yesterday evening after her long explore of her new neighborhood. This morning she wanted to go out again the first thing after she woke up, so I let her out... Selina is more shy and seems to be happier in the house.
So, the Salvation Army came to pick up sofas and a computer desk, also a lot of stuff that was in storage for 13 years... they still looked good, but we want to upgrade.... I was delighted they came to pick up, imagine if we had to deliver!
I feel much better now, after the morning nap. I'm getting sick and tired of this upper respiratory problem tormenting me since Paris, so it's been almost a month! I've been to two doctors, already, but the cough and sore throat still linger...
Last night I was feeling tired and sore and felt like comfort food: I ate a whole lot of pasta with meat/tomato sauce that undermined my past days' efforts. I was mad at myself, but c'est la vie. I will do better today.
Stay well, everyone!

Good morning! Thank you so much for stopping by my diary, sweet ladies. I shall be more active here as things gets settled....
So, yesterday I did go out for a walk for about 40 min, just to get reacquainted with the old neighborhood - what a beatiful place this is! I love the park, the exercise circuit along the trails, the beautiful homes that have been built around the park, the bike path, the friendly people. It's great to be back! The flowering cherry trees that hubby and I planted in the back of the house 17 years ago are now enormous, competing in hight with the native oak, ash and dogwood. I was concerned that the park authority would cut them down, since it's park property, but they didn't seem to mind ;)
The weather has been great: cool mornings and evenings, warm days. It's just like in Switzerland! Soon, we'll be seeing the leaves turning color into bright reds and yellows, this is just a gorgeous season!
Didn't get around to actually painting the garage, after all, yesterday. There is a lot that needs to be done before painting... cleaning, prepping, putting stuff away. Maybe I'll get to it today, maybe not. We'll see.
Have a great day you all!
Breakfst: tea, egg and veggie omelet
lunch: brocoli, onions, beef stir fry
Progress as of today - 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!
Breakfast and lunch sound great!! Hope the rest of your day goes well!
Sounds like you're getting settled in. :-)
IM BAAAACK!
After nearly a week in a hotel (and a whole month on the road,) I'm finally home! The stored furniture people came in the beginning of the week but the air shipment didn't arrive until Friday with my towels, bedding and kitchen stuff, thus our need to stay in a hotel. On Sunday, the cable/computer/telephone/cell phone person came, so now we have all of that. My computer is giving me a hard time, it doesn't start! I wonder what the trouble is... meanwhile, I will continue using the laptop. I think I'll just buy a new computer, but the problem is that I have so many photos stored in that computer which I haven't saved in a disk.... Will figure something out in time.
The house I live in has its back to a beautifully wooded city park, so I see lots of people jogging/walking/biking/strolling on the shaddy bike path just a dozen yards away from my backyard gate - the beginning ot the path is just down the street. One more reason to take up walking again - the convenience of it!
My only problem right now is my cough that doesn't seem to want to go away - very annoying! I might be allergic to something around here.... The cats are doing well and seem to be totally happy in the new house. This week I shall allow them to venture outdoors a little. Inky is ready to get out and explore but Selina seems to be still a little shy. My only concern with the cats is that the trees are so much taller around here (at least twice as tall) and I fear I'll be needing to call the fire dept to rescue them from the tree tops, as they love climbing... Hubby thinks I worry too much and I think that's an understatement.
I have been watching my food intake, so I don't suppose I should be much heavier when I get to weigh myself. I still don't have a scale - must buy a new one because the old one stayed behind in Geneva. I have been buying so much stuff - vacuum cleaner (large and hand held), 2 TVs, VCR, printer/scanner, every day I must go to the store to buy essentials which is so time, energy and money consuming! Can't wait to settle down. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen so soon because the sea shipment with its 250 +boxes hasn't arrived yet. I don't even know when it will arrive... maybe in 3 weeks or so. Also, I have to buy a car - I'm still using the one we rented in NYC over a week ago and that's getting a little too expensive. Today, I have plans to paint the garage walls, which look pretty shabby. I just came back from the store with the off-white paint , maskig tape and the painting kit. Joy...
Please forgive me, I still don't have time to comment in your diary entries but I have been reading them. Stay well everyone!

Enjoy turning your house back into your home. :)
Hello all! It's been a few days back in American soil and we are still living in a hotel. The good thing about it is that I don't need to cook, the bad thing is that we have to eat out every day and the choices available are not always good...
The air shipment arrives this week, as well as our furniture: we'll be able to live in our house soon. Inky and Selina spend their first 1/2 day in the empty house being sheepish and hiding in the furnace room. After that, they have been mostly sleeping in the most unlikely places, inside the bathtub, etc. Poor things, they seem to be downright depressed.
As for myself, I can't wait for things to become normal again. sorry I haven't commented in your diaries. will do, as soon as i have more computer time.

I'm back in the US of A! The transatlantic Queen Mary 2 docked at NYC - Brooklyn Harbour yesterday morning (I woke up real early to see the Statue of Liberty, etc as we approached NYC, exciting!) We drove from mid-town Manhattan to Washington DC area without one single wrong turn! Looked at our town house where we are moving into in a week or so when our stuff arrives - it looks pretty nice! The trees have grown substantially, looks more "lived" and neighborly. Meanwhile, we are still in a hotel, tough. Will pick up the cats this morning at the kennel/cattery - can't wait to give them a big hug and bury my face in their soft fur.
All went well during our travels, except for a cold that I caught in Paris - that scratchy throat turned into a big uggly sinus/lung cold. Saw a physician in London and another one on the QM2, who prescribed me antibiotics. The good thing was that I had all the time to spare to rest and get well. The bad thing was that I missed touring London and a good part of the cruise ship activities. All things considered, I was fortunate enough to get ill where the best medical care was easily available. Also, this will give be a very good excuse to go back to London for a visit, since this time around I spent the whole time (4 days) in bed and with room service
Now I'm all well and healthy to get started with part 2 of our move.
Hope you are all well and healthy. I shall read your entries in the next few days, it's still a hectic life. It's great to be back to DD, otherwise!

I have a day left in Paris and will use it by going to the Orsay Museum - mz favorite of all and <daughter and <i want to show it to mz husband... It.s been a challenge to use this <french keyboard at the hotel... words on the kezbord do not correspond to the letters on the screen. what a nightmare, ha- All is well except for a tickle in mz throat. I hope it$s not going to develop into a full blown cold. Food has been great, will definetlz go back to dieting-whatever when <i settle down. stay well everyone----

Stay well!
Just wanted to wish you all the best there and to let you know I'm going to be away from here for a month at least. Just needed a break--hard to break the DDs habit--but will be good to come back too!
Hope you keep posting once you're completely settled in your permanent place. Take care girlie!
Update: I just weighed myself this morning and guess what, my weight is unchanged! That's amazing after all unrestrained eating I've done. The only way I can explain this phenomenon is that although I've been eating well, the portions served have been European - small and beautifully presented. I can only rejoyce, count my blessings and jump right back on the losing pounds business! Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you all ladies for stopping by my diary, I hope all is well with you! I'm so sorry I have not been commenting, but I have been stopping by here on a regular basis, just to see what's going on with you all. I do have to share this laptop with a computer greedy 13-year-old and a husband (who is not so greedy) so that's my excuse.
Wow, what a ride it has been, this moving business! I'm physically and mentally exhausted and will need a couple of weeks holidays. Moving has been stressful but we are done with it: the packers have come and gone and I saved exactly 2,000 dollars by deep cleaning the house on my own (that's the rate they charge around here, yikes) and passing inspection, yesterday. I did have to pay around that much for being overweight on my sea freight, so all evens out...
I shipped the cats air cargo this morning and they should get to Dulles Int. Airport today at 3.30pm local time. I feel so sorry for them, imagine going through this ordeal. They will be picked up by the kennel people who will take care of them for two weeks, until we come to rescue them on Sep 3rd.
I know that the following is a very poor excuse, but here goes: In the past 5 days we have been running an expense account that covers SO MUCH of restaurant bills and hotel, so I have not been very low calorie oriented when ordering, to put it mildly. We have also been going every day to restaurants that we would normally reserve for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.... this is definetly not good for my diet. So, I'm not dieting. That's a problem with expense accounts: use it or lose it. We've been eating Thai food, Lebanese, Italian, Swiss (a very hoity-toity place in a building from the year 1200s) and today, we'll go to the nicest Japanese restaurant in town for sushi and sake, yum.
Tomorrow, we are going to Paris, and stay at a friend's house for 3 days, yay! From now on, in Paris and London, we have to pay for food out of our own pocket, so I shall remember my weight control regimen to save some money and lose pounds, ha! Paris, here we come!
Stay well everyone. I wish everyone a wonderfully healthy weekend!

Anyway, congrats on not gaining anything. Thats pretty awesome while on a luxurious vacation!! :) Enjoy the rest of your trip!
So, I'm still the same weight, no gains, yay! Now I have to concentrate on losing.I was able to weigh myself for I forgot to include the scale in the move, but that's ok. This one will go to the salvation army and I shall buy a better one in the US... perhaps one that will show a lighter me?
Stay well , everyone!

OH I hope kitty gets to go home with you :( I like male cats more by a long way. Once they are fixed they are WAY better behaved then the girls ;) At least at our house they are. Good luck finding him and have agreat day today!
Maria7 on 09/18/2010:
I hope you do get him back...he must feel sooooo LOST. :-(
Maria7 on 09/18/2010:
PS...I thought Inky was a male too...

I figured that clever cat would find a new home. I have know a few that eat a two or three homes unbeknownst to their owners. It sounds like yours has adopted the lady who used to feed him. I am glad you had a good eating day, sounds like you are getting into the swing of things. Have a good day today and a great weekend.

i knew the cat would surface :) So what are the chances that your hubby will agree to it????

RE: Bed, bath & beyond: Those stores will accept their own EXPIRED coupons plus you can use up to 4 (or is it 5 coupons) per visit -- at least that's the story at my local BB&B. Enjoy your shopping. Love, love that store.
