Good morning ladies!

I'm annoyed at the scale that weighed me at 177.9 this morning although I had a flawless eating day yesterday.  I think the scale is faulty and shall convince myself to take it back if it doesn't mend its ways...

Today I shall be seeing a friend for lunch - last time I saw her was 5 years ago.  Fun!

Breakfast: coffee, oatmeal with 1/2 banana

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

V on 09/21/2010:
Okay this scale is starting to piss me off! LOL ! Time to exchange it. have fun with your friend today :)

Maria7 on 09/21/2010:
What a 2-faced scale!!!

Have fun with lunch out with your friend today! :-)

sweetpea1977 on 09/21/2010:
How frustrating. I'd definitely exchange it for a different brand!

Enjoy your reunion with your friend!

Umpqua on 09/21/2010:
Yeah, those are some big fluxes over a couple of days. Maybe try a different scale....hope you have a great day!

just42day on 09/21/2010:
Have a great reunion with your friend. 5 years is a long time. Enjoy!

breakaway on 09/21/2010:
Scales can be that way for sure. Did you drink lots of water before weighing in?

moogy on 09/21/2010:
It sounds like you bought one of those unreliable, selfish scales, threaten to take it back with firm and scary words!!! Lunch sounds as if it will be great fun.

Good Morning Ladies!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and are ready for a whole week of activities and taking care of one's health.   I have my brand new scale, yay!  It's skinny, shiny and digital.  The only problem is that it weighed me at 179 yesterday evening when I returned from the store and weighed myself. As a result, this morning I decided to go on a strict diet and even made my oatmeal and all but decided to weigh myself again after using the bathroom, and guess what, I'm exactly 173.3, only .3 higher than when I weighed myself in Geneva, before the big move.  So there, I'm loving this scale!  I hope to see the numbers on it go down and down, from now on.

I'm going to finish painting the garage today, the half that I've painted looks fantastic!  Can't wait to finish doing stuff around the house so that I can start with my watercolors again!

And, I almost forgot, I bought a car over the weekend and I'm happy to get rid of the expensive rental that I had since NYC. Yay!

Have a good day, ladies!

Breakfast:  oatmeal with 1/2 banana and 1/2 peach 150, coffee 50 ( 200)

snack: pistachios 100 (300)

lunch: black bean soup 300, corn on the cob, without butter 110 (710)

snack: edamame 100 (810)

dinner: cream of mushroom soup (300), caponata (200)?  (around 1300 Cals)

jello with fruit cocktail 150 (1450cals total)

Exercise: paint the rest of the garage (done!)

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

just42day on 09/20/2010:
Congrats on the new scale. Glad it's cooperating with you! :)

V on 09/20/2010:
Well that's a relief! LOL!!! I am sure with all of your painting and moving in that weight will drop sooner than you think! Have a good day Selina :)

KathyBlue on 09/20/2010:
eheheh, scales are just like that! I'm extremely happy every time I see the same number on my home scale, then on the Dr's office scale, and on the gym scale... I call it: COINCIDENCE! :)

Maria7 on 09/20/2010:
Your garage sounds real lovely. That's real good for exercise, too!

Always nice to get an 'agreeable scale'...this one that I got last year weighs me about 5 pounds MORE than my old one did!

Glad you and your famly are getting settled in and having your own car helps a lot, doesn't it? Hope you have a nice day! :-D

liza36 on 09/20/2010:
I always weigh myself in the morning, I think it's the best gauge rather than at the end of the day. Glad you have a brand new scale.

Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate it!

breakaway on 09/20/2010:
GOOD SCALE! Way to go! Have a nice day today :D

Umpqua on 09/20/2010:
Yay for a new scale! And for maintaining your weight with all that travel, that's awesome! As for the eggplant, I've been sauteing it with onions and peppers in a bit of olive oil, then I add some tomato paste, water and a touch of white wine and let the whole thing simmer. It's really tasty! I also do eggplant parmesan on occasion but it's a lot of work and I'm trying to avoid bread crumbs.

sweetpea1977 on 09/20/2010:
Wow, way to go on the weight. Sounds like you did great while on your big trip back home. :)

Thank you so much for the photo compliments. You are too kind! I know people have probably already pestered you about this, but I am looking forward to you posting pictures in your entries again. :)

Congrats on the new car too!!

moogy on 09/20/2010:
Isn't that great, such a little gain and you have really been through a lot over the last few weeks. That is really wonderful, and with your new neighbourhood and all the walkers you will have got rid of that in a couple of days. I love it that you are planning on being stricter with yourself. It is something you can do now you are settled. It is amazing what a good trip to the bathroom can accomplish!!!! Thank you so much for your very wise comments, I appreciate them very much. You are a gem.

Good morning!

So yesterday I didn't get to go to Bed Bath and Beyond just because didn't enough time, which was good because I had forgotten that in the US we can use coupons!  Thank you so much Lisa and everyone!  Great tip!  I did go online at the store's site and subscribed for coupons  They sent me a printable coupon to my email address, I shall print it today (as soon as I get the printer out of the box and get it set withe the computer) and will use it at the store.  Thanks again!

As for my sweet cat, he stopped coming to the house as soon as the  new tenants got a dog.  I don't blame the cat, imagine a huge dog guarding the house that once belonged to him!  What a shock!  I will try to convince my husband to bring him to the US with us.   It's going to be a difficult task because he never liked the male cat so much, as he did the girl cats.... Anyway, I feel a little better to hear that he was spotted at my old neighbor's house, the lady who used to feed my cats when we went on holidays...

Eating yesterday went very well and included the following: cffee, veggie omelet, tuna n half bagel, corn on the cob, peanuts,  rice and chili con carne.  Will try to do even better today.

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

hiya, hope ur havin a great day :)

breakaway on 09/18/2010:
OH I hope kitty gets to go home with you :( I like male cats more by a long way. Once they are fixed they are WAY better behaved then the girls ;) At least at our house they are. Good luck finding him and have agreat day today!

Maria7 on 09/18/2010:
I hope you do get him back...he must feel sooooo LOST. :-(

Maria7 on 09/18/2010:
PS...I thought Inky was a male too...

moogy on 09/18/2010:
I figured that clever cat would find a new home. I have know a few that eat a two or three homes unbeknownst to their owners. It sounds like yours has adopted the lady who used to feed him. I am glad you had a good eating day, sounds like you are getting into the swing of things. Have a good day today and a great weekend.

V on 09/18/2010:
i knew the cat would surface :) So what are the chances that your hubby will agree to it????

just42day on 09/19/2010:
RE: Bed, bath & beyond: Those stores will accept their own EXPIRED coupons plus you can use up to 4 (or is it 5 coupons) per visit -- at least that's the story at my local BB&B. Enjoy your shopping. Love, love that store.

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did fairly well since I was not hungry most of the day due to overeating pasta the night before.  I was able to end the day a little over 1000 cals, which was great.  These were my foods yesterday: coffee,  a nectarine, edamame, a fogazza toast, and some pasta (small amount) for dinner.

The cats are doing great, excited about the new world out there, but I just learned that the cat I left in Switzerland with the new tenants in the house is MIA.  I'm heartbroken.

Today, I'm going to the store to buy a bathroom scale... and a shower curtain, more trash cans, shower curtain for daughter (she has been using our shower) mattress covers, shower caddy for my shampoo stuff, etc, etc.  the shopping list is long and it never seems to end!  C'est la vie!

Have a good day ladies!

i am sure the cat will show up :) Enjoy your weekend

liza36 on 09/17/2010:
Are you buying all your stuff at Bed, Bath and Beyond? I get coupons in the mail EVERY week! Even though they have an expiration date on them, the store will still take them. 20% off each item is a nice little discount. Have a great weekend! Oh, I'm sorry about your cat in Switzerland. I hope he turns up.

KathyBlue on 09/17/2010:
Sad about the cat, but let's hope he's fine and will show up later.. Have a nice weekend and try to get the PC fixed so we can see photos! :D

sweetpea1977 on 09/17/2010:
I hope your Swiss kitty makes it back home.

I was going to say the same thing as liza regarding BB&B coupons. If you dont receive the coupons, go to their website and sign up for them. They're great!!

BTW, I googled fogazza toast and now I want some! Did you follow a specific recipe? Just curious!

legcramps on 09/17/2010:
I'm sorry you've heard the cat in Switzerland is missing. I hope it turns up soon!

moogy on 09/17/2010:
You know what cats are like, you don't so much own them as they allow you to care for them. I know that they find a new place to live quite often when they go MIA. Please don't worry too much they are wiley creature and very self sufficent. I say that it has adopted a new family - stick with that!! You had a great eating day yesterday, really good. I love lots of shopping to set up a new place, like nesting. Have a good day selina.

Good morning!

So I woke up this morning with a terrible sore throat that I decided to go back to sleep after daughter left for school.  I was able to sleep for another 2 hours on the couch, next to the door where Inky will knock on when she returns.  She came back home late yesterday evening after her long explore of her new neighborhood.  This morning she wanted to go out again the first thing after she woke up, so I let her out...  Selina is more shy and seems to be happier in the house.

So, the Salvation Army came to pick up sofas and a computer desk, also a lot of stuff that was in storage for 13 years... they still looked good, but we want to upgrade....  I was delighted they came to pick up, imagine if we had to deliver!

I feel much better now, after the morning nap.  I'm getting sick and tired of this upper respiratory problem tormenting me since Paris, so it's been almost a month!  I've been to two doctors, already, but the cough and sore throat still linger...

Last night I was feeling tired and sore and felt like comfort food: I ate a whole lot of pasta with meat/tomato sauce that undermined my past days' efforts.  I was mad at myself, but c'est la vie.  I will do better today.

Stay well, everyone!

Yes, today is a new day. I am glad the cats have settled in and that they have established "their turf" in the neighbourhood. That's always a relief - are they going to come back?????? I got a bad cough about six weeks ago and was pretty sick, I am still coughing now, and I just know it is not going to stop until the weather warms up. Maybe we have the same thing. Noosa is a few hours from Sydney up the coast, a favourite holiday and tourist town, the beaches are great, lots of surfers, relaxed atmosphere, really "cool" town. My cousin lives just down the coast a little. It sounds as if you are having a good clear out - that's great, fresh stuff for a fresh start. I hope you have a better eating day today, but you know, you have been doing so well with all the travelling and moving. Having a little comfort food after all you have been through is definitely acceptable. Have a great day.Yes, today is a new day. Good morning!  Thank you so much for stopping by my diary, sweet ladies.  I shall be more active here as things gets settled....

So, yesterday I did go out for a walk for about 40 min, just to get reacquainted with the old neighborhood - what a beatiful place this is!  I love the park, the exercise circuit along the trails, the beautiful homes that have been built around the park, the bike path, the friendly people.  It's great to be back!  The flowering cherry trees that hubby and I planted in the back of the house 17 years ago are now enormous, competing in hight with the native oak, ash and dogwood.  I was concerned that the park authority would cut them down, since it's park property, but they didn't seem to mind ;)

The weather has been great: cool mornings and evenings, warm days.  It's just like in Switzerland!   Soon, we'll be seeing the leaves turning color into bright reds and yellows, this is just a gorgeous season!

Didn't get around to actually painting the garage, after all, yesterday. There is a lot that needs to be done before painting... cleaning, prepping, putting stuff away.  Maybe I'll get to it today, maybe not.  We'll see.

Have a great day you all!

After nearly a week in a hotel (and a whole month on the road,) I'm finally home!  The stored furniture people came in the beginning of the week but the air shipment didn't arrive until Friday with my towels, bedding and kitchen stuff, thus our need to stay in a hotel.  On Sunday, the cable/computer/telephone/cell phone person came, so now we have all of that.  My computer is giving me a hard time, it doesn't start!  I wonder what the trouble is... meanwhile, I will continue using the laptop.  I think I'll just buy a new computer, but the problem is that I have so many photos stored in that computer which I haven't saved in a disk....  Will figure something out in time.

The house I live in has its back to a beautifully wooded city park, so I see lots of people jogging/walking/biking/strolling  on the shaddy bike path just a dozen yards away from my backyard gate - the beginning ot the path is just down the street.  One more reason to take up walking again - the convenience of it!

My only problem right now is my cough that doesn't seem to want to go away - very annoying!  I might be allergic to something around here....  The cats are doing well and seem to be totally happy in the new house.  This week I shall allow them to venture outdoors a little.  Inky is ready to get out and explore but Selina seems to be still a little shy.  My only concern with the cats is that the trees are so much taller around here (at least twice as tall) and I fear I'll be needing to call the fire dept to rescue them from the tree tops, as they love climbing...  Hubby thinks I worry too much and I think that's an understatement.

I have been watching my food intake, so I don't suppose I should be much heavier when I get to weigh myself.  I still don't have a scale - must buy a new one because the old one stayed behind in Geneva.  I have been buying so much stuff  - vacuum cleaner (large and hand held), 2 TVs, VCR, printer/scanner,  every day I must go to the store to buy essentials  which is so time, energy and money consuming!  Can't wait to settle down.  Unfortunately, that's not going to happen so soon because the sea shipment with its 250 +boxes hasn't arrived yet.  I don't even know when it will arrive...  maybe in 3 weeks or so.  Also, I have to buy a car - I'm still using the one we rented in NYC over a week ago and that's getting a little too expensive.   Today,  I have plans to paint the garage walls, which look pretty shabby.  I just came back from the store with the off-white paint , maskig tape and the painting kit.  Joy...

Please forgive me, I still don't have time to comment in your diary entries but I have been reading them.    Stay well everyone!

I think you'd find it really funny: Diana Cooper : Animal Hotel. She doesn't work but she always tries to create a business locally. That's where the name come from: Animal Hotel... :) And they are collecting artifacts and she says that whenever they move, some stuff disappear.. Wonder if that's better nowadays with all those boxes sealed and numbered... :)

Hello all!  It's been a few days back in American soil and we are still living in a hotel.  The good thing about it is that I don't need to cook, the bad thing is that we have to eat out every day and the choices available are not always good...

The air shipment arrives this week, as well as our furniture: we'll be able to live in our house soon.  Inky and Selina spend their first 1/2 day in the empty house being sheepish and hiding in the furnace room.  After that, they have been mostly sleeping in the most unlikely places, inside the bathtub, etc.  Poor things, they seem to be downright depressed.

As for myself, I can't wait for things to become normal again.  sorry I haven't commented in your diaries.  will do, as soon as i have more computer time.

I'm back in the US of A!  The transatlantic Queen Mary 2 docked at NYC - Brooklyn Harbour yesterday morning (I woke up real early to see the Statue of Liberty, etc as we approached NYC, exciting!) We drove from mid-town Manhattan to Washington DC area without one single wrong turn!  Looked at our town house where we are moving into in a week or so when our stuff arrives - it looks pretty nice!  The trees have grown substantially, looks more "lived" and neighborly.  Meanwhile, we are still in a hotel, tough.  Will pick up the cats this morning at the kennel/cattery - can't wait to give them a big hug and bury my face in their soft fur.

All went well during our travels, except for a cold that I caught in Paris - that scratchy throat turned into a big uggly sinus/lung cold.  Saw a physician in London and another one on the QM2, who prescribed me antibiotics.  The good thing was that I had all the time to spare to rest and get well.  The bad thing was that I missed touring London and a good part of the cruise ship activities.  All things considered, I was fortunate enough to get ill where the best medical care was easily available.  Also, this will give be a very good excuse to go back to London for a visit, since this time around I spent the whole time (4 days) in bed and with room service

Now I'm all well and healthy to get started with part 2 of our move.

Hope you are all well and healthy.  I shall read your entries in the next few days, it's still a hectic life.  It's great to be back to DD, otherwise!

I hope it$s not going to develop into a full blown cold.  Food has been great, will definetlz go back to dieting-whatever when <i settle down.  stay well everyone----

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

Hello to you! Glad you and your family are continuing to enjoy your travel. Thanks for sharing with us about where you all are currently and about the museum visit. As for the french keyboard, it's fine. We can tell what you are saying easily. Hope you feel better. Try to get some chicken broth. Take care. :-)

Hope you're doing all right--got to DC safe and sound--had a good and enjoyable trip--must've been a blast on the boat!

Just wanted to wish you all the best there and to let you know I'm going to be away from here for a month at least. Just needed a break--hard to break the DDs habit--but will be good to come back too!

Hope you keep posting once you're completely settled in your permanent place. Take care girlie!
