(calorie counting, walking, biking, chilling)
Weight: 173.0

Update:  I just weighed myself this morning and guess what, my weight is unchanged!  That's amazing after all unrestrained eating I've done.  The only way I can explain this phenomenon is that although I've been eating well,  the portions served have been European  - small and beautifully presented.  I can only rejoyce, count my blessings and jump right back on the losing pounds business!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you all ladies for stopping by my diary, I hope all is well with you!  I'm so sorry I have not been commenting, but I have been stopping by here on a regular basis, just to see what's going on with you all.  I do have to share this laptop with a computer greedy 13-year-old and a husband (who is not so greedy) so that's my excuse.

Wow, what a ride it has been, this moving business!  I'm physically and mentally exhausted and will need a couple of weeks holidays.  Moving has been stressful but we are done with it: the packers have come and gone and I saved exactly 2,000 dollars by deep cleaning the house on my own (that's the rate they charge around here, yikes) and passing inspection, yesterday.   I did have to pay around that much for being overweight on my sea freight, so all evens out...

I shipped the cats air cargo this morning and they should get to Dulles Int. Airport today at 3.30pm local time.  I feel so sorry for them, imagine going through this ordeal.  They will be picked up by the kennel people who will take care of them for two weeks, until we come to rescue them on Sep 3rd.

I know that the following is a very poor excuse, but here goes: In the past 5 days we have been running an expense account that covers SO MUCH of restaurant bills and hotel, so I have not been very low calorie oriented when ordering, to put it mildly.   We have also been going every day to restaurants that we would normally reserve for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries....   this is definetly not good for my diet.  So, I'm not dieting.  That's a problem with expense accounts: use it or lose it.  We've been eating Thai food, Lebanese, Italian, Swiss (a very hoity-toity place in a building from the year 1200s) and today, we'll go to the nicest Japanese restaurant in town for sushi and sake, yum.

Tomorrow, we are going to Paris, and stay at a friend's house for 3 days, yay!  From now on, in Paris and London, we have to pay for food out of our own pocket, so I shall remember my weight control regimen to save some money and lose pounds, ha!  Paris, here we come!

Stay well everyone.  I wish everyone a wonderfully healthy weekend!

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

Selina enjoy your vacation! We really do miss all of your beautiful pics and stories :)

legcramps on 08/20/2010:
Enjoy!

just42day on 08/20/2010:
Personally, I think that's great that you're treating yourself to nice restaurants which you normally save for special occasions. Moves are stressful. If a company expects a family to pick up and move, it SHOULD treat you nicely. I'm sure you'll get back on track. I'm sure your cats will arrive safely and will be delighted to be back on the ground. Animals, like children, have much more resilancy (sp?) than adults....

Maria7 on 08/20/2010:
Sounds like you're having a good time. Good to see/read an entry from you! :-)

cleaneating on 08/20/2010:
Enjoy Paris!

sweetpea1977 on 08/21/2010:
Personally, I think its wonderful that you able to enjoy all the best foods and ambiance that Europe has to offer! What a memorable way to close a beautiful chapter in your life. :)

Anyway, congrats on not gaining anything. Thats pretty awesome while on a luxurious vacation!! :) Enjoy the rest of your trip!

geevee on 08/21/2010:
Dietary detours are part of life. I'm glad you're enjoying yours at all those lovely restaurants. You'll be back on track soon but you'll have such nice food memories of Europe.

Umpqua on 08/21/2010:
I would be eating what I wanted if given those opportunities in Europe. And that's great that the scale is the same - wonderful news! I hope you have fun with your friends in Paris and enjoy your vacation.

Maria7 on 08/21/2010:
Congrats on maintaining your weight! :-)

moogy on 08/21/2010:
Well done on maintaining, keep going girl, fingers crossed you can keep up this good work.

V on 08/22/2010:
Yes!!!! And never ever diet on vacation, it will drive you nuts!!!!!!

So, I'm still the same weight, no gains, yay!  Now I have to concentrate on losing.I was able to weigh myself for I forgot to include the scale in the move, but that's ok.  This one will go to the salvation army and I shall buy a better one in the US...  perhaps one that will show a lighter me?

Stay well  , everyone!

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/15/2010:
Oh, well done Selina, that is absolutely a big win for you. Staying the same whilst on the move. Credit to you girl!!

hollybelle on 08/15/2010:
Where in the US will you live? If I may ask. The loss/toss of the scale could be a good thing!!

Maria7 on 08/15/2010:
Hey, Selena. Yep, scales sure can be a lot different. The one I had before that Hubby got rid of weighed me lighter than the one I have now. :-)

just42day on 08/15/2010:
You're doing great if you're not gaining during such a stressful time. Keep at it and early welcome to the USA!

moogy on 08/18/2010:
Hi Selina, Hope everything is going well and that you are enjoying the journey. I look forward to your update.

biscottibody59 on 08/18/2010:

Take care!

Good morning all!  Thank you for the mssages you left me - although I got my computer taken away to air shipment, now I officially have a laptop, although I have to share it with my family!  Ok, eating has been really bad recently but now things will calm down, I hope.  I ended up having too much stuff to move and pay an extra couple thousand dollars for it, but that's life.  The hardest part was to have to leave behind so many things I wanted to keep - mostly heavy pottery that I sort of collected when posted in Tokyo, Japan.  Just called the salvation army and they are coming to pick up my treasures  :(  That's ok, it's just stuff.  We are moving on to a hotel this weekend and will leave the area within the week.  The cats are sensing something is going on... they seem to be more needy and Inky, who never meows, was doing that a lot yesterday!  I'm sad to leave Tartine behind.  (Tartine is my male cat, although he has a girl's name, given by this child who gave him to us whenhe moved away) The new tenants in this house agreeed to take care of him and I think it's best to leave him here because he's never got used to being a house cat - he only comes home when he needs to eat or when is gets in a fight and needs attention.  We are taking the 2 female cats(Inky and Selina) with us to the US, though. They will leave this weekend and will wait for us in a cattery in VA.

Sorry for the long entry.  I'll be checking in as often as I can!  Have a great day, you all!

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/13/2010:
So lovely to hear from you, it was an unexpected and wonderful suprise. It is hard moving around with pets, we were lucky that the Air Force paid for our pets housing while we where between houses. I hope the cats move well, you obviously love them very much. I am delighted that you will be able to stay in touch. Speak to you soon.

Bikiniwax85 on 08/13/2010:
Oo... U are not in DC yet? That is soo sad to hear about Tartine!!! Well, never the less life to move on yes? Hope everything is doing great for you!! take care! xoxo..

Maria7 on 08/13/2010:
So you're taking the two black cats? Tartine is the gray one, isn't he? How long have you had the two black cats? Have they traveled with you to Japan and other places? I don't blame you. I'd want to take my cats with me, too! Glad you still have access to key an entry. Will you get to take your laptop with you on your trips to London, Paris, and NYC? I can sense your energy in your entry. Sort of an excitement. :-D Hope you're having a real nice day!

liza36 on 08/13/2010:
I'm sorry you had to leave some of your treasures behind - both your cat and pottery! But as you say, it comes with the territory of moving.

I am in Fairfax County too. It will be so nice to have a fellow DD so close. Safe travels!

Hello all!

Move update: the movers are still here.  They came on Monday and have been packing non stop since then.   So, I have been so tired of it all.  Eating has been as crazy as the move: sometimes not enough, sometimes the wrong things and sometimes just right,  I am presently surrounded with 383 carton boxes of all shapes and sizes, ready to be moved on to ship containers.  Finally, husband got the laptop figured out to work at home.  Will be more or less at home until this weekend, but after that we are on the road on vacation until we get to DC area in Sep.  Will try to stop by for updates, so sorry if I don't visit your diaries - will catch up when things slow down.  Cheers to you all!

I've been rather busy today, still tossing things away, a last minute thing - and can't remeber what I ate, except that I was pretty moderate...  Good night, ladies!

*************************************************************

So I actually did very well, yesterday. Yay for me!  However, when I got on the scale this morning, that thing didn't agree with me, ha.  I shall not change my weight here, since I'll just assume it's retention d'eau ;) Pardon my French!  Will try by best today to get rid of the water retention ;)

And since you guys seem to like my photography, here's some more from Lucern farmer's market:

And this is Lavaux and its famous vineyards,  very near my house.  The lake is Lake Geneva (aka Lake Leman) and the mountains are the Alps (Swiss Alps towards the left and French Alps to the right of the photo.) I took this photo from the train, on the way back from Lucern, the other day... yes, I shall miss the beauty of this country.

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/08/2010:
What are the purple flowers? I am going to guess artichoke but I am probably just showing my ignorance. Thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated. I so miss living in a green country with lots of water, I know I left England when I was 12 but I think it might be genetic urges, my daughter feels the same way, she yearns for green and she was born in Australia, it must be her Irish roots!!

moogy on 08/08/2010:
yes, now you say thistle, I can see that the leaves to look at bit like scottish thistles, green and purple are my favourite colours so I was naturally interested. Must be why I love lavender!

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
AHHHH no, this is a PERFECT photo here!!! I'm melting... check the photos I shared from Ă“bidos yesterday, they are sooo crappy... :-( Don't you want to come to Lisbon any time soon? We should meet! I'm thinking about this since sweetpea met loveray one of these days :D How's that, we're so close, and they met in US, how big is that, even some cities are bigger than Portugal or Switzerland itself!!! :)

just42day on 08/08/2010:
Beautiful picturs! Thanks so much for sharing them. I'm sure your water retention will disappear soon?

tangalyn on 08/08/2010:
i LOVE the pics!! im sure ur weight will go back down... keep up the good work, have a good day :)

Gorgeous photos!!!

Kathy is cute. Loveray and I (as well as Grumpy and another former DD member) live in the same city, so that is how we are able to meet up with each other so easily. However, I'd love to meet up with other ladies from the States and around the world! :)

loveray on 08/08/2010:
amazing photo= i want to switch lives with you!! and agreed on sweetpeas comment- i will post a forum regarding a DD retreat!! xo

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:
OHHHHHH MY MY MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS! Especially the one of the alps and the lake and all. Thank you for sharing and hope you're having a nice evening! :-D As for water retention, sodium (as well as other things) will do it every time!

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:
Thanks, Selena! Have a good nite's rest over there in Switzerland! :-)

KathyBlue on 08/08/2010:
I know you're moving back to the US... and maybe one day I go there, I'd love to see NYC, for example. I think it's easier to enter in the country now, as a tourist. :) Even then, the scariest for me is the looooong plane ride - I really dislike sitting during hooours and hours... blagh... someone should invent on-plane exercises.. imagine a hospedeiro do bordo who has the knowledge to move the crowd a bit. I don't mean jumping, lol... but some Callanetics or something light... :P

Maria7 on 08/08/2010:

more photos from Lucern.... aren't the colors just fabulous?

So I did very well all day long eating this one item thing - too busy to prepare food during the day.  But at night I didn't do so well anymore -  Rice (wild, white, yellow, you name it) is a trigger food that I should avoid, and I know it!   I must get serious again if I want to see results....

Happy weekend you all!

Breakfast: 2 poached eggs, 1 ww cracker, coffee

snack: sardines (canned) on crackers

lunch: Chili beans, green tossed salad

snack: laughing cow cheese, carrot sticks

dinner: eggplant/shrimp/onions Thai green curry, cheese bread (pao de queijo, yum), 2 ww yogurt

I'm done with the eating today, good night!

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 38 lbs to go!

2luvself on 08/07/2010:
Damn them trigger foods. I had a mild breakdown yesterday night because of one. Almost gave up this morning. Glad that you are seeing your mistakes and acknowledging them. I think by identifying the elephant in the room we then can then proceed to kick the big fat beast out of the room.

moogy on 08/07/2010:
It sounds as if you don't want to be quite a bit heavier by the time you get settled you may need to come up with a plan. You are going to be living in situations that are not under your control, when you have choices go for the ones that are best for you -- then when you have no choice it won't impact so much. I always found that when i was living out of suitcases I forgot all restrait and used it as an excuse to eat anything I wanted - I always paid the price and wished I had stayed in control. I am just trying to pass on what I have learned - just ignore me if it is not useful to you. Have a wonderful weekend.

cleaneating on 08/07/2010:
Those fresh beans look delicious, they look like borlotti beans? If they are they tend to lose the colour when cooked,or maybe thats just my cooking :)

WI3 on 08/07/2010:
I have to say that this is the first time that i've heard rice mentioned as a trigger food! Just goes to show that in the life of healthy living, we are all the same but different lol. I have an ever growing list of foods that I cannot have in the house at all or I eat them like crazy. *sigh* well, guess it keeps us humble LOL. your pictures are always so interesting, first time I've seen food turned into photos I'd be happy to put on my kitchen wall!

KathyBlue on 08/07/2010:
awww that bread... !!! I am in love with BROA these days... hope i can grab some today afternoon, broa do lavrador, very good and 50% kcal value that of normal bread

sweetpea1977 on 08/07/2010:
man, those pictures are delicious, epecially the bread and cheese!

I love rice too and tend to overeat it whenever I make it. To be honest, I could easily eat it as a whole meal and I actually used to do that in college since white rice was an easy and inexpensive meal to make.

Foods sound good for today, especially breakfast, lunch, and dinner. :)

geevee on 08/07/2010:
Ohhhh. That bread and cheese! You're going to miss that wonderful market.

biscottibody59 on 08/07/2010:
Seems you mentioned in someone's comments awhile ago you would be traveling to your destination here in the States on the Queen Mary 2--what a trip! I guess it's just around the corner:-)

Thanks for the pics you've included in your entries lately--especially your art!

Oh, congrats on the pound down, though I certainly wouldn't blame you for wringing out the last tastes of all the food there! (And then getting down to business once you get settled in your new place!)

Maria7 on 08/07/2010:

Weight: 173.0

We went to a farmers' market in Lucern, the colors of the food looked fabulous...

I didn't do too well yesterday evening - just ate too much of this fresh bread that I bought for my family at the bakery down the street...  usually I am good at avoiding eating what I buy for my family, but yesterday I just couldn't help it.    Oh well...

Today's plan is to go back on track:

Breakfast: coffee, tuna fish and pickles on ww cracker (ha! I'm trying to use up the stuff I have in the pantry!)

lunch: chili beans, 2 ww cracker with tuna fish and pickles on top

snack: turkey wraps  another ww cracker with tuna fish mixture on top

dinner: prawns and veggies thai curry with basmati rice, organic wild rice  tossed green salad  red wine

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 23 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/06/2010:
How lovely do they look? Good enough to paint!! I suspect that the next few weeks are going to be a bit tricky diet wise. Just do your best, but enjoy this special time.

Umpqua on 08/06/2010:
That produce is amazing looking! And I understand the challenge of buying foods for the family that you don't really want to eat. Hope you have an excellent day and weekend of travel!

oh my! look at those tomatoes...i am very envious. take care of yourself and have compassion for yourself if you can:) xo

Maria7 on 08/06/2010:

hollybelle on 08/06/2010:
Lovely paintings. Thanks for posting. I've always wanted to paint or try something artistic. The closest I come is making jewelry and sewing! Have a great trip and we'll see posts from you when you get PC hooked up in September!

geevee on 08/06/2010:
What beautiful fruit! Good bread is impossible for me to resist. Nothing is better!

Maria7 on 08/06/2010:
Currants? Don't think I've ever tried eating them. Are they sweet?

sweetpea1977 on 08/06/2010:
Gorgeous photos! My mouth is watering!

Oh and there is nothing like fresh bread that gets my mouth watering. I could easily eat a whole loaf with slabs of butter if I was home alone. :)

Menu looks great!!!

sweetpea1977 on 08/06/2010:
Oh wow, 20 pounds lighter afterwards? Man, if that happens to me, I'll be at my goal weight! Woohoo! :) Thanks for the well wishes!

2luvself on 08/06/2010:

So I just weighed myself and I am 1 pound lighter, yay!

************************************************************

Another photo of (rainy) Lucern...

So I did have a fantastic day, yesterday, yay!  I haven't weighed myself in ages, but will be doing it soon and I hope to see improvemnt!

So the movers are coming on monday and they will take this computer away, so I won't be able to post my diary here any longer for at least a month :(  I'll put the computer in the air shipment (as opposed to sea shipment) but I only arrive in the US on the 3rd of September and will get installed in the house only a week later.  We'll live out of a suitcase for nearly a month - we'll be going to Paris, London and NYC - I've been to those places before (except for London,) but never like this, in a roll, back-to-back. Cool!

Have a great day, everyone!

Breakfast: coffee, tea, eggs, 1/2 english muffin

snack: turkey wraps (turkey, shredded carrot and cucumber)

lunch: chicken noodle soup, cucumber salad, basmati rice

dinner: prawns and stir fried veggies (shiitake mushrooms, green beans, leeks, carrots), basmati rice, red wine. Made fried rice with eggs with the rice and ate cucumber sandwiches for dinner.

I have red wine in the pantry and must drink it, otherwise I have to give them away.  Can't move them to the US.  :(

Progress as of today: 9 lbs lost so far, only 23 lbs to go!

moogy on 08/05/2010:
It is going to be a busy weekend for you. I am sure you will be exhausted by the time it is over. If you can't get back to us before the computer is packed away. I hope you have a good move and enjoy visiting lovely places. Keep safe and I will look forward to hearing about your adventures when you have settled in and unpacked (yikes!! how well I remember). Good luck.

Bikiniwax85 on 08/05/2010:
Wow!!! your moving??? But, Switzerland is so beautiful!! Btw, I wish you luck darling.. Take care! and I love the oil painting!!! Awesome!

sweetpea1977 on 08/05/2010:
Beautiful photo!!

I cant believe we wont hear from you for a whole month!! I am super-sad!! Do you know if you'll be able to have access to public computers for quick updates? We just want to know that you're ok. If not, for your own personal sake, I'd recommend you take a paper journal with you and track your foods, weight (if you have access to a scale), and thoughts while you are without your computer. That way, you'll have some way to stay accountable to yourself and not lose any progress on this weightloss journey.

Also, I hope you have a huge memory card (or two) for your camera so you can take lots of photos during your whirlwind trip back to the USA. Ideally, I'd love to see all the photos you'll be taking, but I'll settle for a good few from each beautiful city! :-)

We sure will be missing you while you are away from DD...maybe you could get online at a library somewhere? Or wherever you be staying? That's a long time for Selena to not be here. :-(

You will be missed while you travel like a Rockstar! I look forward to pictures and I am sure you will have plenty of stories!

lol, love your dreams!! I still dream that I am in school. Ive been out of highschool for 14 years and out of college for 10 years. If its a high school dream, basically I am running late and the bus keeps going around the block waiting for me to come out. If its a college dream, its near the tail end of a semester when I realized I've forgotten to attend a class (usually a math class!) all semester. Or, Im walking around on campus trying to find a classroom and get really lost...like on the other side of town!

Anyway, I will keep my fingers crossed that you'll be lucky enough to find internet access while your computer is packed up. Dont worry about big entries....just a quick hello letting us know you made it safe and that you're having lots of fun. :) I wouldnt worry too much about trying to lose weight on the cruise ship either. I know how wonderfully luxurious those oceanliner restaurants can be so dont deprive yourself of something that you'll probably wont get to enjoy once you get on land. :)

(calorie counting, walking, biking, chilling)
Weight: 174.0

So, to meet KathyBlue's curiosity, I decided to post photos of my small oil paintings (6" x 6", still-lives) and the frames that I made for them last weekend.  In case you are curious, I haven't signed these paintings because they are reproductions of other artist's paintings that I made to practice oil painting.   I am a watercolor artist and I do oils just for fun, not to sell.  Not just yet.  I hope you like my practice paintings....  and thanks for asking, KathyBlue!  PS. I'm planning to hang these in my new kitchen when we move...

egg, pears

orange slices

a bowl of oranges

yellow bell pepper, my favorite:

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 24 lbs to go!

Fabulous paintings! Thanks for sharing. Ironic isn't it, that paintings of food are posted on DD? Then again, at least paintings are all of healthy foods. You are very talented! I'm envious - always wanted to be artistic but it just ain't in me. You obviously got it!

I loooooove them! My personal favorite is the egg, it is really hard to paint that and you captured it so well!!! BTW I wanted to be a painter myself. I had some "jeito" with cartoons and portraits, but then my mother didn't let me go to the art school because it was in a very bad neighborhood. She was saying "There they find a dead body in the garbage on a weekly basis!!!". I've never heard about such thing in my life and my best friend went there, 4 years, nothing happened to her... But I confess I owe my mother one because now I have less difficulties in life, being a computer programmer... I don't really have problems in finding work, like artists have... my best friend, for example. But I wish I would have some time to do paintings now... but I don't. I need the time to get my body in shape, I'm a tennis-aholic and I'd need time to "upgrade myself" in my field (which is Business Intelligence in case you're curious, hehe) to get a better job because it's not difficult...(I mean to get a better one, lol).

btw I also posted a photo, lol

I am an artist as well. My favourite was the egg, so hard to get the translucence of the egg white. I also like the light on the pears. They will look great in your kitchen. I have my own work hanging around me as well. My favourite work is pen and ink architectural drawings. I enjoyed looking at your work.
