So, I'm so IMPRESSED that you guys know this band, Motorhead. As I said, I had never heard of them but that doesn't mean anything....
So I decided to throw in this other photo that I took last evening - this band played a little earlier than Motorhead, when we still had daylight... Their band is called Iggy and the Stooges, or something like that. Iggy Pop, the band leader is an old and sweaty guy who sang like a maniac, banging his microphone on the floor at times ;) When you look at him one can say - let's NOT do drugs, hehe So, who has ever heard of them?
So here is Iggy again working his crowd...
So the festival was AWESOME last night!
There were so many different venues/tents where bands were singing/playing simultaneously - the photo above is the main stage where a British rock band that I had never heard before, which btw doesn't mean anything (Motorhead, that's the name of the band) was playing. They had 18 different bands playing yesterday from 4.30 pm to 1 am. You just choose one that appeals to you the most and watch... It's overwhelming, it's wild and it's fun! The choice of foods were amazing for many local restaurants had their tents set up - even the finer ones! I didn't have foie gras for dinner, though... I had sushi, instead. And some beer, of course.
breakfast: coffee, tea, scrambled eggs
snack: pistachios
lunch: vegetable caponata, hummus with celery sticks, green salad
snack: turkey rollups
dinner: grilled salmon, grilled vegetables, green salad
Progress as of today - 6 lbs lost so far, only 26 lbs to go!
So I had a terrific day, yesterday, dietwise! Didn't slip a bit and even went for a mile walk after dinner with our visiting friends. It was getting dark - around 9.30 pm - but the breeze was nice and cool on the skin :) Aside from that, I have been trying to be a good driver, a chef and hostess, for the visitors.
This evening I'm taking my daughter and her friends to the Pale o Fe s tival very near here, 10 minutes away by car, in Nyon. The festival is like the Woo dstock of S witzerland and very popular amongst the youth, with lots of singers and bands playing in different stages at the same time. There are miles and miles of tents set up along a vast farm land - people come from all over the world for the week, set up the tents and just have a good time! I wanted to go and the girls did not oppose, so I'm coming along! The only drawback was that I had to pay for the tickets that cost me a bundle - almost $120! eek! If you are interested you can always google it - it's really cool!
Breakfast: Vegetable quiche, green tea, english tea, ww cracker
snack: turkey rollups
lunch: bean soup, tabouleh salad , (leftover from yesterday, yay) , vegetable caponata

sushi, beer and some meat dish

Good night everyone!

I am sooo happy to see you posting on here. I have missed you!! Congratulations on all your success thus far. BTW, when is your big move to the US?
Spending time with my friend from Holand has been good - I realize how lucky we all are to have friends in our lives.... this is she with her son ;) Our neighorbor farmer harvested the wheat field just in front of our house and were bailing (sp?) up the wheat, yesterday. Good opportunity for us, city folks, to see how things are done in a farm... and have a little fun! Misty Jura Mountains in the background.
I lost 2 pounds, yay, I must be doing something right! I realize I am losing pounds really fast but I know that it happens that way in the beginning... not to worry because soon enough things will slow down, and then I'll worry even more, haha! I'll just enjoy the moment!
Have a great Sunday, everyone.

Thanks for including another nice photo in your journal to share with us here at DD.
I saw this doggie at the store yesterday, patiently waiting for his master - SO CUTE! If I were to get a dog, ever, which is pretty unlikely since I have 3 cats, then I would probably get a golden retriever ;)
So I had a good day, yesterday, yay! I made Thai dinner for my guests and I totally avoided the white Thai rice, which I adore - I know that if I had one serving I would end up having 3, at least. So I stayed away from it entirely. White rice is one of those trigger foods that I should avoid, and I know it! I had wine to toast my friend but I didn't go overboard - 1 & 1/2 glass. They are visiting from Amsterdam and will stay with us for one week - we'll see how this visit is going to affect my eating... I hope not negatively! The good thing is that she is very health conscious and very slim, so we are eating light and healthy...
Breakfast: scrambled eggs, coffee, tea, small ww toast
snack: hummus, celery sticks
lunch: tossed green salad, split pea soup (must finish the soup!), hard cheese
snack: pistachios
dinner: tossed green sald, smoked salmon slices with capers tabouleth salad, salmon with fresh tomato sauce, green beans steamed. one bite of vanila ice cream, red wine
Had a great day eating wise. Good night all!
Progress as of today - 4 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!
Hope you have a good visit with your friend. Sounds like you two can get some good walks in, too!
Edelweiss, Eidelweiss , every morning you greeeeeet me....small and white, clean and bright. you look happy to meeeeeet me.......
So, the plant was raised in a greenhouse, therefore it has long stems. Normally, when found in nature (high mountains), they are short and sturdy, not leggy and flimsy like my plant. Regarding flowers, this is it, they don't seem to bloom any further... they have this soft, furry, whitish green petals and the leaves look like of rosemary's plant.
So, yesterday was a great success! I was going to eat late at night but my daughter gently talked me out of it. I'm so grateful to her :)
But seriously, I'm thinking of buying a stand up computer desk so that every time I go online I must be standing up (or sit on a high bar chair when I get very tired). I think this will solve my problem of being on-line too long and will help me with my weight control...
Breakfast: Vegetable quiche, small cracker, tea
snack: turkey rollups
lunch: tossed green salad and split pea soup
snack: pistachio
dinner: thai curry with shrimp/veggies, tossed green salad, fruit salad (not allowed by diet but I'm flexible)
Didn't have the fruit salad after all. Had white wine instead.... I'm done for the day! Good night everyone!
Progress as of today - 4 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!
Glad yesterday was such a success~am happy the daughter was there to "talk you down" last night from making any choices you would later regret!!
Wishing you a wonderful day!!
Yes, I looked it up about standing versus sitting and here is some of what it says:
Sitting vs. Standing •Quiet sitting burns fewer calories than standing still. If you sit for 30 minutes, you will burn 33 to 63 calories (for 110-lb. up to 216-lb. individuals). But standing for 30 minutes means burning 39 to 78 calories. So standing yields around 12 to 30 more calories per hour. For a full day of work (8 hours), standing might mean 96-240 more kcals used.

I bought a potted edelweiss the other day - had never seen them before except at the botanical gardens! I keep it on my patio table and it looks lovely there - it makes me want to sing everytime I look at it!
So, I weighed myself the first thing again this morning and I am still at 178, which is GREAT because it means that I am really losing the weight! Did not exercise because it was too hot and I was sweating while painting. I have decided to make an effort to paint while standing up because I read somewhere that one can lose weight just by standing around.
Husband is eating dinner out at different functions a lot recently, so it's easier for me to keep up with my eating routine. He did tell me, though, he wants to join me in the diet starting next week :) once the work functions slow down. Daughter is also happy that I decided to lose weight - she is very supportive and has a very positive attitude towards healthy eating and exercise and is the only one in the family who is actually fit, ha! It helps to be 13 y.o.!
Have a great day, everyone!
Breakfast: coffee, tea, vegetable quiche
Snack: pistachios
Lunch: tossed green salad, steamed fish and veggies from last night
snack: celery sticks with fresh mozzarela cheese
dinner: porc medallion, tossed green salad and steamed green beans leftover fish (it's finally gone), tomato/shreded carrot salad
No exercise but I cleaned the whole house in preparation for friends/guests arriving tomorrow from Holand :) even scrubed/washed the patio with soapy water.
Progress as of today - 4 lbs lost so far, only 28 lbs to go!
Yes, standing burns more calories, a whole lot more than sitting.
Looks like you got in even more exercise with all that cleaning!
When are y'all moving back here to the States??? :-)
Love the picture~so pretty!! Does it bloom with flowers or stay a pretty little green plant??
Good going holding steady!
A view from my patio: I took this photo a few weeks ago... it's looking pretty green around here, although it's been so hot recently. Stay cool, everyone!
So I gave away my old Nordic Track to the Salvation Army, ha! I hope someone can use it...
I lost some weight overnight, yay! So I had to come running here to announce, ha! I'm definetly on the right track and happy about that. However, I don't know if it's the heat, hunger or whatnot, I've been feeling grumpy, which is not me :( Like yesterday, I had to apologize to my daughter and hubby for being a bit too "intense." They say they undrstand and still love me :) so all is well, but I have to watch myself.
Have a great day, you guys!
Breakfast: vegetable quiche, coffee, tea, veggie juice
snack: mozzarela cheese
lunch: split pea soup, tossed green salad
snack: pistachio
dinner: pork chops, steamed veggies, tabouleh salad, steamed fish
Congratulations on your loss~4lbs! Woweeee!!!
And I highly recommend a good pair (silicone) of ear plugs! Oh and if you or your husband do end up having to mow wherever you move to in DC, make sure you get a mulching mower.
Sorry to hear about the NTrack. Moving is always a good opportunity to downsize a bit!
Thanks for the gorgeous photo! What a pretty view. I like your pretty flowers, too! :-)
I took this photo of L a nc e Ar mst ron g last Saturday when I went to see Le Tour de France near my house. I live in Switzerland near the border with France, so when I heard that the Tour was going to pass nearby, in the Jura Mountains, about 30 min drive from our house, we went to cheer for Lance. Anyway, I was SO luck to get this shot of him because he passed SO fast in front of me, like wind!
Just in case you are wondering, Lance did very well on Saturday, when we saw him, but did poorly on Sunday after falling 3 times. :(
So, I'm trying to follow the South Beach Diet just because that's a diet I know, it's healthy and has worked for me in the past. However, nothing is set on stone and although at this stage I should not be eating carbo, I am quite flexible - for instance, yesterday I had a WW craker just because I felt like it. I also did not exercise but ironed my husband's shirts for 1.5 hours, ha!
I did feel very grumpy yesterday, with feeling hungry and all, but I hope today will be better/easier.
I hope you'll have a great day!
Breakfast: poached egg with small ww cracker, tea, coffee

Your menu looks good, too!
Hope you're having a nice day! :-)
Hello all: With the upcoming move an all (moving from Switzerland back to the USA), I've been very stressed out recently and eating more than I should... actually I was feeling out of control. So about a week ago, finally, I decide that I must go back to watching my food and step on the scale again. Of course, I've been avoiding facing the reality of weight control for so long and the results show around my waist, actually, all over my body and on the scale. Ugh!
breakfast: tea, 2 eggs poached
snack: celery with laughing cow cheese
lunch: green salad, grilled chicken and fish kabobs
snack: turkey rollups with cilantro
dinner: roasted veggies (eggplant, peppers, leeks) Lentils (stewed with carrots) tossed green salad
Exercise: wii dance
Progress as of today - -2 lbs lost so far, only 32 lbs to go!
You're a disciplined woman and if you ease back into it and treat yourself well, you'll do just fine again!
Glad to see you back!
As for the weight thing, DD helps us be accountable to ourselves with the loving support of others who understand and are going through their own battles with getting to their goalweights (and STAYING THERE). I know you got down pretty low before...was it the 150's??? And I know you took BEAUTIFUL nature walks and shared happy, cheerful, uplifting photos with us here at DD. I would sit there a looooonnnnggg time staring at the gorgeous photos you took on your walks and I was going through a very, very difficult time with my Mother not being treated right in the first nursing home she was in and it really helped me during that time. Also, here lately, for the first time, I've begun to have a 'yearning' to try painting. I've begun collecting art...I have some of Thomas Kinkade, and 3 of Nicky Boehme. My Mom was always the artist of the family and she won awards on her paintings way back before I came along in her early years. The more I study paintings, the more I think I can do it! I just don't know where/how to start, nor what to purchase for a basic kit to begin painting with...any suggestions???
When are you moving back here to the states? I know it must be challenging, moving, after being in another country for so long. But you have been blessed and enriched with enjoying the experience of Switzerland and from the photos you've taken and shared, I know it is such a beautiful place!
Hope you have a wonderful, happy day! :-) Love, Maria

AHH what a happiness! Festival! So many calories burnt, so much fun! :) 18 bands, now that's an amazing lot of bands. Any famous names? :)
loveray on 07/21/2010:
looks awesome!! glad it was a grand time. yes, things have been rough recently, but thank you for your sweet thoughts - they are more appreciated than you know:)
Maria7 on 07/21/2010:
Kind of reminds me of the festival the town next over has yearly...they usually have 3 or 4 different bands at different locations within walking distance of each other...FUN! Lots of vendors...selling jewelry, food, etc.
Hope you have a blessed day! :-)
sweetpea1977 on 07/21/2010:
I have heard of Motorhead! Thats so awesome. Atlanta used to have an awesome 3 day music festival called Music Midtown. I always had so much fun at them, but they stopped doing them. So sad. Anyway, I am glad you had such a wonderful time!
tangalyn on 07/21/2010:
wow motorhead? awesome! glad u have a good time :)
Umpqua on 07/21/2010:
Motorhead! Is Lemmy still kicking around? Liked them back in high school. I'm glad you had a nice time!!
sweetpea1977 on 07/21/2010:
hahaha, I've heard of Iggy. He is one crazy dude! And yes, one look at him and I know to say No to drugs, lol!
sweetpea1977 on 07/21/2010:
BTW, does the guy behind him (playing guitar) have a full leg brace on?? :)
biscottibody59 on 07/21/2010:
I've seen him in concert--Iggy w/out the Stooges--he opened for The Pretenders--I remember that during the concert Chrissy Hynde was highly in awe if not worship of him.
I just scanned the wikipedia article on him, which is quite comprehensive. He wrote "China Girl" which was a huge hit for Bowie and on which I remember Stevie Ray Vaughan played. Now you know all I know (or possibly care about) Iggy--oh, he had an early band, The Iguanas, hence Iggy. If nothing else, he's a survivor--he's 63 yrs old for crying out loud!
You must be the coolest mom of the moment:-)
sweetpea1977 on 07/21/2010:
I just read biscotti's comment, I didnt know any of that about Iggy! Pretty cool!
As for the guitarist, I bet he had a bad crowd surfing accident. Or perhaps someone told him to "break a leg" and he took it literally. ;-)
hollybelle on 07/21/2010:
Iggy Pop! A name from the past. I remember him for collaboration with David Bowie and others more than with the Stooges. Andy Warhol once said he didn't understand why he had not made it bigger - he was so good - can you say "drugs" and he's "out there"? Looks like too much fun!
selina on 07/21/2010:
I enjoyed reading you guys' comments about Iggy Pop - so interesting! My husband also says that he remembers him from the 70s. My daughter and her friends say he is just a disgustingly sweaty guy, haha!
sweetpea1977 on 07/21/2010:
hahaha, your daughter and friends are funny.
I thought you might get a "kick" out of that break a leg theory. ;-)
Umpqua on 07/21/2010:
I love your description of Iggy Pop haha! He's a bit of a punk legend around here. And this guy has been around for years - how I have no idea! He's like Keith Richards, he just keeps on going :)
V on 07/21/2010:
Lust for Life is one of my faves by Iggy Pop, I met Lemmy in LA about 8 years back and he wanted to "party" with us girls...Not lol
Moody3 on 07/21/2010:
Looks like a wonderful time was had by all~I've heard of Motorhead but not sure if I have heard their music~and of course I know who Iggy Pop is!!! LOL~
Glad you had such a great time, thanks for the pictures!
hollybelle on 07/22/2010:
Yeah - the Iggy Pop comments HAVE been interesting. He is a Punk "legend". I was never too much into punk, but I'm very nostalgic for the 1970s this summer - for some reason! Mostly I think I agree with your daughters - too sweaty for me! Maybe he should be "Icky" Pop instead - no, that's not nice!
