Hello all!

I'm moving and it's been no fun.  Lots of sorting and throwing stuff away and trips to goodwill.  Wanted to donate sofa an love chair to salvation army but they are so picky - they don't want it because they have minor cat scratches.  Will have to store them because I don't know what to do with them. Movers are coming tomorrow morning ... Will post again when we get settled on the other side of the planet earth.  Stay well!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 08/05/2012:
Wow, your move came up so quickly. Safe and happy travels to you and I can't wait to hear about Japan!

biscottibody59 on 08/05/2012:
Thanks for the update--I hope the rest of the move isn't too stressful and everything goes well once you're back in Tokyo! Don't sweat too much:-)

Wow--when I was able to get the "out of town" Salvation Army to bring a truck out awhile ago they took anything (even a refrigerator that worked, but they usually still require a freon tag thingie) and everything. I'd suggest finding a different charity--we have a great local Girls & Boys Club that now takes just about anything and they pick up to boot!

Hugs to you too girlie--pace yourself and I know you'll be back to it once you're settled!

grannyannie on 08/05/2012:
Hope you move goes smoothly! How exciting!

V on 08/05/2012:
I hope the packing and moving is not too stressful safe travels to you my friend <3

liza36 on 08/06/2012:
I can't believe it's finally here...moving! Hope the packing goes smoothly.

Maria7 on 08/08/2012:
Did you say you are moving to Japan? Hope you have a safe move. :-)

thinkpositive on 08/15/2012:
Hope it all goes well for you. Pay someone to take the sofas away ? That's what I did. I know it's no fun to move so far away.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/18/2012:
good luck getting rid of all the items you really don't want! moving can be rough...i am dreading my move in the fall...

Maria7 on 08/19/2012:
Have you done your move yet? Hope you and yours are doing well. :-)

sweetpea1977 on 08/21/2012:
just dropping by to say hi. hope your move is going well!

thinnside40 on 08/21/2012:
We are moving too..Slowly, but surely.... Have to get the place we are moving into sorted out (dad & mom's things) to make room for ours and it is a super slow process, as I'm just not ready to get rid of things just yet...... Best of wishes in your move!

I found an Indian style butter chicken kit at the store and I really like it!  It's not a diet type of food, but it is really tasty and great for serving for dinner for company.  I made some last night and everybody agrees that this is the best of all the indian dishes I've prepared...  http://www.amazon.com/Gourmantra-Butter-Chicken-Meal-14-Ounce/dp/B004H4SIBS

I picked up daughter at the airport and she was looking so tanned and happy: swimming, going to the music festival and seeing many of her old friends seemed to be the highlights of her trip.  So glad she is well, back home safe and sound, and that's all that counts.  She mentioned something very interesting that she noticed being back to Switzerland: her friends eat all kinds of food - they ate japanese, indian, middle eastern (lebanese), all sorts of food.   Of course they like Italian, too, (pizza), but I found it interesting that they are so much more open to new tastes.

Now we have to get really busy getting rid of stuff before the movers come to pack it all up on Monday, Aug 6th.   That's less than 2 weeks away.  Before that, we still have company coming over for the weekend and we still want to go to the beach.  I don't think we can fit in the beach, but the company is scheduled to come.

Painting watercolors again is so much fun.  I had stopped painting watercolors for several months because of my oil painting efforts.  I can see that I've evolved after spending some time away from it.

I'm planning to go to the gym, today.  Enough of struggling nonsense!

Update on my dishwasher:  the service guy came, established that it was a malfunctioning pump, didn't have the replacement part and needed to order it.  Will come back to repair it next week, didn't know when.  I'm so tired of washing dishes by hand! Whatever!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 07/26/2012:
Love Indian food! Glad your daughter enjoyed herself. You've got a lot to do to keep your very busy for a while! Whew.

Kati on 07/26/2012:
ahh, butter chicken with coconut milk, yummy! :)

grannyannie on 07/26/2012:
You are so busy though that it can be hard to fit in gym time. I've got no excuse at all with being retired.

Umpqua on 07/26/2012:
I'm sure that Indian dish was fantastic - yummy! Great news on your daughter being back safe and having such a great trip.

hollybelle on 07/26/2012:
Indian dish sounds great - is it something I could buy here?

sweetpea1977 on 07/26/2012:
aww, sounds like your daughter had a wonderful time with her friends.

Man, its seems like you just got back to the USA and now you're leaving again! Good luck with getting rid of stuff!

V on 07/26/2012:
OMGosh! That looks yummo :P Sorry you didn't get the washer fixed yet..I feel your pain..I wish I had a dishwasher, hand washing is far overrated! Have a good one :)

hollybelle on 07/27/2012:
Thanks for the info on the chicken. If you had that link posted orginally, I sure didn't see it - LOL!

LeakingLife on 07/27/2012:
Glad you're making progress with the dishwasher. Hope you're having a good day!

RYC: I can't throw away perfectly good food either--completely against my upbringing too! I think GeeVee shared this thing with us too.

thinkpositive on 07/30/2012:
You will have a couple of busy weeks with all of your preparations. Exciting! I'll check out the butter chicken. And hope you get your dishwasher fixed, what a pain.

biscottibody59 on 08/04/2012:
Hope the packing job is going well--it'll be good to see an entry from you soon!

ps I'm back to my original diary:-)

I'm having a super hard time getting back to my old eating habits and calorie control.  Yikes!  Today, I'll do my best!

Daughter is coming home today from Switzerland.  It's going to be fun to hear all the stories she will have to tell.  Can't wait!

My brand new dishwasher that I bought a few months ago broke down (the water doesn't get pumped out properly) and I'm having the worst time getting it fixed.  I called samsung and they sceduled me a service person who failed to show up, twice.  He was supposed to fix it last thursday, didn't show up, I called and they said he'd come on saturday - no show.  Today is the third time we have him/her on schedule. If they don't show up today, I'm going to get really mad because I've been washing dishes by had for two weeks, now.

I spent the whole day painting watercolors, yesterday.  I think I'm going a different direction in painting style, it's exciting!

I hope you are all having a great day!

coffee30, two toasts with butter and jam 350  (argh, I already started badly today)

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 07/25/2012:
I understand about getting back to normal eating! It's tough. Hope your daughter enjoyed Switzerland. It's gorgeous!

LOL. I only made the brownies last week as I thought I was visiting friends. They cancelled. So they weren't supposed to be in my house at all. It's just me and hub and he doesn't like that kind of stuff anyway, so it's not in the house...usually.

sweetpea1977 on 07/25/2012:
ugh, Im sorry about the dishwasher. We had that problem happen at our old house. We had two mechanics look at it and they were unable to fix it. I think we ended up fixing it ourselves with some sort of water pressure adjuster.

Enjoy your painting and your daughter's return!

LeakingLife on 07/25/2012:
Does the store you bought it from have a service department? Maybe ask about the warranty service too, but I guess that's something they sometimes take advantage of--you're not having to pay (maybe) so they're more lax.

At any rate, it's a drag--hope you get it fixed. But I guess you have to have someone with enough presence of mind to want to come out. I've been lucky with plumbers and such--really lucky.

Hope you have a good afternoon!

ps I guesss Sting's next schtick will be to go the Rod Stewart route and do a standards (Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, etc) album if he hasn't already. Apparently Rod has turned his back on Rock n Roll altogether. And that's funny. A couple of years ago I was in the car and found a local station that would play standards after about 9 p.m. I've listened and been a fan for my whole life of standards and I can nearly without fail tell who the singer is. So this song came up and I thought oh, nice. A new VERY young (female I thought) singer--I wanted to know who it was. It took a couple of tries and I realized it was Rod Stewart--yikes! Funny how I thought it'd be great if it was a new young singer--Rod Stewart not so much. I love Rod Stewart's rock and roll/blues--he'd go broke if everyone were like me--he and standards just don't mix!

V on 07/25/2012:
Hope you get your dishwasher fixed soon..I am sure you are anxious to see your daughter :) have a good one

thenewMLE on 07/26/2012:
That's sad that a NEW dishwasher would give you trouble and you can't get a competent repair person quickly. That's like being REALLY sick and calling the doctor and they want to give you an appointment 3 weeks from now! I'm sure you are excited for you daughter's return and all the stories and experiences. You will probably cry for college the first month, but then it settles in and becomes the norm. At least you got a feel with her being gone to Switzerland. When my first left, we bought a web cam and I needed to SEE her everyday!!! hahaha -when the second one left, I couldn't even find the web cam!!! RYC, I really believe sugar is like a drug. I was at sugar addiction group before I found y'all! It's really interesting how your body can become dependent on different things. I do feel better being sugar free, but occasionally the craving creeps back REAL strong. I can't wait to see your new paintings. Have a great day!

Thank you all for your insights on caffeine, quite interesting reads!  The headache that I experienced last week was no joke and if it's related to lack of coffee, then I have a bigger problem in my hands than I though I had.  Or maybe not.  I actually thought that I was going to have a stroke or something awlful, but if a shot of coffee solves the problem, then I don't have such a big problem.  I can always rationalize it, haha.   We'll see...  I have to look into it and run a few controlled experiments.  It's going to be interesting to watch.

Yesterday, I worked in the yard for several hours: i got all the weeds out (actually, they were little trees growing all over my garden, the seedlings of the big trees that I have just outside of my fenced backyard, I felt so bad pulling them out.  If they were given the chance, they'd grow into really beautiful trees, gorgeous in the fall), I removed the last of the old leaves on the flower beds and put a nice layer of pine bard chips on top.  The garden looks so nice, perfect for showing to prospective renters.  I should take a photo of it!   The front yard  also looks very nice, having had the same treatment I gave in the backyard!  So, these are the pretty leaves of my backyard trees in the fall:

Eating didn't go very well at all!  I made creme brule and ate it all.  Or almost all of it.  It wasn't very good because the caramel was a little too dark, but I ate it anyway.  Now, I have to make another one for my husband because he knows I made it and will ask about it....   I feel so dumb!

Daughter seems to be having a really good time with her friends in Switzerland.  She and her friends went to see David Guetta perform at the paleo nyon festival and seemed to be enthralled.  They also saw Sting, but I guess he is too old for their generation....

I'll be painting watercolors clouds, today.  At least, that's my plan!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

liza36 on 07/24/2012:
Controlled experiments with caffeine sound like a good thing.

I hope to get to some yard work tomorrow. With the heat and rain lately, it's been neglected for a while. Big sigh...all those little weeds have now become big ones! Love the picture of the leaves. I absolutely love fall, and can't wait to see those colors again.

Enjoy your watercolors today.

grannyannie on 07/24/2012:
Oops with the creme brule. I'm about to edit to add a brownie confession! Enjoy painting today!

LeakingLife on 07/24/2012:
So do you have one of those fancy handheld torches for the creme brule? Sounds like you NEARLY got out of making another brule--darn!

I saw Stink--I mean Stink--I mean STING in concert and it was awful--the guy just can't sing. He really has seen better days--I don't know if he just stopped trying or his voice hasn't stood the test of time or what. Obviously he sells tickets and other stuff.

Good going with the yardwork! As for the caffeine, if you approach near-decaffeinated status, you'll probably notice a change in your sleep. Or not, I think we all have such different metabolic processes for this. Mine is definitely impaired (re: caffeine) compared to what it was when I was 20ish.

V on 07/24/2012:
You are teasing me with the picture..I love fall and all the beautiful colors that come with it :) Good to hear your daughter is having a blast! Oh RYC after the experience I described on your entry yesterday, it was easy to give up the caffeine, i seriously thought my heart was going to explode, at least that is how i felt..LOL Have a good evening!

sweetpea1977 on 07/24/2012:
Oh my, creme brule. MMM!

Good luck with your coffee experimentation. Back in the day, I did 4 shots of espresso every day. When I realized I needed to cut back, I went down to 3 shots for a bit and worked my way down to a single shot per day. Now, I drink regular coffee and reserve espresso (double shot) lattes on the weekends. :)

Glad your daughter is having a good time!

Umpqua on 07/25/2012:
I've never attempted creme brule, I'm sure it was really yummy. Wonderful picture and glad to hear your daughter is having a good time in Switzerland!

Has any of you experienced coffee addiction?  When I had that terrible headache last week,  I had not had coffee for a couple of days.  Normally I drink several cups of strong coffee a day.  Anyway, my husband says that I may be addicted to it and the headache was a warning or something...

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

HereIAmAgain! on 07/23/2012:
Oh yeah, caffiene headaches are the worst. If you are going to stop drinking coffee be sure you wean yourself off of it. Have a great day.

grannyannie on 07/23/2012:
Yes, you have to slowly wean yourself off caffeine. Good for you eating well for the weekend. And glad you feel better.

LeakingLife on 07/23/2012:
Hope you have a good week!

EVERYONE who drinks caffeinated coffee experiences caffeine addiction:-) For some people even skipping one day of caffeine of any kind will bring on a headache. In fact "migraines" that some people may report are not migraines at all but just "sick" headaches because they didn't get their caffeine fix. For me drinking a cup of coffee would eliminate the headache pretty quickly. Caffeine is a drug and it's just like any other drug that causes withdrawal when you eliminate it. It's just socially acceptable, as opposed to cocaine or heroin.

It all became more pronounced for me as I've made it to menopause. Who knew? I can't operate or behave the same way as before. I fully identify as a coffee drinker and it's hard to just shut that off.

I highly recommend a little book by Marina Kushner, "The Truth About Caffeine." It sort of puts it all together. The wikepedia article on caffeine is interesting too.

PS I appreciate your point of view on the massacre in Aurora. I just can't understand why these things don't happen to the tune of about 2 or 3 a week. Sad, but if they did, the gun lobby and NRA (whose board includes gun manufacturers) wouldn't have a prayer. The assault rifle ban was allowed to expire in 2004 and until some action is taken on that (at least), we shouldn't be shocked one bit when these things happen.

liza36 on 07/23/2012:
The caffeine/coffee connection to your headache makes sense. It's tough to kick that kind of habit. I'm not a coffee drinker, but have the same addiction to diet coke.

I loved the cooler temps this weekend too, but it was not fun to be caught in the downpour Friday night, which I was. My grass is thankful for the water though.

sweetpea1977 on 07/23/2012:
yep, I've had caffeine withdrawal headaches. Not fun! Thankfully, I've been able to wean myself off of the extreme amount of caffeine I was on years ago without much of problem. Im glad I can now live on less coffee, since my intense exercise seems to give me a similar "high". :-)

Umpqua on 07/23/2012:
Agree about the caffeine, I rarely go without coffee in the morning although I stick to 2 cups usually versus the drinking coffee, tea and soda all day long I used to do 12 years ago. I'm glad you're feeling better!

V on 07/23/2012:
RYC as you already know, I had a HUGE addiction to coffee/caffeine.. My 2 a day Starbucks trips came to a complete halt after a HIIT workout followed by 2 cups of coffee, i seriously thought my heart was going to explode(it certainly felt like it) I quit cold turkey and my energy drinks were ditched shortly afterwards...

wow, I feel so much better today after so much sleep in the past few days!  I slept all day yesterday, woke up at 5pm when hubby came back home.  Went back to bed at midnight and slept until 10 am this morning.  Such crazy sleep pattern, but I guess I needed it, for some odd reason...  Hubby told me I must go to the doctor today if my headache didn't go away, but the truth is, I feel SO MUCH BETTER TODAY!

I don't have big plans for the day, but I do have to get going with my gardening to prep the house for showing to potential renters - the house will be rented out while we are abroad.  I already bought a 1/2 dozen bags of mulch so that I can fix the backyard nice and neat, around the flower beds.

I'm watching the news about the crazy Colorado movie theater massacre.  How come anybody seems to be able to purchase machine guns in this country?  We need gun control,  I'm sick and tired of watching this sort of needless suffering.  When are we going to learn?  12 dead and nearly 40 hurt is INSANE!  We as a society must learn how to identify potential killers better.

Today's food so far: coffee with 1/2&1/2 60, toast with strawberry jam 130 (190) watermelon 100 (290)

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

liza36 on 07/20/2012:
You must have needed the sleep, as is evidence that you feel so much better. The Colorado thing is SO sad and needless. I agree that as a society we need to do better on so many fronts.

Have a good weekend.

grannyannie on 07/20/2012:
You must have really needed all that sleep. Glad your head is better. I'm with you on gun control. I don't understand the fanatical 'right to bear arms' rubbish!

V on 07/20/2012:
You know this takes the cake on the gun control issue, don't get me started..It is sad when you can't go to see a movie without fear of getting shot :( Your body must have needed the rest so I am happy that you are feeling better, have a wonderful weekend <3

HereIAmAgain! on 07/20/2012:
Hey Selena, so glad you are feeling better! One of my names was Iwillbefit and I think for a really short time was NoExcuses but I really didn't post very much then. I love that I can see the people here that have stayed and are so committed and that really have made tremendous progress and are such great examples. It makes me think it really can be done!

hollybelle on 07/20/2012:
You know, the Co incident is so sad. So senseless. But we cannot make laws that prevent something like this - evil will always find a way. I actually found myself thinking that if someone who had a "conseal and carry" license was in that theatre and had a pistol on them they may have been able to take the guy out. One reason the guy felt he could prey on these helpless folks out to enjoy a night on the town at the movies is he could be fairly certain that none of them would be armed. I don't propose that we all arm outselves, but this was just something I was thinking about.

thinkpositive on 07/22/2012:
I agree with you on gun control, just ridiculous that we can't do something to prevent crazy people from purchasing assault rifles. Hope you are feeling better.

moogy on 07/22/2012:
I always think it is crazy that anyone can just go and buy a gun in the US as well. It doesn't seem something a civil society should be able to do. So glad that we can buy them here, only farmers, cops and bad guys, who can always get guns any country they live in. I mean if we have anyone do anything bad with a gun it's on the news as a shock headline. It a good thing I think:) So glad your headache is gone maybe the sleep was the cure. I hope so anyway:)

My eating was downright out of control, yesterday.  There were so many good leftovers in the fridge an I ended up eating lots of it.  Also, for dinner, I decided to make feijoada (a brazilian black bean dish) which was also delicious and dangerous.  I also drank red wine for dinner, which is not what I've been doing recently.  Anyway, the whole combination of eating and drinking and a sore body from the PT massage (not my usual PT) was not a very good one.  I went to bed with an enourmous headache I thought I was going to get sick.  I didn't throw up or anything, but I had a very bad night sleep.  I dreamed of people chasing me, stealing my purse and my clothes and running away from peope  without my pants on.   Anyway, it was a bad night.  I don't feel like going to the gym today because I still have a headache. I haven't been to the gym for a week, now.  Maybe, I'll just go back to bed to die a little and then come back, or something.

I think my problem was eating too much rice (I'm not used to eating rice anymore) and tapioca dessert.  I made way too much for the guests and I should freeze the leftovers.  They are like poison to me!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

With the overeating and headache it does sound as if something was wrong with you yesterday selina:) Maybe a bug is arriving or hanging around and leaving:) Sometimes we can see what caused a little loss of control a couple of days later. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you:)

It was LOVELY seeing my friend yesterday evening after over a decade of not seeing each other.   So wonderful!  We couldn't stop chatting for hours!  I'm so happy and feel so honored that old friends come to visit us from far away.  She brought her 15 year old son, she hasn't changed at all , her son is so tall and handsome.  Too bad the timing was off and my daughter is traveling.  My daughter and her son had play dates together when they were toddlers.  So cute.

I was so ticked off for misplacing my car keys along with all the other keys that I use on a regular basis.  They were missing for two days but I found them this morning in my old purse.  I can't imagine how it got there.  Go figure!

I'm saddened to hear that a good friend died of pancreatic cancer last weekend.  She had been diagnosed with cancer 4 months ago and was gone in such a short time.  So shocking!

Today I'm going to my PT and GYM for a change in pace.  Live life!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 07/18/2012:

supercheese on 07/19/2012:
ALSO! Zach and I are thinking of going to a fancy restaurant this weekend (price range 30 per entree is fine, suit and dress with heels kind of place). Any suggestions?

LeakingLife on 07/19/2012:
Sorry to hear about your friend--my condolences to you. Hope you have a good day today!

I used to always lose my keys, but about 20 years ago I started putting a hanger on the door where I come in and religiously hang them up. The scotch brand command hangers are great now for this. I carry a purse, but they keys don't always end up there. Hope you figure something out. Very frustrating.

I've been away for a couple of days from DD and I'm already in trouble, jk!

Daughter left on Sunday evening and I couldn't sleep that night - I had to go online to united airlines flight status page and track her flight every hour until she landed safely in Switzerland.  What a momma bear I am!  I'm usually more chill about these things, after all, this is not the first time she goes on her own for longer than a week.  The difference this time was that there was a solo airplane flight.  Anyway, she is well and having fun with her friends.  So, now I can breath again, haha!

Eating has been pretty bad lately, with house guests and lots of cooking and eating together.   I do love having house guests!  Today, my friend from Brazil is coming to visit me - she is staying in a hotel in town, but she is coming over for dinner, so I'll be cooking (again) some healthy thai food.  I have to get some extra ingredients and some flowers at the store before it gets too late.

I hope you are all having a great day/week/month!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

Life does interfere with our healthy habits sometimes - I just keep trying to balance it with my bicycling and other exercise. So far it's about an even draw - so that's good. I hope to hit a patch of time when the exercise can win a little and I can lose a few more pounds.

Momma bear here as well! Glad your daughter is having a good time. Yes, it's hard to behave when having guests. All we can do is get back to healthy when they leave.

Yes, it's hard to be a helicopter mom when the child is actually in an airplane!! LOL Having grown children I do however understand what it feels like to have to let go!! You have done a good job with her, she will be fine:) Summer sounds like social butterfly time there:)
