In the summer things can get busy and one doesn't even notice it how fast the day goes by...   yesterday I went to the  PT and had another awesome session - my shoulder is not 100%, but it is in the best condition in a long time.  So, I'll just keep going to the PT until the last week we are here.  Daughter has had such a busy social schedule, and although she did get her driver's permit, I still have to take her places, drop her off, pick her up...  Next week I'm sending her, solo, to Switzerland so she can see her friends again.  She has kept in touch with her friends in the past 2 years over skype, so they still have a lot in common.  She'll spend 10 days there, 5 days at the house of one friend (who visited us, last year) and 5 days at another friend's house.  I know the parents well and I know how protective they are, so I'm not worried about her staying there.  The part I'm worried about is the plane ride on her own... Oh well.  We can't hold our children's  hands forever...  I remember well when I was her age (15) and how independent I was then, so I think she'll be alright.

Eating has been good, exercising has not been so great, it's just lack of time to go to the gym, I guess.  Always running around.  Today I have house guests and must cook dinner for them as well.  I went to whole foods and bought everything but forgot the flowers - must go back....

I hope everyone is having a great day!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

Glad to hear the PT is really working. How exciting for your daughter to see her friends in Switzerland. I grew up living all over the world as you are - my dad worked in the American Embassy. How I wish I had kept in touch with my international friends then and now. Communication and technology make it so much easier these days - she is lucky!

Enjoy your company.

V on 07/12/2012:
How exciting for your daughter to take her first solo trip abroad :) I am sure she is pumped! I am sure you will put out a stellar spread for your dinner guests.Happy to hear that your shoulder has improved :)

Wow, what an exciting time for your daughter. She is so lucky!!

Great day yesterday!   I went to the gym during the day (usually I go in the evenings) and saw a lot of people I didn't know.  I did 1 hr. of cardio and lots of free weights and exercises that I've learned at the clinic for my shoulder.  I see lots of people doing the same exercises - I can only guess that there are tons of people with shoulder issues...

Eating went very well, I sort of grazed all day, and in the evening I had a nice meal of chicken, wilted cabbage and okra.  Over the weekend, we visited an organic farm and bought lots of veggies they grow.  The farmer harvested the okra for us right then and there as we watched!  I stir fried the okra in a teaspoonful of olive oil and served with a little soy sauce - so delicious! The chicken breasts were also very good: I marinated them in a mixture of store bought chunkysalsa and several tablespoons of dijon mustard.  I cooked them in my grill skillet until both sides were  brown.  I reduced the salsa marinate mixture in the same skillet and spooned them on the cooked chicken breasts and served with a dollop of fresh yogurt and a wedge of lime on top of everything. It turned out really good - I'll add this to my list of healthy recipes that I make for dinner guests because the presentation also worked. I find that presentation is an enormous part of a successful recipe.

I have to go to the maserati car dealer today - hubby is selling his quattroporte due to the upcoming move.  I don't like fancy cars so much and I'm planning to take my trusty suv to our next destination.

I hope you are all having a great day!

Nice that you can take your car along. It must be getting close.

liza36 on 07/12/2012:
Your chicken recipe sounds delicious. I'll have to try that. Not a big okra fan however. Maybe I've just never had it prepared the right way. Glad you enjoyed it.

Great going at the gym!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Mine was fantastic, despite the excellent food that I over-indulged with.  Monday is always a good day to drink lots of water and cut back on calories big time.  I sure need it!

Temps today are going to be much better than over the weekend, still too hot for me.  I'll probably stay indoors...

Photos from Tuesday in Washington DC, 4th of july special menu at the restaurant.  The watermelon with cheese was actually good, the lobster roll was yummy and the ice cream sandwich was a bit too much.  Can you tell that the size of those cookies are enormous?

I made clam chowder yesterday - it's so rich and creamy and wonderful.  NOT diet food.  Daughter asked me to make it - she loves clam chowder, so do I.  Today, I must eat a little lighter.  We'll be away all weekend, so I won't be posting here.  It's vacation time.  I hope you are having a great summer!

Ok, I was enjoying looking at your healthy food pics and then, bam, I started to drool uncontrollably! I could eat all 3 of those ice cream cookie sandwiches! In fact ate a giant one on my vacay.

Anyway, have a good weekend. :-)

What V said--I haven't had a lobster roll for a zillion years! I thought it was great that McDs up in Massachusetts used to feature them (I guess for limited times of the year). Those days are probably gone.

Enjoy your weekend--will check ya' later!

Food looks delicious. I love seafood, but I don't think I've ever had a lobster roll...as for the cookies - couldn't be too big, could they? Have nice time away!

We went to washington dc for the 4th of july celebration last night and to watch the fireworks.  We almost missed the fireworks because the dinner service at the restaurant at the washington hotel was so slow, they do want you to relax and enjoy each dinner course....  I got great photos last night, I hope I can share it here later.

I hope you all had a great holiday and are ready for another day of excellent eating and healthy living!

Excellent day, yesterday: healthy foods and excellent gym work, yes!  I 'll give my 30 day notice to the gym, in a couple of days, to discontinue my membership .  It just doesn't feel like we are moving so soon.

The extreme heat continues and so many people still don't have electricity in my area.  Yesterday, I went to the local library and it was packed!  Everybody looked tired and they were there to check emails and get some air conditioning.  I feel lucky to have our power back but feel bad for the ones who don't, like a friend in Bethesda - the whole building is in the dark since Friday.  They say they won't get their electricity back for a week - what a misery.

Stay well, everyone!

Umpqua on 07/03/2012:
Wow, your move did come up fast, you must be excited! I can't complain about our upper 80s/90s temps here - it's hot but not unbearable.

Umpqua on 07/03/2012:
We're going to the southern NJ shore for vacation - very family oriented place with beach, boardwalk with rides, waterslides....We went there last year and the boys loved it. I'd prefer to go someplace more culturally diverse but that will have to wait until they're a little older and can appreciate it ;)

Em17 on 07/03/2012:
I have a bad storm in my area right now been going at it for about 4 hours.

grannyannie on 07/03/2012:
Glad you have power but do feel badly for those that don't and are sweltering in the heat. Good job on the food and workouts yesterday!

Thanks for comments! It does always come off quickly after I've been on a trip (thankfully!).

liza36 on 07/03/2012:
I can't believe so many people are still without power, and especially in this heat. Great going yesterday on your excellent day. Hope today is equally as excellent.

V on 07/03/2012:
I feel horrible for your friend :( It is far too hot right now to go without for another week! Oh BTW as a fellow stomach sleeper, if you see a copy of Muscle and Fitness Hers,July/August issue you should def read the article..It is titled "Get Stronger while you sleep" Maybe they have that issue at your gym.. Anyhoo have a good evening <3

We had a very bad weekend in the area: a storm that came out of no where on Friday night with amazing high winds and destruction. Many trees were down in our area and most places still don't have electricity. Half of the population in the washington dc area lost power. We stayed without electricity for 40 hours and are one of the luckier ones because many still don't have power. Lots of food in the fridge went bad, but that's just one little minor inconvenience. Temps over the weekend went over 100F, with record breaking readings. here's a link about the storm in my area: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/48039856/ns/weather/#.T_GNB5HZXTo We are not used to this kind of thing! What a calamity!

Daughter and I were on the way back from the kennedy center when the storm hit. We were lucky enough to be able to take refuge in the subway station when the winds started hitting hard. Getting back home was no easy task: the subway stopped and there was stopped traffic everywhere, so it was nearly 1 am when we finally got home. Finding candles and flashlights in the dark was not so much fun, either. Sleeping without air conditioning is no easy task - I took a cold shower and slept with my hair wet, in the basement both nights.

I hope you all had a safe weekend.

By the way, the dance camp for daughter went very well and the performance at the end of the weeklong camp on Friday was beautiful, the teachers and the children did a great job!  The group was small (15 dancers,) the kids got to know each other fairly well and there were tears in many children's eyes when they were saying their farewells.  The first lady (and the first grandma) came to see the first daughter perform and stayed for the reception, so I got to meet them, all.  They were kind and gracious and it was an honour for me to meet them!

Today's food so far: coffee30, egg100, stewed veggies200, almonds 150, banana100, blueberries150, corn on the cob 100, gyoza dumplings 400, green salad 150 cheese stick 100, yogurt 100

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 8.5 lbs to go!

V on 07/02/2012:
Wow what a mess :( I am so thankful that you and your daughter arrived home safe <3 That is so awesome that you met the First Family :) I hope your daughter continues with her dance classes when you move! So happy that your power was restored..Have a good day!

liza36 on 07/02/2012:
That was some storm! I was still out of town on the cruise, but came back yesterday to downed trees, etc. My parents who live in Vienna had a tree fall on their neighbor's house, destroying an art studio in their back yard, and then falling on the roof of the main house. What a tragic disaster. They are dealing with clean up today. I'm glad you made it home alright. That would be scary to be in the middle of the storm

What a great honor to meet the first lady, grandma and daughter. And I'm sure your daughter loved her camp.

Stay cool - that will not be easy this week!

supercheese on 07/02/2012:
yeah its sounded like everyone had a bad weekend! i was fortunate to get away!! Hope everything with your property is okay though!

supercheese on 07/02/2012:

Umpqua on 07/02/2012:
Ugh, glad you and your daughter are safe. We missed the storm here, although we had thunderstorms off and on yesterday. I guess we were very lucky up here!

hollybelle on 07/02/2012:
Glad power is restored. What a blessing electricity is - and we take it for granted most of the time. Meeting the lst lady, etc. - wow - that's special.

grannyannie on 07/02/2012:
Awesome that you met the first lady and first daughter! Glad the dance camp went well but sorry about the storms. Glad you and daughter are safe.

Thanks for comments. We did have a good time.

Excellent day, yesterday!  Gym and eating went very well.  I even had 150cals worth of yummy dark chocolate at night.  Doctor's visit also went well - I got a prescription for another round of physiotheraphy and was told that if I keep this up, I'll be pain free and have full range of motion in the future, maybe within one year.  I would have never believed that 2 months ago, but now that my shoulder feels better, I can see light in the tunnel.  I can't see this doctor anymore because of the move, so I feel a bit sad... that's alright, I should be able to find another one where I'm moving...

Today, the heat and humidity in this part of the country is suffocating.   Must drink lots of water!  I'll go to the musical performance for daughter who is coming back home from camp this afternoon.  They have been practicing a performance for the whole week which they will perform for the parents on their last day.  Tonight I'll take daughter to see "Phoenix" at the kennedy center.  I've read good reviews of the show in the paper, so I'm looking forward to it!

Today's food so far: 2 eggs poached 200, coffee 30,

Very good day, yesterday.  Gym work was cut short in the evening but it was ok because I had spend one hour at the PT's in the afternoon.  Foods were healthy and small portioned - I snacked on healthy foods all evening.  Today I have doctor's appt about my shoulder - I hope he gives me another prescription for physiotheraphy because I love my PT sessions.

Daughter called to tell us that they had a good time touring the backstages at the kennedy center for the performing arts for the visiting broadway show "phoenix," yesterday evening.   Coincidentlly, I have bought tickets for daughter and me to go see the said show tomorrow night.  I'm glad she got an early start.  She said they were given super special treatment because of the very important member in their group ;)

I saw my weight drop this morning on the scale!  I was up a couple of pounds, so this means that I've lost about 3 lbs this past week.  Yay!

Today's food: coffee 30, egg boiled 100, straberries 150, green and nuts salad150, grilled lean pork200, stir fried greens/shiitake/oyster mushrooms350, banana100, peanuts100, 2 pieces dark chocolate100
