Hi-

Last post until next week when I get home & back online.

Decided to get some blood  work done this morning since I haven't felt any better after the B vitamin shot, so we'll see if the blood work shows anything but won't know for a few days.

So today deciding what to pack to bring home. So far I have one medium sized suitcase & one small suitcase + one small wheeled suitcase to bring onboard- have to figure out how I'm going to manage getting these to the airport- oh well there are always people to help.

I'm looking forward t seeing my brother in Honolulu and then getting home. Of course the person watching the house mentioned that there is no hot water in the house and that there is debris in the pool.... Life here is so simple & I know that there will be alot facing me when I get back but I have to remember that I can do  a few things each day.

Will be posting from the US next week!.

Funny story about the after-procedure shopping. I don't remember anything until I got home, they basically kick us out within the hour after the procedure, so I imagine if I bought anything I would not even know where to return it, ha!

I tried and tried to talk to my regular doc about HRT - it all fell on deaf ears-they clearly weren't that interested. To appease me they prescribed creams and such - estrogen only by the way - and none of it did any good. After a friend (male) tried this doctor's office that I have been going to (I see a Physician's Assistant, female who is around 50 year old and takes the HRT HERSELF)I decided to give it a shot. So far it has been very good. I can tell that the hormone levels rise and fall abit over the 3 month period, but not drastic highs and lows and none of the old symptoms have come back to any extreme extent. The bottom line, I think, is two fold when one is in pursuit of HRT -# 1 - gyns are not taught to treat - except after hysterectomy (which I have not had) and then only with a patch - most everyone gets the same doseage and it isn't balanced with progesterone or testosterone and # 2 all HRT clinics are not created equal/and everyone's body does not respond the same to the HRT. I have heard some scary stories but don't know if it's the doc or the patient, to be fair....my experience has been good. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the responses. I can't say that I feel any results from the B vitamin shot, since I've been fighting sleep all day. maybe this is just a sleep issue. This morning I thought maybe it's a blood sugar issue so I had an apple around 11. I think eating the apple helped take my mind off of the feeling of being tired. Also had some dark chocolate this afternoon. It was good but didn't perk me up.

Anyway don't want to sound like whining... Had a good day. Started with a good walk, jog( mostly walking) & ended up in the hawker market- the local stalls which I find fascinating.Had lime juice instead of sugarcane juice- somewhat better. Many people do not cook & just eat at the hawker market and I can see why with prices as low as 3-4 dollars for a meal that will fill you up- it may not be the best food for you however. I took some pictures of the local scene to put together for my mother when I see her in July. Then sat around the pool & read & followed by a swim. This afternoon went to the busy area of malls- Orchard Rd. to find a tablecloth & a gift to bring back to one of my grandchildren.

Going to do something with sea bass for dinner- maybe just something simple, pan seared & roasted.

Wed & Thursday & then Fiday  I get on a plane at 7 am! So excited....!

Hi-

The five days of eating meals out was not helpful to my hope of making a change in the scale.   It seems that when I eat anything like cake or other starchy dessert plus a couple of glasses of wine I'll see the scale jump up by a couple of lbs.and then have to work to get it back .

Anyway, this week should be mre normal but then I leave early Friday so I'm not going to try to make any big changes just try to keep calories at 1400 and keep up te exercise.

Today I decided to visit the Dr. about my feeling so tired. He gave me a B vitamin shot. Anyone have experience with that  ? I figured that it couldn't hurt and worth a try.

Getting excited about going home for the summer. I'll  have to start thinking about packing but I only bring  home clothes that I don't need here. I will need a few clothes for my stop in HI.

Eating out is so tricky with the added salt and you never really know what they're putting in the food. I'm sure you can't wait to come back home, maybe it will be easier for you to get into a routine when you're back in the States? I hope you have a good one!

Exercise a little every chance you get this week and I'll bet that will make the difference this week! On the tiredness, YES, I hear you! I sought hormone replacement therapy this past March and part of the initial routine was B12 shots. I had two. It did seem to make a difference, but I found them painful - in that I would have to lay on the couch for about 4 hours because of discomfort. The pain went away immediately after that period of time, though. Then as the other hormones I had replaced sort of "kicked in" I found I have more energy most days. I don't know your age, but at my age (57 1/2!) I was very tired until I had the hormone replacement. I also found it very difficult to get any doctor to listen to me. The HRT doctor was different and also concluded that I was a little low on thyroid hormone and now I take a thryoid supplement as well as other supplements and a B12 tablet every day. It has helped. I am so tired some nights that I just don't want to go for a bike ride, a walk or anything at all....BUT....I find that if I just get myself going and DO IT I am rewarded with renewed energy. It's almost like you have to spend energy (or in some cases just simply muster it up!!!) to get energy. It really does feed on itself, apparently. Also I find it helps not to be an "all or nothing" thinker - I tend to think well if I can't workout an hour what's the use at all, or if I can't ride 12 miles I won't ride at all - but if I give up that "stinkin' thinkin'" and just go see what I can do - even if it's a 10 minute walk I get the energy reward I'm looking for. Keep at it, TP - you can do it.

Hi-

Friday here and spent most of the day at the museum helping to interview candidates for the next docent training group. I enjoy talking to to people and tried to make them feel comfortable for the interview.  Then lunch out and now headed out for dinner. Not as easy to find light meals here, but did have salads on the menu today.

Exercise was the walk back from the museum. I should find out the distance but maybe just about1/1/2- 2 miles.

Wed  dinner at a restaurant-did ok, tried to have mostly chicken & vegetables with a little rice, last night was an event with finger food- had 2 satays and a portion of a sandwich with crudite. So tonight is Indian again and I know one of the people eating with us is vegetarian so should not be a problem sharing food.  So doing okay- but did have one glass of wine last night. It's hard to track calories when I've been eating out but think I've stayed about 1400.

Will try to rea some posts after returning from dinner.

Hi-

Still hanging in there with no wine, watching my carbs and exercising everyday.

Today exercise was treadmill for 30 min & varied my pace and incline & elliptical for just about 10 min with another 10 min on weight machine. Then later in the afternoon walked for 30-40 min.

Lunch was out at a restaurant - a heavier meal than I normally have for lunch- a local restaurant- so will try to eat light when I go out tonight.

That's it for now...hope eveyone has a great day.

Hi all,

OK, sticking with it & seeing a bit of progress which is enough to keep me going. I was beginning to think that my scale was actually stuck but it was me after all. :)

So 2 days no wine & trying to keep my eye on the carbs. not strictly counting but limiting the starches. And of course trying to maintain around 1400 calories & exercising. Keeping track on my calorie app.

Today , just a 1 hour walk- to the post office & then to a local wet market where I was the only caucasian in view. I had to rely on another customer to interpret for me when I ordered fish. he told me that the fish was very good & that it is the fish that they give women after they give birth, the old Chinese custom of taking good care of the post natal women.  I did feel a bit awkward in this very local market but I think the vendors appreciate the business. They always say" See you again" My clothes were just soaked through when I returned- a virtual fountain of perspiration! Oh & then at the hawker market  I had a fresh sugarcane drink- so good . I have no idea if this has alot of calories. Probably be a good idea to check it out! I should go back to watermelon juice.

Off to the regular market to buy basil & parsley for my fish recipe.

I could feel myself sweating as I read your entry, I guess there is always a price to pay for good things. How fabulous to have a wet market within walking distance. The sugarcane drink was probably just fresh sugar canes which they press through a wringer to extract the juice and yes, lots of calories, pure sugar. No wonder you enjoyed it:) I admire the way you have thrown yourself into the local lifestyle, you are an inspiration:)

That's a pretty cool account of going native in a foreign land - I like it! As for myself, I always had to send the maid to the wet market as she returned home with twice as many bags of fruits and veggies for the same amount of money. I'm afraid the natives had two sets of prices: one for locals, another for foreigners, which I did not appreciate very much. I love sugar cane juice, too. What a treat!

Good morning,

I looked up the sugar cane juice and , although there were different numbers, it doesn't look that bad- below 100 calories as it is just the juice from the sugar cane & lots of ice. it is pretty cool to watch them press the sugar cane.

A good day yesterday & around 1400 calories but I did have an ear of corn & probably could have had 1/2 an ear to really watch my carbs. Third day without wine and  I didn't even think about it.

Today got in my walk/jog with a couple of sprints thrown in & was tired after the 30 min so didn't do my usual longer walk. I am going out for a swim in a little while so that will be another 20 min of exercise.

I do have some challenges ahead- meals out for the next three nights. I know that one or two will be Indian food & the third is "finger food" so probably small sandwiches. Also lunch out tomorrow but I can have a salad. The Indian food presents a problem. Maybe a chicken dish. We usually share dishes so I'll have to be careful.

So glad that sugar was water down with ice!! Excellent! I am sure that is a typo and you didn't really have 4000 calories!!?? I have read that sticking with a prawn vindaloo (if you can stand the heat) is the best way to go with Indian:) Otherwise a little bit of everything and you may dodge the oil and cream! Fingers crossed:) Great job with the exercise thinkpositive:)

I love Indian food. Can you maybe get Tandoori chicken? Something without the rich sauces (that taste so yummy). I love tikka masala and vindaloo - Gringo Indian food ;) I'm sure your offerings there are much more authentic!

Hi all,

Not sure what is going on with my system. I'm doing pretty much what I had been doing & getting some success and now just at a standstill. But I'm not totally discouraged & trying to figure out what I need to be doing differently.

Still logging my calories on my IPad app & that works for me. Exercise has ben steady. Yesterday walked about an hour, not sure of the distance. Today went to the gym for 45 min. Trying to work my jogging up to 5 minutes. Might not seem like a big deal but something to work for.

So I'm trying to pay attention to my carbs and trying (!) to limit my wine. Didn't have any yesterday & trying to make it at least a few days in a row. I think it's just a habit to have a glass of wine & hard to break the habit.

Went to an interesting performance titled The Best Sex I Ever Had! It was 10 women on stage seated at a long table and a moderator who read off dates and then whoever had something that happened on that date would relate it. It pretty much concentrated on their sex life and marriage and it was very moving to hear some of their stories. The women were all from Singapore so there was definitely the culture of men being more valued than women and a very conservative culture. The audience was all women. The perfomance has been done around the world and always with a local audience. It did get pretty interesting and personal.

Today went to a wonderful museum lecture on Vincent VanGogh. I have to go to a art museum when I get home- there is an art museum here but only highlights modern art.

That performance does sound interesting, I didn't realize that women there were not valued as much as the men there :( I am sure you enjoyed the lecture on VanGogh, I love his works..Oh RYC Body Beast is a new beachbody program that is still under development..It is not my workout program(I wish) Just super stoked to do the program once it is available <3 have a good day!

Girlfriend...I know how hard it is to break the wine habit. I was just dusting all my bottles that I have aging and I felt like popping one open!! But, trying to limit my alcohol to the weekends only.

I also love theater and art. Sounded like an very interesting play and then the talk on Vincent Van Gogh...right up my alley.

Hi-

Yesterday was , well a bit off on the healthy eating. I had a healthy breakfast and then went to an event for the museum volunteers where a waiter presented me with a choice, champagne or orang e juice. Well it was ten o'clock in the morning but I chose the champagne. It was a very elegant champagne brunch. Not that I had that much to eat  but I hadn't planned on consuming many calories at ten in the morning.

I did have over 2 hours of walking yesterday but managed to twist my ankle so taking it easy today.

Today- B- egg and 1/2 eng muff, L- turkey wrap, S- pear, strawberries, 4 small crackers w/ small amount pb.

Off to a movie- the Judi Dench movie about India.

Hi all,

Sorry about not being active here . I haven't been feeling as tired lately so holding off on seeing the Dr.

No real change in my status. Doing well withmy exercise but still not doing as well with eating-working on it...Calories are between 1400 on a good day to 1800 on other days. Trying to keep calories logged on my calorie app.

Had my last concert on Sunday which went well. It's a bit over the top for me- to sing in front of a real audience that has paid to see us perform. I prefer singing in the community for senior citizens and children. i got through it though & enjoy the group. Yesterday I guided a student tour at the museum.That was fun & the students were sweet. Not sure how much they got out of the tour but sometimes it's the first time that they have been to a museum so it's the total museum experience.

My husband is going away to a conference & will be gone for 4 nights so I'lll have to find activites to keep me busy. I should be ok & the positive part is that I have a bit more control over food as I can just cook for myself.

Hope all is well with DD friends.

Hey there. 1400-1800 sounds perfect to me! Give yourself some credit. My husband travels about once a month for about 4 days March thru August and I find I do very well on those days. So maybe you will, too. Not to mention I sometimes get caught up on housework and laundry when he's gone! Yay!

Actually, Holly is right. 1400-1800 calories a day is still very good and you are exercising. I found that when I eat up to 2k of calories and have a good workout, I still lose weight.

I'm envious you can sing!! I'm on Youtube doing karaake. You don't want to hear me!! LOL!!!

Your calorie range is great and you are exercising consistently, so I'm sure you're getting results. You said you don't measure, right? I'll bet you have lost some inches. I've been doing a lot of research into calculating lean body mass and fat percentages since I want to reduce a few problem areas but I'm not at all focusing on the scale. I'm finding out that the scale doesn't matter all that much when it comes to changing body composition. Keep up the good work!
