 Hi-

Pictures of my trip for anyone interested can be viewed here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/69413074@N08/

Still kind of recovering from the trip. I've been busy this week since coming home so haven't gotten caught up with my life.

Will write more later.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

panda22 on 11/03/2011:
Love the pictures! Looks like you had a great time and saw some beautiful places on your trip :) not to mention the cool cultural shots, very interesting. I agree a 2 pound gain isnt bad at all and it will be gone in no time ;) Have a good day!

grannyannie on 11/03/2011:
Loved your photos!! Glad you enjoyed your trip. Looked like a great place to kayak.

sweetpea1977 on 11/03/2011:
Wow, lovely photos! So glad you had a wonderful trip!!

Get your rest this week, I know it's always hard to get back in the swing of things after a trip.

I love the pictures! Looks and sounds like a great trip.

So great to put a beautiful face to your words :) Thank you for sharing the pics with us :) I especially love the view from your boat(junk?) Have a good one my friend :)

Gorgeous photos, I'm glad you had a wonderful trip! And good news that your house was OK. We have a few small branches down and I consider myself very lucky. There are still several areas of northern CT that are out of power!

Hi-

Back from my big trip to Vietnam & Laos. It was a great trip- Hanoi was great- a chaotic city with motorbikes everywhere , beeping horns,it's a art to cross the road; a great time in Halong Bay on a little boat- a junk- with 3 other people- did some kayaking & swimming there; Sapa , a town in Northern Vietnam was pretty with terraced rice filelds but a bit disappointing with the local women constanlty following us wanting us to buy from them- " What your name?", "Where you from", - it got to be a little much.Luang Prabang was a delightful town with many temples and monks, markets and great restaurants. We took a boat ride up the Mekong River to see a cave and stopped at a acouple of towns. Had many nice meals, 2 massages, bought a designer handbag in Hanoi ( where Hillary Clinton has shopped) , bought a gong for our apartment and a painting plus the usual souvenirs.

On the weight management side- didn't count calories but tried to be mindful of what I was eating. the breakfast buffets were the hardest- the French pastries won out I'm afraid. Bottom line though was a 2 lb gain which I will get rid of soon.

I will post pictures but need some instruction. I looked around the site & didn't see where to upload pictures. Maybe someone can help?

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 11/01/2011:
Sounds like a great trip! I'd love to visit. 2 pound gain is not bad at all. Well done! Sorry, can't help with the photos as I can't get mine to upload no matter what code I use.

hackersdiet on 11/01/2011:
oh, that sounds like a great trip! I can't seem to post pics anymore either. I used to be able to when making a post. I would click on the button that looked like a clipboard and then paste the picture, but it doesn't work anymore, so I don't know how to help you. Sorry. But I did love reading about your trip! I'm glad you made it back safely, and I am glad you enjoyed the French Pastries...sometimes the extra calories are worth it. And you will take it off again soon. :)

I uploaded a pic from my computer. Click on the photo icon in your diary, and click on Upload, then add to server. Wait until you see the preview before clicking ok.

There are two tabs on the first window after clicking the icon, you have to click "Upload" and then it lets you browse your desktop for the image. Good Luck!

Thank you so much!!! I really wanted to tell you the news when it happened! With that being said if you are on FB please look me up and do a friend request if you don't mind( all of my info is on my bio page so you can find me).. I am totally in it to help others meet their fitness goals above all. My client that I am currently working with is a new mother of TWINS!! I am so lucky that she lives nearby(most clients are out of state).. Anyhoo I am so thankful that I can also have the chance to workout with her if she needs that extra boost or watch the babies if she needs some workout time :) I am so excited!! I love the one on one personal touch, although I would enjoy instructing in a class setting!! Thank you so much for positive reinforcement :) It means so much

Hi-

Not sure what was going on with me but yesterday was a bad eating day. Breakfast, fine then snack time during my museum training & I over did it with some pastry. Not thinking  & then the day went on like that. OK- up a bit today which is going in the wrong direction for sure.

So in the gym this morning & being careful of eating today & should be back on track.

I leave Friday for a 10 day trip to Vietnam & Laos which I am looking forward to . I should be able to find healthy food where we're going. We're staying at nice hotels with good restaurants so I'm sure they will serve salads & fish. I have to watch breakfast because they have nice buffets for breakfast which can be deadly in the calorie department.

Will try to log in at least once before I leave.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/19/2011:
Getting right back on track is the key! Envy your trip to Viet Nam. Would love to hear about the food there. I go to Michigan on Dec 13th to see my family.

Supercheese on 10/19/2011:
I think its ok to have a few days that aren't so good but as long as they don't go for weeks I think you should be good! Have fun in vietnam and loss!

Supercheese on 10/19/2011:
*laos! LOL

Umpqua on 10/19/2011:
You're definitely keeping things in check so I'm sure you'll do great on your vacation. Enjoy the trip!!

What a great opportunity to travel! Have a great time!

Hackersdiet on 10/21/2011:
Sounds like an amazing trip! When I am on vacations, I allow myself an additional 500 calories per day (gain 1 lbs. in one week). But otherwise I get frustrated and just give up and eat whatever I want and tend to gain even more. So, maybe consider that. Have a great trip!

biscottibody59 on 10/21/2011:
Hope you have/had a good trip!

Hi-

Just a quick log in. It 's been a busy week with my museum training program. I have to write a 4 page paper & give a 5 min. talk on Tues. so that's been keeping me busy . Plus my husband has had a business friend visiting so dinners out & here.

Just returned from a golf outing. Hot & sweaty- that about sums it up. Need a gallon of water to recover. Good to play & I did hit a few decent balls. Also some real duds but oh well....

Holding my own with my weight. Went our for dinnerlast night & had pasta which usually send my weight up but did ok with the scale this morning. Will eat lighter today.

Hope all is well. I'll find a few minutes - in between writing - to respond to posts.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/15/2011:
You're still doing great! Hope you're enjoying the museum training. As for a sample of cheese...not sure I can do that. It's a bit like having just one chip or one bite of chocolate. My hub said I can get out of drinking too much wine by saying I'm designated driver. The house is only a mile away and we can walk, but it'll be cold and probably rainy.

V on 10/15/2011:
Well hello there! You are busy as ever but I hope to catch up with you soon :) Have a good one!!

Hi-

I'm so excited to be able to change my number twice in a week. And I the ony thing I changed was my evening glass of wine. And then today I read an article that said a recent study showed that one glass of wine won't affect weight loss. Guess that must be for someone else.

It is exciting to be at a weight where I haven't been for probably 10 years- maybe more. And to be close to losing twenty pounds is also motivating. Now the pants that I couldn't fit into in June a little loose. :)

Probably going out for dinner tonight which I'll have to watch. it's a really nice Chinese restaurant so maybe the menu is online. And they specialize in fish so I know I can get something healthy.

Didn't get to the gym this morning so will try to get there this afternoon. We're having a monsoon rain right now so I may wait a while to go out.

Progress as of today: 17 lbs lost so far, only 14 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 10/12/2011:
Good for you, I hope you have a great dinner tonight! And yes, we are considered the "icebox of CT" up here ;P

hackersdiet on 10/12/2011:
I try to save my calories (eat less) for breakfast and lunch if I know I am eating out that night. I also try to cut back the next day as well by a couple hundred calories. Have fun!

Hi-

The strangest thing- no wine for a couple of days & down another lb. - except I'm not posting it until I see it for the second day.

The other thing is that my husband noticed that the scale can actually read in both kg & lbs so now turning it to lbs makes for an easier reading. Ah, the little things in life...

Had guests for dinner last night- nothing fancy- had the sweet & sour pork recipe from my cooking class. Also some local ice cream- gula mellaka with red beans and earl grey with figs- both very good. And I enjoyed some as well. The danger there is that the ice cream shop is less than a 5 minute walk away. So far I haven't gone crazy & they do have sorbet which is somewhat lower in calories.

Busy day today- my docent class & then a taxi to my choir rehearsal so just a snack in the morning & a granola bar in the taxi before rehearal. Tonight going to let my husband make a pasta dinner & I'll have a veggie burger.

Went to the gym yesterday & although i call today a non exercise day, in reality I walked about 30 minutes just going from place to place.

Hope your week has gotten off to a splendid start!

Progress as of today: 16 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/11/2011:
Thanks for your comment! :-) My scale is in stones and pounds but I'm used to that now. I'm exactly 10 stone now - 140 lbs. At my peek I was one pound short of 12 stone. Have a great day!

V on 10/11/2011:

Hi all-

Good news to report- down by a pound. It is satisfying to see the scale respond and give me hope that I can succeed. :)

Yesterday ate the usual piece of sunflower toast for breakfast & soup & 12 eng muff. for lunch then dinner was out a a hawker market & had a combination of chicken & beef satay, fish, clams, small portion of noodles& a green sauteed vegetable with a lime juice & a water. Snack was a small sweet & special tea in Little India. So not too bad with calories.

Today( Sunday) sunflower toast for breakfast; portobella salad for lunch; dinner will be a lamb chop with a vegetable. Snacks- fruit to be determind

Exercise has been walking this weekend. I'll get back to the gym tomorrow.

Thank you for the encouragement all DD friends.

Progress as of today: 16 lbs lost so far, only 15 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 10/09/2011:

biscottibody59 on 10/09/2011:
Excellent!

Oh, on the driving--I wouldn't mention it, but the site I use (when I count cals--fitday.com) has a couple of categories on activities for calories burned while driving--I used to count it if I did nothing else for activity in a day. Probably slightly more than what I'd burn just hanging out on the couch, but still:-)

greengirl on 10/09/2011:
Great news on the pound down. Keep up the good work, you are going in the right direction !

V on 10/09/2011:
Well done!! Congrats!! Keep it up the awesome job :) When I lived in Chicago, soccer was all the rage..My buddies from Ireland would drag me kicking and screaming(not really but sounds good on paper)before the crack of dawn to watch the games at an Irish Pub called Fado's..When the cup is on they open their doors at 6 am and it is usually packed as soon as they open..Guinness is served for breakfast :) hahaha have a good one!!

Great work think positive!! Yes, I could get out for a walk. I used to walk every morning in a circuit around the neighbourhood. Since I had my seizures I just haven't had the courage to do it. I walk early in the morning and have no time to react before I fall unconscious. My meds are working but I have this little nagging feeling, what if I collapse on the street a mile from home at 6.30am. Not good!!

 Hi-

Can't seem to get the scale to stay below 80 kg- one day at 79.7 & next day back to 80.3.

I need to be more careful about weighing and measuring  and to keep track of  water. I was hoping to be able to report a loss this week. And there are still a few days left on the week- I have to thinkpositive!

The week is going well. Tuesday is very busy as I go from one activity to the next so have to grab something for lunch & then Tues evening went to an Indian restaurant & as we ate family style I have no idea what I ate & how many calories but let's just say that it didn't help keep me on track. Also Tues . is a non exercise day. So gym Monday, walked about an hour yesterday & off to the gym this morning.

Found 2 brands of vegetarian burgers yesterday so had 2 burgers in a 75 calorie wrap with some lovely French green beans. A nice meal for under 300 calories. Perhaps I should have skipped the 2nd glass of wine....

I know you're thinking- " Now I know why she's not losing weight" and you'd be right! And that my friends is why I'm here on DD confessing to my warped thinking!

So with that I'm off to work my butt off ( I wish!!) on the elliptical!

Progress as of today: 15 lbs lost so far, only 16 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/06/2011:
Eating out is my biggest challenge as well. You've made a lot of progress so you know you can do it! Think positive! :-)

sweetpea1977 on 10/06/2011:
I used to LOVE eating out before this whole health thing was a priority in my life. I didnt care about calories at all. Ignorance was bliss at the time. And now, I am almost afraid of eating out because its hard to not order my favorite dishes and drinks or avoid the lovely smelling bread basket. And lets not forget dessert. Ugh! Anyway, I have found that when we make a plan to go out to eat, I can look up the menu online and figure out what I will order BEFORE I get there. Sometimes, the menu has a "lite" section or calories listed, which is a big help. I just have to be strong and just say no to the bread and desserts.

I hear you on the wine though, its another weakness of mine. I LOVE the taste and smell of wine, especially reds. I have made deals with myself in the past that I can only enjoy alcohol in moderation on the weekends. Not easy, but doable if you think of it as an reward for being a good girl during the week. :)

Keep going, don't give up!

V on 10/06/2011:
So to answer your question, it is suggested to drink at least a gallon per day..For me since i work outdoors hydration is essential, also I sweat alot during my workouts so I have to make sure I don't get dehydrated... Keep at it think positive and have a wonderful day :)

Umpqua on 10/06/2011:
When I lived in New Haven I ate out a lot, there was just too much good food surrounding us and it was too easy to have takeout delivered. I was younger and walked everywhere so that helped with keep my weight down. I also made tradeoffs with light eating during the day if I knew I'd be eating out and/or drinking alcohol for dinner. I'm sure you'll come up with a system there that works for you as well, so you can enjoy some restaurant foods but still see scale movement. Have a good one!

legcramps on 10/06/2011:
I try not to eat out so much anymore, but it's hard sometimes because eating out is also such a social thing. Hope you have a great day today :)

hackersdiet on 10/06/2011:
Hey, you are making great progress! I think being at a plateau isn't bad, this diet stuff is hard! So, back to thinking positive and focusing on your goal. Don't forget, losing weight is a mind game! Fight for it!

Maria7 on 10/06/2011:
Sounds like you are getting your workout on the eliptical. :-) Good for you.

greengirl on 10/08/2011:
It's a new day tomorrow, like you said think positive and regain your focus:-)

biscottibody59 on 10/08/2011:
RYC: I can do without all dairy except for something in my coffee (milk or half and half). I kind of get on a kick with ice cream from time to time. I don't eat yogurt for the most part. I don't keep most things dairy in the house for the most part, so it's not a big deal. But coffee without dairy is a no-go.

When I was shooting in the dark last year for relief for a few things, I stumbled on the book "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Esselstyn and I started another diary here with the nickname "ModerationKills." I ate according to its recommendation, which is similar to The McDougall Plan (which I was familiar with starting in the 90s). It's not easy, probably why I haven't fully taken the plunge.

As for your sleep, I can barely put my finger on what keeps me from getting a great night's sleep. Some food sensitivities (none of which in my ENTIRE life I EVER had until last year) may be playing a part. They're nowhere near the severity they were last year, so I think eventually they will be a non-issue for me.

I hope you figure your sleep issues out. Don't forget that alcohol can mess with sleep (especially staying asleep) BIG TIME:-)

Hi-

Sorry to not be  posting. Just busy with life.

Still maintaining the posted weight & hoping to see some change this week. Have gone over my 1400 calories a few days and yesterday found myself with a cappuccino gelato in my hand . But it was good and worth the calories and it followed a salad for lunch ... as I rationalize my decision..

Exercise has been 2-3 days in the gym and the rest of the days walking 45 min- an hour with some swimming thrown in.

Hope everyone is well. Will try to get some postings to see for myself!

Progress as of today: 15 lbs lost so far, only 16 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 10/03/2011:
Doing well on your workouts. I'm feeling deprived of my cappuccinos! We've got a machine but the way I like them it's 80 calories. Have a great day!

V on 10/03/2011:
Well hello there! You have been missed but I understand how busy you must be. You are doing really well with the exercise so Bravo to you :) opening a place of my own was more than just a notion a few years back, it is a long story that I would love to share with you..I promise to tell you all about it. I hope you have a wonderful evening :)

Hi-

Whew... just came from the gym. Giving that HIIT a try. I now can exercise for 30+ minutes on the elliptical.Did about 3 1/2  ( miles I think??) Used to be that by 15 minutes I was done with it but now that's my equipment of choice. Easier on my feet because I do so much walking around here & more exciting than the bike which I just find kind of boring since it's just a standard bike with an uncomfortable seat. I used the upper body equipment ( you know the all in one type) for about 10 minutes and then some stretching. I think I'm getting a bit more flexible. And able to stand on one foot for a longer length of time- another age related exercise. Maybe a walk or swim later today.

I'm taking the day off from activites- no golf today. Just need some time to read, practice my music and maybe book my tickets back to the US for Christmas. I do peek at the calendar from time to time to see how many weeks before I return.- The answer- about 10 1/2. :)

Food- Well yesterday- B- sunflower toast , Lunch- salad with curried chicken, Dinner- out at a chinese restaurant- some rice, chicken, small dish of noodles. Snacks- yogurt, rice cake w/p.b., mini cone, wine. Probably above 1400 because I kind of wasn't paying attention ot amounts while I was eating out.

Today- B- same, lunch- planned soup & salad, Dinner- planning sweet & sour fish w rice. Snacks- have to have more fruit.

Hope you all have a good Thursday.

Progress as of today: 15 lbs lost so far, only 16 lbs to go!
