Hi-

Finally  I can see a loss of a lb. As I said I think I am back on track.

I have been keeping busy with my museum guide training and choir. I gave my little 2 minute presentation to my group yesterday & it went well. It's all a build up to producing a 1 hour tour of the museum. Well I figure I've got the 2 minutes down- just 58 minutes to go!  In a couple of weeks I'll need to do a 5 minute presentation. It's fun and I'm learning alot about South East Asia.

Speaking of South East Asia I'm very excited about a trip that we're taking to Vietnam & Laos in a few weeks. It's taken some planning but has come together well- Hanoi, Sapa, Halong Bay, then Luang Prabang in Laos. We'll be on a boat ( a junk) in Halong Bay for one night & 2 nights on an overnight train & the rest of the nights in nice hotels. Can't wait!!!

I haven't been writing my food down every day & need to be better about that. Exercise has been a lot of walking. I'm going to the gym though as soon as I finish posting this. Yesterday I swam which I'm trying to do at least once a week.

Off to the gym , then choir & lunch out with the choir.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Progress as of today: 15 lbs lost so far, only 16 lbs to go!

moogy on 09/27/2011:
All exciting news, weight loss, Yay! I am jealous of your being on a junk in the harbour, that would be fabulous. You are going to get to eat some wonderful food and see beautiful places. Lucky girl:) Sounds like you are going to have a great day, makes for a happy moogy:)

V on 09/27/2011:
Haha!! indeed..I think this might be your first experience with my vivid dreams and if you truly want to LOL you have to read about my nightmares as described on Sweetpea's page... Teehee.. I am so happy that your new job is giving you so much happiness :) Enjoy your day as well as your trip aboard the junk..The taxis there are called Tuk Tuks right??

thank you for your comment and reminding me that I do have some value on this site. :)

Your upcoming trip sounds amazing!!

Congrats on being down a pound!! keep up the good work!

Well done on the loss. Your trip sounds fascinating. I'd love to visit Cambodia.

I also think I'm back on track. Wow, Vietnam and Laos!!! That's SOMETHING! Food will be healthy for sure, those guys are super thin, LOL! :)

Congrats on your loss! Lots of good activity for you--good going:-)

I don't think the HIT gets easier because if it does you need to amp it up so that it is still at your limit. Good for you for joining in with the estrogen driven exercise mania round here. I didn't think I would join in, but, I am so glad I did. I hope you have a fulfilling day thinkpositive:)

Hi-

I do think that I am in a better mindset today. Yesterday was better than the day before & today probably better than yesterday so that's all progress , right?

Yesterday I walked at least 1 1/2 hours, three separate walks.  I had salmon with vegeatbles for lunch & then dinner out a Chinese restaurant which was mostly shrimp , chicken & rice. I did have some ice cream on the walk home - good though :)

Today- B- sunflowertoast, Lunch- salad, Snacks- apple Dinner- will be shrimp scampi with rice with a glass of wine. Another snack after dinner.

Not really an exercise day but will probably get out for a walk after dinner.

Hope you all are having a super weekend!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/25/2011:
Well done! Nice long walks and good on the food as well.

V on 09/25/2011:
Yes that is progress my friend!! Everyday will be a little easier :)

Good progress! Half the battle is in your mind and you sould really strong! Good exercise and food choices!

greengirl on 09/25/2011:
Good for you with the walking. It will definately pay off in the long run :-)

moogy on 09/25/2011:
You are heading in the right direction think positive:) Keep going and I am sure you will be feeling more confident about keeping on track:)

V on 09/25/2011:
I just read your comment on Moogy's post yesterday and HIIT training can be utilized with pretty much any form of cardio workouts.. If you are a runner(for example) you can up the game by going the hardest you can for a minute and give yourself a minute to rest(but keep moving)try this as many times as you can and it will improve your overall level of fitness as well as rev up the metabolism at the same time...It is the evolution of cardio, it burns 9x's as more fat, calories and it does not take a long time to do...Here is an interesting fact 30 minutes of HIIT training is more effective as running 6-7 miles not to mention the afterburn effect if you do this like your life depended on it...You can incorperate this with pretty much any cardio workout, treadmill, walking, running, jumping rope, swimming and so on :)

V on 09/25/2011:
Oh and BTW with proper HIIT training, it makes regular everyday workouts easier :)

biscottibody59 on 09/25/2011:
Glad you're feeling/doing better than before--hope it continues!

RYC: The coffee thing with me is a little complicated--I just don't care for decaf--it's pointless. Although it may be my future fate if necessary and there is one that I can live with tastewise:-) None of this was an issue until about a year to year and a half ago. Having stopped all coffee (in favor of green or black tea (1 cup usually)) for a few weeks back in June, I know the difference and it's interesting.

V on 09/26/2011:
HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training :)

grannyannie on 09/26/2011:
Saw a few episodes of the Ladies Detective Agency as well as the movie. But I'm now listening to the audiobooks.

moogy on 09/26/2011:
OK, so V got in before me with the explanation. Doing HIT makes the rest of the workout seem like a breeze!!!! Plus it really works, my scale has been going down steadily since I started doing it. Great incentive to edure the HIT and keep doing it:)

moogy on 09/27/2011:
Right, so it is now Wednesday morning and I am starting to get a little concerned that you haven't posted for a few days. I hope you are OK:)

Hi-

Well sort of getting back on track. See what the scale reads next week.

A weird eating day yesterday- a vegetarian day - first at an Indian restaurant as part of a tour so tried everything including the small donut (!), then Chinese dinner out as part of an event - again some sort of donut shaped food- not so good, a noodle dish & fruit... like I said a weird eating day. Just didn't know where to start as far as counting calories yesterday but back to it today.

So what is it about yesterday that says getting back on track?? Well I just didn't eat very much at dinner to compensate for the yummy Indian lunch. And I had a good talking to from myself!! I think I got the message.

Today- Breakfast- scrambled egg with some cheese, lunch- I'm thinking soup & sunflower bread; dinner will be out at a restaurant to be determind.

Exercise has been pretty  good for the week . Yesterday I just swam, today I'm off for a long walk.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

moogy on 09/23/2011:
Always tricky when you are not in control of where you are eating. Strange place to get a donut!!! Sounds like you have one foot back on the track. Good job with the exercise thinkpositive:)

V on 09/23/2011:
Interesting array indeed!! I am sure that all the exercise will help neutralize The UFO(unidentified food options ;) LOL) have a good one as well :)

 Hi-

Still not back on track- still trying but allowing things to get in my way& not planning very well. Guess that sums it up.

Yesterday didn't go as planned. Instead of the salad I had planned to have I had a 1/2 of a sandwich at Starbuck's. OK not so bad but then I was hungry & for some reason bought some waffles & had a waffle when I got home. Dinner was out at a nice Chinese restaurant & it was so good that calorie counting was not going on at all.

Also didn't get to the gym yesterday but did walk for about 45 min.

Today I have  a bit more control as my golf outing was canceled because of rain which was ok as I had laundry to do plus a report to write & memorize for my museum  course.

So today I  had 2 waffles for breakfast, 3 small rice cakes with nut butter for lunch plus a mango.Hmm- not very balanced. Dinner will be tacos but I'm going to try having my taco mix in a lettice leaf- see how that works out.

I did get to the gym & spent about an hour total on treadmill, elliptical, and bike plus some upper boday weights & stretching.

Hope everyone is well!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 09/22/2011:
Well, what you did is what I have been doing some, too. I am finding it helpful to not dwell on it too much. I have stepped up my exercise quite a bit and that helps. Don't be afraid of calories. I find that when I put aside my FEAR and DISTAIN of calories (yes I actually have these emotions about calories!) I am much more free to manange my weight. Weird and a little hard to put into words, but I'm getting there and you wil, too. Don't get down on yourself for those days you throw caution to the wind or don't plan like you intend to - if you don't let them bog you down you will be free to move forward and feel more like sticking to your plan.

biscottibody59 on 09/22/2011:
Lots of good stuff there--good activity even though you couldn't play golf! Have a good one!

grannyannie on 09/22/2011:
Good on getting to the gym! I hate counting calories but when I looked up all the foods I eat and made myself a spreadsheet with all the measurements and calories it became easy. Eating out though is nearly impossible to calculate!

moogy on 09/22/2011:
It is such a shame that you are having trouble with your eating control. You are working so hard with your exercise, just to burn calories from waffles!!!!! OK, time to get that brain into gear and figure out what is going on, is it the move, are you eating feelings, something is going on here thinkpositive and working it out will give you back the control you need. Hugs:)

 Hi all-

I'll have to figure out what's going on with me & my weight loss plan. I'm not making any more promises here I'm just going to say that today I will try harder to write down food & calories. My exercise is fine. More gym time would be good but I walk about on hour a day- sometimes more which is fine.

I have been eating food that did not even tempt me before which is not a good sign. But as t I said I will try harder to not give in to these temptations.

Today- Breakfast- muesli/milk  , lunch will be salad with tuna , dinner - not planned - will have fish in some form, snacks- yogurt, mango, wine

Exercise- gym time this afternoon?, after dinner walk

Hope all is well with you fine people!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

Here is an idea..Even if you don't log them here you can put a mini dry erase board/fridge magnet on your fridge door..It is convenient and also everytime you open the fridge a reminder will be there :) I hope you have a wonderful day!!!  Hi all-

Well not exactly a calorie counting weekend. Not terrible but seriously did not write down my calories.

Here's the scene- My husband & I are in a design museum- all kinds of new products, state of the art- and on the floor is a scale so my husband steps on it & weighs himself & then says "Our scale in 1Kg high. Last time I went to the Dr. & got weighed I went straight home & weighed myself on our scale & it was I Kg higher."  So when i got back to S'Pore I was thinking I had way over done it on the travel food & drink & all along the scale reads high! Oh well...

So tomorrow is Monday - a new week , new challenges but I will be writing down my calories , planning my meals and exercise!

Hope your weekends are going well.

I overdid when we had guests for dinner last night, but back to counting today. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hahaha!!! No I've never heard it and I love it!!! teehee :)

hollybelle on 09/18/2011:
Sometimes you gotta have a break and let go of counting, but get back to it on Monday!

moogy on 09/18/2011:
I love a woman with a plan and yours sounds like just the thing you need to get you focused. While you are doing your planning how about measuring yourself so that you don't have to depend on the scale to know if you have lost weight?? Hope you have a good week thinkpositive:)

moogy on 09/18/2011:
Well!! Thinking is a good thing, I wonder why you are resistant to the measuring.?? Interesting!!

biscottibody59 on 09/19/2011:
Oh, I so get the tribulations with the scale. I recently replaced mine--the old one just seemed to be more reliable, but I had to shine a lamp on it (solar cell) to work it--I now regret getting rid of it, but we all have to move on from these things--haha.

I'm still kinda moving on--the fact that my wt moved DOWN last week (after seeming weeks of up or no movement) was a vote of confidence for me keeping it--haha!

Have a great week!

Hi all-

I write this with a happy tummy :) I haven't figured out the calories on lunch but it was so delicious - tomatoes w/ mozzerella on lovely young lettuces&  more than a drizzle of o&v and then I somehow couldn't resist- panna cotta- all with beautiful berries and little dabs of chocolate around the rim of the plate. . I just looked it up & of course it's made with cream. Anyway I'll enjoy the feeling of a happy tummy & be extra good for the rest of the day.

Maybe it will help that I ate lunch halfway through an hour's walk??  No, let's see maybe 275 calories for walking & I'm guessing 400 or so for the panna cotta so it doesn't exactly equal out. OK no regrets, I'll eat something light for dinner.

Hope you all have a good Friday. Mine is going well!

Hi-

Just returned from Ikea & put together a room dividing screen & I feel like I've just had a couple of hours of exercise! I hope not to see Ikea again. We've made many trips to supplement the "fully furnished"  apartment. Luckily my husband puts most things together because evidently I have trouble just screwing in a half dozen screws. Oh well, still looks OK. The screen will hide the pile of luggage that we have in the corner of the kitchen! This place has extremely limited storage.

Anyway , also turns out that Ikea does have decent & cheap food- although  I said I would never eat there again but today the yogurt that I called lunch just didn't make it very long.

So- Breakfast- same toast; Lunch- yogurt, salmon wrap; Dinner- will be beef & vegie stir fry Snacks- banana, almonds, wine, apple, some grapes. Hungry today!

Exercise- gym for 45 min & possibly an after dinner walk.

Thanks for the comments & encouragement! It means alot to me.

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 09/15/2011:
I love IKEA and I've gotten some really yummy healthy foods from the cafeteria :) Of course they also have those cinnamon buns, which I must avoid at all costs haha. I'm sure the screen looks great! We got our kitchen cabinets for our rental property from there and I assembled each and every one of them myself, it was a definite workout. Have a good one!

glycrina on 09/15/2011:
I love that weird berry drink they have at IKEA. It is probably not healthy though . . .

V on 09/15/2011:
LOVE the Swedish Meatballs :P hahaha!! Okay so to answer your question, I have always been a pretty healthy eater, that was until almost 4 years ago when I gave birth to a son that looked at me and died in my arms...I went through alot of emotions in a "fog" of sorts and somehow snapped out of it to find myself obese, and the worse shape i have ever been in my life...Once idecided to take control again,I went back to my healthy habits and NEVER looked back on the unhealthy habits...I am lucky to have come from such an athletic family, the healthy food and workouts are second nature

moogy on 09/15/2011:
I am with umpqua, I love Ikea, although I have never eaten there. I just love the kitchen/homewares section, I could spend hours meandering through saying, "oooh, I would like this", of course, I usually buy more than I planned and things that I didn't even know I couldn't live without!!!! I have assembled quite of few tall cupboards/wardrobes etc over my time and yes, it is a workout and a test of patience!!:)

biscottibody59 on 09/15/2011:

Hi all -

Some information about my museum tour guide course for those interested ( thanks for the interest!)

The museum is the Peranankan Museum which is a museum that features the Peranakan culture here in Singapore. Peranakan is a mix of Chinese ( men) with other cultures- mostly Malay and is an interesting mix that resulted in forming their own culture. So the museum has many interesting artifacts including ceramics, textiles and furniture. The course is a background course in SE Asia including Singapore and also focuses on opportunities for public speaking and guiding.

Today's activity was chorus which is a group of about 30 women who like to  sing- not professional  but we put on a concert before Christmas and also sing at senior citizen homes. So starting today there will be constant Christmas songs in my head as we start practicing for our concert.

The reason for all these activities? I would go just plain mad if I didn't have something to do every day. I have to get out  to see other people and have real conversations.

Today my same boring breakfast- sunflower toast w/ lt butter, snack- orange mango drink at Starbucks, lunch- yogurt & a mango; dinner will be salmon with a dijon topping & asparagus & maybe a small baked potato & glass of white wine.

I did post my new weight - down a 1/2 lb from last posting. What my postings don't show is that my weight was up by 2lbs but for me it's more of on incentive to leave the posting & work to get back to it. May sound crazy but it works for me.

Hope those of you in the US are having a good sleep!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

I still say it's the change in altitude!!! Good job on the half pound though, it all counts. The museum sounds wonderful, really interesting get immersed in another culture. Hi-

I'm having a pretty good day. Today I started my training to a be a museum guide. It will require alot of reading- we received 2 very large binders + 2 books that I'll be reading during the training that goes through December. I'll need to write some papers and be ready to guide a group on an hour tour without notes. So, I have my work cut out for me but I'm excited & the group that I'm training with seems very nice & is an international group of women. The training starts at 8:45 & goes until 1:15. There were snacks offered & I tried to only eat a few healthy snacks as I didnt get home until 1:45 so it was part of my lunch. Well, I'll see how this goes- probably eat a little there & have some soup or salad when I get home.

Exercise today was around 45 min in the gym that included treadmill, elliptical & upper body weights. Yesterday I ended up just walking - it took me an hour to walk home & that was it for me- didnt make it to the gym.

Today- B- sunflower toast w/ lt butter , banana; lunch- 6 bite-sized snacks + soup, yogurt; dinner will be a chicken dish with chillies & cashews that I learned in my cooking class last week.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 17.5 lbs to go!

KayBee on 09/13/2011:

What kind of museum will you be a guide in? Sounds very interesting! Your chicken dish sounds delish! (my orange mango drink is just a bottled concentrate that I buy which has some artificial sweetener, and almost no calories. I dilute it and it's very refreshing, especially with a spicy curry.)

Sounds like a nice adventure with the museum thing:-) Good luck to you!

I appreciate your comments re: the second opinion. I'm always telling other people to do that. I hope I don't have to be the one to resort to it this time.
