Hi-

Hoping to make some progress this week. I think that I have my exercise routine down & will get to the gym 3-4 x this week and walk in between. Now I need to focus more on my meals & snacks. I tend to eat when bored & there is alot of down time here but that may change this week as my activities start up this week.

The weekend went pretty well except for the box of  sweet popcorn that I ate at the movies.( We saw Contagion that I don't really recommend but Matt Damon is good to look at.)

I haven't been weighing & measuring food so much so will get back to doing that.

So this week will focus on having 1300-1400 calories, measuring & weighing food & eating mostly chicken & fish.

Off to listen to a lecture at a museum & then will walk home through a park- or walk to a bus stop. I'll see and then go to the gym in the afternoon.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 17.5 lbs to go!

Have fun today :) Hey i didn't see this post prior to my entries below to you..

V on 09/11/2011:
Totally agree on Matt Damon :P

moogy on 09/11/2011:
Sorry about that, I felt to sick to post over the weekend. I love your plan for the week. Sounds like a plan for success. I wish you good luck:)

Umpqua on 09/12/2011:
You have a good plan in place for the week! I like Matt Damon too ;)

RE the beach, we go to Highland Lake in Winsted since it's 10 minutes away. Our friends live on the lake and have a boat so we swim off their dock, or park at their house and walk to the little beach up the road. It's a good sized lake and the boys love it, they've made a lot of swimming breakthroughs there!

biscottibody59 on 09/12/2011:
Thanks for the coffee info! You seem to be making the most out of your time there--good for you:-)

RYC: The walk stands alone--20 min for that day (always with the dog). The dog loves to jog too, but with the stopping and starting it's all I can do to pay attention to the intervals and the traffic.

Then the jog alternating with walking (Jog 2 min/Walk 3 min) continuously 7 times is a separate workout--I have an interval timer on my watch so I just set it to beep accordingly. So I think you gave me a little more credit, thank you!

Maria7 on 09/12/2011:
Sounds like you've been busy...hope you've had a good Monday. :-)

Hi all-

I had a good day on Friday. I worked out at the gym for about an hour which included some upper body weights & stretching. I needed to pick a golf shirt that I had ordered so hopped in a taxi to the American Club to pick it up. I decided that I was happy that we  didn't join the Am Club- it just doesn't seem that friendly or social- more like a business club. Then took a subway- the MRT- to the fine arts museum to see an exhibit there. Had lunch at a restaurant, Dome,- the best lunch- grilled portobella mushrooms with beets, a little goat cheese, pine nuts&  a soft buttery lettuce.. delicious. Followed that with flat white coffee- perfect. Then walked about 20 minutes to my bus but stop, on the way saw an art exhibit.

Dinner was back at the same restaurant because I wanted my husband to see one of the exhibits at the art museum- it was called the Yellow Ribbon project & was art work from prisoners - quite remarkable, And then because it was late & we ended up at the same restaurant where I had lunch- this time a Thai salad & not as wonderful as lunch.

Today we went to a wet market- a bustling place with mostly local people. We bought some shrimp, vegetables, a pork tenderloin & dried chillies & dried mushrooms. I wanted some chicken but the vendor send "sold out" even though he had meat in the case- couldn't figure that out... Oh, also bought 2 Chinese sausages to put in my rice cooker for flavor. We walked down to the market & took a taxi back. Later took a bus to Orchard Rd- a main area with many amazing malls- & my husband bought a guitar. We celebrated by having sushi for lunch. I'll have to think about how many pieces I had- it was the type of restaurant with a conveyor belt that comes around & you take the sushi that you want.

For dinner we'll have the shrimp- maybe a scampi recipe that I've made before. We bought tickets for a movie at our local mall. It's nice here because you buy tickets & oick out your seats. So no need to get to the theatre super early.

Weather here- well sweaty, does that sum it up? But that is pretty much the weather every day!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 17.5 lbs to go!

You are really keeping busy :) Your lunch sounds DEEEELISH :P Have fun at the movies :) What are you going to see??

grannyannie on 09/10/2011:
Sounds like a delicious menu! Keep up the good workouts.

Umpqua on 09/10/2011:
What a wonderful lunch! What is flat white coffee? I'm imagining milk but no sugar. It sounds like you're having a great time visiting all the local markets and attractions, enjoy!

biscottibody59 on 09/10/2011:
Your entry prompted me to look up just what that particular sort of coffee was about--I'd never heard of it. Apparently some places here call it "cappo" and some Starbucks can make it (just from a little internet reading). Other than that I guess I'll have to check out a video on how to prepare.

Thanks for the reply on the golf. Nine holes and walking the course has to be a good workout--good for you! And quite enjoyable as well I'm sure:-)

Okay I am guessing UConn is your team??? I love basketball as well :) And LOL to your fball joke!!!! I am going to have to use that one and attempt to twirl what is left of my hair when I do it ;) Hahaha Did you shoot hoops in hs?? college??

Hi!

Having a good day. This morning I went golfing- 9 holes, which was fun. That may be my exercise for the day depending on what time we have dinner. If we eat early enough there will be time for an early evening walk. There is a nice walking path next to the river with an artificial  surface like a running track that is very easy on the feet for walking or running.

Breakfast- sunflower toast with jam; Lunch- salad with deli chicken & lt dressing, pineapple & blueberries; snack- yogurt, and ?    Dinner- to be determind.

I kind of cooked myself out last night with the sweet & sour pork. Now I know why the Chinese eat out alot. Those dishes are time consuming- marinade for the meat, sauce, and lots of chopped vegetables and I bought a fresh pineapple so I had to peel & cut that up. I'm more used to a 15 min prep and 15 min. cooking!  Oh & the new wok was interesting. The person I bought it from had cured it & I wasn't listening closely when she talked about how to use it for the first time. Well I was glad we didn't have a smoke alarm because the flames were shooting out from every which way on the wok. Guess I didn't wipe all of the oil- or whatever off of the outside. All is well and it was fun using it.

That's it from my side of the world.

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 17.5 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/08/2011:
Sounds like a great day! Nice menu. I love fresh pineapple and buy it often. Glad you didn't burn down the kitchen! :-)

Umpqua on 09/08/2011:
I had a wok when I had my first apartment and I know they're tricky. I let a friend use it to cook me dinner and he ended up destroying it! I should get another though, I love a good stir fry.

Sorry you are feeling homesick for CT. If it makes you feel better it's cold and wet here at the moment and we're already losing a lot of leaves. Have a good one!

liza36 on 09/08/2011:
Cooking in general is tons of work, maybe that's why I don't do it too often! Nice you got some exercise in already, doing something you enjoy. Have a great day.

hollybelle on 09/08/2011:
Dakota Bread is a variety of bread made here by Great Harvest Bread Company (which is a chain). It has whole grains, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and other good stuff in it. I like it. All their breads are natural and have no bad stuff in them. They are expensive - like $5-$6 a loaf, but it's a splurge for us and it lasts a long time because it's good nutrition and you don't need to eat alot of it.

moogy on 09/08/2011:
Ha! Yes, woks can be tricky if it isn't yours and it is freshly cured!! I know what you mean, the cooking part of Chinese cooking is so quick but the chopping, dicing and prep takes a g e s!!!! I have mine down to a fine art now and as I only cook for myself the prep isn't too bad. Have a wonderful day thinkpositive:)

Maria7 on 09/08/2011:
Good on the golfing...good exercise. :-)

biscottibody59 on 09/09/2011:
Glad you enjoyed the golf--do you have to use a cart?

I'd like to take up golf, but I just hate the idea of using a cart--smell/noise--defeats the whole thing for me. There aren't any places close by that don't have them. But the old fat man contingency rules the golf courses here, not that they're all old and fat, but they pay and play the most so I guess they rule the roost--haha!

Didn't mean to go off on that tangent--hope you enjoy your wok/walk!

moogy on 09/09/2011:

Hi-

Still battling with the scale but then it's a combination of still fighting off the food & wine from my flights, indulging a bit since I got here & I think my scale here is just not as friendly as the scale at my US home. Now the scale reads close to my posted weight. Looking to see some change by early next week.

So back to the gym this am for an hour using the elliptical, treadmill, bike & upper body weight machine. Then off shopping which included a bit of walking . Maybe finish up the day with a walk with my husband.

Breakfast- sunflower toast; lunch- salad with chicken & veg.; dinner will be sweet & sour pork with rice in my new wok, snacks- yogurt, carrots & hummus, wine & mini ice cream cone. Should total around 1400 calories.

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 17.5 lbs to go!

You're doing great! I try not to weigh myself too often as fluctuations in fluid can make it look like we've gained or lost more than we have. Also wonder about muscle gain?

Hi-

Ok , well yesterday I was really good & today just so-so. The cooking class was fun & we made a number of Chinese dishes & I have to say that they use alot of oil. I was pouring oil in the wok & the instructor said I'll say when you should stop pouring. Well I kept looking at her expecting her to say stop but I don't know exactly how much but alot more than I would use when cooking. In addition to sampling all of the dishes I had 1 1/2 servings of the dessert , Pulot Hiam, which consisted of black rice that was soaked & cooked with sugar and then you pour coconut cream & a palm sugar topping over it. It may not sound great but it was. Many calories in that.

So for dinner I had a salad. I did have a good walk today so hoping the scale won't be up tomorrow.

Otherwise I'm settling in & next week will start my activities to keep me busy each day.

I never use the amount of oil that they do and everything turns out well. Just have to heat the oil until it gets scary!!!! That way nothing sticks!! LOL I hope you have a good day tomorrow:)

 Hi all-

Happy Labor day to all in US. It's a regular work day here in Singapore. But everday here is a holiday for me! Living in a small apartment there are few chores to do besides some general cleaning & having dinner ready in the evening.

Today I went to the gym & spent about 1 hour total and used the elliptical, treadmill & bike .

Meals- Breakfast- sunflower toast w/small amount of butter- Lunch- pumpkin/apple soup with piece of bread- dinner - salmon with bread crumb/parmesan topping and green beans  & rice- snacks- banana, yogurt, lime juice. mini ice cream cone. - Around 1400

Tomorrow I'm going to a cooking class. I've wanted to do that since I moved here. Just to learn more about local ingredients, vegetables, etc.

Still fighting jet lag....time for bed.

Re: your comment on the heat. If you choose to live in a tropical climate I am afraid it comes with heat, but heat with rain or without!!! LOL. The cooking class sounds great, I would love that. Shopping in local markets would be much easier if you knew what the stuff was and what to do with it. I have that problem in China Town, I know quite a lot about Chinese cooking but some of the stuff is quite quizzical!!!! Have a great week thinkpositive:)

moogy on 09/06/2011:
When my husband was in the RAAF, I always told him "Don't ask for a posting north of Brisbane", I was lucky we weren't sent any higher. I think your attitude is great!! I have this recipe for Doughnut French Bread and it is 'legal', just beat an egg and soak one piece of bread as usual, spray a frypan and cook the french toast. Meantime on a large plate put a couple of tablespoons of caster sugar (superfine) and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, mix together well and when the toast is cooked dredge the toast in the mix. Tastes just like a doughnut, especially if you serve with blended fresh strawberries. Yum! About 230 cals and worth every one of them:)

FitAmbitions on 09/06/2011:
hey ty for the comment! Lumpia is a phillipino spring roll/egg roll style item. It's wrapped similar t a spring roll with cabbage and other chopped veggies and some chopped meat (pork perhaps?) then deep fried (I know so bad) They are quite yummy though and smaller than an eggroll. I had 2 and felt most satisfied.

Hi from Singapore-

All of my flights went well & I arrived safely here at midnight on Friday. The jet lag hasn't set in yet but I can assure you that it will. Last time it took me a full week before I felt really human.

I started to figure out the calorie count of my food & drinks but gave up on it when I couldn't remember what day I ate what. . But I can say that i did consume too much wine & a few too many munchies but it gets really boring with all of the waiting  & sitting. So I'll give the scale a few days before I record my weight.

I don't like these big transitions & my poor husband had to listen to how I really feel about being here. I know that I'll settle in & I'm invovlved in a lot of activities here to keep me busy.  A friend invited me to brunch tomorrow so it will be nice to make contact with someone here who has visited me back home in the US.

Hope to find some time to respond to postings- maybe after my nap....

Hi -

Just a quick update before I pack up my computer & leave  for my home in Singapore. Although down 1/2 lb on the scale today I'll wait until I return to see how friiendly my scale is when I return . I'll try to resist the airport foods & drinks & desserts on the plane.

I had a good day with my grandchildren. We had great gelato at Whole Foods, played mini golf & had good quality time together. I told them that I was not big on long good byes & they said - won't we get a hug? There were lots of hugs all around.

Talk to you next from the other side of the world!- Coming closer to your time zone Moogy!!

Asia is to Australia as Mexico is to the US, food, migrants. Hugs all round indeed, I think I would shrivel and die if I had to leave my live in grandchildren. * Updated with 1/2 lb loss- it all counts, right!

Hi all-

Today was a day of getting organized for my departure to Singapore early Thurs. I ran some errands made phone calls & trying to remember everything  of importance to shut down the house until we return for the holidays. Exercise was general running around & I think I'm still exhausted from the hurricane clean up.

Tomorrow will be packing & trying to spend some time with my grandchildren & daughter. It's hard on us to be apart for so long & I hate the good-byes.Maybe another mini golf game & an ice cream. See, it's always about the food!

I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't lose a few more lbs in August. I'll have to get back into a good routine in Singapore. I look forward to lots of mangoes & prawn.

As a retired educator September has always been a month of new beginnings- a new school year, new goals for the school year- a general feeling of anticipation mixed with some  anxiety. Although I'm no longer working in education I still hold that feeling. I hope for everyone with school age children that the school year has a wonderful and fulfilling beginning. And if you are a student- like Em- that your school year is fabulous!

Progress as of today: 13.5 lbs lost so far, only 17.5 lbs to go!

Hi all-

I finally got power tonight after Hurricane Irene. I had a generator but was getting a bit tired of keeping it going. Our house & property just had high winds & lots of downed limbs & branches so no complaints. Many people have water in their basements & worse. I am exhausted though from the clean up & getting the pool clean.

Didn't really pay a great deal of attention to counting calories but will start again tomorrow.

Hope to get a chance to read diaries tomorrow.

Good night.

Progress as of today: 13 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

We were SO darn lucky not to lose power. Most of my family lost it and we almost always lose it if there's a storm. We have some downed trees and branches as well, nothing major. Fall cleanup will be extra challenging this year! Have a good one!

Thank you for asking, I never really get the chance to talk about this with too many people...Most think i am a bit nuts(perhaps..LOl ) But i really am happy that I found a workout that I enjoy doing everyday...Regardless of the outcome, I am just thrilled to even be considered!!!
