So I'm kinda going down this new weight loss road (new to me anyways) lately, and as I look at the actual INFORMATION regarding it, I'm getting nothing but frustrated! I'm watching my carlories more, which really is pretty new to me. According to the different places I've calculated though, for my height weight and lifestyle I should be taking in about 1000 MORE than I already am a day! From what I've discovery about my body already, if I bump it up that much, I'd be gaining! ~sigh~ No wonder people get so frustrated loosing weight, the more you learn, the more confusing it can be. I figured, in my non-nutritional-expect mind, that by maintaining my calorie intake between my basal calorie needs and how much I actual expend in daily activities, I would loose weight, and that does work for me. Now it seems I'm putting my body in starvation mode though (doesn't feel like it, heck I feel full most days as it is!) Guess I'll surf around some more and get more confused. If anyone has any recommendations/ can offer assitance to me, please do...you can icq me at 14709702 or email me at firebabe369@hotmail.com.
Thanks guys and gals! =0)
~~eatting good so far, atkins shake for breakfast, went walking 2 miles in the heat with my buddy for the dept, and had chicken with mayo, egg and a slice of cheese on some lettuce for lunch. I've also found those little rice cakes satisfy my sweet tooth, I've had 4 of the little ones so far today, that leaves me 3 left to complete the total 'serving'. Still have dinner to think about today, but I'm keeping the cals down while meeting the nutritional needs. If I feel full with what I eat, even though the total cals for the day seem low, would that be enough? I figure I'll probably hit around 1200 again today...I'm a tad over 700 now...
~more reading and finally called my mean-cruel-evil-stepmother (family joke, I actually adore her) to ask her advice.(She is a pluthera of knowledge!) Knowledge is power, but in weight loss it can be so damn confusing! I told her what my calories have been and she recommended uping the level a bit, but making certain I stick with the good stuff so I'll give it a good try. I have been programming myself so long now that bread is bad for me that mentally I feel like I have failed for the day if it touches my lips. I know that I can work in fresh fruit and some more veggies in my diet, hopefully without feeling guilty and stressing out over it. It's ironic that some of you are going into a sugar free month, but I'm setting my goals for the month of June to include a fresh fruit everyday and enough veggies to get my cals between 1500 and 1600. I'm not even going to TRY to figure how long it's been since I had fruit on a regular basis. Don't blame Atkins though! Anyway, here's my new commitment to myself and all of you, 1 fruit serving a day minimum for the next week, I'll add in a serving each week til I hit 5 servings a day. Still staying away from the bread thing though. I know I'm a carbo junkie! I'm not certain what my 'current diet' would be called now, seems like most others though, I have taken what I know works for me, and am adjusting it to me my own personal 'diet for MY life'

I use to feel the same way,,till i took on trying weight watchers one last time and eating lots of food like they told me i had to do if i wanted to lose and lose consistantly,,,,and thats what worked for me,,,i eat three meals a day and eat good to,,and i can remember in the past that i would try this program and would skimp and not eat half the time and found i could not lose or else would gain,,didn't make sense to me,but finally when i started EATING food on a daily basis and lots of it and good stuff tho,,,i started slowly dropping and the best part is,,,i have NOT gained any since i started,,,so try to figure out what the amount you need to be eating,cause there is truth to how you won't lose if the body thinks your starving it:{ Best of luck:}

Hello today. It sounds like you are doing very well. Don't feel bad, I am a carb junkie too. Anything carb!!!! I admire your way of thinking also. Adding a fruit everyday is a fantastic idea. I can't unually even get a serving of fruit in a day either. I think is will incorporate your little way of thinking there into my diet also. Thats what this site is all about anyway, helping each other. I will sign off now, but remember this quote by Albert Camus. IN THE DEPTH OF WINTER, I FINALLY LEARNED THAT WITHIN ME THERE LAY AL INVINCIBLE SUMMER. Remember that summer is just around the corner and keep up that that willpower of steel. C-Ya, Sherri, soon to be sexy vixen.

Hey there, I am going through the same thing trying to get my calories up there. I am wondering, though, whether you are trying to restrict your fat content? If you aren't you should be able to add a little more fat to your diet, and a little fat has a lot of calories. Of course getting more fruits and veggies is great too, but I wasn't sure if you are trying to restrict your carbs and at least many fruits can have a lot of sugar, but this may not be a concern. Anyway, I would not worry terribly about starving yourself and if you are getting 1500 calories, I'm sure that is not going to trigger starvation mode. I would only start worrying if you are consistantly getting under 1000 calories for many days in a row. I think if you have 5 1500-calorie days per week and a couple of 1000-calorie days, it's not even that big a deal. But if most of your days are around that 1000-calorie level, you might need to make a concerted effort to push those calories up. Hunger is a funny thing, though. Sometimes I think, well, just go with what your body is saying and if you aren't hungry, than you don't need the extra food. But I think just as you can be fooled by your body into OVER-eating, you can just as easily be fooled into UNDER-eating, so you often have to track this stuff and make sure you're getting enough calories and the right proportions of macronutrients...
