Well, I'm on pins and needles already today! Today is the day that I'm supposed to hear from the forestry department about the job I interviewed for. I worked all night last night, but somehow I don't think I'll be doing much sleeping today.
Yesterday was pretty eventful, I didn't get to work in the yard like I would have liked. I spent the day talking to school principals and chasing after truant children. My nephew, it appears got in trouble and can't go back to school until his mom goes with him, but the school said that he should have been in class. Oh well, I spent a good couple of hours trying to locate my sister so she would know what was happening. Then, I stopped by the high school and checked my 14 yr. olds attendance for this month. There have been a couple of times that things happened and it didn't seem exactly right. Well, it isn't right.
It seems that Jason has pretty much skipped all of May with his buddy. The real shock is that the school didn't catch this AT ALL! No phone calls home, no letters, or anything. I still wouldn't have known if I hadn't of followed up on my hunch! So I spent the remainder of my afternoon dealing with him. He's sooo BUSTED! But, now I have no shortage of help in the garden.
At least it's just normal kid pranks that I'm dealing with. One of Jason's friends was accused of exposing himself to a female classmate yesterday. I have known this boy for several years now and I have a hard time believing that he did what he was accused of, but I don't have all of the story either. And I know of a friend of my niece's (My other sister's daughter) who is only 14 and pregnant. So I guess I just have to be happy that it's truancy and nothing more serious.
Yesterday's menu:
Breakfast...Banana
Lunch...Tuna sandwich, iced tea
Dinner...Italian sausage w/ wild rice and mushrooms in an herb sauce (homemade), mustard greens, iced tea
Snack...Creamsicle
Well, I've rambled enough for now. Have a healthy day Angie

Hey Angie, just wanted to wish you luck on the forestry postion! What a fun job that would be! We had one of the forestry guys at training last night (fire dept) talking about theplan of attack regarding all the wildland/brush fires going on in our area right now. I tell you, if I were to go into a paid position, Forestry would definately be at the top of my 'I wish' list!

Why were you handling this problem with your nephew and not your sister? just curious,,anyway,hope it gets resolved,hate to see kids missing school like that,,if they only had alittle more wisdom and knew how much that schooling will mean in the long run,,,,,well have a good day ,,:}

What a wild tear these billiant kids of ours take us on, Angie! I am thinking about your adventures yesterday with a little smile on my face. Those years are behind me, but not far from memory! We are at first shocked, I guess to think that we were the last, in some ways, to "know". Yet that is the job at that age.... to be out there trying their stuff. In some cases it is milk as not so unusual. I think it is not altogether untrue that it is the sign of a "good" kid when he does not flaunt such things in front of his mom? :) Poor, lots of extra chores to do now, Jason! Good training for when he has to take the reins in these matters for his own chidren. You sound like a grrreat mother. I commend you! And, know that I am finger crossing for you regarding your hopes for this new forestry position!!!!
I want to say now that your comments to me yesterday were so moving. I accepted them as a great gift. I tried to think of your youth and confusion and all of the responsibilities you took on in that moment when you make your decisions. I tried to think of myself, a middle-aged woman, as a small child and what adult me would be capable of doing for her. I decided that I could move mountains for another. I felt so sure of that. I have had success in that. So I kind of symbolically took my own hand in saying: "Come on, Honey, I'm getting you out of here." It is amazing the power each of us has to bring hope to another. Thank you for yesterday.... that time you took to reach a stranger. Your friend, C.

Wow Seems like your going through a tough time! My niece never goes to school and the school will send letters home threatening my sister but it does no good...and they take no action at all. So here she is...only 13 and she is not going to school because she doesn't want to. She would rather stay home and watch soaps all day. She has been doing this for about 2 yrs now. I told my sister that she needs to punish her..no tv no radio until she starts going to school. I think that is pathetic of her not to do anything. I give you lots of credit for the disapline! I think kids need lots of it now a days! Have a wonderful day and I hope your son get's the picture!
