Crittermama - Saturday Apr 27, 2002 Weight:158.5          (Lean and Free 2000 Plus)

I tried to do an entry last Thursday I think and something happened to my connection so it didn't work. GRRR!! It hasn't worked since til now.

Well, today has been an interesting day. We went to my mom's and saw Grandma. She's doing well. Almost all the bruises on her face are gone and she looks good. The weather, however is not!! Very heavy snow. We are supposed to get 4-6 inches. It was very slippery on the way home. On the way home I was going about 35 because I almost ended up in the ditch twice and because I had Duaine, Andrew, and Mickey with me. Dh had gone separately because I got my hair cut first. He had Kevin on the way home and he left before me. Anyway I was going along and there was a line of cars behind me. Well, I wasn't about to go any faster because the roads were bad. The Tahoe/Suberban type vehicle (really nice one) decided to pass me. He was going pretty fast. I thought to myself as he was going around me that he wouldn't get far driving fast like that. He no more than got back in the right lane and he lost all control and was sliding sideways all over the road. I slowed down a little so he wouldn't hit me and suddenly when he was on the wrong side of the road he hit the dirt and rolled over. The girl's arm was flopping around outside the window. I breathed in quickly said, "Oh my gosh!!" and pulled over. I told the boys to stay put and ran across the highway. All his friends that were also behind me pulled over and got across before I did (no kids to talk to first). One girl was crying. These people were on there way to prom! They were talking to the 2 inside and I asked like 3 times if they were okay. They were, just some minor cuts. The driver was so mad he was swearing like crazy and pounding on the steering wheel. I thought he was going to yell at me when he got out. The driver of the Tahoe that had been the next one behind me got the girl out and put her in his vehicle. They both had to crawl out her window. The guy told me he was very sorry when he got out. I was very relieved that he wasn't blaming me. But I told him it was okay, I just wanted to make sure they were okay. Pretty soon the first response people began showing up, then the firemen who immediately set up to direct traffic, then finally the cop. I asked to make sure I had to stay. If I didn't I wanted to get home because it just wasn't nice out. But the guy said that he would have me talk to the cop when he was done taking care of everyone else. So I stood outside, checking on the boys now and then and waited out of the way. The kids were underage so they had to get in the ambulance and go to the hospital even though they weren't really hurt. The girl just needed a bandaid for her finger. There were a lot of people headed for prom that passed through the accident scene and all of them that I saw looked like they knew the people in the accident. How scary for them!! Especially the ones that saw the two being strapped onto the gurny thing. That made things look way worse than they really were. Finally the cop was ready to find out what happened and he was going to talk to the friends when the guy I had talked to pointed me out. The cop laughed at me because I had been standing out there shivering and my hair was wet with snow. He told me to get in my van and he would be with me in a minute. When he got to me he saw the boys and asked if they were okay. They said yes and he asked if they were just a little scared. Yes, they were. He told me that everyone was okay and explained about taking them in the ambulance even though I had heard all that. He asked if I was the van the guy had been passing. Yes. So I told him what happened and he took notes. He asked if they had hit ma at all but they hadn't. My van was in this condition before. I didn't have my driver's license on me (stupid, I know) so he took my name, birthdate and phone number. I was shaking so bad and was so scared that they were hurt really bad when it happened but I had had plenty of time to calm down by the time he got to me. Then when I got home and had to explain it all to dh, he told me that he had almost gone into the ditch and had spun around once! I'm so glad he didn't hit anyone. He called my mom to see if I had left and she said that I left not too long after he did and he told her that I should have stayed there. I will be the first to admit that I don't drive well in bad conditions. So I had to call her too. So where is dh now? He went to Rice Lake, 20 miles away, to get new tires on the van. This isn't supposed to let up here til 4am!! He took Kevin, too because he had promised to take him shopping to spend the money he earned doing chores and stuff. I took the other 2 while he was at a birthday party. I told him to be careful and he's like, "Careful!! No way!" And he asked Kevin, "Hey, Kevin, are you ready for another ride?" He was laughing all the time. So I'm praying and hoping that they will make it there and back without going in the ditch or hitting anyone. Neither of the vans have good tires on them. It's been quite an evening.

As far as eating and stuff goes, well, I had some pizza and a little bit of chocolate cake, not too much, and not enough water yet. But I had a ton of raw carrots and corn, and some potato with broccoli in it. I will drink more water before going to bed. I haven't exercised yet but I'm going to thoroghly clean my house tonight so that should count. I just had to see if I could get on and tell you about my evening. Well, off to clean my house. Hope you all are doing fine. God bless.

Comment left by MichelleP on 04/27/2002: Hi,

Welcome back, I was wondering where you had gone! What a scary night. I never drive when it snows.. ever. I had tried it one time when I was 16 and did 5 360's in a major highway. I was the only one on the road thank God! The weird part was that I was in the car with my mom on my way to driving school... LOL you would have thought they would have closed it. Our city closes down if we get a few inches.

Glad to hear all were safe in the end that is all that really matters!

Take care and have a wonderful night!
