Dear DD and Friends,

I have only been able to do the one walk as our weather took a cold spell and my joints are sensitive to this  - so instead I have been doing exercises in the AM.  I was wondering how often you post your scale weight.  I was thinking every week - as if I do it daily my numbers will be all over the place.  Plus it seems like a weekly number will allow me to see solid progress not just a good day here and a bad day there.  I won't lie, I want instant results - but I must have a better attitude - taking things slow and steady and building my body strength and stamina.  Sometimes too - when you build muscle the weight actually gets higher b/c muscle is heavier - I must give this more time.

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 49.8 lbs to go!

I think, weekly sounds good! :)

V on 03/05/2012:
Weigh ins once a week sounds reasonable :) I hope you have a good day!

legcramps on 03/05/2012:
Sounds good!

supercheese on 03/05/2012:
I do once a week. I use to do daily but that messed with my head big time....It takes a lot of strength to not stand on the scale everyday but I've lost 1/2 in and gained 2 lbs LOL

It has been a very long time since being on this site.  I have had so many life issues that I have let myself go.  I am not totallly upset with my looks, as I do try to wear clothes that look nice and flatter the 'curves' - but I know that I would be healthier if I would just exercise 3 X/ week.

What promptedd me this day was a dream I had about a trainer I used to have.  He had a small gym and he was very good at working with me.  In my dream his gym was all rearraged and therre were several overweight women and men working out and helping each other.  I was just watching and thinking (in my dream) I really need to be like those people.  When I woke up I pondered the dream and began to think about what led me to the trainer (as I cannot afford him now at all).  What led me to him before was I began a walking routine at my local park.  It took me about 25 min to walk the 1.25 mile and I would walk it twice to make an hour.  I did this faithfully daily over the summer and lost 20 lbs.  I felt better, stronger and healthier.  I didn't really 'watch my diet' as I am a very picky eater.  I don't eat much at all, but the meds I am on have caused me to gain weight.

So, I am here today to state, "I am ready to begin walking again and I have no excuses!!  My kids will begin track and will not be home after school - so I should not be home after work!!  We should all be busy 'being healthy!'  I choose this day as it is supposed to be sunny but even if it is not - I will wear a sweatshirt and put on my sneakers and do my walk. - Now if I could only find my headphones!  But I will not let that stop me - if I cannot find them, I will use my mini timer to pace myself.

It is hard for me to imagine that I have almost hit the 200 mark at 5'1" and even though  - I can hide it well - I am in a true sense obese!  My birthday is in May and I want to be at least 10-15 lbs lighter by then.  I think I can... I think I can...  - this is all good in writing - but I must take action.  I have set my walking clothes out along with my heart rate monitor all I need to do is NOT change my mind when 3:30 hits and it is time to go out.  Please send your 'motivational vibes my way' and hopefully I will post tonight that i was successful!!    This was taken last week and I am at my 199 mark.  I carry it all in my belly and behind - I guess I am an 'apple' but I don't really know for sure.

Welcome back, Cybermom! You do look nice in your pic! Cute haircut! Keep posting and stick with your plan. You have been on here before and you know most of us believe in lifestyle not diet and it sounds like you have had your call to a new lifestyle in your dream. Dreams come true, you know! :o)

Thank you _ I have just returned from my 1.25 walk. It was brisk out there, but I knew I just had to keep going. I completed the path in just under 25 minutes. My legs were stiff, but I kept thinking 'keep going' ~ don't worry about tomorrow - stay in the moment and walk today.

Thank you all for your 'welcome' - I feel very encouraged today :-)

Trying to find my body fat % was tricky - I have answers from calculators anywhere from 22% - 33.3 %  The 22% used several measurements where the 33 % only used my age and weight.  Any suggestions for a good calculator online?

We just returned from vacation and today is July 1 and I am ready to begin my weight loss journey.

Did stretching exercises for 12 minutes (I'm starting slow and hope to add walking one mile this evening)

Breakfast - bowl of instant apple cinn oatmeal and coffee.  Drank some iced tea for taking some vitamines and meds.

snack - carrot raisin muffin and bowl of fresh fruit

Lunch - cucumber slices, peach slices, small pack of skittles

Dinner - chicken stuffed with broccoli and cheese, bread with ICBNButter, Milk, Ice Tea

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 50 lbs to go!

Don't know about BMI calculations, I hve heard only truly accurate way is underwater, but I think you will probably have some suggestions later. Good start to the day. Congratulations on taking charge of your health. You are in charge. Hope to hear from you often.

I'm so excited ~ I haven't been on the scale in over a week and my number changed!!  Yippee.  I feel like this is a jump start because school is officially on break untl Jan 3.  I have 11 days to control my eating and increase my exercise.  Well, at least control my eating.  I believe I tore my miniscus in my left knee because I have pain when I go down steps and if I turn a certain way it 'catches' .  I started taking Move Free Advanced by Schill.  It says you should feel results in 7 days - not sure I beleive it but I am desperate.

Progress as of today: 8.7 lbs lost so far, only 31.8 lbs to go!

Cybermom4 - Friday Dec 04, 2009
(not sure yet - but lots of veggies.)
Weight: 177.2

Had a good day today.

cereal for breakfast

carrots and cheese for lunch

and a small portion of chicken scampi (instead of shrimp)

went to curves for a workout - I really worked those hydrolics!  Got my heart rate up to 187 - which seems a little high for most people but that is pretty normal for me.  When I went to the trainer 2 years ago - he said as long as my heart rate doesn't linger and goes down to a lower rate fairly soon; I should be ok.  He also made sure that I could talk during workouts and wasn't too out of breath.

When my son was 17 he attended a physical fitness training 'experiment' at hershey med center and he told me his heart rate was always very high compared to the normal chart but they said his heart was just fine.  So it must be something genetic.

Well, off to take my youngest daughter shopping for christmas presents.

Progress as of today: 5.3 lbs lost so far, only 35.2 lbs to go!

Well, I'm pretty excited.  I wasn't going to get on the scale but I couldn't resist after my shower.  I had a good week so far.  Healthy eating~ exercise and good rest.  Now if I could just keep this routine and not get side tracked.

I must keep thnking I am worth the time I take for myself.  With 4 kids and a new soon to be daughter in law (who is lovely by the way) I often feel like Not keeping a routine.  But if my 90 year old grandfaterh is convinced that routines work for him  - and honestly i well remember when i was in college full time and worked full time I had a very busy schedule and followed a routine religiously.  I was was quite productive!

So  - tonight I am going to make a list for work and a list for home //  I'm going to plan out my days and really try to follow the plan.  Who knows - I just may see results - real  results!!!

Progress as of today: 5.3 lbs lost so far, only 35.2 lbs to go!

Yes, I planned to walk las night and I actually did! Routine - schedule it in - WE are WORTH it -most definitely!

Well, I'm going to begin a new journey.  I have been off track for almost a year and I've gained all my weight back + 2lbs.  I've watched enoough "Biggest Loser" episodes to know in my head that I have to make a life style change and I cannot wait any longer.  I keep waiting for a 'feeling'-  Like some kind of motivation that will sweep me off my feet and take me to exercise land.

With no real 'feeling of motivation' I went to my local curves and joined.  I start at 4:00 today to get my weigh in and trained on the machines.  I've read the blogs that rate Curves and they say the machines are hydrolic and the more you put into it the more you will get out of it.  I really want a good work out but I know I have to start slow.  At age 47, I have developed bad knees and very weak muscles.  I'm also somewhat motivated by my 90 yo grandfather.  After visiting him over the holidays, I leared that he was the 'fitness instructor' for the folks at the nursing home.  He has anywhere from 3 - 29 people in his class every afternoon. He says " gotta have a routine, that's what keeps you going!"

So ~ here's to my grandpa - Hope my first visit to curves will be a positive one.

Had my appointment at Curves ~ it went bad and good.  I weighed in at 182 with my shoes on, so my scale at home is pretty accurate.  But my body is almost 1/2 fat!!  needless to say I am in (what the chart says) Very Poor Health :(  But the good news is I took the first step to rebuilding my body.  I was trained and then I did the workout.  I had my heart rate monitor on and I did elevate my heart rate and burned those calories!!  Then I went to Giant and bought weight watchers meals for the week along with some fruit and special K cereal  and a bag of ready cut carrots.  I hope my determination  and motivation is this strong tomorrow.

Good for you! You're on your way! Remember, you didn't regain your weight one and two pounds a day. It took time, so taking it off works the same way. For me, one pound a week would be utterly fantastic. As it is, over the past 6 months I've lost only 2 pounds a month. That's the rate I lose at doing no exercise at all. Patience is the KEY to success. You WILL do it!

hollybelle on 12/01/2009:
I love what your grandpa said - routine. That's it. I've just been "winging it" for too long. I need to schedule exercise and make it routine.......
