(3 Simple Meals a Day)
Weight: 164.0

A quiet lazy Sunday physically but not mentally. I'm not doing any exercising today because I usually keep Sunday as a day of resting, but unfortunately, my mind is not at all at rest. I start a grad class tomorrow and that is on my mind. The course has some in class days but mostly it is done online. I always get very nervous about being able to keep up with everything. I usually have to read the syllabus 3 times to be sure I know what's going on for the course. This course is a 15 week course packed into 5 weeks. Fortunately, I have a friend who is taking the course also so we can keep each other on track :) I suppose I just need to sit down and make a schedule so I don't make excuses for not exercising for the next 5 weeks. I know that sounds dramatic, but it is easy for me to take a day and say "I don't feel like walking and since I have this reading to do....." and before you know it - the week will be passed and I will have done NO walking. OK - now that I have admitted to all of you how I can make excuses - I must take courage and go make that schedule ---in bold print I will put Walking/jogging - and I will remember my friend saying "I do this because I see the results!" I have to tell myself that taking the time to walk/jog is NOT taking time away from my schooling - instead it is making me stronger and that is the priority! My priority has to be my health - and heck - I can squeeze 1 hour out of my day to include a good hearty walk/jog. I must convince myself of that and I must make that schedule and follow it - one day at a time! Wish me luck -- thanks for letting me 'think outloud' :)

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 24 lbs to go!

A grad class? Sounds interesting! Wow! You're very inspiring to the rest of us about taking time out to get the exercise in! YAYYY!!! Have a wonderful day! ~Maria

thinnsidenotout on 07/06/2008:
I do it, because I have learned to TAKE time for "me" to better my health AND mind.... Even if you just walk 15 minutes in a super busy day, I bet you will feel more at ease and like you took some time out for yourself that you need to give to yourself.... at first I felt a bit guilty for being gone from home/family for 30 minutes (2 miles)..Goodness now that I ususally take 1.5 hours..that 30 minutes seems like a vapor and I don't feel guilty at all, cause I am giving myself the attention I need to better myself for my family...

DD is about "thinking outloud" and sure does help doesn't it?

Jen40 on 07/06/2008:
You go right ahead and think out loud, you're inspiring me to get off my own butt, cuz if you can do it with all you've got going on, then I can and should too!

WI3 on 07/07/2008:
Good for you on taking the grad class! Try to get some exercise in so that you can continue to feel good and release that stress! Have a wonderful day =)

sweetpea1977 on 07/07/2008:
Exercise is a great stress reliever, so be sure to reward yourself with it. Even if you cant get in the whole workout at one time, it will still do wonders for yourself mentally and physically. Plus, its actually better to perform few/several small bursts of energy expenditure throughout the day vs one long workout session! AND, the exercise breaks will keep you from dealing with your stress in an unhealthy way (binging, eating junk, etc).

Good luck with your class!

(3 Simple Meals a Day)
Weight: 164.0

Missed my entry for the 3rd and 4th of July. Have family (in laws) visiting so I don't get to escape to my computer for very long. I did not go walking yesterday b/c it was raining. Felt kind of bad but then I realized it's not a bad thing to have a one day break.

Went walking today with my 'gymboss'. Did 2.5 miles in 35 min. I think the added minute of jogging (3 min walking and 1 minute jogging) makes the trip go a little faster. And I do feel like I am getting stronger.

I went shopping with my mother in law today and was able to fit into a skort that was 2 sizes smaller. It wasn't a 'perfect fit' so I decided not to buy it, but I'm excited to see that my body is 'shaping' up even though the numbers on the scale aren't moving very much. I was glad I tried it on b/c we always go eat out at Hoss's when my in-laws visit and b/c I had such a good mood about the skort, I did an awesome job at NOT over eating at Hoss's. I had a small salad, some white fish and two pieces of bread with some frosting --yum. I drank water and had no desserts! All I need to do now is take my vitamines and my day will be complete :) !

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 24 lbs to go!

Jen40 on 07/05/2008:
About the salad recipe~ the veggies soften a little bit but are still what I call crunchy. I've made it before and put the veggies (broc. caul. carrots) in *almost* boiling water for 1 minute and immediately cooled them in cold water after. That might be what you need for people who don't want the crunch.

maria777 on 07/05/2008:
Wow! You are doing FANTASTIC!!! So happy for you! 2.5 miles in 35 min is fast walking/jogging! When you do a lot of regular exercising like that, even if the scale doesn't move, you will find that your sizes are getting smaller! That is a bonus to exercising regularly! Congratulations on your wonderful progress! You sure did real well at the eating out! Have a real good evening!

thinnsidenotout on 07/05/2008:
Great Day!..... C o N g R a T u L a T i O n S on the feeling worth being good, cause of seeing the results.... I have on a pair of underwear today (sorry if it is too much info, but....) that a few weeks back I could not stand to see myself in.....In a hurry this a.m...I put a pair of them on and when I had time to really look at them on me... I liked what I saw much better than before...My "donut" around the bottom protion of my tummy is shrinking...YEA!!!! That tells me that even though my numbers aren't going down as fast as I would like on those scales, that the walking IS making things get smaller and I am building muscle....This is the first time in all my times "downsizing" that I have exercised/walked and boy there sure is a difference in ALL body parts taking shape, even my face... When I have been current weight in the past, my face was so heavy and my "twin chin" was exactly that...This time, I actually like looking in the mirror and seeing "me" under all that "fat" that has been disappearing.... I guess I have rambled enough and shall end this..

Just know one thing!... You are doing terrific and I am so happy you are here!

selina on 07/06/2008:
great job on the exercise and eating! i also like mixing walking and jogging - it does make me feel stronger, too.

Jen40 on 07/06/2008:
Just a few more weeks and I bet that skort will be a perfect fit! I got out a denim skort and some capris today just to see if they fit. I'm not there yet, but I have a picture in my head of being able to fit them by August and I can't wait!

(3 Simple Meals a Day)
Weight: 164.0

Had a good morning - walked 3 mi. Then got home and played some badminton. Then the mail lady came and delivered my "Gymboss"! It's a simple little gadget and I couldn't wait until evening to try it out. It has two timers; one I set for 3 min and the other I set for 1 min. You can set it to alert you to the interval with a beep or a vibrate, I choose the beep since I am outside. The beep is at a good volume. I went to the park tonight and used my little 'electronic coach'. I walked 3 min then jogged 1 min and did that 4 X until I made it all the way around our park's 1.25 mile path. So it took me roughly 18 min to do the path. I was going to go around again, but my leg muscles were a little tight from including the jogging and I heard the words of my husband "don't overdue, build yourself gradually." Also, I go to the trainer tomorrow morning so I decided to stop. Anyway, the 'Gymboss' is fun and very easy to operate - not bad motivator for 19.99! Hopefully I'll use it often! Hope everyone is having a super day!

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 24 lbs to go!

Weight: 164.0

Well today was good and bad. I walked 3.0 mi in 43 min again - played some mean badminton with my son - hopped on the scale only to have it read 3 lbs higher. Honestly, I told myself not to hop on the scale until the end of the week but I couldn't resist. How depressing it is to see that I've gained. I'm trying not to be discouraged but it just doesn't make sense. I've been eating like a rabbit, walking everyday and drinking water for almost two weeks. My common sense keeps telling me that I've watched too many diet pill commercials and my expectations of dropping the weight fast and effortlessly are just too unrealistic - but at the same time I keep thinking - I'm working so hard at this why did I gain? I guess the best thing to do is totally ignore the scale's numbers and focus on how good I felt after walking and playing - being healthy and joyful with my family and if the weight falls off -- that's a bonus! (well, easy to say but hard to believe!)

Progress as of today: 6 lbs lost so far, only 24 lbs to go!

Jen40 on 07/01/2008:
Is it possible you've been building muscle? Wish I had the answer. I think with all you've been doing it's going to surprise you soon.

maria777 on 07/01/2008:
Your comment to my entry made me feel very happy...to know that someone else has been LIBERATED from frequent scale weighing...yayyyy! To 'HEAR' that you were going to spend time with your son outside and to hear how 'liberated' you felt made me feel so happy!

As to your entry, that 3 miles in 43 minutes is FANTASTIC!!! And like you said, being healthy and joyful with your family...that's what it's all about...not a number...I know I sure did get 'hung up on numbers again' to quote my Hubby's words...so true...and you know you've been doing everything right and the scale wants to show a big increase...do you know what happened? My scale went up 6 pounds overnite...I kid you not! So then I was really working hard (not eating enough) to try to get back to where I was for DAYS while the scale slowly went back down! How to you gain 6 pounds overnite??? I know it was mostly sodium but how long does it take for the extra sodium to leave? Cause it sure took a few days for sure! So...we need to be happy where we are at, not be a scale-slave, and eat enough to have the strength to enjoy the life the good Lord has given us. Love, Maria

thinnsidenotout on 07/01/2008:
Um, are you weighing in the morning, afternoon or night?...Believe it or not also, some have told me that I may not be eating enough to have my cody work off and it is trying to hang onto what is can.... There is a calculator that you can see your daily caloric intake to maintain your weight for your age, weight, height & activity level and I guess you decrease that intake by some calories to rid of pounds... I don't count calories, so I am sure that works against me sometimes....murraro is the one who knows that stuff....She also has the link to the calculator.....I can't do too much calculating or planning...I give up too easy that way....

Hang in there and NEVER EVER give up!....It may take some time to figure it all out..... I personally am a "Lord grant me patience.....and could I have that now please?" I sure have had to learn the hard way!

Good Evening!

This was a fun day today. Walked 3.0 miles in 43 minutes with D and chatted the entire time. I didn't get my heart rate up as high but that was ok b/c I had a meeting with the trainer. All I really needed was to warm up and get the blood flowing. I was nervous about meeting with the trainer because I wasn't sure how well I'd be able to lift and press b/c my strength is soo poor. I felt like I would look really stupid - but honestly, he was super. He walked me through each exercise machine and counted my reps and watched my heart rate. I guess he is what his title says "trainer". I made it through 15 exercises in a little over 1/2 hour. I'm not sore at the moment but I am expecting to feel it in a day or so.

RE: "I don't know why but when I reach a goal, I quit. Fall back into my old habits and the terrible cycle begins again. I can't seem to pin point why I am so quick to quit"

I too have been back at usual bad habits once reaching goals....BUT, it is not that I was giving up or quitting... It is that I felt I was immune to gaining the weight back ,cause it wasn't a sudden addage of the pounds. It was a slow & sneaky trap of being conplacent and feeling I deserved to reward my hard work with a "treat"...That is why I say this time it is a change of lifestyle & NOT a diet...Diets die & quickly fade once we get board with it...Lifestyle change of ANY things in moderation for me is key this time... It is something doable for the rest of my life... Occasionally you will see a Cheeseburger Meal on my menu or a Subway Sandwich, etc....I just choose to get a junior size or 6" instead of a Large Sized adult meal or footlong sub...It is good for the metabolism to switch it up and get it started again with the things it is not used to anymore....

Glad to hear that your walk was pleasant.... I hope to go another 2 miles this evening when the weather is a bit cooler...

Have a super evening!

actually yes, in the past i had MANY traniners because i paid to go to this gym that specializes in 1/2 hour personal training sessions, 3 times a week, for only $20 a session. It was a good deal, close to home, and i was always allowed to use cardio equipment on my own any day any amount of time.

I'm so excited, my friend D called tonight. She's been really under the weather and kept missing my call and didn't feel like walking. She's feeling a bit better now so we made plans to walk tomorrow morning. Yippee! :) I was so worried that she was down in the dumps, which she may have been to some degree, but because of the sickness. We will take it easy tomorrow so she warms up to the pace and hopefully by the end of the week she'll be better. I'm so glad to have my walking buddy back! (and look my font is blue!! thanks maria777)

thinnsidenotout on 06/29/2008:
To end the font color in a paragraph, you have to put , then you can change it to another color... and to start a new paragraph with another color you put
or or , etc....

Glad to hear your walking partner is better and you will have fun walking....

As far as the willpower to fight the urge to eat the wrong things, that will come int time when you have consecutive days behind or eating healthy choices, then seeing that waht you are doing is working in the reduction of the number on the scale... We have to ALL reach deep within and decide just how badly we want this... I wanted to be 40 pounds less by my 40th B.D. when I began DD on Jan 21st... I did not make that goal, but was so happy that I had given it the best chance I could have to get there...Now I have to continue on, cause to give up and stop caring just simply would not be fair to myself.. You have to decide that you ARE worth EVERY BIT of effort that you put into this to make yourself feel healthier & happier... I have been overweight all of my life and to be "155" again for the first time in 16 years is where I am headed hopefully by my 41st B.D...I am NOT going back to where I started ever again....I still eat cake, burgers, fries, pizza occasionally. Have not "tabooed" any foods, just adapted to moderation in everything & anything I eat...That is what seems doable for the rest of my life... You will find once you haven't had certain foods for a while, you just won't crave them anymore....Sometimes maybe, but it will not be habitual and you have to teach yourself discipline....

I look forward to seeing you reach any & ALL goals you set out to accomplish... I love doing "happy dances"

I agree with you comment on the people here. everyone is really supportive. Nobody judging. Other sites have peopl who are so tough to interact with. Form one of your previous posts: I don't know when walking becomes part of our daily lives. In my mind it is a way to get from one place to another just like swimming is a way to keep from drowning. I'm trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I can walk my way to my goal weight but it just hasn't set in yet.

I'm so excited. My hubby and youngest kids are back from a trip to Mexico where they served a week in an orphanage and in a teen homeless shelter. They did building projects, vacation bible school and anything they needed. Their big day was going to market and the movies.

They arrived at 3:15 this morning - rang the door bell and with one eye opened I let them in. I was kind of in a stooper for I had been really asleep - They were somewhat energetic, my 16yo daughter said, "I get the shower!" and then she was in bed...and in a few minutes the 14 yo son and the 13 yo daughter were cozy in their beds. My hubby was happy to be snuggled next to me. :)

PS - is there a simple instruction page on how to do the fun fonts and colors in your entries?

Well, I managed to go walking again. I cannot seem to just get up and walk -- I still debate with myself as to whether or not I should go - When will this become part of my natural life styled? I guess I should just accept that I'm not yet in the habit but I did go today and that is a good sign. I was going to walk in the evening - then I saw the calendar and I had evening plans - so I went -- I walked 2.5 miles in 35 minutes today. I walked and jogged and walked. My heart rate went up to 94 bpm. I didn't sustain that of course, i stustained at about 83. I found a really neat gadget that should add some fun to my walking. It's called a "gymboss". It times your intervals - for example if you set it to time 2 min for walking and 1 minute for jogging, it will vibrate or beep at the interval for you. It's like having a coach tell you what to do. I ordered it today - so I should have it by the end of the week or the beginning of next week.

I tried to call my friend D today. I've tried to call her all week and she doesn't reply. We were supposed to be walking buddies but she got sick and I think she just gave up. I also think she is not happy with me b/c I'm going to go to the trainer - I know she really wants to get in shape. She's lost 20 lbs so far on weight watchers - but I know she still wants to lose more. Well, I left her a friendly message tonight - hoping that I'll see her in church tomorrow and we can plan to walk on Monday. I hope I hear soon. I'll just assume she is very busy and she'll call when she's ready.

Well for the best news - my family is returning home from Mexico! They will arrive at the airport at midnight and head on their 2 hour trip home. Not sure if I'll be awake for them or not - but I"m sure I'll hear them when they get in. It will be nice to have everyone home again. The week went really fast!

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 25 lbs to go!

Jen40 on 06/28/2008:
I hope your friend calls soon. I have walking pals and it really does help me especially on days I don't feel like going, they motivate me to get out there.

thinnsidenotout on 06/28/2008:
RE: Cake & Frosting ~ You will find the longer you go without, when you do have the occasional piece for a B.D./Anniversary/Special Occasion that it tastes much better and you won't eat nearly as much, cause you are satisfied with less.... Then, if you are like me, your system will let you know that it is no longer used to the fats/sugars and may feel lethargic a bit the next day.... Our bodies WILL tell us when we are doing the right/wrong things once we get on a regime of healthy choices...

Have a wonderful day @ church tomorrow..We will be missing for the first time in a VERY LONG time tomorrow...Our son has a baseball game @ 11:15, plus they are installing a new pastor that we aren't quite sure is the right choice. Mixed emotions on things, but praying that we will be able to accept the decision that has been made and go forward in service for the Lord in this same church... I am greatly involved as the hostess, piano player & custodian...My hubby is a Sunday school teacher & our son is a guitar player....

Keep walking!. You will soon be missing it when you aren't able to go... I missed mine today and it has made me grumpy.....

Weight: 164.0

I started my plan just one week ago. I started out walking 2.5 miles in 1 hour and today I walked/jogged 2.5 miles in 40 minutes. I only wish the scale would show my efforts. I have a heart rate monitor which has inspired me as I walk. Seeing the number on the watch increase as I walk give me motivation to press on and walk more so I'm burning those calories. Again, I only wish the scale would show my efforts. Two days this week I almost gave up my walking. I have to convince myself that the exercise is most necessary if I am going to see any change in my body size. I have a friend who has been swimming for several years a couple times a week. I asked her what keeps her motivated to take the time out of the day to swim. Her answer was: "I was getting results." So I asked myself - with walking am I getting results? Well, the scale hasn't showed much, but my energy and muscles do feel good after a vigerous walking spree. My goal for next week will be to walk/jog 2.5 miles in 40 min then take the next 20 min to walk a cool down up to .5 miles totaling 3.0 miles in one hour. My only hope is that when I wake up in the morning I don't roll over and say "I'm too tiered to do this." Instead I must say - "I will do this....becasue I'm getting results.
