Exercise: 50 min running + 65 min elliptical (double hill); Weight Training: None; Calories: 1540 -- I had a yogurt snack last night.

Today I ran first before going to the gym. I did not want to watch today's Oprah, which I would be forced to do as the crosstrainers are right in front of 2 TV screens tuned in to her show at 9a. So I ran instead.

This was helpful on 2 levels. First of all, it forced me to change to my W/F/Su schedule NOW instead of waiting until Friday to do so. Secondly, because I ran first, I was able to go further (not much) than had I done it afterwards. However, several times during the run, I could feel myself slowing down considerably. But conversely there were times I sped up a lot as well (such as to avoid the landscaping guy with the mower).

Going to the gym afterwards was interesting. It was almost empty. By the time I left, there was one older woman doing the weight machines and that was it! Towards the locker rooms, there were 2 elderly gentlemen stretching. I thought it would be hard to motivate myself to go to the gym after already running, but it was not so bad. I had new music to listen to, so that really helped.

One thing I did notice when I was at the gym is why do I feel the need to do 2 workouts? It seemed a little ridiculous to me. I know why I did today, because I am involved in an online challenge that counts the minutes that participants exercise for the month of September. And we've done that challenge here too, before, and it didn't bother me. But today it bothered me. I think it would have been more beneficial to do weight training at the gym instead of the elliptical, but I'm not ready to give up that addiction yet. I feel incomplete if I do not do my daily elliptical. But on the other hand, I'm feeling uneasy about the direction I could be headed.

Which leads me to say that I am already getting nervous about this week's weigh in. I lost 3lb last week, and I do not want to gain that back. "135" is one of those "set-points" where my body is comfortable. So if I slide back up, I will have to work on breaking through the same plateau AGAIN. Don't want to do that!!

I have found that i definitely have some "set points" were my body is comfortable as well. Even if i eat really large amounts, with a few good days, i'm back to that set point...but not lower, where i'd like to be.

i feel that gaining lean muscle, which means you are better fit and can burn more calories, helps with breaking through your set point.

Your having to dodge the mower guy reminded me of the time on a jog a few years ago someone in a pickup truck ran over a toad and some of the juice landed on my brand new shoes--double ick!

A number of things did not happen to make my run as good as it could have been: 1. The weather did not cool off, because it did not rain as they had promised. 2. The humidity did not dissipate as promised. 3. I forgot today was Garbage Day and the smells were quite awful. 4. My stomach still felt bloated and sour from last night's dinner (way too oily/fatty).

Hopefully Thursday's run will be much better. I am thinking of switching to a W/F/Su running schedule, since Mondays and Tuesdays are not good (landscapers, garbage men).

Progress as of today: 11.5 lbs lost so far, only 2.5 lbs to go!

gosh, what was for dinner? you never usually complain about what you eat - that's why i ask! i'm sure the next garbage day will be around soon! :)

i think i might need a break from exercise today as my body is still tired...but not really achey...from the substantial exercise it's been getting. I believe that our bodies do need to rest sometimes...don't we all!?

Exercise: 65 min crosstrainer + 30 min cleaning the bathroom; Weight training: 35 min upper/lower body (machines); Calories: 1680

No running today. It was too hot and too sunny out this morning after the gym, and I wanted to get in a little cleaning (as I promised you) before I have to leave for the old house to put out more moldy/mildew-y garbage for the garbage collection tomorrow. UGH -- driving up to the old house consumes too much of my time!

But I discovered that anytime I want a little extra workout, all I have to do is get on my hands and knees and clean a floor or a bathroom. The floors and baseboard trim are filthy and so I did not complete the one bathroom I was working on. I cleaned the outside of the toilet, the floors and the baseboard trim. I still have to do the vanity and the tub surfaces.

Then I still have 2 more bathrooms to clean, although one is just a powder room (toilet and vanity sink). So I have additional "activity" just waiting for me around the house. I hope to do a little (30 min) at a time and after a week, everything should be clean.

Hard cleaning really gives a good workout!

EVENING EDIT: Just too darn busy! It is so humid here today. Unbearable...

Still trying to hang in there over the weekend. I am feeling anxious this morning. I am pretty sure it is because I did not go to the gym like I had planned on doing. I was very tired, after 2 nights of not much sleep. I will see if it will be feasible for me to workout when Husband comes home from work.

Otherwise, it's a day of cleaning for me. Scrubbing down the bathrooms and then I have some vines to trim outside.

EVENING EDIT: I did the trimming of the vines outside. Ouch, my arms were actually trembling afterwards. I definitely need to step up my upper body weight training. What a whimpy. I did NOT get to the bathrooms, despite all of the encouragement from the rest of you. So I will be doing that tomorrow, I promise!

I also have housework to do today...and the chore I don't like the most which is the bathroom lol. I hope you get to do your workout today! Oh, the boiled kale....I buy fresh kale and pull the leaves away from the stem and put them in bite size pieces, and then put them in the boiling water for about 5 minutes...then I spray a pan with cooking spray (butter flavored if I have it) and fry it up for about five minutes with some onion or mushroom (or both). The boiling takes away that starchy aftertaste and the frying helps crisp it back up. I also LOVE to fry it up and then put it in salads because it has such a great texture with the other lettuce. i also feel bad too when i don't workout when i'm suppose to, but we can only do so much. you should still be proud of all the stuff u do to lose weight =)you're also doing cleaning, and thats somewhat like an exercise. you have to exert some energy to clean. hopefully you're day turns out better.

Give yourself credit for the workout you had, I consider cleaning house and yardwork a workout. Better than sitting in front of the tv all day, which I have been known to do. Be good to yourself, pamper yourself...your inner discipline will return faster when you are not so hard on yourself.

Exercise: None (Day of Rest - ha ha); Weight training: None; Calories: 1870 (I caved and had a dish of ice cream).

Today is supposed to be my rest day, yet I am exhausted after a day full of errands. I didn't get that much accomplished either. At least it feels that way.

Took the kids to the library and spent too much time there browsing. Went shopping at Target for much needed things including batteries. At 2:30a the smoke detector decided it had had enough of its battery and started beeping every 3 minutes. My Husband - God love him - says, "All you have to do is take the battery out." Oh YEAH??? I told him I was too short and that HE"D have to get OUT OF BED and take care of it. After all, I got zilcho sleep the night before.

Anyway, if you wish to read about my shopping excursion, please read my comments to Shadetree here on Diet Diaries.

Come home and make lunch, which we didn't eat until 2p! Cleaned up from that, then decided to wash my car and do a little weeding. So it HAS been an active day.

One thing I'm *tickled* about is that I bought new insoles for my gym shoes. Lately, they've been feeling a bit flat, and to extend the life of my shoes (because I like to save $$ on shoes), I replace the insoles once or twice before I stop wearing a shoe for workouts. So I am REALLY looking forward to my next gym workout with new bouncy insoles in my shoes :-)

But on a more serious note, I am trying really hard to stay on track this weekend. Really really really want to reach my goal weight soon. So badly I can taste it.

hey!!! Those insoles work wonders! I bought them for my shoes as well. the good thing is that the ones i bought can be used for dress shoes/work shoes too!! So, when i needed to wear fancy shoes yesterday, i put the insoles inside and it was soooo much easier to walk around! :)

haha, now they're back in my sneakers! :)

Go ahead and look at that weight! :-) Lost 3lbs! YAY!!!! I couldn't believe it, I had to weigh myself twice.

Since some of us have become quite "personal" with details, let me just say I was particularly pleased to have my Daily Donkey Dump occur before the weigh in, as opposed to after my first cup of coffee.

You see, I have been awake since 2a when the cats knocked down a dish downstairs. It was then that I realized that I had forgotten to clear all of the table after dinner last night! I had to throw out marinara, pasta, 2 beautiful chicken breasts -- Ugh, broke my heart :-( I think that I so dread washing dishes at night --- especially when I have labored to fix the dinner as well, that I just forgot to clear away the rest of the dinner. Throwing away that chicken made me mad.

So after cleaning up the mess and returning to bed at 2:33a, I could not get back to sleep. I tossed and turned until 4:49a. I must have dozed off right about then because when Husband's alarm clock went off at 5:15a, I was in the middle of a terrible dream (any dream about mass transit public transportation canNOT be good). Then Husband announces that he needs money. So I had to drag my Donkey out of bed anyway. I figured I might as well stay up.

Apparently, smelling coffee has the same affect as drinking coffee, as far as "personal" details are concerned. Took a little longer for it to come about, but when I weighed in this morning, I was pretty much empty.

For today: I can foresee that today is going to be a HOT HOT HOT day. So I am taking my running shoes and an extra shirt to the gym with me. I will run on the treadmill today, after I do the elliptical. No excuses not to run today!!!

ba ha ha ha, daily donkey dump....I LOVE IT !! thanks for the morning laugh. When I compulsively weighed myself (long time ago) I would always do it after my daily dump as well, I figured it was good for a pound or two.

sorry about the lack of sleep. For some reason, the same thing has happened with me this week!!! One day i couldn't sleep...and the next day, my sister woke me up! it was her bday and she went out, getting home around 3am. She was really loud and kept the door in the bathroom open while the light was on and stuff like that. arg! i hope your house is back to normal and your cats aren't being any more trouble to you! :)

Hopefully they will have sufficient towels at the gym today. Tuesday, the gym was too hot (AC not working properly). Wednesday, they ran out of towels. I wonder what today (Thursday) will bring...

AFTERNOON EDIT: I am thoroughly frustrated. We're stuck with this house that won't sell, so I wanted to take a class at the community college about becoming a landlord. I'm all set and registered and ready to go. Husband calls me from work to say that he does NOT have Saturday off of work even though he was told that it would be OK.

I cannot tell you how many times this happens. We make plans and get all excited and then Husband has to work, and everything needs to be canceled or rearranged. Such as TONIGHT, which is one of the busiest nights, because the kids have martial arts and son has Chess Club at the library. We're on the go from 4p until 8p.

But Husband calls up and says he has to work mandatory overtime tonight. So everything needs to get rearranged. I tell you, when I got off the phone with him, I just wanted to dive into that package of Oreo cookies in the pantry. Donkey will not do this, but she really wanted to.

No chance of watching Survivor -- I live for that show -- and the cliffhanger of CSI tonight either. I don't ask much out of life, but these are 2 shows that I really really REALLY enjoy. 2 hours out of the week is all I ask. But this week I don't get them. :-(

Tomorrow is weigh-in day! I will remember this, so that I stay away from Oreos and ice cream (together or separately).

Woman you crack me up!!! Actually I have 2 girls of my own (now 11 & 15) plus we have 5 cats!! =0) (and 3 dogs, a turtle and a frog at last count...Christmas is coming, maybe we'll ask Santa for a partridge and a pear tree!!!)

The detox has had no big change on me, aside from my depositing a few more times a day (as of 1:16 today I'm up to 2) but I would have probably peed during that trip to the bathroom anyway!! Just a few more minutes to sit and read! =0)

the person i assist at work always reminds me that she may work really hard...but when things get tough, she just laughs and takes everything lightly. that's what she said to me. and you know, IT WORKS. she is a good person...and she's rubbing off on me, in a GOOD way. I'm lucky to work with her.

Thanks for your comment on my picture. Yes, I have thought before that we seem to be similar in many ways. The funny thing is that I do actually wear quite a bit of make-up on a daily basis compared to people here. I used to have really severe cystic acne as a teenager, so I wear foundation to cover up the scars. And I never leave the house without eye-liner. And yet these girls in Pakistan are always so dolled up! Eye shadow, mascara, rouge - the works!! And I don't see how people manage to keep their hair so immaculate. Mine is always messy.

The ice cream happened after I returned home from "Curriculum Night" at the kids' schools. That's where the teachers basically outline what they will be covering over the year. It's a good idea because it lets you know if they are trying something new or what to do if your child is struggling in a particular area.

I met one of my son's classmates, and she said, "Oh he's being bullied on the school bus." Great. So of course, I was in high anxiety by the time I got home. I was so tired and I was low on calories so I knew a dish of ice cream was in my future anyway (I had planned this). Unfortunately, I did not plan on eating as much ice cream as I did (~2 cups?).

I compensated by drinking another 4 glasses of water. It was hot and humid; I was thirsty anyway (which is probably why I ate so much ice cream). I thought the next day (today) was weigh in day, but then I realized that I was ahead by one day. So I have a day to work through the ice cream before weighing in. :-/

I am so busy, I have very little time for a good entry. The gym was so HOT today. Ugh, if it continues to be that hot when I go at 9a, I will start going super duper early when it is cooler out (and still dark).

Now I must listen to my son read a story and answer the questions at the end of the story. UGH!!! I so want to dive into a big dish of ice cream....

Hi Donkey! It's great to catch up with you! I'm glad to see you're doing so well. Running 6 miles is tremendous! I think that's a great distance. I've made that my "long" distance as well. I used to run up to 12 miles on the weekends when I was training for half-marathons, but I think that at some point, the extra mileage seems to do more harm than good. I was always really tired and hungry and I always ran really slowly because I was afraid that if I expended too much energy I wouldn't be able to finish. Whereas 6 miles is long enough to really work your endurance but not so long that you need several days to recover!

And you shouldn't put much stock in your husband commenting that you look "slow". When I watch long distance runners on T.V. they always look relatively slow to me. I mean, they look like they're running at about the same speed as me, whereas they're actually running 5 minute miles or something even more ludicrous. So sometimes it's just hard to judge people's speed, especially when they're running at an even pace. The fact that you seemed slow to your husband probably just means you have good form.

Well, good luck in your quest for "skinny runner's legs"! I must say, I hope you have better luck than I do because while my thighs seem a lot slimmer (and less cottage-cheesy!) to me, my calves are still as thick as ever. Must be genetic...

While I was on the crosstrainer this morning, I came to the realization that I probably need to cut back on my time on the crosstrainer and increase the resistance. I will do this when September is over, because I am doing an online "minutes" challenge for this month. So cutting back on minutes now would not be good for that. I can hardly wait until September is over so I can leave that online group.

That way, with less time on the crosstrainer, hopefully I will have more time and energy for running, although the weather will probably be too cold to run outside comfortably by then. Oh the ironies of life. With the increased resistance, and the increased running, I should have some great looking legs soon enough!

I guess its always nice to do things that involve the support of others - like your september group. i always like added motivation, especially online. you see, i don't like competing against people i know or feeling like i'm in competition with friends that i know and see. I'd rather be online in that case.

so, no worries, stick to your sept plan and now you know what'll be come october! and, it's almost here!!!

oh, i know this eating is CRAZY. i'm beyond happy that today went well!

You are an example to us all Donkey, and a great support too. If you have to cover up for the winter, imagine how great your legs will be next spring when they are back out in the sunshine :o)
