(Reduction of processed carbs & wishful exercise)
Weight: 128.0

I had no time to write yesterday.  Yesterday was a good day, I think, but everything ran later than it was supposed to.  Then, after dinner,  I watched British/Australian mysteries on PBS.  I love those types of mystery shows from the UK, etc.  But when I got done -- after nearly 3 hours of watching TV, I was kind of disgusted with myself for being so inactive.  It is not like me - even at work - to be so sedintary.  I did not like that feeling one bit.

Today was a good day, eating-wise, exercise-wise...  Skipped the decaf coffee (too hot in the house) but did buckle down and have some dark chocolate chips.  I didn't count, but it looked to be about 16 (which is 80 calories).  It did the trick.  What I really want is that frozen cake out in the freezer that's been haunting me all week.

Again, I do not anticipate a favorable weigh-in this week.  I am debating as to whether to start the amino acid experiment tomorrow, or if I should wait until my birthday at the end of July, as a "this is my year" project.  (Every year, and every New Year, I say, This is My Year --- but all the years seem to be the same, except for the REALLY BAD years... Those seem to be the only exceptional years I've had.)

Progress as of today: 58.5 lbs lost so far, only -8.5 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/17/2018:
but it IS YOUR YEAR! you are maintaining and doing a great job. it gets harder and harder to see or gain progress, the more fit people get. you are obviously more fit than your heavier days (as am i!). it's harder to make good choices when you have already improved on it to a degree. :)

you've got this. i see no issue with watching tv. tonight i am going to watch a movie :) The Color Purple, i like to borrow movies from the library! :)

you may want to consider iced decaf? basically i think you make it the same way?...although you may want to google some tricks as to how to make it best at home and not taste watery from extra ice added.???

keep up the great work!!! really!!!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/17/2018:
oh, you are tempting me to think of a better resource besides plain water when i do my long gym sessions. i may begin to supplement with something...after i do research.

Another very good day.  Work as slowed down a tad -- which is not a good thing for business but super great for my sanity.  We should be super busy, but I still have more than enough files to keep me busy, and I'm getting caught up on other non-file things for the office.

Eating was good.  Tonight at dinner, I had siracha hot sauce on my vegetables and chicken.  For the drinking-water-during-dinner challenge, I tried something different tonight, to see if it would work.  I had a 12 ounce can of flavored sparking/seltzer water -- La Croix (bought on sale) cranberry flavor -- on ice.  This was very easily consumed during dinner -- maybe it was the flavor, maybe it was the bubbles, maybe it was the hot sauce!  Since seltzer water costs money, though, I don't want to rely on this for a habit.  Tomorrow, I will go back to ice water I think.

I finished my decaf coffee and the last of the 3 (not 2 as previously counted) dark chocolate chips.  I'm done eating for the night.

My amino acids came today while I was at work!  My husband opened up the package and put the bottle on my dinner plate so I would see them -- aww!  These are huge honkin' pills, though!  The instructions are to take 4 daily, preferrably with juice.  Well, I don't have juice, so it will be water -- taken after workouts and between meals.

So now I just need a start date.  Maybe this Saturday, after weigh-in.

Progress as of today: 58.5 lbs lost so far, only -8.5 lbs to go!

YES - i don't like the fat free fage but i do like the 2% or higher fats. they are more satisfying :)

siracha is so helpful but for some reason it dampens my appetite too much to enjoy the food..

your decaf coffee sounds great!

thoughtful of your hubby to put the aminos out for you to see, sweetie! :)

Yesterday when I woke up, I was pleased to see that someone had eaten some of the graduation cake that's been calling my name from the freezer in the garage.  I had hoped that whoever had that piece of cake would have finished it, but alas, there is still some cake left.  (I promptly checked before I left for work yesterday.)

This morning, I woke up, hoping to see that the cake had been finished, but instead, someone finished the ice cream from the celebration. The remaining piece of cake is a corner piece with LOTS of frosting -- my favorite...

I remembered last night that I haven't incorporated hot sauce into my meals as I had wanted to at the suggestion of a fellow DD'er.  The bottle is on the table always; it just hasn't become a habit.  I hope that I remember to add the sauce to tonight's dinner.

Also last night, I thought about adding a 10-minute session on the new exercise bike (the one with REAL resistance) in the evenings.  Instead, I went upstairs, took a shower, and got ready for bed.  Went to bed nice and early at around 9:15p, but this is the SECOND night in a row -- or should I say MORNING (!!!) -- that the cat has woken me up with her spitting spat at a visitor on our deck.  So I was up at 2:10am rarin' to go.... Tooled on Facebook until about 3am but still couldn't go back to sleep.  Of course, when the alarm clock went off at 5:15a, 5:30a, and 5:45a, I was exhausted.

Stupid cat...

horn_of_plenty on 06/13/2018:
hi lady, i commented on yesterday's entry too.

btw, you inspire me to eat towards greater health. i'll be ending my whip cream kick soon. and also may switch to fruit and greek yogurt and get off the ice cream purchasing! :) so not healthy and what i do now is so inflammatory...

my guess is your hubby ate it??

yeah, hot sauce works for me too as well as other condiments / spices like pepper....lately garlic drives me NUTS bc i put too much on and then i want something else to get rid of the garlic flavor..

it's so hard to change exercise routines...like you say you thought of adding 10 minutes on the new bike. but truth is, in order to change, it is usually uncomfortable and we have to learn to make it comfortable and not be so against the change...i've been still struggling to add a jog midweek, but partially bc i'm taking a class one night a week too and refuse to skip gym sessions lol which are long enough and do not need jogging too...so...Friday i'm biting the bullet and making sure to jog after work (and not go right home).

more the reason for me to take off the last friday of June, if i'm struggling still to add in a jog...i have to find a way to improve and fit it into my schedule..

some days i think i should just go dating and try to find a $$ man to marry...then i could work any job..and not worry about money!!!!!!!!!!! i am still not there yet though...and still wanting to one day jog again fully and become court officer tho lately the logical side of me says it's not happening (as i'm 35 turning 36 in september and i am starting to doubt how much i can improve...however, i will not be buying wasted calorie food with no health value whipped cream anymore!..and will take a break from ice cream and switch to healthier yogurt and fruit for awhile...and see how i feel then.

Donkey on 06/13/2018:
I highly recommend the Fage yogurt that Bear has for breakfast on occasion. She gets the fat free, but I got the 4% milkfat one a while back - that stuff will fill you fast.

An observation/question: one reason why I don't eat sugar-free gelatin any more is because it seems to be a trigger for wanting more sweet. I'm wondering if the same could be said for your situation.... Anyway, even though more calories, I much more recommend Fage Greek yogurt -- fat free or full fat -- rather than the Cool Whip. I bet it's fantastic with jello.... Or fruit.... or plain/stevia.

Donkey on 06/13/2018:
I think my daughter ate the cake... She comes home late from work. Or possibly my son.

horn_of_plenty on 06/13/2018:

bearcountrygg on 06/13/2018:
Geez....between cats and cake ...you just can't win!!!! Feed the cake to the cat????

Donkey on 06/13/2018:
I think kitty needs to stay with my daughter until my daughter goes to sleep. She's a night owl. If kitty would do this at 4am, I would just stay up and get an early start.

happy-1 on 06/13/2018:
NOW I remember why I'm hungry even though I have eaten all my meals. No hot sauce. I once visited relatives who don't eat hot sauce and I went into withdrawal... Now I stockpile hot sauce packets like a hoarder.

Can I buy your cat as living alarm clock? I get out of bed before my dog even bothers getting up.

Donkey on 06/13/2018:
I guess this is one more reason why dogs are better than cats. Sorry, but this one's not for sale (LOL) -- she's super attached to my daughter. Now after my daughter moves out.... ;-)

Today was a good day.  Good at work.  Nice dinner with the family -- but only got in 1 glass of water for my drinking-water challenge.  No worries. I will still be drinking more water tonight.

I'm done with my decaf coffee, so I'll stop eating out of the 16 dark chocolate chip stash that I had from yesterday.  I have 2 chips left, but I have no reason to finish them because I'm done with my coffee and satisfied.  They can wait for tomorrow.

Hoping for an early bedtime tonight....

horn_of_plenty on 06/13/2018:
i have heard very good things on amino acids for exercise gains. i used to take some, i do think perhaps they did help. i stopped bc i just didn't stick with it...perhaps the ones i bought were very artificial tasting...like this sugar free cherry flavor lol, so i guess i didn't buy it after having it...and it could also be i didn't want to stick to the habit of taking them...but i do think they worked..it was a powder supplement to add to any drink like water.

sounds like you are satisfied for today...very good job! i'm due for an early bedtime tonight too.

(Reduction of processed carbs & wishful exercise)
Weight: 128.0

Only managed 1.5 cups of water during dinner tonight.  I had finished most of my meal by the time I refilled on my water cup.  Still, I'm finishing up the 2nd cup of water, and it seems to be helping me avoid finishing the remaining  dark chocolate chips of the 16-count I grabbed.

I have a Facebook friend - who I met on Sparkpeople.com originally - who lost a LOT of weight using Advocare products.  She has since regained all of the weight back, due to unfortunate circumstances in her life that caused her not to be able to afford the Advocare system any more, plus the emotional distress of her circumstances, of her Advocare "friends" dropping her once she no longer bought the products, all caused her to revert back to emotional eating.

I have another Facebook friend who sells Advocare and is trying to get her home business started, but has not had much luck with that -- just as she has not had consistent success with losing weight, with Advocare or otherwise.  So it's kind of like I want to support her home business... but on the other hand, she's not really into working the program (which kind of dampens any enthusiasm I might have for trying it) and, more truthfully, Advocare is VERY expensive.

So I've been trying to do the Advocare system on a budget, with cheaper substitutes.  I asked my first FB friend what products she felt really worked for her, and she said Spark and Catalyst.

I found a very good substitute for Spark - for much cheaper and much better tasting at Walmart!  Now I have found a substitute for Catalyst, which is an amino acid supplement, which I'm waiting to arrive from Amazon.  So once that gets here, I'll pick a start date, and we'll see if it was worth the $20 for a 90 day supply.

So in 3 months, I could be one heck of a muscle babe - on a budget, LOL...  Not really, but I would love it if I could be a little leaner.

Progress as of today: 58.5 lbs lost so far, only -8.5 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 06/11/2018:
I've seen the behind the scenes of mlm companies for weightoss. I peomise you you are capable of doing this without them. If you really want a business to help you lose weight we can start a blog together for losing weight while saving money and publish coupon sale price matchups, and run ads alongside. Much more likely to earn revenue, sustainable, and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Donkey on 06/12/2018:
I guess I just want to prove to myself that I can do this without having to become an Advocare groupie. And seeing what it's like with the 2 Facebook friends I have -- it's almost a love-hate thing I have with Advocare. I don't know if I'm jealous or resentful or what. I DO know that what they did to my one friend - the one who gained it all back - was NOT NICE, and for that ALONE, I would never use their products.

But you're right, I've essentially done most of the work already, by myself.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/12/2018:
Well, i've heard good things about supplements and all the major bodybuilders take em...so let us know how it's going so we can try it thru you!!

also, like happy says, we are always here for you. this is always support enough for me, people wise.

Donkey on 06/12/2018:

So after that successful work during the week, I went ahead and had dinner out with my husband.  Not only did not make the best choices (onion rings instead of fresh fruit), and not only did I eat most of what was on my plate, but I also had a scoop of peppermint ice cream for dessert!  UGH what came over me?   DANG IT....

Right now:  cool, cloudy, feels like we'll get more rain today, but it is not currently raining.  Another unstructured day...  I might go for a walk, especially if it remains cloudy like this.

It continued to sprinkle on and off, so the walk never materialized.  That's OK.  It's hard for me to slow down, but on Sunday afternoons, I watch old British & Australian mysteries on PBS, which I find very enjoyable and relaxing.

My daughter finished up my leftover onion rings.

I feel that I did better with food today, but when I went to the freezer in the garage to get a big bag of frozen vegetables, I noticed that there is still graduation cake leftover.  1 really big piece or 2 medium pieces, or one small corner piece and then 2 smaller regular pieces.

I guess I've really thought through that cake- LOL!  Anyway, I really want that corner piece, so I'm having decaf coffee with the chocolate flavored creamer, and 16 dark chocolate chips (80 calories).  After I finish typing this up, I'm going upstairs for the nighit.

Progress as of today: 58.5 lbs lost so far, only -8.5 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 06/10/2018:
It's okay....you are maintaining...and that allows some goodies too.....then if you seriously diet other days......you will drop a bit...and then you can eat what you want again....you are good....

Donkey on 06/11/2018:
Thank you - this was very helpful to hear. I second-guess myself a lot!

horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2018:
I do agree with BCGG...maintenance does allow some treats. I'm learning this too- still i'm learning as i'm generally a very all or nothing type of person...

Yesterday the bridal shower did have cake - it wasn't too good actually! and the coffee was GREAT...i wish it came earlier but it hit the spot!

The woman i was sitting with has one kid that's 4 1/2 and also a baby 9 month old girl. She already lost practically all her pregnancy weight. This girl is a picky eating who eats plain foods. She's not into fancy food or anything and doesn't eat a lot of greasy food or fried things. She's healthy. maybe doesn't eat enough fat. but, she's also a very mindful eater. She doesn't binge or ever had a food problem to my knowledge. she enjoyed trying bites of the desserts and was able to take just a moderate amount of food from the buffet and didn't even think to have to clear her plate. me on the other hand, i took tons of veggies, but also some treats of fried potato stuff and ravioli (just small amounts of all the treat foods) but i ate to finish so even though she ate tastes of everything her servings were probably smaller and my calories (despite a lot of healthy food) may have come out higher...ok...

so my point is that mindful eating and eating in moderation is always best for weight loss.too bad i like to eat to being full full! lol.

i'm glad you enjoyed one scoop. that's a good size. and an onion rings side with a meal is not necessarily the worst thing. what did you eat with the onion rings??

also, wonderful snack at home! the coffee and choc chips...

also, i think i'm done with my huge servings of whipped cream. it's so over the top...so unhealthy. i'm going to try to cut my portions a little bit at night...lol. we'll see.

Donkey on 06/11/2018:
I had what was essentially a chicken gyro sandwich with the onion rings. Also a cup of chicken noodle soup. I saw the lady across from me got the fruit plate side dish (instead of the onion rings) and I should have gotten that. There was a LOT of beautiful fruit.

My mom used fat free Cool Whip to help her in her weight loss journey. She would freeze it and then eat it like ice cream. I personally do not care for the taste of Cool Whip. It's just my biology -- I would love to have something like that, that I could use as a dessert crutch.

happy-1 on 06/11/2018:
You get treats. Tells your body there's no famine... but I dunno I'd want old cake, lol.

Donkey on 06/11/2018:
LOL on the old cake. You know -- I hadn't thought of it as "old cake"... I'm still thinking of it as "graduation party cake", but your observation is more accurate: Old Cake. Do I want Old Cake? Really? Hmm...

At the lower end of the maintenance range this morning -- take THAT, darn title company donuts!  (LOL...)

I feel that it's important for Logical Donkey to remind myself that this is maintenance.  I find that this helps keep a practical, manageable perspective.  (Crazy Donkey does not have a healthy perspective on numbers.)  It would be nice to be able to stay at the lowoer end of my maintenance range, but during the cold and dark season here in Illinois, it gets much more difficult.  Throw the holidays in there, and the slippery slope into winter weight begins.

So what changed this week?  I had a couple of days during the week where I had a lower caloric intake -- more vegetables.  I also had a couple of extra walks in the evening, so my step counts were higher a couple of days.

My drinking-water-during-dinner challenge seems to have dwindled down to 1 cup of water during dinner.  I would like this to change back to 2 glasses:  this will be my goal this week.  I do make a point of drinking water on my drive home, so that when I get home and sit down to dinner (which is usually within 10 minutes of getting home), and then I continue to drink water after dinner.

Another thing I've been thinking of changing up is the decaf coffee (with flavored chocolate creamer) I have after dinner.  I'm wondering if a flavored tea wouldn't be more satisfying with less calories.  I have a cranberry vanilla tea that might hit the spot to satisfy that "after dinner sweet" craving that has been quite persistent.

Progress as of today: 58.5 lbs lost so far, only -8.5 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/09/2018:
the tea is a good idea some days after dinner. though the chocolate coffee sounds outright amazing and what a good idea for after dinner treat!

The day before weigh-in and the title company rep comes in with a bunch of bowls of fresh fruit, boxes of cookies and donuts.  ****

So while I did not gorge on the fruit - like I did last time, which resulted in my face breaking out AND a weight gain - I still had 2 bowls of fruit... and then I did a little more nibbling after that.

Did well at dinner --- really wanted 2nd helpings but didn't -- but ran out of decaf coffee, so had only 1/2 a cup... and 18 dark chocolate chips.

I'm afraid this isn't going to be a good weigh-in for me this week.  Gosh, blast it all!

I didn't have much to say yesterday.  Work went much better -- I must continue to remind myself of the personal boundaries required for my work efficiency.  Gonna work hard at that.

Leaving at 5:30p-ish really does me well.  Gives me enough time to get in an evening walk.  I needed that yesterday; came home for lunch instead of walking, due to storms.  Coming home for lunch also screwed up my eating.  I'm not sure if I ate enough yesterday, but I just wasn't hungry.

Today was a MUCH better day.

I ran yesterday's scenario past my Male Co-Worker this morning -- not that I trust him, but because I think he has the most objective perspective and insights that I find really helpful.

He mentioned that this co-worker assistant is a Drama Queen.  Her whole life is drama.  There is ALWAYS something going on in her life that is bad/sad news.   And whether it's intentional or not, she draws drama into the workplace.  "She stirs things up" were his exact words.

This was SO HELPFUL.  Once I realized that this is part of who she is and what she does - intentional or not -  I realized that I have it within my own personal power NOT to allow myself to get drawn into her drama.  So I did a few things:

  • I spoke to my boss, because if this happens again, I want him to be aware of this pattern.  I let him know that I didn't expect him to have a solution.  I wasn't sure if this was a complaint or just a vent, but now he knows.
  • I spoke to the assistant attorney and explained that the documents that were supposed to be completed yesterday couldn't be completed, because we're missing data.  I told him, As soon as the data comes in from the title company, DQ is more than welcome to prepare the documents.
  • So I approach DQ and let her know that we have what we need to prepare the documents, and she starts going down the path of "oh I can't do that because you said I couldn't" -- how old are we really?  I mentioned very calmly that I spoke to the assistant attorney, and we have what we need so please feel free to proceed as you wanted.  Then she seemed to be OK with it, mainly because I think I said that this is what SHE WANTED.  (LOL)

My lunch walk was shorter today because I took lunch very late.  Why do people think that lunchtime is a good time to call me?  Hello, it's my lunchtime!  But during my walk, all I could think about was Horn's GOOD advice:  KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AT WORK.  Yes, and to this I want to add, for myself:  STAY OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S DRAMAS.

My eating was on track today for the most part.  At around 3:30pm, I wanted to go into the breakroom and snatch a few chocolate covered almonds, but couldn't because the downstairs clinic was having a staff meeting.  This right there saved me probably 250 calories.

I left work at 5:30p which allowed me the time to take a walk after dinner, to make up for the short walk at lunch.  So nice!

Now that my work issues are resolved - for now - I hope that I sleep better tonight.  I haven't been sleeping as well the past 2 nights, and I do feel it.

That gal you talk about reminds me of 4 people I know...who are bipolar. They ALL act exactly the same.......things are catastrophic...HUGE plans...EARTH shaking...NO ONE LOVES Me...NO one listens to ME....I have the POWER!!!!!.Threats to hurt people..and then they all calm down...and become perfectly sane...for awhile...until their next manic episode. My guess is that your coworker is bipolar.

horn_of_plenty on 06/06/2018:
your entry made me smile...i have more to add later...just catching up myself at work this AM but wanted to say hello and that i'm glad my advice worked. lately, i'm needing a reminder to shut my mouth too...as i'm in a new office and don't know the people that well yet...so better i observe than talk or say something wrong...which i do always, i have a tendency to speak without thinking of the consequences...so for me being quiet is just better too...there is so much drama in my office you wouldn't believe. i'll maybe write about it when i have more free time.

innerpeace on 06/06/2018:
We have people like that too. I always just think they feel they need to be the center of attention and want everyone in their business to make them feel important.

legcramps on 06/06/2018:
LOL! Great post. I work with drama-stirrers too. They work me up when I let them; I have to always be aware of how the behavior of those around me impacts me, and decide whether to "buy in" to their balogne or not let it affect my day. Sometimes, the latter choice is a difficult one to make, especially when you know they are just spouting bad news. Chin up!
