(Vegetarian South Beach Diet)
Weight: 137.0

It was a busy day for me, running errands like crazy and making moving preparations. I had to wake up early to workout at the gym at 6a. I've GOT to get moving on this packing (no pun intended)...

I wanted to thank everyone who has given me positive feedback about my vegetarian choices! Lately I've been wondering if I'm doing the right thing (for me) and if I should go back to eating meat, even though I really don't want to. The encouragement given for the vegetables is wonderful :)

Pre-workout snack - 1/4 oz almonds

Lunch - 1/2 vegetarian sandwich (lots of cheese, mayo, avocado) --- why is it that restaurants think that anything vegetarian needs loads of fat to taste good? Disgusting! That's why I only ate half of it, way too much fat! Saved the rest for tomorrow or maybe never; 1 large diet Coke split with husband

PM Snack - 1 med apple, many radishes (while making dinner)

Dinner - 1/2 cup spaghetti squash w/spag. sauce; 6 brussel sprouts; 1/4 cup spinach & artichoke dip w/high fiber tortilla (8g of fiber); 3-5 slices of an orange; 1/2oz walnuts (gotta get in those omega-3's -- or is it omega-6?)

Dessert - 1/2 cup ricotta cheese dessert per SBD (this time it's chocolate)

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 12 lbs to go!

As long as you are getting all the nutrients you need..who cares if it comes from meat vs. veggies? I say go for it!! If you are happy and your body is happy..ROCK ON!!! Great job!

Donkey on 01/16/2007:
Thanks!!! I think I hang around people who have too much time on their hands if they feel that they need to spend time ridiculing my choices. I just happen to like vegetables a lot. I wouldn't be a big meat-eater even if I did eat meat! Then there are my parents who think that vegetarianism is some form of eating disorder....

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/16/2007:
as long as the food you eat makes you feel good! just make sure you do get some protein!

WorkingIt2 on 01/17/2007:
I wish I liked veggies enough to have more lol. Like Horn said, just make sure to get plenty of protein! I'm sure you already know how to get that protein, but we worry about health as well as weight LOL Bunch of worry-bugs LOL

Have a GREAT day!!

Where do I even start?.... Not even you, Dear Diet Diary could stop me from what I can best describe as a food orgy last night. Yes, after I updated my diet diary and shut down the computer. I'm very disappointed in myself. I do not know why I continue to sabotage my efforts. But all there is to do today is start again... I will probably spend all of this week getting back down to my starting point. Why is the last 10lb so hard for me to get rid of? Why am I denying myself this success?

I did not make it to the gym today because the kids are home from school and we had a bunch of snow, so I figured too risky to go in early. I hope to go after my husband gets home from work. I'm all ready to go except for my gym shorts and a change of shoes. I did shovel this morning, but it was easier than I thought it would be.

**UPDATE - I won't be going to the gym today at all because my hubby came home 1.5 hours later than expected, which is ok. I went outside to shovel again and I'm only feeling "ok" anyway. I figure today is a good day to focus on getting back on track with food/water. Tomorrow will be a new day for the exercise part.

Breakfast - 1 cup high fiber cereal, 1 cup light soy milk.

Lunch - bowl of lentil soup, big salad w/italian dressing, 1 orange slice

PM snack - 3/4 cup plain fat free yogurt; 1/2 oz walnuts

Dinner - Spaghetti squash w/parmesean cheese; brussel sprouts; roasted vegetabes (onion, mushroom, peppers); 1/2 sweet potato; 1 Boca burger

Dessert - 1/2 cup ricotta cheese dessert (per SBD); 1/2 oz almonds

Looking forward to exercising at the gym tomorrow....

Progress as of today: -1.4 lbs lost so far, only 11.1 lbs to go!

Your question is an interesting one. "Why am I denying myself this success?" I found myself seemingly unabale to get back on the band wagon of good eating after a holiday season that was one of "holding my own" after recently losing 16-18 pounds. I still want to lose 12-15 more pounds. I didn't really gain much, but I sure didn't lose, either. I enjoyed alot of seasonal food that won't be around again until next holidays. I was asking myself last week the same thing - why am I denying myself the success I enjoyed so much pre-holidays? After pondering it a few days I found that I was just heading back into the good habits a little more gradually than I anticipated. I thought that on January 2, 2007 - BOOM I'd just automatically go back to the same dicipline that it took me weeks to achieve. Little by little I have gotten back to the place I was, but it's taken 2 weeks. I don't know if that is the case with you, but it's an idea. Hang in there and take it one meal at a time. The last few pounds are always going to be the hardest.

You have wonderful eating habits, by the way. I can only wish! Shoveling snow is good exercise! Way to go!

borntocry on 01/15/2007:
The last 10 lb is always the hardest! Diet and exercise are no longer enough. You have to work on breaking bad habits from the inside, if that makes any sense. It may take a while, but you can do it!

maria777 on 01/15/2007:
Looks like you did real well today! Maybe you should imagine your goalweight at a lower weight and that might help with motivation! Have a good evening! Big Smile!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/15/2007:
your dinner sounds fabulous...although I'm more of a morningstar veggie burger person than a boca burger person! I love spaghetti squash and many people on this site eat it as well! Sorry about your food orgy! You are doing great today!

Today is my rest day from the gym. If I can ever get myself motivated to start packing, I will get some activity from doing that. I am finding myself unusually hungry today. I felt my blood sugar level drop just as I was heading out the door this morning, so I grabbed some almonds to prevent me from getting sick to my stomach. I came home and feel somewhat shakey again, so I had a rather large snack. So while it was nice to see the Progress Bar moving downward, who knows what tomorrow will bring? I need to drink water today. It's hard to drink enough water on days that I don't exercise, and when it's cold outside to boot.

Thank you all for your encouragement! I wanted so desperately to start eating late last night but I knew what a PITA it would be to update my DD online to keep myself honest. So I just drank more water instead.

Breakfast - 1 cup high fiber cereal; 1 cup light vanilla soy milk; 1/4 oz almonds (out the door)

AM Snack - 1 cup red and green beans (total) sprinkled with parmesean cheese

Lunch - Big salad w/2oz cheese & balsamic vinegarette (OK'd per SBD); 1/4c. lentil soup (before I realized I shouldn't have more beans to eat); 1/4oz almonds; 1/4 oz walnuts; 1 med apple

PM Snack - 1/2 cup ricotta cheese dessert* *** Had a dessert for snack because I had made a chocolate cake and was wanting some really bad. I admit that I had about 2TBSP (maybe more) of chocolate chocolate-chip buttercream frosting -- I was weak, I couldn't resist!

Dinner - Big salad w/ 1oz cheese & Italian dressing; 1 bowl of lentil soup (to heck with only having 1/2 cup of beans per day); 1/4 oz almonds

Dessert - 1 grapefruit

We are expecting a big snow tonight into tomorrow, so hopefully I will make it to the gym in the early morning. Otherwise, I will be shoveling. I know that's exercise too, but it's just not the same.

Now I must work on my water intake for the remainder of the evening... May have decaf green tea if my throat starts to hurt (feels kind of funny right now...)

Progress as of today: -1.4 lbs lost so far, only 11.1 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/14/2007:
other liquids count as water, especially herbal tea!!! Try some of that, any tea without caffeine!!! there are sooo many flavors!

amanda8419 on 01/14/2007:
thanks for the comment. I moved out once before, twice actually lol, but ended up back here when I got pregnant.I just cant take it anymore, and I know that this will be my only chance to get out for a long long time. it will probably be 6 years before I can afford to get out on my own. Im nervous but I cant live here anymore. At this point my parents take so much control with my daughter that i feel so insignifigant in her life. Thats not how it should be. Ive always said if I got a chance I would go and I think this is it...but still soo scary

Good job in stopping yourself with the frosting!

Made it to the gym. I only had an hour, and I couldn't decide if I should do my 45 min. on the crosstrainer (as usual) or if I should do 30 min of cardio and 30 min of weight training (today is legs). I had already programmed 45 min into the crosstrainer (intervals) before I realized I would not have enough time to do weights. Hopefully I can do weights at home, but I should really be working around the house today (which is why I'm wasting time on the computer, right?). I **NEED** to get going on the house TODAY.

I weighed in this morning, not happy. Apparently, I must have done some REAL damage on Thursday night. But today is a new day. It will be nice to see my progress on the Progress Bar as I continue forward.

Pre-workout snack - 1/4 oz almonds (7 almonds - dang!)

Breakfast - 1 cup high fiber cereal; 1 cup light vanilla soy milk

Lunch - 1 med. apple; 1 cheese stick; 1 bowl of lentil soup; 1/4 cup sweet potato; 1 bite of celery w/peanut butter (didn't taste good so just 1 bite)

PM Snack #1 - 1 orange; 1/4 oz. walnuts

PM Snack #2 - 1/2 acorn squash; numerous radishes

Dinner - red bean taco w/high fiber tortilla; salad w/Italian dressing; grapes; 1/4 oz. almonds (7)

Dessert - 1/2 cup ricotta cheese dessert (per SBD)

Water - working on getting 96oz (3L) in...

I hope to get the hang of this, so that I only have to log in once or twice a day....

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 11.1 lbs to go!

Good for you for hitting the gym!!! Have a great day..

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/13/2007:
ok,, i need to follow your lead and get off my ass! I have been doing soooo much sitting! I think we should nickname you the "queen of fiber!" I think you actually get more in than I do...those almonds might have fiber, high fiber cereal, apple, lentils, sweet potato, celery.....you are a fiber goddess!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/13/2007:
that red bean taco with the high fiber tortilla sounds great!

WorkingIt2 on 01/13/2007:
I've always been amazed at how calorie rich nuts are! They are so tasty and what a great pre-workout snack! Have a great evening!

sasyredneckgirl on 01/13/2007:
Donkey sounds like you had a good day today keep up the good work :)

maria777 on 01/13/2007:
Oh I love almonds, especially chocolate covered almonds!!! Hubby usually buys me some on special occassions, like when we go on vacation or on holidays!!!

But nuts have lots of calories in them...

I like sunflower seeds, too, the shelled, roasted kinds...ever tried them?

Donkey on 01/14/2007:
Fiber Queen - I love it! Seriously though, bad things happen if I don't start the day off with the high fiber cereal. It's not right that nuts have to be so high in calories. Heaven help me if I eat them chocolate-covered. I would eat them to discomfort and beyond. It's not pretty. I haven't tried sunflower seeds in the longest time, but I LOVE pumpkin seeds at Halloween. Another thing that must be eaten in moderation... *sigh*

I am new here.

Ordinarily, I would not be keeping a food-related diary, as I detest having to write down every single thing I put in my mouth. However, I find that I am having difficulty staying on track, especially with eating, during this stressful period in my life. I originally started my weight loss journey at a much higher number (180) and managed to reach my goal twice within the last 4 years, the most recent being right before Christmas. Unforunately, with Christmas came indulgence and stress (issues) and I have been unable to resume my program. Thank goodness for exercise or I would have gained back much more weight that I already have.

There is no weigh-in or progress bar today because I was too afraid to weigh-in this morning after yesterday's eating fiasco. Normally, the issue I have most trouble with, weight-loss related, is portion control. I usually make very good choices, I just end up eating too much!

I hope that by keeping track of what I eat and having a place where I can vent and "see" my progress with the Progress Bar, I will be able to attain my goal. Or at least move in the right direction towards goal.

Breakfast - 1 cup high-fiber cereal; 1 cup light vanilla soy milk

AM snack - 1 stick of string cheese

Lunch - bowl of lentil soup (recipe from "You on a Diet" book), 1 slice of double fiber whole grain bread; 1 grapefruit

PM Snack - 1 cup plain fat free yogurt; lots of baby carrots

Dinner - 1/2 acorn squash w/Smart Balance & cinnamon; 1/2 sweet potato; 1 Boca chicken patty; 1 cup green beans; 6 radishes

Dessert - 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (a SBDiet dessert)

Water - 96oz (reporting in advance)

Somehow I managed to limit myself to 3 cups of coffee today, always made with a Sweet n Low packet and fat free CoffeeMate. I also should say that I am on Phase 2 of the South Beach Diet. Not only is my problem portion-control, but I realize that I also have a *terrible* time with snacking issues from 3p-5p (dinner) and sometimes this "trouble time zone" starts as early as 1p, depending on how stressed out I am. So far, being accountable to this diary has helped... (We'll see how long it lasts.)

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/12/2007:
you are just like me! I eat really well, USUALLY, but overindulge in anything and everything (even the most healthy foods!) You're eating absolutely wonderful foods!

Donkey on 01/12/2007:
Thank you. Wait until a day where I eat peanut butter like most people eat ice cream. Nuts and nut butters seem to be my weakness...

sasyredneckgirl on 01/12/2007:
Welcome to DD's hope you enjoy the site as well as everyone else does

Horn_Of_Plenty on 01/13/2007:
same here! I tend to binge either right in the morning at breakfast (when I have some time to spare in the morning), or lunchtime.
