Just wanted to take time to announce that I officially reached my goal weight today. I didn't have a chance to update my DD until this evening, but I weighed in early in the morning before hitting the gym.

It's a great feeling. I actually started my weight loss at 180lb after my daughter was born. And here I am at the end of my journey (again) and this time, my goal is to maintain this weight. Amen!

Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

leg magic is available in some sporting goods stores and also online and on tv infomercials. I bought "Red" which is an ab exerciser and I have also bought the ab lounge. I like both of those. Leg Magic works your inner thighs. It's a little odd and you have to get used to it. The good thing is that if you don't like it, there's a 30 day return policy. I paid 150 dollars for it. Then, I went to the mall the other day and saw it there for 130. oh well, i can't do anything about it now. In the past 3 years, these are the purchases i've made. I will not be purchasing anything else for at least one year! :)

Tomorrow is weigh-in day and I go and have bacon for dinner tonight. So I will have major water retention tomorrow. DOH! I must remember this when I see the number on the scale and not get discouraged.

I got a phone call today about the job I applied for. I am not going into detail about the job yet because if I don't pass training, then I don't have a job, and so why make a big deal out of something that hasn't happened yet.

But anyway, I get this phone call and on Monday morning, things are going to start happening. I have a study class, then I take a state certification test (on my own time), and then I return for the practical (hands on) training.

Great that I get this exciting/stressful news the day before like the biggest eating holiday in the U.S. I hope I don't try to drown my anxiety and worries in a pumpkin pie (yes, the whole pie).

Progress as of today: 12.5 lbs lost so far, only 1.5 lbs to go!

Eeek! I share your fears. In particular because I made this pumpkin pie, and I think I may have left it in the oven too long, so now if it sucks I'll feel obliged to finish it!

I wish I had some good advice for you, but all I can say is, try not to worry too much about the training. I'm sure you will pass it - why wouldn't you? And maybe you can try to fill up on vegetables (and lots and lots of water) at the meal itself - perhaps then you will be too full to eat a whole pie? Actually, I should probably try that myself...

make sure you offer the pie to everyone before you take a piece. and like BTC said, fill up on major heaping amounts of veggies. and, the protein of the bird also is very satisfying. I think i may be anti-thanksgiving today. I have decided to eat only veggies and turkey...and a baked apple for dessert. so, veggies, apple, fruit at the Thanksgiving meal. Even if calories are still high, they will be lower carb. I'm gonna stick with this for at least one month.

So my family has known for WEEKS that I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner. WEEKS. My grandparents were going to go to one of my (step) grandma's daughter's house for Thanksgiving dinner. FINE.

Today I find out -- from my brother nonetheless -- that my Grandfather has invited himself over to our party instead of with his WIFE (where he should be, I feel) and her family. Just invites himself over.

The man is 96 years old, uses a walker, and says he'll drop Grandma off at her place and then drive on up to my place. NOT. So now one of us has to take the time to drive the hour to go get him and then drive the hour back to my house. My brother said he and my stepfather would do it when they got here. Oh sure, after 3.5 hours driving to my house, they are going to hop in the car and drive another 2 hours to go get Grandpa.

This is just INSANE.

You're going to be busy with dinner. Let them go get Grampa. What else do guys have to do while the women cook? ...B-r-e-a-t-h-e. It will be fine. You don't personally have to solve all of the family problems. You're probably another nurturer (like me), and feel responsible to make everything run smoothly. Everything will work out if you let other family members be responsible too.

that's kinda odd. i agree. why isn't he going with his wife!? i guess that's what a 96 year old brain does to a person. my grandfather is 96 and he cannot make it to our thanksgiving. he's in a wheelchair and is in a nursing home. my dad loves his parents and does everything for them, but cannot take the responsibility of moving an imobile man around. its way too much physical stress on my dad. so his wife will be joining us...she's in better health and 86.

All in all, I survived the weekend. It's ironic that I did better food-wise on my NON exercise day than I did on the day that I exercised at the gym, but I still stayed within calorie limits.

Now starts the preparation week for Thanksgiving. I am thankful that my gym is open on Thanksgiving day, LOL!

It's been about a week since I've written an entry. I had a good weigh-in today, so I feel like I'm back on track. I realize that I may never reach my goal weight but I'll keep on trying.

I haven't started my new job yet. Training is supposed to start the week after Thanksgiving. So when it starts, things will move rather quickly, and my life (daily schedule) will change a LOT. So right now, I'm trying to maintain my cardio and I'm taking a rest from my weight training program, and looking for a new weight training program to start, because it's good to mix things up every 4-6 weeks with weight training.

My running has taken a hit because it is bitterly cold outside. I hate running on the treadmill. I also hate going to the gym 2x a day in order to get in the running workout. This probably won't be possible once I start working anyway, and it's just not practical. Life is not a day in the gym.

One positive thing about going back to work is that if I am busy and away from the house, my eating should become more organized. If I'm away from the house (refrigerator), then I won't eat as much. And I will have my food planned and organized ahead of time if I take my lunch. The eating/dieting part of weight loss is my major challenge so this would be a huge positive, in my opinion.

Next week is Thanksgiving. That should be interesting....

Oh gosh, yeah. I eat at least twice as much on days spent at home as I do when I'm at work. After all, I can hardly sit at my desk munching away all day long without anyone noticing.

So you hate running on the treadmill. That's funny because I yearn to join a gym. But I just can't justify the expense, especially as here it's rarely too cold to run outside. Also, gyms here have the most inconvenient opening hours, so there's really no point. What don't you like about the treadmill - too monotonous? I kind of like how I can just zone out and watch the numbers go by. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side!

I definitely think weight loss has more to do with diet than exercise, though. At least for people our size. I love the feeling of fitness I get from running, but I honestly don't think it does much for weight loss. It doesn't raise your metabolism like weight-lifting, so the only way to really burn lots of calories is to run long distance, and that generally spikes your appetite so you offset those calories anyway by eating more.

I hope you enjoy your new job. What will you be doing? I don't care for a treadmill, but I really miss the cross trainer that I used at the ymca.. The kind where your legs and arms both work, you can set tension, incline.. all that good stuff. In fact I miss it so much that I have given thought to giving up curves to get it back - cost is about the same. BUT I love curves and the friendships that I have there and I know that I am getting a good work out.

This just ain't good. My weight is going up and up and up. The harder I work at it, the more it goes up.

Don't tell me that I'm gaining muscle. I don't CARE if I'm gaining muscle. I still wear a size 12 (I'm 5'3"). I can't wear a ladies' Medium without feeling it's too small. I HATE BEING SHORT YET BIG!!! What the hell good is muscle if it makes you big?

If you are gaining muscle, you should still lose in inches. Muscle weighs more than fat s0 - say 5# of muscle is going to take up less space than 5# of fat so your clothes would fit looser. Are you logging everything that you eat? Every bite and swallow? You may be getting more calories than you think if you aren't. How did the interview go??

I know muscle is important, but I agree with you. It doesn't look good on all of us. For some people muscle tones them up, but for the rest of us it makes us look like we have tree stumps for legs. Hang in there, we will figure something out:)

hmmm. this is strange. how are your calories? do you watch them carefully and calculate EVERYTHING you eat and DRINK? also, in order to stretch your muscles and joints or maybe just to take a break from what you've been doing, you may want to try something like pilates or yoga. This might help you refocus into weight loss. If not that, try weight training. Women who weight train usually have a easier time maintaining and loosing weight.

Keep on doing the right things and you will get the desired results. Unless ou are really doing some weight trainig you probably aren't building that much muscle. It may be temporary water weight????Which can come from so many sources. How was the interview?

Maybe go to the doctor for a checkup? God knows I sure found out more than I bargined for but it did answer a lot of questions. Not saying there is anything wrong with you, it may very well be just a normal period of water retention as a result of the increased fitness and maybe decreased hydration. Whatever it is,I hope you find peace soon because I know how maddning it can be to the mind. :(

Hmm. How do you know it's muscle? Could you be pregnant?! Have you been keeping track of your calories and if so, what's your average calorie intake per day? You shouldn't be getting too bulky, even if you're weight training intensively. Are you? I don't remember exactly what your workout routine is but I seem to remember more cardio than weight-lifting, and that really shouldn't cause you to bulk up.

I had a job interview today. So one would hope that my morning would be as stress-free as possible so that I would be calm and collected for the interview. NOT. My mp3 player didn't work, so I was late to the gym because I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with it. I get to the gym, and the TV is set to an informercial about a steam cleaner vacuum cleaner. So I had to get the guy at the front desk and ask him to change the channel. Then, because I had no music of my own, I had to spend 65 minutes listening to big hair metal bands on the overhead music that the gym pipes in.

Get home from the gym to shower. Hubby is in the shower. Great. Kids are bickering, etc. Oh yes, nothing like a nice calm morning before a job interview.

Now I am going to "relax" by going over to the grade school and volunteer for an hour with the second grade class. (I totally forgot that I was signed up to help today, so my daughter doesn't know I'm coming today!!! I love to surprise her like this!!!) :-)

I'm ready to face the music. 132.0 this morning. Moving on...

My whole day today was so whacky. It was a near miracle I made it to the gym at all.

First, I'm at the gym at 5:30a, 20 minutes into my 65 min elliptical workout when I remembered that I forgot to leave Husband money for milk for his breakfast at work (whoever gets money out of the ATM splits the cash between the 2 of us). I knew he would be so pissed if I forgot, so I left after 25 minutes.

Then I had to remain at home because we had a guy coming over to give us an estimate on how much it would be to fix our leaky basement wall. Turns out, I could have fixed it for free, because HUSBAND left the hose running outside for something like 2 weeks. Maybe 3. So the ground was soaked and it finally had nowhere to go but into the cement of the foundation. Great. So now it DOES have to be fixed because once water starts leaking into a basement, the water "remembers" the path it took to the walls. We will have leakage / seepage every time it rains now. Great.

Then I remembered that I wanted to surprise my daughter (7yrs old) at school today. She was Star Student this week, and one of the perks is that you get to have lunch with your parent if they can. When I learned of this on last Friday, I kind of gave an expression of exasperation. As in "Don't count on it" knowing full well that I would try to manage it if I could. And so I met her at lunch and she was so surprised :-)

After lunch I went to the gym and did more cardio (my full hour in addition to the 25 minutes I did this morning) and then an abbreviated but total weight training routine. I need to change my weight training routine this month. It's getting old.

Oh, and I have a job interview on Tuesday morning. THAT I found out about at 8a this morning as I was brushing my teeth.

I just reread this entry today. eeesh...sorry about the basement wall!!! repairs stink! It's good you got it under control,though! What you wrote on my entry made me feel better because sometimes a person needs to step back and realize they aren't the ONLY one who may be in a situation such as mine. also, i have to constantly remind myself that i'm 25...and not 35. It's going to be ok. lol. endless battle. but, its really weird working in the occupation, teaching, when i know that next year the chances are I will not be!! :) It's such a contradiction and sometimes it just feels WEIRD.

Well, I did not reach my goal weight of 130lb by October 31st. For one thing, my eating took a tanker over the weekend.

Let me interrupt myself by telling you all very urgently: DO NOT BINGE ON PUMPKIN SEEDS. If you do, plan to be in the bathroom for long periods of time the following day.

So despite 3 days of really bad eating, I managed to weigh in at 131.5 today. I am thankful for that.

I do not consider this month to be a failure for myself even though I did not reach my goal weight. I continued to run regularly. I did over 200 miles of cardio (only 9 of them were on a bike). I did over 2000 minutes of cardio this month. I wish I had been able to do more weight training, and I can see that I need to have more of a balance between the cardio and weight training if I want to get my body into the shape that I want (without liposuction). I also managed not to binge for most of the month (until this past weekend, in fact).

So now all I have to do is survive all this candy crap that will be coming into the house tonight for Trick or Treating. I have decided to take pro-active steps to prevent myself from bingeing on candy. It is THEIR candy after all. Nothing is more disgusting to me than eating all of your kids' Halloween candy. Even cat's hemorrhoids is not as disgusting to me as doing that.

Have you tried making chili with ground turkey instead of ground beef? Really cuts down on the calories/fat. Also it is easier to digest and my family can't tell the diff. Cat Hemorrhoids (hee-hee)!!!! I am not buying any candy until last minute and I am going to buy kinds I don't particularly like. Your exercise is awesome. 65 minutes on ET. What level is that on? I can do 45 minutes when I have the time, but boy 65 minutes is a bunch and then micycling, too!!!

Exercise: 65 min elliptical (intervals) + 35 stationary bicycling (6.43 miles); Weight training: Upper & Lower Body (machines); Calories: 1746

I did all my weight training today because tomorrow Husband has a follow-up doctor's appointment, and I think I'd like to go with him for that. Just to hear if it really is Crohn's disease or what. I plan to go to the gym early (like I did today) and then run outside after the doctor's appointment, probably the 4-mile route.

I also applied for a job today. It was painful, but it is for the best for my family. I cannot have my life centering around the gym. (Plus, maybe I can eventually get to the point where I'm saving up $ for some liposuction on my thighs, knees and hips. I am now convinced that surgery is the only way I will attain the body that I want.)

It looks like it will be a higher calorie day today, because I had chili for lunch (man, that has a lot of calories in it!). However, that is ok, and I will try my hardest not to go over my limit.

EVENING EDIT: Went 6 calories over my limit, but I was very active today, so I am totally ok with it. What put me over? Having a cup of coffee after dinner. I had a lot of salty things to eat today, so tomorrow I must focus on drinking plenty of water.

Congrats on taking the first step towards getting a job. I can't relate to you with the staying home thing, I've always worked and the only time I've been able to stay home is for the six weeks after babies were born. Except for the few months when I lost my job and didn't have one. That was awful.

I think your nerves being jangled about getting a job is perfectly understandable...after all, you've been a SAHM and it isn't easy to jump back into the work (outside of the home) thing. Good luck with it! And given your motivation, you'll still find time for the gym LOL

I don't know what type of job you are looking for, but have you thought about getting a job at the gym? Maybe you could work towards becoming an aerobics/spinning instructor. I know you said that you don't want your life to revolve around the gym, but if you are going to be working out there anyway you might as well get paid for it.

Anyway, it was just a thought! Good luck on your job search! :)

hehe, lipo. I think it's fine if that's what you want. Perhaps I'd do it if i had the cash. I actually have a friend who's 25 who got it done! She was going for a breast reduction and ended up actually doing the lipo as well!!! and she's 25! it's amazing what people do these days! amazing, amazing. I support whatever makes a person happy! But you still better exercise afterwards!
