Weight: 136.0

Exercise: NONE; Weight Training: NONE; Calories: 1700.

Today I was too sick to do much of anything, including commenting on your diaries. So I hope to be in better form tomorrow.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

hello donk donk! at least you did get some rest in! I will dedicate some of my fun day to you, since you said you didn't get any exercise in.

i had a good day. I think i sound like a manic depressive here! It's either really good...or really bad! haha.

your calories aren't terribe for a day of rest. i hope that you are able to get moving soon.

Exercise: 65 minutes crosstrainer (interval) + 45 minutes mowing the lawn; Weight training: NONE; Calories: 1550.

I am sick. This sinus infection has moved down into my chest and yet is still in my head, so not only am I coughing (very annoying) but I still have a stuffy nose/head. This is not fun.

Hence, I have decided not to do any weight training until my cold has passed. This is so I preserve all my energy for cardio and daily activities. I felt so tired doing cardio today, and mowing the lawn was a HUGE mistake -- really wiped me out. But don't try to talk me out of doing cardio. I would feel worse for not doing it. Then I felt guilty for doing nothing all day, so I mowed the lawn. But there was a reason why I was doing nothing all day, and I should have headed that reason!

My weigh-in is accurate.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/13/2007:
ok. fine: at least mowing the lawn got you some sunshine...that always does the body good. we should all get sunshine in for about 20 minutes per day at least. there are studies done saying how healthy it is. so, even though it tired you out, it probably did u some good as well! :)

FEEL BETTER. you did great on calories. you have been doing well! yay to acccurate weight!

Well, I ended up turning the air conditioning on again last night because the humidity was just horrible. Good thing I did because we had storms last night. And we will probably have more tonight.

I really REALLY want to start running outside, on a consistent basis. Doesn't have to be a lot. Doesn't have to be very fast. But I'd like to get out there and do some kind of running 3x a week. I just can't do it in this weather though. The motivation to do so is just zilch.

I am still recovering from the sinus infection, hence no exercise today. Not even yardwork as I don't want to do anything outside that would aggravate my sinuses. Plus, it's too hot and humid out. Bleah.

Just not a lot of positives today for me.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/12/2007:
at least you are determined...and when you are feeling better and the weather cooperates, i'm sure you'll get out there!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/12/2007:
you're right. people get "derailed" due to the littlest things. waking up late, not being able to make lunch, etc. It's amazing how one thing can put havic on people's diets! haha. FEEL BETTER!

Weight: 136.0

Exercise: None; Weight Training: None; Calories: 1549.

Friday exercise: 65 minutes crosstrainer (double hill); 20 minutes upper body weight training.

The kids and I seem to have a sinus infection, so I am taking it easy this weekend until the thing progresses to a manageable chest cold. Right now it is in what feels like my throat (but it's not, it's actually in the lower sinuses) and this is the worst feeling stage of it.

Husband and I had a pretty big "disagreement" last night about money issues. So the positive thing was that I certainly did not feel like eating a big dinner. And of course, I feel that we resolved our issue and we are on the right path now (hopefully). All of this with a big bag of dark chocolate M&Ms sitting on my kitchen counter. I can't believe I didn't dive in and eat the whole thing! The bag remains unopened.

I hope this sore throat does not lead me to eat all the ice cream in the house. It only feels good temporarily; then the pain comes back. And then the guilt comes after that, ha ha.

AFTERNOON EDIT: I finally turned off the air conditioning. There's a nice breeze coming in, but it is still pretty hot. Maybe I made the wrong decision. My "throat" (really my sinuses) is killing me - even with taking Tylenol. I will try to take some Motrin to see if that helps any.

EVENING EDIT: Hoping to turn in early. Husband had to work 12 hours today. It has been a long day for both of us, I am sure. Definitely made the wrong decision to turn off the AC today.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

I'm with you on the sinus problem. Hope you feel better soon!! Take care.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/11/2007:
awww feel better...and your kids, too!

yeah, i know the calories aren't good for my "10-day plan." However, the foods are pretty filling, for a normal person, anyway. so, i will consider myself successful if i can stick to it.

i am also trying to ramp up exercise...especially after this plan is over. exercise is something so important to me...and i refuse for anything to get in the way. when i was going to school and working, things got in the way. now, i'm not letting it be like that anymore!!!

biscottibody59 on 08/12/2007:
Good job on the calories and exercise--keep up the good work!

Just saw your comment to Kia and a good way to get around deleting a comment and starting over is to immediately (before you've moved on to another diary) hit the "Back" key and you can see your comment to edit. When you "Submit" it next it will show both comments, previous and the one you just edited. Delete the first one. Seems the webmaster had a good reason not to be able to edit comments, but I can't remember what it was:-) You could ask again--maybe he can change it now.

Hope you figure out what's going on to mess up your sinuses. Have you changed your AC filter recently? That's usually what gets me allergy-wise if I wait too long between changes. Of course turning off the AC here anytime between about May and November isn't EVEN an option. And in the winter I have it set to be able to come on if it gets too hot or humid--usually when it's warmed up to the 80s right before we get a cold front. It happens occasionally in wintertime.

Never got in my 2nd upper body dumbbell challenge workout yesterday. Oh well, what's done is done, can't change the past. Today my legs felt like lead. It was hard to get started. That's today's theme, I think. "Hard to Get Started". Woke up late, got started late, came home late, etc.

I think I will start announcing total calories consumed in addition to my exercise routine, if I can remember to do so.

No benifits for Armando! LOL... no it's very much just friends... well kind of. He's actually mad at me at the moment so we barely talk let a lone anything else lately. He's so moody *Worst than me!* and i'm not even sure why he's mad at me right now, but that's ok. Anyways, thanks for the support! I really appreciate it and great job on the exercise today!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/09/2007:
I know what you mean by your legs feeling like lead!!! hmmm, try to stretch them and massage them a bit...that should help a little. also, after using them a lot, if you lie on your bed with your legs up in the air against the wall, sometimes that helps counteract the lactic acid. eh, it might be a myth, but it feels good.

i miss your foods list...but i think you were saying how you tend to eat the same foods everyday? is that why you don't do it? i look foward to hearing calories consumed.

gerri on 08/10/2007:
i don't know how to count calories, it seems like to much trouble for me .. i know what is bad and just stay away from it .. wish i had you motivation to exercise tho .. keep up the good work

Exercise today: 65 minutes elliptical crosstrainer (gluteal); 25 minutes upper body weight training (machines);

Husband is home today and tomorrow, so I had no need to get up at the butt crack of dawn to go exercise. Ironically, it was the best sleep I've had all week, AND I was up naturally, on my own at 4:30a. However, I decided I could use more sleep, so I snoozed until around 6a and then started my day.

Of course, I have had no door-to-door solicitors at all this week. Most of the things they try to sell are pretty standard: lawn care services, landscaping services, newspaper/magazine subscriptions, meat, etc.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

fattyfatty2by4 on 08/08/2007:
I really admire your exercising!! You really do a great job with that!

hollybelle on 08/08/2007:
"butt crack of dawn" - hilarious!!!

greengirl on 08/08/2007:
Doesnt it make a difference when you wake naturally instead of the alarm getting you up. Even if you havent had hours and hours, you feel as though you have had enough sleep. Thats why I love weekend!!! You are so focussed and dedicated to your exercise, you are putting me to shame!! Well done, Donkey :o)

Exercise today: 65 minutes on the crosstrainer (intervals); 25 minutes lower body weight training (machines)

Utterly exhausted today. Last night, I went to bed way too late, had trouble falling asleep. Finally went to sleep in the middle of thunderstorms. Woke up around 2:30a to more storms, that kept me up a good hour. Then I had to wake up at 4:40a for the gym. I was slow to get going, but I did it.

Now all of that humidity that we had in the air from those storms has heated up in the bright sunshine, so it is ghastly outside now. On the bright side, it looks like I should be able to turn off the air conditioner by Friday, Saturday at the latest. I certainly hope so!

I realized this morning, as I was rushing home from the gym, that I do not have to worry about door-to-door solicitors when it is raining outside :-)

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

greengirl on 08/07/2007:
I dont know how you managed exercise on so little sleep. There is nothing worse than disturbed sleep. I hate it when you are woken up and then cant get back to sleep. You must be really committed to get up at 4.40 to go to the gym. I have to get up at 5am for work but when I dont have to get up for work I always have a lie in!!! Keep up the good work :o)

GG on 08/07/2007:
On my elliptical trainer, the programs go for 90 minutes and then I have to start the whole thing over, but it is nice to get those 90 minutes done....take a break...and then hop on the elliptical for about 10-20 more minutes a bit later in the day!! It is GREAT!! I hate not sleeping well @ night! That happened to me last night just like you! So we were both tossing and turning at the same time I am sure! haha! But unlike you I sleep really well when there are thunderstorms and it is raining!! Luckly, my lack of sleep last night did not damper my work out this morrning, if anything it game me more energy! It is so weird how that happens some times! hhaah! Do you get bombarded with door-to-door soliciter a lot? I dont think I have ever had one of those come to my door before! What is the strangest thing they have tried to sell to you?

ad_vitam on 08/07/2007:
Hope you'll have better sleep tonight. A short nap during a day, if it's possible, can restore your energy.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/07/2007:
GREAT exercise today. I always want truthful, critical feedback. there's not a day that i would be angry about it! so, thank you for the feedback. you are right, to not put myself through the torture of 4 1200 cal days. but, after all the binging, i feel like i cannot hold out any longer to lesson my calories so that the average is not soo high! its a bad habit, a really bad cycle, like i mentioned to GG. I know i have to end it, its destroying my life! I just can't step away from counting calories yet. if i did that, i probably wouldn't binge so much. but i really don't know about that either.

i just need to make sure the exercise is up.

honestly, then i think i should take some antidepressants...because that might help me FOCUS...and not just obsess on calories.

Exercise today: 65 minutes elliptical crosstrainer (single hill program); 30 minutes dumbbell upper body challenge program (home); 15 minutes running (treadmill, 1.5 miles); 25 minutes upper body weight training (machines)

OK, Donkey did it! She got up super-duper early to get to the gym super-duper early and now she's ready for her doorbell to ring off the hook before 9a, courtesy of salespeople harassing my residence last week. (Of course I do not expect ANY solicitors THIS week.)

Actually though, it wasn't too bad, once I was awake. It is so hot and humid here in Chicago-land that exercising before the sun came out was the best thing to do. Even though the gym is air conditioned, once the sun starts beating in through the "wall of windows" they have, it becomes a real struggle to remain cool.

Now I am very tired, most of that due to poor sleeping last night. I could NOT fall asleep and then I had a hard time staying asleep. I hope to take a short nap today, possibly after lunch, because lack of sleep can cause weight gain too. But I think after doing this "early bird" routine a few days, I will adjust and sleep better overall.

I plan to do more exercising today, as I still have all my weight training to do.

EVENING UPDATE: I did not get ONE single knock on the door today >:-[ I was so tired all day long. No nap either.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

jmarie60 on 08/06/2007:
Summer and I do NOT get along. I love fall! It's so hard to get motivated when it's so hot outside. The same for winter. I would still rather be too col than too hot! It doesn't help that it's so humid here in Ohio. I know it can get humid in Chicago too!

Congratulations for getting up and getting to the gym so early. Hopefully some of your early bird vibes will rub off on me and I will get up early tomorrow morning!

Have fun with all your other exercising!

biscottibody59 on 08/06/2007:
Good for you!

I can commiserate with you on the humidity+heat. Usually by this time in TX it's nice and dry and more than likely above 100F--not this year with all the rain we've had, so I have to work with it. Is supposed to be in the 100s next week, but it will be drier than today.

No I didn't get in the jog or anything else, but I did get some decent sleep for a change. When I started jogging a few years ago, I just made myself do it, preferably in the evening, but it was generally hot no matter what time I went. I don't mind doing exercise first thing in the morning outside, EXCEPT for jogging/running--it just doesn't serve me for some reason.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/06/2007:
my binges on carbs are almost always on parents' food. anything sweet, cookies, you name it!, sweetened yogurts, bread, peanut butter, crackers, chocolate, candy, cereal, would be theirs. i usually replace it if i finish it. of course, i would rather not binge on their food! sometimes, i'll even binge on mine...but it usually doesn't lead to as big a catastrophe. i binged, like i usually do, because one thing had ended (performing in the orchestra and i'm relieved about that for the summer!), but also as a distraction from not having a job!!! arg!

hollybelle on 08/07/2007:
Good for early rising and exercise. I wish I would do that. Notice I didn't say could - because I could - I just don't lately. Even early or late at night it is miserable weather here. Relief is supposed to be on the way this weekend - we'll see.

Exercise Today: 140 minutes gardening: weed pulling, plant pruning

I am disappointed that I could not wake up early enough to get to the gym early (7a opening on weekends). Thankfully it was breezy outside, so the heat and humidity was bearable outside.

Your gardening certainly counts as a good workout. Good luck fitting the gym in your schedule this week! I admire your commitment to working out.

Donkey - Saturday Aug 04, 2007
(Calorie Counting & Exercise)
Weight: 136.0

Exercise today: 45 minutes mowing the lawn (worked up a really good sweat!); 30 minutes upper body dumbbell routine + push-ups and crunches.

So no gym today because I'm worried about solicitors ringing my doorbell at 7am. I spoke to my next door neighbor to ask if she had had any early morning vendors come ringing her doorbell within the past 2 days. And after talking to my Daughter again, I have concluded that these are indeed salespeople coming around EARLY and ringing on my doorbell.

SO --- Donkey concludes that we must take care of this PRONTO. On Monday morning, I will get up early and go to the gym for cardio only. I should be home by the time Husband leaves for work. I will have to go in again in the afternoon if I want to do any weight training. Or I can work with dumbbells at home. Or both. We shall see.

In a way, this has been a blessing, because this is kind of the routine I want to get into once school starts. So this is forcing me to do it. Also, I will have to start getting the kids up earlier anyway, to prepare for the school time schedule of waking/sleeping. So 7a workouts weren't going to last much longer anyway.

I have to really want this, to make it work.

Addendum: While I dislike doing exercise videos at home, I think I would be open to doing a yoga DVD at home. So I will be looking to invest in a yoga DVD as a back-up plan for situations when I feel that I cannot leave the house. Someone also recommended getting a jump rope. I may invest in one of those as well, as that would work as long as the weather isn't too wicked. Perhaps I should start researching stationary bicycles for the home... Thank you all for your helpful and positive suggestions.

Progress as of today: 8 lbs lost so far, only 11 lbs to go!

greengirl on 08/04/2007:
I hate unsolicited phone calls and doorstep calls. It should be against the law to have people turning up pestering you. I hope you soon get used to your new routine :o)

jon'smom on 08/04/2007:
Good luck with your new routine. You can do this!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/05/2007:
hi! I'm pretty sure GNC sells protein mixes. I buy my protein packets (there's so many flavors i'd rather buy single servings of all the flavors than a big container with only one flavor) at a health food store by me. It's a specialty store. Supermarkets might sell it...but health food stores are the best place to go...also vitamin stores, i guess!

biscottibody59 on 08/05/2007:
If you want it without aspartame, be sure to read the labels. I have about a pound-sized package of GNC strawberry protein shake mix that says nothing about it being sugar-free. I tasted it and it was soooo sweet. I had to read the ingredients. Very much like Pedialyte--it's not listed on the front that it's got aspartame.

Glad you got the vendor situation figured out:-)
