(You on a Diet)
Weight: 135.0

It's a bit early to be logging in but I thought I should grab the opportunity while I had the chance.

Today I returned to the old house and got my old scale. It is still in the trunk of my car though. I am stuck here all day tomorrow until the furniture people come -- and they only give a delivery time "window" of 4 hours. So I figure I will do more unpacking and cleaning tomorrow, with what's in my car, etc.

At any rate, I spent nearly 3 hours cleaning 3 bathrooms (but not showers) in our old home. Yuck. When i returned home, my husband had cleared out a lot of empty boxes in the family room.

I"m still doing very well eating wise, but again, I did not get out and walk or run. I'll get back into exercise soon enough. I weighed in at 139.0 today on my Tanita scale. Since my weight is continuing to progress downward -- now that we're not eating out any more! -- I will not change my progress bar.

Progress as of today: 3.5 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

WorkingIt2 on 02/19/2007:
All that cleaning you did IS exercise! YOWZA!! I cannot stand cleaning the bathroom LOL

borntocry on 02/20/2007:
Not bad! Hopefully you will be back to your old weight in no time!

(You on a Diet)
Weight: 135.0

Today went very well eating-wise. Hooray!!! Ate in moderation, had 3 meals, 1 snack, and 1 dessert. I have decided I am going to try to follow the principles of "You on a Diet", which is a lot like South Beach Diet, with more of an emphasis on regular exercise and a little more flexibility on the carbs.

Ironically, speaking of exercise, I never did get to my intended walk today. My outdoor gym shoes are still at my old house, as is my old scale (name brand: Thinner). So I guess I will weigh in on my new scale (name brand: Tanita) tomorrow. I weighed in on Saturday and I was at 141.6, sad to say. I plan to return to our old house to pick up some things, including my shoes and my scale. I'm also hoping to do a little cleaning while I'm there but I don't want to spend a lot of time there. I want to come back home.

Progress as of today: 3.5 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

great job with your meals! That's wonderful! Food intake is always the most difficult for me- so I love it when other people have good days too! :) Congrats!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/18/2007:
yeah, definitely! you have a new home now, no turning back!

Justine6Robert3 on 02/18/2007:
Glad to hear your getting settled in to your new home and everybody is liking it! Great that you had a good day today with your food. I also struggle the most with the "eating well" in this process. I'm sure now that your moved in you'll be able to get back to the regular exercise also!

Happy Gym shopping! I hope your able to find a nice gym to suite your needs by March 1st!

WorkingIt2 on 02/19/2007:
LOL my new scale weighs me heavier than my old one but mom won't give me back my old one LOL. Take care and have a great day!

(Back to Basics)
Weight: 135.0

It's good to be back! I had written a nice summary of the past few days' events only to be kicked off the computer through a series of missteps; my entry for today was lost.

Suffice it to say that it is a great relief to be moved in. There is still lots of cleaning and unpacking to be done, but we are home. The kids are happy in their new schools so far. My husband and I keep telling each other how happy we are with our new home.

Unfortunately, my weight has suffered, somewhat greatly. I won't waste much time dwelling on such negatives. Most of my weight gain is due to not enough water and too much eating out. But now that we are settling into our home, I hope (HOPE!) that we will be eating home-cooked meals again. I definitely need to start drinking more water and exercising regularly. It is a hopeful goal of mine to find a gym by March 1st, but we shall see.

It is good to be back!!

Welcome home! Its great to hear that the new place is working out really well and that everyone is happy! Once you start settling in you'll get back on track. No worries! :-) You're doing great!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/18/2007:
congrats on your move! so, if you stop eating out and starting in home-cooked meals, i'm sure that the weight gain will disappear!

hollybelle on 02/18/2007:
Ah, stress, the great sabatour. Hope that now you are moved you will get back to your better habits. It is hard when schedule changes all around. Good luck. We are here if you need us.

Moody on 02/18/2007:
Welcome back!! I am glad to hear that the move is over and you are settling in nicely!! It's always a stress isn't it?

Now that things are settling, you should be able to get back into the routine of things in no time!! Good luck!

Great to hear that your move went successfully!! Now I am sure you will get back on track. Good luck :)

This is my last entry until we are relocated. My husband informed me that he will be taking apart this computer when he gets home and then I do not know how long it will be before I have internet access again. On the bright side, having internet access is a high priority for my husband too, so I know he will be setting up the network before he unpacks his underwear. ("Don't worry dear, I'll do that for you.")

I can physically feel the extra weight that I have put on. I feel it especially in my hips and thighs. I can see it too, in the mirror. 10-15lb. *sigh* The good thing is that we are expecting "warmer" weather in the 30s next week and I hope to start a dedicated walking program, 30 minutes a day no matter what.

Today my husband took my son to the doctor for his ear infection. In the middle of a snow storm. His car ended up in the ditch, but thankfully there was no car damage and nobody was hurt. I went outside to shovel 3 times today. I decided not to drive the kids all the way to their new schools today. I think that was the only school district that had school today. Our old school district (where we are living now and will be moving from, tomorrow) did not have school today.

So this move has definitely been something: snow, cold, sickness, car accident, delays, weight gain - egads! At any rate, I do look forward to when I will be on the computer again and can truly TRULY rededicate myself to living a healthy, stable lifestyle.

Progress as of today: 3.5 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

girliegirl6486 on 02/13/2007:
Good luck with the move, glad no one was hurt with the ditch incident!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 02/13/2007:
When you are all settled, take a day to relax!!! you deserve it!

Justine6Robert3 on 02/13/2007:
I'm glad nobody was injured in the accident! We are also expecting alot of snow overnight. Snow storm warnings are all over the T.V., the bus may be cancelled tomorrow.

You haven't been having the best time of it. I hope the move goes well and your son is feeling better! Ear infections are not very pleasant for the little ones!

I do think you should take a day to relax after this move!!

moody on 02/14/2007:
Wow..that's scary..I'm glad that everything turned out ok tho! Talk about stressful!

Hang in there and good luck with your move!

Sometimes it seems as if everything is going against you, but soon you will be settled enough to get back on track. Thank goodness that no-one was hurt in the car incident!! Good luck with the move :)

Weight: 135.0

So Day 11 is as far as I got. Had a binge last night. I think this just proves to me that I cannot let my guard down, especially during this stressful time of moving.

On top of all this moving chaos, my daughter takes my husband's "Maybe you can have a sleepover before we move" suggestion to heart and makes sleepover plans with a friend. Very last minute. I felt so foolish explaining to the girl's mother how this came about. The sleepover went well, though, but I had some extra food here that I normally wouldn't have otherwise (ice cream) and that was my downfall. I take full responsibility.

It just irks me to no end that my husband does this with the kids. He'll talk about things or activites and then not follow through. So the kids expect that we will be doing or getting something and then Husband is like, "Where did you get THAT idea?" and I will remind him, "You mentioned it 2 weeks ago, DEAR." I think a lot of this comes from his past, as his father was an alcoholic, and I'm sure that this kind of passive-aggressiveness happened to him all the time. ("Broken promises") I'm just thankful that I'm here to do damage control. I also explain to my husband that he CANNOT make empty promises to the kids like that, because they remember what he says and then expect some type of follow through. It's also not fair to me that he do this.

I don't mean to make Husband seem like a big jerk, because I do think he's a good dad. I just don't think he realizes that he does this, for one, and that when he does do this, he doesn't realize what the impact of his actions (or rather, inactions) are on the kids.

So while it's not healthy by any means, if the worst thing that happened last night was that I ate too much ice cream (and peanut butter), well, then I'll take it in the shorts for the sake of my family's overall sanity. This time.

Still weighed in at 136.5. If I don't see a change by tomorrow, then I will adjust the Progress Bar.

Progress as of today: 3.5 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

Day 11 is done. Unfortunately, my weight was up to 136.5 this morning on the scale. Again, I will give it a day or 2 to see if it's a water issue.

Essentially, I am in a waiting pattern until we move. Most of the food in the house is gone, although I did ask Husband to purchase some fresh fruit yesterday, so that I don't start eating old candy in the house, in search of something sweet. 2 of the 5 nectarines he bought were rotten, but he tried.

I was thinking how unfortunate it is that you are "meeting" me --- and that I am endeavoring to do a diary --- under these circumstances. I feel that this is not a good representation of my abilities (results) when I am really focused on losing weight and exercising, as I was, say 4 months ago.

I am hoping today to project a more positive attitude here at home. At least our moving date will not change again (I hope). Hopefully, it will help with the bickering between my husband and myself, which is important with the kids home now until they start school on Tuesday. I am excited for them! I am excited for all of us, starting over again.

Starting over again. I realized on Wednesday, that it took me about 3.5 years to start feeling at home in this community: school, library, church, having people who recognize you and remember you (also known as "friends"). And now I have to start over again. Meeting neighbors, making contacts, finding regular stores to shop, eventually making friends and recognizing names in the church bulletin or newspaper. And of course, finding a new gym, which is most important, right?

Progress as of today: 3.5 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!

borntocry on 02/10/2007:
Don't be silly - I am so impressed at how well you are doing under the circumstances. If I were in your shoes I wouldn't even be trying.

Your husband seems to be just as useless at grocery shopping as mine is, and that's not an easy feat. On the rare occasion that I have to ask my husband to pick something up for me, I never know what he'll bring home. Once I asked him to get a cucumber and he came home with a zucchini. Then another time I told him to get olive oil and he brought home grapeseed oil (bragging about what a great price he got)!

Thanks for your comment on my running. It's nice of you to be concerned for me!

geevee on 02/10/2007:
You're right. I'm very fortunate to be able to get such wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables. Agriculture is one of the main industries in Florida, plus we're now getting all kinds of good things from South and Central America, like the papaya and eggplant both of which were only 50 lb. The papaya comes from Guatemala. I'm not sure about the eggplant but it is so fresh: firm and glistening.

greengirl on 02/10/2007:
Moving house is one of the most stressful of life events so bickering with your husband is normal under the circumstances. Starting over sounds an exiting prospect. Hope everything goes ok with the move and the kids new schools. Good luck!!

Workingit2 on 02/10/2007:
Aww, that is such a bummer when you find out that the fresh fruit is rotten :( I've had that happen a couple times. As far as the moving, that is one of the most stressful events I've ever seen between couples, including when I was married lol. You are doing great considering everything you are going through...soon, you'll be past all of this and doing just great!

Day 8 and 9 completed, although Thursday night was not the best example of control, after Husband and I got into an arguement. We used to have very heated exchanges but now I just walk away, even if it means no dinner with the family. I had "stuff" to eat afterwards and one thing kind of led to another. But then it stopped.

Believe it or not, I was supposed to be moving into my new house today. That got changed to Monday and then yesterday, the appointment was changed to Wednesday. Unfortunately, I have already made arrangements with the new schools for the kids to start on Tuesday. So Monday, they will be home for no apparent reason, then Tuesday, I will drive them 1 hour to their new schools and get them situated. Then in the afternoon, I will drive down the house and meet the kids at the bus stop. And this would be fine too, except that the kids' pick-up and drop-off time differs by 30+ minutes.

Wednesday, too, I will have to drive them down to either the school or the bus stop, but that's ok, because it will get me out of having to be at the old house for the moving van.

Some day, indeed, I will be settled in my new house. This is very frustrating and aggravating, to say the least.

Justine6Robert3 on 02/09/2007:
I know what you mean with the arguments. My hubby and I didn't used to fight all that much but since he has started his business he works often 7 days a week and his days are sometimes really long. He is stressed out and very tired these days. I'm going it alone with the kids so I am also feeling more stressed and tired lately.

I find when my hubby is tired and grumpy that I, ofcourse, get the brunt of his moods. He doesn't even realize how grumpy and nasty he can be to me when he's tired and stressed. I don't really feel like its fair that our hubbies take everything out on us!! Do you find you get the same?! I feel so upset lately because we don't normally fight. I don't like to argue and especially infront of the kids, they don't need to hear that!! I have also found myself just removing myself when he wants to pick fights, I'm exhausted and fed up with it. I left the dinner table the other night also just so my kids wouldn't have to listen to us carrying on for no reason!!!

Lately, I just feel myself pulling away from him more and more. I just don't have the energy and he has no idea how much he hurts my feelings when he treats me like this. How can he not see how he is acting towards me?!

Anyway, enough about that!! Its great that you have successfully completed day 8 and 9!! I hope today gets better for you. Hang in there!

borntocry on 02/09/2007:
Oh, poor you! It's no wonder you and your husband are arguing - you must be under so much stress. When we bought our apartment I actually feared that it would be the end of our marriage! Hope you get settled in the new place soon.

Day 7 of Mission completed and I'm about to finish Day 8 with no bingeing. Today was difficult. I realized with registering the children today at their new school that I would be starting over again. The lady at the registration office said, "I noticed you don't have anyone listed for an emergency contact for the children. Is this correct?" to which I had to say, sadly, "Yes, we don't know anyone around here."

These schools, this community, the church --- they seem so massive! Well, they are, in comparison to my sleepy little town here. On the drive home, all of this realization hit me. It's a little scary (a lot scary) and I have to put on a brave face for the kids. I don't dare express my doubts/fears to my husband because he will see it as criticism on his part. I don't think they are real doubts, but just fears of the unfamiliar.

I am still coughing something awful. A hot shower and bed await me. I weighed in this morning, thinking I'd be down a bit. So imagine how discouraged I was to discover that I had gained a pound. I believe this is only temporary and I will re-evaluate tomorrow before changing my progress bar.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 10.5 lbs to go!

WorkingIt2 on 02/07/2007:
The unknown is scary, but it is also exciting..just the exciting part sometimes gets covered up by the scary part lol. Good luck tomorrow with weigh in! =)

Justine6Robert3 on 02/07/2007:
Okay, I left you a big message and then it when I went to submit I got kicked out, hate when that happens!!

I think its normal to feel scared and even overwhelmed with change. I think once everybody gets settled in and you get into your new groove, you will feel better. Its very stressful just to move, not to mention to move to a whole new town with nobody familiar around. I would be "a lot scared" also!!

How are your kids with the move, are they excited or nervous? My daughter has such a little circle of friends both at school (she's in grade 1) and also on our street that I know she would be very upset to move. My son just doesn't like any kind of change!! We were hoping to move before my son started school but since he is starting this Sept. that's not going to happen. We had planned on moving this spring but with my hubby starting his own company and everything we just feel like we need to wait it out a little and make sure everything goes well before we make a move.

I love were we live but we want to buy a larger, fully detached home. We currently own a Semi-detached house.

Great job on another successful day with no bingeing!! Your doing very well with everything that is going on. Its hard to stay on track when so much is going on, you have done very well keeping your eating under control!

I'm sorry your still not feeling well. I hope that hot shower and a good nights sleep makes you feel better tomorrow morning! Take Care!

GG on 02/08/2007:
Where did you move to? It is such a hard change sometimes, but soon enough you will find things that will make you feel more "at home". I am sure you gained a pound from stress, it happens to the best of us; like me! I just kept gaining and gaining last month because I was so stressed out with school work and such, now I am starting to take it a little easier, and I am back at the weight I like, thank goodness (knock on wood). Oh and by the way. WELCOME if you're new, I have not seen you around here before!!

Day 6 of Mission completed.

Today will be a struggle though. On top of the stress of moving and the cold outside, now it is snowing, making driving on the roads miserable. I was to drive to the new school district offices today to register the kids for their new schools. But with the roads as they are -- and an unexpected detour to Husband's work to drop off his lunch that he left at home! -- I decided that after stopping off at the new house (to drop off frozen food and dry goods), I would just come home, rather than try to adventure out to some unfamiliar place in weather conditions such as this. I will do it tomorrow, when there is no snow forecasted. (ha ha, this snowfall wasn't expected until this evening and it decided to show up in the morning! But hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow.)

I am worried about my poor Betta fish. His small tank is not heated and the water feels rather chilly. I put his gallon tank in the powder room, with the door shut and the light on. That room gets nice and warm with the door shut like that. I would buy him a bigger tank with a heater but I hesitate to spend the money required to do so.

I weighed in this morning, and my weight has remained the same. If I could maintain at this level until the moving is done, then I can start chipping away aggressively at those last 10 pounds. I feel like my whole life is on hold until after the move. Actually, my life has been in a "holding pattern" since 2005, maybe 2002 even. So another week or 2 shouldn't be that difficult to endure, right?

EVENING UPDATE: I find out from Husband tonight that our move will be delayed from this Friday/Saturday to Monday. *sigh* My first reaction was to reach for the cheese crackers (Cheez-Its). Fortunately there weren't many of them left. Other than them, I have done reasonably well, with the exception of too much coffee / not enough water. Hey, we all have our vices and today, mine was coffee. Boy did I ever need a vice today, that's for sure. I hope to go to bed EARLY tonight.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 10.5 lbs to go!

Justine6Robert3 on 02/06/2007:
Way to go on the weight loss. Day 6 complete, your doing great! I'm glad to hear your kids are feeling better. Do your schools actually close because its to cold or was it because the roads were bad yesturday? Just wondering.

I hope your fish makes it! I'm so ready for Spring!! At least the sun is shining today, although its very misleading because it is still freezing outside. To make matters worse our furnace shut off yesturday, I told my hubby I couldn't feel any heat coming through any of the vents so he went to check and it had shut off. Our neighbour down the street had the same problem. The weather yesturday was with the wind shield at the coldest point of the day -27 C (or -16.6 F). Thankfully we have a gas fireplace in our living room because that was our only source of heat until my hubby fixed the furnace!! Its no wonder both my kids are coughing like crazy now with runny noses!

I'm sure once you get through this move, you will get back into the swing of things. Did you decide to join another gym once your all settled in or are you just going to exercise on your own?

I hope all goes well with the move. I have to go freeze my butt off now and pick my daughter up from the bus!!

borntocry on 02/06/2007:
Maintaining your weight while moving is pretty impressive, really. I gained two or three pounds quite easily when I did it. All the stress...

WorkingIt2 on 02/06/2007:
Congrats on day 6 lol I had a beta fish with me when I had my livingroom floor replaced, we had to move to a hotel for a couple weeks. Well, it was blistering hot outside and I left the air on all day..came in and it felt like a meat locker and my poor fish was barely swimming around LOL. I put his bowl in a little warm water and then locked him in the bathroom and he was ok. They are pretty hardy little fish.

Have a great evening =)

lafemme_loca on 02/06/2007:
I hope you stay warm. I understand about stress eating... It is always nice when you reach for a trigger food and there isn't much there so it really doesn't derail you as bad as it might have done. I hope your fish survives the cold... I know that they can handle it down to 50 F indoors... from years when I had one and refused to turn on the heat... now I just use a small space heater which my cat has declared his own... he is passed out in front of it now. I want to see snow !!!! Our weather is about to change to rain this week... It means I need to start walking sooner rather than later. Have a good move and keep up the good work !!!

geevee on 02/06/2007:
White potatoes are off limits on Sugar Buster's but that's what I used for the leek pie. Interestingly, sweet potatoes are okay. Baked potatoes by themselves are so good, I can eat them without butter. They're so nutritious, sometimes I have one anyway. Breads and rice are all whole grains, incl. bagels which are permissable.

As for the sugar in truffles, I have no idea. I don't eat that many of them so I haven't bothered checking. The last time I had dessert was Christmas Eve. I don't normally eat foods made with sugar, so I indulge in the occasional truffle or two.

Each doctor's visit my glucose level has been within normal range for over two years, so I guess its all right to cheat every now and then.

Weight: 135.5

Day 5 of Mission completed. I had many reasons and opportunities to eat yesterday but chose not to do so. I was rewarded with a weight loss on the scale this morning.

Although the kids are no longer feverish, the schools are closed today because of the cold weather. Now isn't that just too ironic?

Just a short diary entry for now.

EVENING UPDATE: Doing reasonably well. I think we made it to a high of 3F today. That is not counting the wind chill.

Eating has gone well, but I realize that I am a "Picker" eater, especially when it comes to my kids' food. Having a bowl of crackers? Let me taste one (or 2 or 3). Want apple slices? Let me eat to the core and then pick a slice or two for myself. Finished your apple pie? Here, I'll finish the crusts for you - both. I guess I'm not a "Picker", I'm a "Finisher".

I should change my name from Donkey to Finisher.

I could save myself a lot of calories by NOT doing this behavior. However, I think it helps me feel somewhat satisfied without having to eat the whole item. For example, a taste of pie, without eating the whole slice. A taste of crackers without eating a bowl-full. On the other hand, I'm essentially eating food scraps. Garbage. I eat garbage. I am what I eat.

Hmm. I'm going to have to work on that one, it seems.

Tomorrow I have a **HUGE** stress event for me. I have to register the kids for their new school. This is extremely difficult for me. I have to drive to an unfamiliar location (yes, did the Mapquest thing; hopefully I won't get too flustered or panicked). Then I have to interact with strangers face-to-face. AND I have to pay the registration fee. So three big ones for me: 1. unfamiliar driving, 2. stranger confrontation, 3. paying money. All this and it's soooo cold outside. Brrrr.

So all I have to do is get through this evening, and face tomorrow like the grown-up that I pretend to be.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 10.5 lbs to go!

Oh no! I took your comment just as it was, it and the others just got me to thinking (and writing) a little more than usual. Some days I'd like to be able to just put myself in a box and get this done! Then I realize it's a journey and I tend not to pressure myself all that much:-)

Thanks for the comment! I make deals with myself about food too, haha! I'm happy to find we really are striving towards the same weight goal for our body frames, it really helps to have you there for motivation as well!

My car got a jump today and I let the battery recharge for awhile, so I hope it starts up tomorrow so that I can workout at last! Tomorrow will be weigh-in day too...hope it's good!
