10am - weights workout quick during tv show....

studying what i can / reading...

1pm-4pm farm...friend jen may WILL come !!!...we shall see ;)

__________________________________________________________

then, picking up some INSTANT coffee (cheaper and does the same thing as starbucks iced coffee!) , at the store..maybe also dried fruit for cereal, but reallly not much more than that...? running low on kombucha but thinking to do something different - hot water with stevia / lemon for a few days (cheaper alternative...)...

studying. - i'm on chapter 1 - fundamentals of PM...will need to check out and start using the PMP study apps on my phone, TONIGHT.

________________________________________________________

as far as yesterday, i did get some studying done, but not as much as i could have. i drifted on facebook and the web a bit too much...but i'll be working more today to get MORE done. and i will...especially tonight, after the farm.

_______________________________________________________

Last night I was out very late. After seeing my family, i drove to my former coworker's home to pick up my disk that should have been finished. But it wasn't fniished downloading bc her computer shut down while data was transfering. So, I tried to get it done while I visited her, but there were a few more complications and I didn't want to stay past 10:30pm (there since close to 9pm). plus, she has work today and her father is flying in from Colombia (the country!).  so she's pretty busy. I tried again to get it done. I will stop by again in a week or less to hopefully pick up the finished thumb drive. :) I also have something to get from my family that i forgot as well as drop something off at another friend's house out on the island so it will be good to do all these things the next time I take the drive....

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/29/2020:
Busy day! You still have studying to do?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/29/2020:
Yes. there's an INTERNATIONAL Project Manager Professional exam. I learned about it thru the proj man. classes i was taking and review sessions.

It looks excellent on a resume. 30% of applicants pass it the first time. it is hard. I may not pass. I will try my best and put studying in.

now that i am home, it'd be great to take a stab at the test. If i cannot pass it, I will move forward without it. I'm giving myself until end of december. the test is online, similar to an SAT or other hard test that takes 4 hours.

in January, the test is being altered greatly and a lot of the studying / prep will not be relevant anymore.

so that's why now is the time to study, while unemployed, to try to pass that and get it on my resume as it is a great asset if i can pass it, but give up after i try if i do not pass because the test is changing greatly in the new year. i have 3 chances to pass, i believe.

grannyannie on 09/29/2020:
Have you ever tried mixed seeds and raisins on cereal?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/29/2020:
i really should upgrade what's been a really sweet, sugary, breakfast soon. i was loving it while home lol.

bearcountrygg on 09/29/2020:
You still did do a lot yesterday!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/29/2020:

grannyannie on 09/29/2020:
Exam sounds like a great idea. Good luck with it!

I will "break the fast" i'm personally not fasting, tonight with parents. My mom cooked a chicken soup and it should be AMAZING (with veggies). I was going to fast and spend the day with parents, but, i decided that I could attempt being more productive here at home. I'll do an edit later today/tonight on what i was able to review for the PMP (this is how i'll be refering to the Proj. Management Professional test)

____________________________________________________________________________________

I got another totally 100% free trial for another meal service (a good one) called HOME CHEF. i ordered two meals that i would never in a million years think to cook myself at home. I'll post photos when i cook them. Seems i'm going to have LOTS of food at home these next couple weeks because I'm sure my mom will give me some chicken soup, then i have these two meals of 2-3 servings each, and i have some thai veggies that i haven't even eaten yet. so much food. nice to not have to think about needing anymore! Plus, with volunteering at the farm, I've been lucky lately and have received some greens when i go (spinach / kale) and really I do not need to shop for the guinea pigs either right now. I've been saving some, definitely...maybe as much as $15 per week the past couple weeks? plus the farm is fun!  and the free meals would have probably been around $65 at least. so, these couple weeks there's a savings of approx $100, at least! :)

____________________________________________________________________________________

Today is usually a very special (holy) day of fasting / atonement. but i am not fasting because i didn't feel I would be productive that way (and since i haven't been studying for the past couple days, i didn't want to prolong that anymore), so i'm eating, but slept in, and getting down to some review. :)

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/28/2020:
Sounds like you will be well fed for a long time!!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
yes i do think so!!!! :)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
and the food will be of such high quality...lucky me :) I can't wait to share what i cook up...and i will do the cooking soon...!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
and prob freeze what my mom gives me (the soup!).

grannyannie on 09/28/2020:
Mmm....mom's homemade chicken soup!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
I cannot wait :)

innerpeace on 09/28/2020:
Free food is the best and it always tastes better too! Have fun working on the farm. Study hard!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
can't agree more on the food...thank u for the reminder to study harder.

Donkey on 09/29/2020:
Let us know your reviews of the new food service! That sounds exciting!

I hope you had a good Yom Kippur. You have a lot of possibilities ahead of you.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/29/2020:
I will def review the food...i have so much food now (from leftover thai veggies)...i will just have to cook these dishes so that the veggies that came with them do not spoil :)

(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

let's see if I can remember, this morning was basicallly a quick shower and out the door ;)

Breakfast: pb cheese crackers (kelloggs) 200, kombucha 100...on  ride to former coworker (friend's) house 300.

snack: couple cookies at friend's house 150 (stayed there a couple hours, so, did what i needed in order to feel decent after a sorta rushed (but not stressed) morning. 150

lunch: was supposed to come home between friend and farm, but the time spead up and i ended up NOT coming home to change for farm....so i went to mcdonalds for a fast takeout and enjoyed it for 20 minutes or so in my car before going to farm. diet coke, small fries 300, 4 nuggets 200. 500.

during farm: few chocolates 50 (small)

(had a couple leftover crackers from the morning in car while deciding what to get for dinner (with another awesome coupon - $10 off of $15! these delivery services love when i choose that i will "pickup" my order and are giving TONS of coupons especially to the restaurants i have gone to in the past. awesome!)

dinner: thai shrimp lemongrass soup (was spicy!) 300 lots of veggies in there and health. also i added a bit of white rice to it 250. 550. very satisfying.

....prob going to enjoy some kind of snack at home after the soup ;)...and bed early would prob good as i'm getting up REALLY late these past few days and waking up even later as well because of it...i want to get back to waking up and out of bed by 8am which i do not do at all lately. it's become 9am which isn't early in the least in terms of waking up.

snack: tonic soda mixed with half a hard seltzer :) 150 oh and gummmies 100

1800.

exercise: farm work and sweat :) really nice. plus almost a mile walk after that :)

tomorrow I could do weights, but, I will skip them until Tuesday and do them prior to going back to the farm.

For tomorrow, my goal is to make a study plan...or just start studying for that matter.

____________________________________________________-

I wrote the below (very bottom last piece of my entry) as a comment back to Donkey, but these are my thoughts on an exam I hadn't even heard of until I took a couple Project Management courses this year in 2020.  I'm glad I took them and one required quite a bit of work from me, though we did a LOT of the work during class, but I also spent some time on it on my own. ..anyways, the courses I took, provided free thru the Union i'm in!, were good and I just wanted to take the courses as I've been in the union 9+ years and i thought it would be "good" and "insightful" to take them. Well, then I learned about a certain test that the courses can motivate and help sometime to prepare for. The Project Management Professional, national, exam. It actually might be international, I have to check.

anyways, it's something i never thought or knew about. and now i do. and since i'm not "going back to school" for another career degree any time soon, and while I may still rely on the union for future work, my best bet is to TRY. To TRY and STUDY for this exam. and see if i can pass it in November / DECEMBER. it's a $500 test.  I have money saved, that isn't the problem right now. The problem is I don't do well on these types of "scenario" exams or long-winded exams. I am an average student...so this test might be a leap for me in terms of passing. I'll try. Since i'm not working, I may try extra hard to study for this exam and actually not be looking "very" hard for jobs as I feel I might be able to count on the union, still, to get another job at another union company. I have that chance due to some connections, let's say...It's been a long 9 years in the union so far, lots of ups & downs. Lots of stress at times and also sliding at other times when things were just swell (literally, good)...so...let's see what then next 2-3 years look like. I can't really imagine them right now.

_______________________________________________________________

with the studying that i haven't really delved into after the classes ended for PMP, since i'm at the very beginning of this study "plan," i'm not used to it and have done what i've done in the past which was procrastinate most of Saturday. i'm not proud but i sometimes STILL resort to this method on certain things i'm not accustomed to doing.

it would be great if i passed the exam (this is a long shot right now), because it would indeed be GREAT on my resume...

since i'm not going back to school any time in the near future (last resort is to go back to school fully - i have a master's so...yeah)...it would be good to prove to myself that passing the PMP is possible.

and it may be...and it may not be. but truth is, i should try to take it, and try to pass, and give myself up to 3 tries before leaving it in the dust.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 09/27/2020:
Lots of possibilities to think about there.......

Horn_of_plenty on 09/27/2020:
oh yeah.

i wish i stuck to teaching / got a different masters to teach special ed...or interviewed with the city. I have lost out on this and it costs both money and time to go back to school for time...in some ways it is not worth it...especially since i cannot guarantee myself a job in anything just by going back to school.

i hope to work for the city or state in the future. we'll see what happens in the next few years as people finally all go back to work, hopefully corona is in the past, and i can see what the future holds for state / city jobs that are available to me based on my education and skills (without spending any $ for further education) as the problem is getting the job...not spending more. i hope this scenario works out for me.

Donkey on 09/28/2020:
What a lovely, busy day! I'm so glad that you have this opportunity to work on the farm! How rewarding that must feel at the end of the day.

I completely agree that you should try at least once for the PMP test. I did not see taking Saturday off as procrastination, but you know yourself. I did think there was some hesitation in getting started - overwhelming task, perhaps? - which is why I suggested a day off or 2 before starting up again.

Don't spend too much time planning. Studying is like weight loss: you can plan all you want, but you have to actually DO it for results.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
i totally agree about the "planning" i am with my head in now, starting up again today, studying for the test. thank you. excellent advice and i appreciate you taking the time to give me this advice about studying.

Donkey on 09/28/2020:
Also, I agree, let's see what happens after this darn virus is under control.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
and yes, it was overwhelming for me to start the PMP study.

bearcountrygg on 09/28/2020:
I totally agree with Donkey about doing a lot of planning.....plans often fall through...but goals remain...and working towards a goal leaves possibilities open....and allow us to bend to fit the outcomes.....

Horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2020:
I totally appreciate your input here. i am getting my head into the study. and will do as advised from BOTH of you.

(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

edit: time went by faster than lightning today. didn't get a lot done, at all. a neighbor in the bldg stopped by to talk (he is having problems with wife - he's over 60 though and was ONLY coming to chat and get a new face mask i said i could give him...he's due for extensive difficult surgery in a few days and he actually cried with tears in front of me)...so, that took around half hour. but somehow, the whole day passed me by...it wasn't a productive day by any means.

I am thinking to skip weights, but, i'll get them in tonight somehow (didn't get them done while laundry was going on...the time flew...and i really don't know wth happened. oops.

______________________________________________________________

Slept in. Very late breakfast at 10:30am: slice of frozen pie i bought - oreo flavor. was OK. 260+100 and kombucha 40. 300.

3pm very late lunch cheese (not good, just a hard piece of parmesean i had in the fridge) 100, two small croissants 200, grapes 150. 450.

5pm the other oreo pie 260 + 100 - doesn't have me feeling great and i don't think the calories are right...

8pm dinner: i have a LOT of tasty corned beef that i froze last year in it's broth - it's good - so it's going to pop up prob 1-3x a week or so going forward... :) 200 small portion..and salad (small) 100... 300...and later a beer that i accidentally sweeteneed with stevia overboard not good will prob not finish 100

10pm small croissant 100 with pb 100. 200.

1800...good.

Plan is to get laundry over with early this AM  DONE

lift weights while laundry is being done :)....XXX

maybe a short walk outside after lunch....XXX

After that, I'm going to look at the PMP study materials...and start studying for at least 1hr.XXX

after that, i'm going to look online at jobs and such...somewhat DONE

after that, i may watch tv while on bike  while doing later, nighttime weights DONE..what i watched on tv was excellent...all kinds of music stars but not pop stars :) really nice. lots of genres. just amazing.

then, will be relaxing tonight..?!?! done all day...not the best of days for being productive. no cardio either. relaxed day.

START:

more PMP - with the PMP, i have a plan i am following. i'm starting with the things that need to be reviewed for only 1-2 hours and will begin studying the longer stuff LATER. my attention span right now isn't for the longer materials, i just don't have it in me right now...so i'm going to start with the easier topics right now. i have it all spelled out, what to study, and i'm beginning now...6pm... - try again tomorrow/monday -  not very successful today

1- PMP - pm framework...that's the first area of study i'll be doing. - pgs 80, 151?..ok skipping this...not clear on where to start...maybe this is book part 2 ch.1...will start here. - try again tomorrow / Monday

2- starting instead of Initiating, book part 2 chp 2..try again tomorrow / Monday

____________________________________________________________

tomorrow i have an early day...and fun day...going to see my former project manager to get some things / give some things to/from her. hang out a little. also the farm is tomorrow from 1-4pm.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/26/2020:
Sorry, Horn, but I find it hard to believe that the Oreo pie was only "OK" - ha ha ha! (I'm laughing at myself and my own gluttony.)

This sounds like a nice day! And tomorrow sounds even better. What is your former project manager doing during COVID?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2020:
i will look up the brand of the pie...i had it straight from the freezer so it took a little longer to eat than if it was just light as whipped cream...still had a little ice on it...i'll let you know the brand, not like store bought or homemade!

also, she has retained her job completely, but, it's even shifted a bit for her since the project is literally going to end in this next year...she has gone back to estimating and is learning the programs better since she didn't need to use them at a high level after becoming a project manager around 5 years ago (and all years on the same project...big project). all in all, they kept her. she's outrageous and a great worker, i have to say :). they did cut her salary to 4 days for some of the time during covid though. so maybe it's tougher than i think it is right now in the industry, idk, i'm not sure.

bearcountrygg on 09/26/2020:
YEAHHHHHH...WHAT DONKEY SAID ABOUT THE PIE!!!!!...Personally I have NEVER had a piece of pie in my life that was just OK......At first I was thinking what kind of fruit pie was it...THEN>>>>>I see it's an OREO PIE...OMG!!! Please tell me you are not throwing the rest of the pie away! I'm afraid I would not be able to think about anything else all day other than that pie. :)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2020:
it wasn't a fresh pie...it was frozen in slice form...i have to write more about it...but lately sweets don't have the same effect on me as they used to...but once again, it was frozen...lol

grannyannie on 09/26/2020:
Anything involving Oreos is never just OK!!

I like read my Kindle while I'm on the exercise bike.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2020:
well, it wasn't fresh that the scone / baked treat you are eating today....i will get back to you all on the pie...take a photo next time because i have one more.

grannyannie on 09/27/2020:
Listening to your neighbour's problems was worth your time. So you did get a lot done.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/27/2020:
thank you for that xo

bearcountrygg on 09/27/2020:
It's nice that you were there for your neighbor...sounds like he needed someone to talk too.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/27/2020:
i felt thankful to lend an ear (that's what he needed most)

Donkey on 09/27/2020:
I was going to suggest that you take a day off on Saturday and do nothing relating to studying. Same goes for today as well, although it sounds like it's not in your plans (for today) anyways.

You've done a lot of intense studying for the past few weeks, plus the interview and job searching, and I think a couple of days off might do you well.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/27/2020:
with the studying that i haven't really delved into after the classes ended for PMP, since i'm at the very beginning of this study "plan," i'm not used to it and have done what i've done in the past which was procrastinate most of Saturday. i'm not proud but i sometimes STILL resort to this method on certain things i'm not accustomed to doing.

Deciding to do weights TOMORROW, not tonight :)

__________________________________________________

  • I admit to sleeping in till 9am the past couple days
  • Doing some cardio (half hour) in late morning (11am) indoor stepper, 20 min, and bike for 10min DONE
  • Friday at 2:30 I have a legal secretary interview around 40-45min away from me (very decent commute) by car...it went well, but they may choose to take someone that lives at home and has no rent as who they hire...i should hear from them next week. The employer would pay me 40k if I were to get the job. we shall see. I'd have to pay my own health insurance (seems common in the law industry for paralegals - as Donkey mentioned). DONE!
  • Pay rent bill at housing office during my walk when i'll call my friend Christine...DONE
  • Do video for my sister for something she's putting together (must do this today) DONE
  • look back at Indeed job postings / Linked in..apply to a few....and see if any are progressing towards anything...
  • follow the instructor's PMP plan and spend a half hour studying...not sure if I will start this today, tomorrow or later in the week. I really just need the cover letters to be done for now...
  • Saturday is a free day - I will do my laundry, yes, and will also get some good cardio in.  but besides that, I will spend some time looking more closely at the PMP study plan...will also be doing upper body weights...pretty busy day i'd say...i can make it good if I study.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/25/2020:
Glad to hear the interview went well! What makes you think they want someone who doesn't have to pay rent/mortgage?

Fingers crossed! Keep applying, keep interviewing!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/25/2020:
i think this attorney/owner/lawyer wants the cheapest work he can pay for. and that would be paying under 40,000 if he can to someone living at home with their parents straight out of college that has debt from college (he mentions making deals with some of them to help pay off their college loans). like instead of paying health insurance, he pays their loans, etc., he said. like a perk.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/25/2020:
he doesn't pay health insurance.

Donkey on 09/26/2020:
^ I see... Well, I'm not sure that's the right employer for you. Large corporate firms usually offer benefits, but then you have to be able to deal with working in that kind of environment. Also, municipal jobs, like Court Administration, offer benefits.

Could you keep your union membership active while working as a paralegal?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2020:
I will be looking into your question when i speak to my dad further into the weekend / Monday. :)

it would be "smart" to continue in the union if at all possible, for now.

Today basically was errands during most of the afternoon hours to get certain tasks done that needed to be done within the next couple weeks. so now they are done all at once.  It was good to get out but i'm glad it's all done & paid for and that I can go on a job interview tomorrow as well as continue to look for employment in the coming days / enjoy the outdoors as well.

I will bike ride on my indoor bike and watch some TV before I have dinner and perhaps apply to a few more jobs or look at my PMP notes and see what I should do next in terms of starting studying for the PMP test.

 Activities:

  • do leg exercises after morning shower (while hair dries a little before going outside)..doing now - DONE
  • visit a walk-in clinic for more stye / eye medication (rx) ...(get this while i am home so that i have it readily available since i tend to get a stye 1x a year at least) DONE
  • get a flu shot at nearby cvs / rite aid (do it now while i have time) scheduled for 2pm...DONE
  • pick up some thumb drives and larger software external hard drive at nearby electronics store...(do it today - i need these on Sunday when i go to visit former coworker to save many files) DONE
  • picked up Thai takeout bc i had another really good coupon ($10 off of $15) DONE

I did go on linkedIn, but, didn't do these activities, yet...will be working on them though!...

  • look back at Indeed job postings / Linked in..apply to a few....and see if any are progressing towards anything...
  • follow the instructor's PMP plan and spend a half hour studying...not sure if I will start this today, tomorrow or later in the week. I really just need the cover letters to be done for now...
  • Friday at 2:30 I have a legal secretary interview around 40-45min away from me (very decent commute) by car.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 09/24/2020:
Hope you get rid of that annoying stye.

We're getting our flu jabs Oct 21st.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
got my shot and good new medicine for the stye that should last awhile, thankfully. i even got the doctor to give me a refill :) wonderful! (all the medicine should last me thru the next 2-3 years! and I can throw out my expired medication finally!)

bearcountrygg on 09/24/2020:
No flu shots for me...My Mom died 19 hours after getting a flu shot almost 6 years ago.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
Sorry to hear that BCGG! She lived a long life! How old was she when she passed away?

Jacky82020 on 09/24/2020:
Wow! Didn’t know they could be fatal. I have had 2 in the last 20 years. Will get one this year. May offer some protection against covid.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
I had to pay a copay when i thought it was free! It cost me $33 but it's worth it for extra protection in my opinion :)

Jacky82020 on 09/24/2020:
You’ll do great on the interview, HoP!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
thank you, Jacky! I was thinking to see where this interview takes me and see if I am presented with an opportunity to work for this firm...we shall see.

The firm doesn't require any previous training, which is nice!

Jacky82020 on 09/24/2020:
Get the experience.

Was the eye med expensive? I order some meds from Progressive RX in India, owned by a guy in Seattle. Great prices, usually. They will accept the info from the box/vial in lieu of a RX. Very convenient. Have a lifetime supply of antibiotics here.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
no, it wasn't too expensive bc i do have health insurance at the moment. it was around $13 or so if i recall...not more than $15.

the med should last me a long time (i hope over a year). it shouldn't run out too quickly.

Ouch, hope you get rid of the stye soon.

I hope you find a job you really like!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
Thank you so very much...the styes stink!

innerpeace on 09/23/2020:
I have frequent eye issues too, baby shampoo is the best for eye cleaning. I am dealing with a alien sized pimple on the side of my nose - loving my mask right now!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
thanks for seconding the baby shampoo...pimples in general suck....i'm glad the mask is covering yours!!

bearcountrygg on 09/23/2020:
I hear styes are painful.....hope the shampoo helps.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
styes are from too much touching the eye with unclean hands...i hope the shampoo keep my eye cleaner..

legcramps on 09/23/2020:
Sorry about the stye!

How are all the job applications going?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
job applications have no success yet, but i do have an interview friday for a semi-paralegal job which i am excited for but also unsure how good this company is...and if i would get enough experience there. but it's worth a shot and better to get off unemployment already.

jacky82020 on 09/23/2020:
Sucks, HoP. Hope it goes away soon

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
Me too...usually takes a few days. I'm soooo prone to them because i guess i touch my face too much!

Donkey on 09/23/2020:
My problem is pink eye! I have some antibiotic ointment that I got as a sample that I keep handy. First sign of an itch and I put a little dab in.

If you apply for a paralegal job that wants a writing sample, keep in mind that a business letter also works. It doesn't have to be motion or complaint.

So you have a ready-made plan (from the class) on how to prepare & study for the PMP certification?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
I do...I am not sure I can comply with this PMP study plan though. I will review it and try...but i am not sure I will be able to memorize the type of information that is on the test and/or do well on the test...

I will try...

I am working towards coming up with a plan in general and feel that my days at home may end soon..

happy-1 on 09/23/2020:
Hugs. Good strong, positive mindset.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
happy! you are missed around here!

Donkey on 09/24/2020:
I think I know what you are saying about studying for the PMP, and being able to retain the information for the test. I know you will try, and that's all you can do.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2020:
thank you :)

Have fun at the farm...farming is Hard work!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
Thank you Bear, I'm excited for it bc it's a nice, sunny day. Not too cold and not too hot :)

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
Enjoy the farm - and it is good exercise!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
thanks, Legs

innerpeace on 09/22/2020:
Enjoy your day on the farm. Do you take anything they grow or just help out? Applying for jobs is work in itself! Good luck!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
Yes...they sometimes have some produce that's not good enough to sell (or just extra) and I take the food either for myself or because i know that it's not great looking but good enough to feed the guniea pigs that i have so i don't have to buy much food for them at the supermarket!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
this time i also have eggplant that looks great which i'll cook for myself as well as good looking spinach probably for myself also!

Donkey on 09/23/2020:
Do you have any plans to step out for fresh air on Wednesday (today)?

I say apply for as many jobs as you can, go on as many interviews as you can get. Even if nothing comes from them, it's invaluable experience. And, if you apply for legal jobs, you'll get a nice perspective of the types of jobs and firms that are out there.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2020:
yes, i do. and i read this and then decided to go for that walk sometime after i read your comment :) so thank you! the weather is good and I am going to start my days more often with walks since I will have finished the cover letters by tonight and there's no written work that needs to be done right now (directly in the mornings).

I have one job interview coming Friday...and I will see if I can get any more interviews for legal jobs.

i am very much thinking to take a chance, leave the union that i was working under, and start in the legal field....i was contacted on linkedIn and i'm going to see the opportunities available...i am thinking just to jump out of my current field... i will lose pay but i will gain experience. i still will be able to pay my bills...so?...i will lose some things from the union, but, i'm single with not many things I absoutely will need...i plan to work for so many more years...maybe i will take a chance and learn from a first legal job :) keeping all updated...most legal jobs want experience, so if i'm lucky enough to get anything remotely close to a legal position, that'd be a success.

much of my time working at the union was at the bottom rungs. I didn't make a great salary for most of my time during the 9 years i was with my previous company.  I see the salaries online for other jobs and see that most jobs don't even pay what i made at the end of my time at the company (which was generous in the last 2.5 years).  So, I just think I should start over in terms of career (but with the experience of life and office work in my pocket). i have some transferable skills and need to learn the rest...seems this paralegal work could be a good start in terms of gaining experience for my next step in life / work.

I have an interview scheduled for FRIDAY at 2:30pm...the salary is 40,000 (not much for NYC standards)...but it's a job...i think this is what i want right now.

____________________________________________________________________________

TOM is here and has def caused a little discomfort this time around as well as bathroom issues. i'm glad to be home today and doing an upper body weights routine.

then, i will focus on doing some work: I have a plan for the next 2 days: writing TWO cover letters for two different fields of work (paralegal and assistant project manager).  the asst project manager letter will def be easier to write as paralegal writing is usually more criticized in writing style by potential employers.

Seems i'll also be visiting family today as sister asked if i'd come to play with her almost 2yr old...and that's good for me, too, as i could use a drive and the weather is nice outside for playing at a nearby park.

I'm a little bit unorganized right now...trying to use time wisely but sometimes the morning flies by...i'm working on this...the best thing i can see is to be active in the morning and then a lot of my exercise goals are done and i can do other work during other parts of the day without also thinking about exercising...

Anyways, if i have cover letters, some jobs are requiring them to apply...so then i can apply to all jobs and will no longer have a problem by not having a cover letter(s).

 MONDAY:

  • Upper body weights in AM - starting at 11:30am 12:30pm...DONE
  • visiting sister and family in afternoon, leaving my place around 2pm DONE
  • looking / deciding / reaching out on job opportunities DONE

_______________________________________________________

TUESDAY:

  • Volunteer at farm 1-4pm (didn't think i'd still be free to volunteer during the week, but, since i am and I want to - I'm going!
  • planning for how to prepare for PMP exam (project manage. prof. test)
  • Write Asst project manager cover letter (first) TOMORROW
  • Write paralegal cover letter (or just do this one first since i have some notes in my textbook for writing one)..
  • make a plan for PMP exam studies (project management professional exam)

Have fun at the park with your sister and nephew! Sounds like you have things under control.....

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2020:
sure will :) well, i am going to try to plan the use of my time better because a lot of it is becoming downtime / wasted...i'm not planning or being active in formalizing a plan...but it's starting to make sense with all the online listings of jobs, i think i can def manage a couple interviews soon!

grannyannie on 09/21/2020:
Good luck on the job interview!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2020:
thank you, might as well do it :)

Jacky82020 on 09/21/2020:
You worked for a union? Wouldn’t you no longer be a member if you’re not working for them or in job they represent? Guess I don’t understand. I was a member of a teacher’s union in California. Hated them. Protected the worst incompetents I’ve ever seen in my life. Encouraged them. They had a big strike and I was the only one at my school who crossed the picket line. The union rep called a few times and said I’d be shunned and later regret it. But no one ever held it against me. He was a weak spineless bastard himself.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2020:
yeah...in the northeast unions are still sorta a big deal.

i don't work for the union but in a union.

it's too much to get into, but you got the gist of it!

legcramps on 09/21/2020:
I think it’s a great time to take a risk right now, and if you decide to I wish you luck!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2020:
thank you so much, Legs

Donkey on 09/21/2020:
IDK... I'm very pro-union, and I know that being in your union has benefits that are invaluable (health care). Having said that...

I found my way into the legal field by volunteering, then by internship, which paid minimal but was a learning experience. I was hired by that firm, for a permanent job, but I didn't like the work I was doing, so I took a HUGE cut in pay and benefits, to work at the firm that I'm at now. And I worked my way up to the position I'm at now, but learning and being willing and excited to do as much as I could. I learned as much as I could so that I could cover other people's vacations.

If you are able to afford the pay cut, and think that this is where your heart lies, then go for it. A lot of the people I went to school with could not afford to leave their jobs to get into the legal field, unfortunately.

I think that having maturity and life skills, having legal knowledge but no experience can work to your advantage. A lot of firms out here want someone that they can mold into what THEY want, not someone who comes in with pre-conceived procedures.

I know you watch a lot of Judge Judy. Have you watched Court TV? That's more realistic as far as what goes on in a trial. And NO WAY is it like Law & Order -- don't even go there with me (lol)...

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
Def looking into my options...

seems you have to take a pay cut if you want to learn something new.

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
In the teacher’s unions they protect people unless they commit a crime such as child molestation, grand theft, etc, Crimes law enforcement prosecute. I knew one man who raped dozens of young boys and was shielded initially by the union. Unions have protected bad doctors and nurses too.

Used to watch Court TV all the time, but can’t get it anymore, I am an avid true crime (books) fan and loved it.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
Yes, there's bad and good that comes with unions.

The good is for the workers who feel much more secure in their positions.

There are bad apples in all professions, whether it's in a union or not, there are also people who choose to be in the wrong and make horrible decisions and do horrible acts whether union or not.

There are bad doctors, nurses, teachers, plumbers, lawyers, marketers, and the list goes on.

yeah i love the court tv shows. i should watch Court TV as Donkey recommends.

grannyannie on 09/22/2020:
I was in a union in Michigan - a very pro union state. I learned you never ever cross a picket line. And I still wouldn't.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
yes...as long as the union can provide you with a job...and right now the market is NOT that way. I don't have enough skills that I am highly important to companies that hire union...it's a strange situation to be in.

not like a teacher who usually cannot lose a job once working...my skills aren't a full package bc i drifted away from my college degree training and my union job i only learned thru experience which needs more time...

a union cannot help you if you cannot help the union..

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
you may have lived near BCGG!

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
I would cross that line a million times over. The lazy incompetents thought they deserved a raise. Salary should be merit based. All the dedicated new teachers working their asses off and the old union geezers not doing a damn thing.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2020:
def sounds reasonable, I agree and disagree...every worker is different.

some teachers are great till the day they retire. some aren't...

but i totally 100% get where you are coming from!

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2020:
Gotcha! some are indeed forever great.

Horn_of_plenty - Sunday Sep 20, 2020
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

Big stomach upset / issues today only because of TOM...not a good month this time around and i'm glad i guess i didn't have to work (like go to work) today because my stomach / intestines have not been calm all day...

_______________________________________________________________

Good morning, it's 10:45am already here and i just finished breakfast. I slept in again, sleeping many hours. Woke up in the middle of the night and took some pain meds because TOM was just about starting and my thigh was in pain and sleep interrupted. that worked and i continued to sleep until practically 10am!

Around 10-11 hours sleep. Moving forward, this coming week, I will not be trying or wanting to sleep this much.  I will be working to get on an improved schedule compared to these 2 days which will include some cardio in the morning, even if it's light cardio.

_____________________________________________________________

10:30am breakfast: leftover garlic knot 200?, oats 150, raisins 150, almond milk 50. 550.

2pm lunch: brisket little fatty 300, kasha/noodles 200, gummies 220. 720. also had some of a tonic soda drink 80.

5:45pm light snack: garlic knot (last one) 200, spiked juice drink which was very refreshing and only 3% alc 100.

9pm 400 cal

2050..

______________________________________________________________

I think i'm going to take today mostly as a "catch-up" day to prepare myself for the coming week. Laundry and exercise...cleaning up...but I also will apply for at least a few jobs online because that is easy.

In addition to applying for jobs, I will start to study for the PMP exam and will make a plan for that...the plan i will start to review and set into motion on Monday or Tuesday.  Studying for the PMP is secondary to finding a job, but, I realize i need to at least start it because I am the type who will need a lot of studying and time to pass the exam (if i even pass it).

_________________________________________________________________

 SUNDAY

  •  apply to a few jobs on Linkedin / Indeed / Join monster DONE!
  • Do laundry / replace guinea fleeces DONE!
  • Do some cardio in AM, even if it's the indoor bike while watching TV

  • Upper Body weights
  •  RELAX..yup!

MONDAY:

  • looking / deciding / reaching out on job opportunities
  • make a plan for PMP studies

_______________________________________________________

TUESDAY:

  • Volunteer at farm 1-4pm (didn't think i'd still be free to volunteer during the week, but, since i am and I want to - I'm going!

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/20/2020:
I did not comment on yesterday's post, but as you are listing goals for the week, I feel that I can mention my comment here, as it would still be relevant.

When my husband was out of work, and we were rather desperate, I found that job hunting can be a limited endeavor. That is to say, he would search in the morning, but if there was nothing he could apply for, then his day was done, leaving the afternoon hours rather empty.

You may have more opportunities for applications, which of course will take up more of your time. I'm not sure if you're at the point where you're applying for anything, or if you are going to be selective in your choices.

My point is to be prepared to have more free time, and I would suggest (?) that perhaps the available hours remaining, you could study for your national test. That is to say, to intentionally set aside 2 hours (for example) to study. Just a suggestion to help anchor your time during the day.

Of course, after finishing paralegal studies, you may just want a break from any kind of studying for a week or so: fun reading, more walking/bike riding, etc. I'm not sure how well you do with unstructured time.

Last thought: if the farm shuts down in the late fall, perhaps start looking for another volunteering opportunity? I know that you will probably be back to work, but I'm thinking, maybe looking for another opportunity might be interesting and productive as well.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2020:
Seems we are on the same page....we are thinking alike!!!!

you are right that i will have a lot of time...it's up to me if i'm going to waste it or use it... :)

funny how you wrote exactly what i wrote...but i will be re-reading your advice again...to see if i can use it to organize my days..

bearcountrygg on 09/20/2020:
Sounds like you made up for lost sleep...and you were relieved to be done with the class work.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2020:
yeah, you'd think i wouldn't be able to sleep so darn much!

grannyannie on 09/20/2020:
Good luck on finding a job! Spoil yourself for a while before you start a job.
